WERQ: Iman in Zac Posen at the Estée Lauder Modern Muse Party

Posted on September 13, 2013

As always, you are invited – nay, expected to bow down, mortals.

Iman attends the Estée Lauder “Modern Muse” Fragrance Launch Party at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City in a Zac Posen dress from the Resort 2014 collection.

Zac Posen Resort 2014 Collection

The Way of the WERQ holds that sometimes it’s not about wearing a perfect look from head to toe. Sometimes it’s about the extremely rare (and thus highly valued in the fashion industry) ability to wear something mediocre to downright awkward and still make it look like award-winning couture.

In other words, we don’t really like the dress or the shoes, but she has an amazing ability to make them look loads better than they actually are. That’s a goddamn model. ROYAL SNAPS FOR THE QUEEN.

So wowed by her old school tattoo! She will cut a bitch!

    • Guest

      The Bowie Knife!

  • Danielle

Piercing my heart with her dagger tattoo <3

    • AnotherG

I think it’s supposed to be a Bowie knife, since isn’t she married to David Bowie?

      • Bexxx

GENIUS AND AMAZING. I am going to get one just to memorialize my Bowie love.

      • fursa_saida

Yes, she is. I can only begin to imagine how glorious their child will be when she gets older.

  • Because she is Iman, I will not say this is Kick Ass Blanche Devereaux realness. That would be disrespectful.

  • disqussant

Obligatory remark about her ageless beauty. I remember reading a thing about her beauty routine years ago and apparently she’s a big believer in vitamin C serums.

    • Sobaika

*calmly raids department stores for all things Vitamin C*

    • Cz

Is the serum harvested from the fountain of youth? Because damn.

  • Just Me

She is SELLING that garment like Zac Posen is paying her rent next month. Bowing down…

  • oatmealpie

What happened to the model’s right leg?!!

    • Lilyana_F

      OMG! lol

    • Sara Brams-Miller

    • Bethany Roullett

She would totally be called out for that on ANTM.

    • Theresa

Other pics for that line show she’s got two legs, that is some awful Photoshop action there!

    • kimmeister

      Or her hair?

    • Coolekat

Great catch! I never see those things until clever folk like you spot them.

    • Alloy Jane

Maybe she’s the daughter of the Phantom Limb?

    • filmcricket

Clearly this horrible dress devoured it. Beware all mortals.

    • O_O

  • decormaven

All hail the Queen! This is WERQ, personified.

    • NMMagpie

I could not agree more. She has been and still is one of the most stunning women EVER. I am in awe.

  • MilaXX

I don’t mine the dress but I really dislike that white lining. It also saddens me to see that even someone as fabulous as Iman can have a day where you can see her lace front. If I ignore that, I can appreciate the fabulous-ness of it all. She is werqing it.

    • Sobaika

Agree on the lining. Wish it had matched her skin tone more.

  • Synnae

I just wish this dress was floor length, that would have countered the very busy top half. And covered a pair of shoes which I like in themselves but hate with the current dress.

So, I have to say, as much as Iman is being insanely fabulous, this is not a WERQ for me…

    • Coolekat

I think if it were anyone but Iman, TLo wouldn’t be werqing.

    • Getoverit

Not a WERQ IMO either. Love the top half of the dress, hate the bottom half and the shoes. The lining doesn’t bother me except where you can see it at her underarm.

  • Lilyana_F

Stunning levels of fierceness! Seriously, designers should be paying her A LOT just to show up and shut it down in one of their pieces.

  • Sarah

I am mesmerized by whatever is going on with that model’s leg. Bad photoshop or amputee chic?

And yes, Iman is WERQing the hell out of that fugly dress.

  • frannyprof

Guys… no. It pains me to say this, because I adore you and normally I think everything Iman does is werq-worthy. But, not this time.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

That’s a nasty dress on one of the most beautiful humans on the planet. *Bows*

    • kimmeister

I want to slap Zac for designing a dress that highlights the armpit. Seriously, zero people have pretty armpits, don’t make curtains to showcase them.

      • CPK1

that was exactly my first thought.

        • wisdomy

Mine as well. That dress is awful. “BEHOLD MY ARMPITS!!!!”

