Ashley Greene in Pierre Balmain at the “CBGB” New York Premiere

Posted on October 09, 2013

We seem to have stumbled onto a theme for the first few posts of the day. It’s “Blonde Women T Lo Think Should Go Back To Brunette Who Are Wearing Oddly Shaped Otherwise Boring LBDs Outside Their Fashion Wheelhouse.” Sarah was Exhibit A and Ashley’s stepping forward to be Exhibit B:

Ashley Greene attends the ‘CBGB’ premiere in New York City in a Pierre Balmain dress paired with Christian Louboutin Pigalle Spikes pumps, a Kilian clutch, and Genevieve Jones ‘Kirin’ diamond earrings

Kilian ‘Prohibited’ Clutch

Christian Louboutin Pigalle Spikes Pump

It’s not an awful dress, but it’s not really doing anything for her. And while the shoes and the clutch are gorgeous, they pretty much disappear because there’s nothing for them to play off. It’s all black once again. There is always going to be something chic about an all-black ensemble, but it’s not really a look for picture-taking.

And we’re sorry, the hair color’s terrible. Her face just disappears.

The neckline of this dress confuses me. It’s like a kid failed to color inside the lines properly.

    • MoHub

Ess-zack-ly! It looks more like a mistake than a design feature. And the hair color is not only bad; her hair looks as if it needs a good shampoo.

    • sagecreek

Yep. I like asymmetry in theory, but it didn’t work here.

      • Heather

It’s like it didn’t really commit to being asymmetrical. It needed to commit to that, not go half-assed about it.

      • RoseJB

Yeah. At first I thought it was a racer-back (racer-front?) look that got twisted ’round and needed to be tugged back into position.

        • littlemac8

Exactly what I thought. Pulled it on over her head and it got twisted. Hair is awful…hair color is worse.

    • demidaemon

I totally agree. It either makes you want to jerk it to the side or makes you think there is something wrong with your screen. That’s a design fail, in my opinion.

  • Kimmu

I am disturbed by how much she looks like shorter, female version of the professional wrestler Edge in all of the shots of her looking over her shoulder

    • Qitkat

Snort. He’s the sheriff in Haven now isn’t he?

      • Kimmu

He is! I’m glad I can see him on my tv still even if Haven is pretty awful. Edge’s early retirement was such a shame.

        • Qitkat

I’ve never followed wrestling. The bad girl in me likes Eric Balfour as Duke. He’s had a pretty consistent career over 20 years. Haven is one of my guilty pleasures.

          • Kimmu

Duke is definitely the character I like most. I just find a lot of the rest of the cast pretty dull.

        • demidaemon

Man, BKs who love wrestling. What an awesome contradiction. The only reason I know this is because my brother is a diehard wrestling fan who keeps me up to date on the goings-on so I can watch it with him in our brief visits.

Still, loving the Edge references here.

          • Kimmu

lol well, professional wrestling is a lot of intense, soap opera drama involving almost naked men with generally perfect bodies, so really, you would think there would be more over lap!

  • Fanny_Trollope

So I guess that bodice is intentionally asymmetrical, not just wonky as I first thought? Doesn’t do a thing for me.

    • Ginny Ellsworth

If both sides had been symmetrical, she would have had a racer front. With the right jewelry, it could have looked good. This way looks like a challenge dress where the designer ran out of time.

  • Oooft. Honey, stop.

  • Karen Belgrad

Unlike Sarah Paulson, who I identify as blonde (only dark for roles), this one should definitely be a brunette. Even her hair agrees, as you can see the brunette literally climbing out of her head, begging to be seen!

  • anotherkate

She’s just so much prettier as a brunette (I mean, you can’t hide her kind of pretty, but still!). I kind of take it personally when my fellow brunettes all hop on the blonde train–especially when they do it with visible roots and brassiness at the crown. It doesn’t look natural, and it doesn’t look good. What is the point?

    • crash1212

You articulated my thoughts exactly. What exactly IS the point of going blonde when you so obviously want the roots to show? Having never gone blonde (this brunette did try various shade of red and purple in her younger years!), I do not know the process…is it impossible to cover roots sometimes? At any rate – this is not her hair color.

    • Rhonda Shore

Dark hair suits her so much better. And that dress IS awful. Dark hair and leather are Ashley needs!

  • Diego!

Guys, I agree 100%. Not her haircolor and clearly NOT her dress. Girl, fire your gays now.

  • mlle

She looks like a banker’s wife.

  • claudemtl777

That shoe has been distilled down to versions we see at payless and winners. It should no longer be seen on the Red Carpet, imho.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

That shoe should never be seen anywhere.

    • NoveltyRocker

Agree, it’s played. I personally still really like the spiky detailed anything but it’s too rampant in malls to look very special on a red carpet right now.

