Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts Inaugural Gala Red Carpet Rundown

Posted on October 18, 2013

Miss Charlize won this red carpet hands down, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have opinions on the rest of the attendees. Hit it, attention-starved!

Abbie Cornish

The good news is, this event seemed to have ended Hollywood’s recent all-black mourning period (what it was mourning for, we have not a clue). There’s still plenty of black to be found, but the color and print here was positively explosive in comparison to the last few dour weeks of red carpetry.

The bad news is this dress is shiny and a little wrinkled and not all that chic-looking.

Amy Adams in Elie Saab Couture

Oh Christ. The bridesmaid shoe trend. We said we were going to give it a couple months before we really start railing against it, but we’re not sure we can hold out. Also, the blouson bodice isn’t all that flattering paired with a skirt that could double as a tutu.

Camilla Belle in Salvatore Ferragamo

 That’s hot.

Chord Overstreet

Superbly done. Attaboy.

Demi More in Salvatore Ferragamo

Navy blue was apparently the color of the night. The dress is just okay. She really needs a hair consult from someone willing to tell her the hard truths about life.

Dev Patel in Salvatore Ferragamo

J’ADORE. You rock the shit out of that red tuxedo, Mister.

Dita Von Teese in Carolina Herrera

She looks too covered up. Not that she needs to show off the girls every time she goes out, but the shape of her face combined with the lacquered hair means high collars aren’t really her best friend.

Evangeline Lilly in Moschino

Swear to God, we thought this was Lisa Rinna. We’re still unconvinced it’s not.

That’s too much Christmas-foil-paper red for one outfit. That jacket with black skinny pants would have been killer.

Freida Pinto in Salvatore Ferragamo

Gorgeous.

Geena Davis

 Jesus Christ.

Did she just wake up from 1986 or something?

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale in Salvatore Ferragamo

Bowing down, bitches. They both look chic.

Jodie Foster in Giorgio Armani

Well, smell Miss Jody here! This is a bit of a departure for her (even if it’s still her go-to Armani). We have to say, we love the sudden  infusion of Butch Chic into her look.

Josh Duhamel

Those hems are making us weep.

Nicole Richie in Dolce&Gabbana

Girl, that is SO your dress.

But those are SO not the right shoes for it.

Paz Vega in Salvatore Ferragamo

Wasn’t there a law passed that no one else could wear this after Angelina did? We didn’t dream that, right?

Surely Josh Duhamel pays someone to ensure his fly is zipped?

Jodie Foster’s visible feet in ladypants make this a WERQ.

Dita’s dress is less successful because there is a naked dress underneath busting to get out. If it were just the highneck whatnot it’d be better.

      • charlotte

Trudy Campbell would destroy him now.

      • http://www.GiftedCollector.com/ The Gifted Collector

Are Jodie Foster’s pants on backwards?

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

          Possibly back zip?

          • http://www.GiftedCollector.com/ The Gifted Collector

I was referring to the crazy crotch. Too much fabric.

            • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Yes – you sometimes get that slightly pouchy effect with back-zip trousers. It’s the anti-cameltoe.

    • Clueless_Jock

      Dita wins by a mile.

    • decormaven

After Miss Charlize, everybody except Gwen and Gavin pale in comparison.

      • Rhonda Shore

Jodie, Dev Patel, and Freida Pinto also look great.

        • Kristin McNamara

That picture of Dev Patel makes me SO happy. There’s not nearly enough of that man on my television when The Newsroom is in its off-season…

        • decormaven

Yes, indeed. But Charlize set the bar so high on this night.

    • Diego!

Does Josh Duhamel know or is he aware that his underwear is on display? I love Gwen, Jody, Nicole and Frida! They are the best here.

      • Introspective

agree 100%. nicole and frida look particularly radiant. jodie looks confident, and gwen is rocking the baby bump without the go to annoying pose of putting the hand on the belly to ensure the razzi remembers she’s preggers.

they are all pretty fierce even if queen charlize breezed thru to show them all up…

        • lundibleu

I was just thinking I’d have to go and google to see if she was pregnant as that look made me think she was. Now I know :)

        • Diego!

I think Paz Vega, despite her Angelina pose, looks gorgeous too! ;)

      • teensmom99

Josh gets the new dad pass.

        • Fannie Wolston

No honey, nobody gets a pass for forgetting to zip up on the red carpet.

