AnnaSophia Robb in Bongo for Kmart at The Carrie Diaries Season 2 Premiere

Posted on October 01, 2013

Look, sometimes, a girl’s gotta put on a Kmart dress because life throws you curveballs and you find yourself doing all sorts of things you wouldn’t necessarily volunteer to do. The best any girl can do is make the most of it, right?

AnnaSophia Robb at the The Season 2 Premiere Party for “The Carrie Diaries” at Gansevoort Hotel Rooftop in New York City in a Bongo for Kmart dress paired with a leather jacket, a Jimmy Choo clutch, and Salvatore Ferragamo pumps.

Bongo Junior’s Mesh Cutout Dress

Working that hi-lo like a pro, we have to say. The real Carrie Bradshaw (and by that we mean any version of the character prior to about 2001 when she quit smoking and became insufferable) would approve.

It’s really not an awful dress, although we reserve the right to drastically change our minds on that one should we ever get an opportunity to examine it up close. But the jacket, clutch and shoes are all working overtime to bring this little frock up town. And it’s working. We’re also digging the light, but chic jewelry and the polished hair and face. Really, this is like a primer on how to dress up a potentially cheap look. Kudos to her style people.

We’re going to admit something that shocks us and may shock you: we actually don’t mind the satin bridesmaid shoe trend happening right now. When it’s done well, like here, it’s fun. We think the shelf life of this trend is going to be very short, though. At least on our end. We’ll be bitching about it right around the New Year, we’re betting.

I think those bridesmaid shoes are the one misstep in this look. everything else is find, but satin shoes AND rhinestones on the toes? Nope.

      • kimmeister

Agreed. They are too formal for this dress.

      • Introspective

and im going to have to concur.

also i for one think uncles TLo are going to fall in deep hate for these dyed to match satin mishaps on starlet feet by roughly halloween. i doubt we’ll make it to jan 1 without a massive revolt on these boards. everytime they appear i only have one response: tacky.

      • oatmealpie

It looks like she’s re-wearing the shoes from last year’s Christmas party.

      • kmk05

I can’t even imagine when those shoes would be appropriate. They’re so… unflatteringly SHINY.

      • SugarSnap108

Completely agree. The jacket and necklace give the look a great dressed-up-badass vibe that is completely at odds with what’s on her feet. Plus, those shoes are just plain tacky.

      • xmixiex

Agreeing here also. They’re too serious for the rest of the look.

    • decormaven

Keep bitching about satin shoes. They must die an early death. Make it so!

    • tereliz

Huh. Those shoes are LIT’RALLY the last ones I’d reach for to go with a dress this edgy. So… satiny. And blingy.

      • conniemd

My one and only expensive shoes are black Stuart Weitzman with savoroski crystals. They are in a satin like material, but are NOT shiny. It makes all the difference.

    • Glam Dixie

I would love the shoe if it were ANYTHING except satin. I just can’t with that. Too many weddings, I guess. Love the look as a whole.

Record scratch at the shoes. The rest is cute, even if the necklace confuses me a bit.

    • Imasewsure

Those shoes are kind of kick ass on her (because she is so cute and the color is unexpected)… I think they are a bit too dressy for this outfit but not too bad – bet the dress is made of cheap itchy fabric and turns in to one big snag in the wash!

Not really in to the whole cheap designer knock off stuff though – saw the Catherine Maladrino for Kohls crap from afar the other day (and it looked like crap of course!!)

      • Qitkat

I saw an ad the other day for Sophia Vergara for Kmart. Everyone’s a designer.

        • demidaemon

I’ve been seeing that commercial repeatedly. It’s cute, but I’m sure it will annoy me in at least a week.

    • hughman

The satin shoes in red come off a little “Christmas Ornament”. Other than that, her transformation to Bad Girl Sandy in “Grease” is fine.

    • Jessica Freeman

The fabric of the dress looks cheap, thus bringing it down a few notches. I think the shoes are the worst element of the overall look, followed closely by the leather jacket.

    • Heather

I’m not entirely adverse to satin shoes in theory, but these just scream “Christmas wedding, and I made all my bridesmaids get matching shoes just to be a control freak and require them to spend an extra $100″ to me.

      • H2olovngrl

        Ouch!

      • MilaXX

        one wedding too many, huh?

        • random_poster

As a goodwill gesture to keep my friendships in-tact and cancel out the bad feelings, I made sure to throw out all bridesmaids shoes that fit this description.

    • NYCGlamourpuss

You know, it’s not bad. It’s very “80s bad girl from a rock video”, so it works for the venue. Plus, it’s Bongo, which absolutely works for the 80s! Jesus, my college roommate and I had half of our wardrobe supplemented by Bongo back then!

      • kimmeister

I didn’t even know Bongo was still around until this post.

        • H2olovngrl

          Ditto.