  • Jeremiah Capacillo

That neckline is seriously triggering my OCD.

  • jmorino08

She looks like a standard fake-blond wannabe with that hair color. And the neckline on that dress is making my eye twitch. I want to yank it all over to make it symmetrical!

  • NMMagpie

The first thing I thought was not about the hair but the lip. When the ladystar is already looking washed out, why stay away from color on the lip? It could change everything. In this case, it would.

  • poggi

She has beautiful eyes and brown hair would just frame her lovely face so much better. Also the dress asymmetry doesn’t seems extreme enough. A little more and it would clearly read as intentional, not necessarily a better dress but at least it wouldn’t look like a mistake.

  • The cut of that dress is awful and harsh. Her hair color is bad. She was the most beautiful girl in Twilight. She is barely recognizable with her hair length and color. She needs a stylist–or a different stylist–so badly.

  • RussellH88

That neckline drives me insane. It doesn’t look intentional, it looks like it’s crooked.

  • marlie

I really don’t like this hair color on her; I hope she goes back to her natural color soon. And the dress is… interesting, but I think that if the designer wanted to go with the reverse racerback, it should have been symmetrical, because now it looks like her dress is just weirdly twisted.

But those shoes are TO DIE FOR.

  • MilaXX

Shame because darker hair would really make her eyes pop.

  • eowyn_of_rohan

All the neckline does is make me focus on armpits. Not good.

  • Her face dissappears? Girl is serving FACE here!

  • Danielle

I keep getting her mixed up with Anna Kendrick.

  • cocohall

Look up “askew” in the dictionary and you will see this dress. If the left side were completely straight, the asymmetry might work. But this just looks like a mistake. It is also giving her a serious case of titscrepancy.

  • lobsterlen

That neckline makes her look disfigured from a tragic spinal condition. Accidental disfigurement by design will never be fashion forward for me.

  • tonibaloney

Her eyes are so stunning when she’s a brunette, but just lose their lustre when she’s blonde. It’s weird how much of a difference it makes.

  • imspinningaround

Ashley Greene always looks like a 35-year-old trying too look like a 25-year-old.

  • Vaniljekjeks

Maybe it’s my new glasses, but that dress is making me dizzy… and I have to agree that’s NOT her hair color. It makes her head look not quite right.

  • Did someone punch the top of her dress?

  • luluransom

More disturbing than the tragic hair: CBGBs and the CocaCola logo paired on that step-and-repeat. I’ve long given up clutching my stud collar over the commercialization of punk, but that’s still jarring.

    • VictoriaDiNardo

I was just about to post the exact same thing. It makes me a bit sad actually.

    • Alloy Jane

If it makes you feel better, commercialized punk isn’t punk anymore than I’m a unicorn. I can say I’m a unicorn. I can glue a horn to my head and wear hoof-shaped gloves and shoes. But not even a coat of glossy white paint will make me a unicorn. Knowing that the emperor is bare-assed always makes me feel better about this crap.

      • demidaemon

You know, if you or someone else actually went out and did this, I would give you a standing ovation.

  • stubbornthoughts

That neckline is making the little bit of OCD I have go completely fucking nuts. Right eye. Twitching. Left eye. Bulging.

  • Tatiana Luján

The only thing I don’t like is the hair color.

  • thecitysleeps

That neckline looks like a mistake or someone pulled the thread too much. I love the shoes but it needed a colour to play off of. More than the blond hair I hate the very visible black roots, like wtf?

  • ashtangajunkie

A big, fat chorus of NO to that hair colour. The dress looks askew, like she had some fun in the limo on the way there and was shoved out the door and in front of the cameras before she had a chance to straighten herself out.

  • Qitkat

This dress is giving me OCD.

  • YoungSally

    It’s like scoliosis as a fashion statement…..

  • Rebecca Harvey

Love the clutch. But otherwise, a disaster.

  • bertkeeter

    BALMAIN? For Kohls!

  • VicD

That looks terrible on her. Oh, and, HIGHLIGHTS!

  • jen

The hair color is SO horrible.

  • Rick Aiello

The neckline is wrong, wrong, wrong. It’s confusing to the eye from every angle. When viewing her from the front, she looks misshapen. BAD choice.

  • d4divine

I think I’ve seen those Louboutin Spike pumps so many times…let them go…other than that, she looks like she could be going to a post work cocktail party…same dress add sexy shoe and bag…she hasn’t had time to lose her work crazy eyes

  • Pterodactyl111

The roots have got to go. HIDDY.

  • Alloy Jane

Everything about this picture is distasteful. She looks like a freshly used call girl, what with the horrible hair, cheap looking shoes, and silly neckline. Too bad, she usually looks lovely. I’ll just remember her in that black jumpsuit from months ago. This is Ashley Green post alien invasion.