    • aeb1986

Love Gwennies outfit! SHe looks amazing as usual

      • MilaXX

        That’s a good pregnancy glow

    • clatie

Geena Davis – SUE THAT DOCTOR.

      • Imasewsure

And the “stylist” or three year old who recommended that look for you!

      • http://www.GiftedCollector.com/ The Gifted Collector

Any more fillers and her dimples will disappear.

    • MilaXX

Well the good news is that there were no out right trains wrecks. Sure Josh Dummel, Abbie Cornish & Geena Davis need some help, but they aren’t completely awful. Well maybe Geena, but whatevs. Favorites have to be Dev Patel & Gwen Stefani.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

I might be tempted to give Frieda Pinto the win here…….she looks positively breathtaking. At the very least, she gets “Miss Congeniality”. And I am loving Dev Patel and his Campari-colored tux!

      • Leah Elzinga

I would DIE to see a pic of them TOGETHER. raspberries and cream. always delicious.

    • EmJayEl

Geena Davis is wearing the prom dress Kelly and Brenda both wore that time on 90210.

    • tereliz

Oh, Dev, you always looks so snappy and adorable.

    • Myra Amler

Is it me or does that dress make Amy Adams look like she has granny boobs?

      • sagecreek

Not just you. The light-colored lining was a mistake, I think.

    • Sobaika

Dev and Freida for the win!

    • hughman

I hope if I get lost in the hedge maze in “The Shining”, I look this chic as well.

    • Imasewsure

Love Dev Patel… love his suit and his smile… one lucky kid and he knows it (I’m sure he’s talented too)

    • Ashleigh

uh. Josh. Your flying low! dork

    • Kerri

Attention male stars with long hair: please see Chord Overstreet’s stylist. This is what you do with it. It looks washed and neat and appropriate to the situation/venue. Please and thank you.

      • filmcricket

I still desperately want him to cut it, though.

        • Kerri

Oh, yeah. I do, too. He’s, like, the Jared Padalecki of Glee now. Just bring it in a bit, boys.

        • sweetestsith

Agreed. But I had some SERIOUS love for his faux-hawk stripper boy hair. I think it looked AMAZING on him.

Ah well. I will take clean and styled. :)

    • Kathleen

I really wish I could pull off Jodie’s look – love it.

    • marlie

Amy Adams: I want to love it, but the fit in the bust is off.
Dev Patel and Frieda Pinto: They both look FAB! I bet they were the most stunning couple on the red carpet.
Dita: I don’t like the red lining under the lace.
Evangeline: Hem the pants and I would love the look.
      Gwen Stefani: GORGE.
Josh Duhamel: Seriously? His fly is down? NO ONE tells him this?!
Nicole Richie: I hate her dress.

    • gabbilevy

The Slumdog kids won both the men’s and women’s division on this one, I think.

    • Kelly

Wish Jodie weren’t so shiny. I love the butch look otherwise. And ouch, poor Geena. Ouch to E. Lilly’s too-tight, too-long, too-red pants, too (and too-tight jacket). Frida Pinto looks the best.

    • kimiakay

And I thought Evangeline Lilly was Gina Gershon for a few minutes. It must be her hair or something. That suit isn’t doing her any favors. Frieda Pinto for the win, Nicole Richie 2nd place. Dev Patel for the men,

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

I would follow Jody Foster into battle.

      • Derek_anny

I started to think Joan of Arc, realized Joan was not even 20 when she was burned, realized Jodie could play Joan in the film adaptation of The Problem with Saints.

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Oh Josh, Fergie is home with the baby and you’re out trolling for strange. Tisk.
Gwen is giving me life, coincidentally, while in the process of giving someone else theirs. Love her.
Evangeline leaves the house twice a year, and this is what she does it in? Freckles, I has disappoint.
Demi, Demi, Demi…I think the boat full of people who would deal in Real Talk has long since sailed. I’m pleased that she appears healthy. It was going another way for a while there.

There are others, but it is the end of a long day, at the end of a long week, my brain will not play along. Happy weekending Kittens.

    • sagecreek

      1) Dev Patel is just adorable.
      2) Was it just me, or is Evangeline Lilly virtually unrecognizable?
      3) GO JODY.

      • halleygee

Agree, he is adorable! I have no idea who he is but have to google him now.

    • Dagney

      Geena Davis….what….I just can’t.

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

OH MY GOD I DIDN’T EVEN REALIZE IT WAS HER. She needs to slap her makeup guy.