          • NYCGlamourpuss

Yeah, same here – like I said, that was my go-to label in 1986-1987!

            • H2olovngrl

Now that I mention it, Ditto was my go to label from about 1977 to 1981. Haha.

            • Imasewsure

That’s where my brain was going here too… Dittos and Chemin-de-Fer… glad there is no photographic evidence

      • allcapsERINN

Haha, yeah – I remember when Bongo was one of THE brands to wear in the ’80s. A pair of Bongo jeans and a Forenza sweater were must-haves. I’m kind of glad to see they’re still around. :)

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

Those shoes scream “Your free gift with purchase of any Liz Taylor fragrance!”

      • NYCGlamourpuss

        Oh god, *dying* over here!

    • majorbedhead

“a Bongo for Kmart dress paired with a leather jacket, a Jimmy Choo clutch, and Salvatore Ferragamo pumps.”

I’d be willing to bet, in all the history of all the world, that those words have never appeared together in a sentence before.

      • NYCGlamourpuss

I’m wondering if the shoes are all part of an over-all tacky, 80s look.

    • Bexxx

      Those shoes make me rage.

    • vitaminC

<3 Mad respect for a lady who can rock a discount dress.

    • bellafigura1

The dress looks like it’s from Kmart, for sure.

    • Kelly

She looks cute enough, and I’ll even give her the satin shoes (*this* time; I think everyone is allowed one pair of satin shows in their lives, and then that’s it).

But if the dress looks this stretched and pulled and too-small on a celeb who has stylists, what’s it going to look like on ordinary peeps?

      • Imasewsure

My guess is that no matter what it actually looks like, they will think they look amazing (which is part of the problem with these types of dresses on us ordinaries)..

    • Darva Sutra

Darlings, don’t we ALL mix our Kmart with Jimmy Choo and Ferragamo, toujours?! Also expensive jacket and jewelry, surely. I agree with you – she is pulling off the dreaded satin pumps, but only in an ironic cool throwback way, and it helps that she’s like 12. Any of us who did it the first time around in the 80’s do NOT need to go back there.

      • AthenaJ

I am loving your pic! Stoli, darling!!

    • BendinIntheWind

      Those shoes are HIDDY

    • Rebekah B

Those shoes remind me a little bit of the blue Manolo Blahniks Carrie had in Sex and the City. Satiny, jewels on the toes. When I think of them as a nod to Carrie’s, I don’t mind them.

    • Micaela Cannon

I’m not usually one to obsess over the booty but either that dress is giving her booty LIFE or her booty is giving the dress LIFE but one way or another it’s working

    • random_poster

I love the look when she keeps the jacket on. I can give or take the shoes with this outfit.

    • sagecreek

      Christmas shoes!

    • Erica_Vuitton

If I hadn’t been told it was from Kmart I don’t think I would’ve been able to guess. Considering how sheer/mesh is very trendy right now (no matter how much we wish it would go away) and JLD wore a VERY similar Pucci dress a week or so ago… this really isn’t that bad for $20. I think I would’ve gone for different shoes, something silver but yeah. Nice high-low outfit for sure.

    • marlie

I’ve never had a problem with satin shoes when they’re deployed correctly. The biggest problem is that so many ladystars DON’T deploy them correctly.

Anyway, this is a cute little outfit. It kind of offers the “everyday woman” an idea of how to dress up an inexpensive garment (the right way).

ETA: The necklace is all wrong.

    • boweryboy

She’s rocking the shit out of a $20 dress! Mad props to her for that, but those shoes have. got. to. go.

    • Sonja Brisson

OK, I’m going to keep beating this dead horse but the fact that this dress actually looks like something certain people would wear (Miley Cyrus/Kardashians) shows how abysmal ‘fashion’ is these days. Meaning, cheap looking.

And the shoes are horrible with this dress (or any dress, for that matter).

The girl is darling, but I feel no deep personal need to see a prequel to Sex and the City. the only prequel I plan to see is Better Call Saul.

    • Trisha26

I liked everything except the shoes until I got to the rear-view – another large butt silhouette. Make it stop.

      • demidaemon

I really don’t get your hatred for it. She and Miss Rossum are accentuating their fine natural assets. What gives?

        • AthenaJ

Agreed, her booty looks great and she has every right to flaunt it (tastefully, as shown here)

    • Suzanne Moore

I took one look at her feet and thought “Christmas party shoes”. Or shiny tree ornaments…

    • mickiemonkey

With a rear view like that, sister can wear whatever shoes she wants.

    • RoseJB

Is there an actual reason she needed to wear a K-Mart dress? And did it have to be that dress? Because, really, why?
At least she’s working it better than the model is.

    • pop_top

She looks fabulous and I love the color of the shoes, but I’m still iffy on them.
And it’s probably an unpopular opinion, but I like the dress.