        • Dagney

Right? And what kills me is she is a naturally striking, beautiful woman who could get by with minimal, but smartly applied makeup, but no, she went to the teenager at the Glamour Shots at the mall. I can’t even get started on that dress. I mean, again, here we have this Adonis of a lady…she could have mailed this in and picked a random killer looking black pants suit from Bloomingdales, had it tailored, thrown on some unique jewels, to die for shoes, and BAM, she’s amazing. The hair? oh dear that’s another thread. Who dresses some of these women?

      • martha

Also her arms look freakishly (like baboonishly) long

    • filmcricket

Saw some of these on GFY. Didn’t realize Richie’s dress was sheer, that bugs a bit. Josh Duhamel, DO UP YOUR FLY! Chord Overstreet, CUT YOUR HAIR! Dev Patel and Gwen FTW, I think.

    • alyce1213

Isn’t Chord Overstreet one of the Culkin children?
Interesting that Abby Cornish and Gwen Stefani are in the same dress, different fabric. Gwen’s works better, and she gets a no-belt pass because.
Mostly I love Nicole Ritchie, even the shoes (heck, especially the shoes), and Frieda Pinto.

    • Erin Schubert Needham

      Chord Overstreet = Macauley Culkin.

    • http://marshmallowjane.com/ marshmallowjane

Those are pretty ugly dresses. I like Nicole Richie’s the best. The ones that cut in–Gwen Stefani’s and Abbie Cornish’s–are the worst. I don’t love Demi’s dress but she looks good. It is difficult to cut long hair, especially when it’s still pretty. I long-haired woman never likes the shape of her face with “puff” and “tease” around it.

    • e jerry powell

Lisa Rinna has a better dye job. That’s about all that can be said.

    • bellafigura1

      Dita: hiding something.
      Demi: barely keeping it together.
      Geena: you said it.
Gwen: excellent smizing, the dress isn’t doing much for her.
Nicole: love it, including the shoes.

      • Shawn EH

Geena has never really had any taste in dresses, if we remember her wackadoo nineties Oscar looks. She’s going to be one crazy old lady.

    • NYCGlamourpuss

I love Jodie’s look, but I would have gone just a teense looser on the pants. Not loose loose, but more straight leg than legging. Other than that, she’s perfect.

Amy Adams would be stunning if the bodice were just a little more fitted and if she didn’t have DTM Bridesmaid shoes. Other than that, she looks great.

LOVE Nicole Ritchie’s dress! That so IS her dress for sure!

    • MaggieMae

      Love Gwen’s dress.

    • ThaliaMenninger

Abbie Cornish: That is not your boobs’ dress.
Amy Adams: Very pretty. Clearly I am in the minority on this one. I really do like it.
      Chord Overstreet: Lounge Lizard.
Dev Patel: Ironic Lounge Lizard, which makes all the difference.
Evangeline Lilly: WTF happened to you?
Freida Pinto: You win this round, Miss Freida. Nicely done.

    • Call me Bee

Well maybe. But its Paz Vega. She is gorgeous in this. FTW.

    • demidaemon

I didn’t know I was craving an RC rundown post until this one popped up. So delightful! I think I need to go smoke a cigarette now. The good ones are so awesome, but the bad ones are so awful. Apparently, this was also the hit-or-miss RC.

    • ShaoLinKitten

I’m sorry, but Dev Patel looks like an usher in an old-style movie theatre. If the tux was a truer red, it wouldn’t look so much like a uniform. But that burgundy? No good.

    • bertkeeter

      JOSH….HUNEY…Zip up your PANTS…. OR?

      • Erica_Vuitton

        OMG ^ Truth!

    • stubbornthoughts

Gwen: “This is how you do pregnant on the red carpet.”
Gavin: “I wanna knock you up again after this.”

    • Shawn EH

      Abbie Cornish: Daytime Emmy realness.
Gwen and Gavin: Rock star glamour!
Jodie: Looks more comfortable in her skin than I’ve ever seen her, she must hate dresses as much as Ellen!
Amy Adams: Pretty, and well in her A-line retro wheelhouse. Great color for her.

    • SugarSnap108

For me, Freida Pinto won the evening. Just wasn’t wild about Charlize’s. Gwen & Gavin look pretty smashing, too.

    • Cathy S

Patel and Pinto for the win. Ms. Jodi as runner-up.