  • kipper

NO, not even the true goddess genes of Iman can pull this “frock” out of anything but a bad Streetcar Named Desire production. She should have relied on the kindness of some stranger to talk her out of wearing this over worked Posen dress.

  • teensmom99

    Which way to studio 54?

  • Terri Terri

Damn! I sprained my ankle just looking at those shoes!

  • tereliz

Yup. Overworked, fussy dress that looks amazeballs on her. Iman can do no wrong.

  • marlie

She looks fantastic. I really dislike the shoes, but she’s OWNING that dress.

  • KateShouldBeWorking

Iman and David are the chicest couple. This is a fact, not an opinion.

  • Trickytrisha

My eyes! Those shoes! Oh well, the rest is definitely a WERQ. Zac Posen should be sending her flowers in gratitude for her elevating his so-so dress. Love the quirky factor on the model too.

    • tvmovielover

I agree-the shoes distract from the look even though that color is perfect on her.

      • CPK1

shoes are so fug. Iman is perfection, tho.

  • KayEmWhy

    Bow down peasants!

  • oohsparkley!

I can admit that she’s selling it, but I’m not buying it.

  • nicewilliams

    Eh. Not quite.

  • Tanya Wade

    FACE. Such a Modigliani beauty.

  • Tapetum

Suddenly Zac Posen’s love for the weird sleeve/half-capelet thingie in purple on Ken’s dress last night makes perfect sense.

  • largishbearishAtlish

I loved it, looked again, liked it, looked again…then it hit me- Funeral Parlor Curtains.

  • crash1212

Not sold. She is a stunning woman, and if anybody could make the overwrought Saloon Girl looks that Posen makes work, it is Iman – but – the combo of those awful shoes and the questionable hair makes this a fail to me.

  • PostsYouCanDanceTo

It takes a lot of poise to pull off a Zac Posen dress. The dress itself has so much presence (and usually NOT in a good way),it’s a battle of wills to keep from being overwhelmed by the dress, really. Fortunately, Iman has poise like none other and she brought a weapon just in case. Always two steps ahead, that woman.

  • anneland

Oh… I was going to say I don’t like the dress or the shoes. Then you brought it all home, TLo.

  • jilly_d

that lip color was made for her

  • BrooklynBomber

That dress is terrible, though I love the color on her. But, jeez, Posen. It boggles the mind.

  • Julie

Zac Posen has a way of making women look their best. And the ankle tattoo is killer.

  • sippiambrose

I would never deny bow down rights to Iman. That said, I can’t get on board with the hair and dress. They are too similar in style? pattern? It makes my eyes twitch.

  • Donna Tabor

Here’s my problem with that dress: the lining is meant to be “nude”, but for a light-skinned woman. To work on Iman in the same way the lining should have been a darker “nude”. Then it would have been stunningly ethereal. As it is, it just looks cheap, in my opinion.

    • Monabel

      Good observation.

  • LaSylphide

Definitely a case where the whole is a lot more than the sum of its parts.

  • PastryGoddess

She’s one of the few people in the world who can make Zac Posen look better. By better I don’t mean less ugly

  • BitchPuhLeeeze

Sorry. Gotta disagree. She looks like a down-market drag queen with that hair, make up and tit-less boy body. The dress is not doing her any favors either.

  • macwell

I totally bow to this woman!! She is DIVA personified.

  • demidaemon

  • bingo

looks like a more polished version of the dress Ken put out for PR last night that Zac blasted. no wonder!

  • filmcricket

Sweet merciful crap. Christina Hendricks is going to sport some version of this in the coming months, I can see it now.

  • amanda siegelson

i love iman – she’s dreamy… but the hair. no. not a fan at all. i can’t get past it.

  • quiltrx

That’s a really tough dress, but Mrs. Lady has whipped it into submission!

  • quiltrx

I just realized her big toe looks like it’s turning to look at her other foot. Her feet must be killing her.

  • Aaminah Khan

It helps that the colour is gorgeous on her.

  • Royal snaps for Iman but that dress is hideous. She should get a WERQ for making the look work through shear force of will.

  • gurl boy

Reminds me of the original YSL…model, Mounia!

  • Brad Watson

Brilliant woman in a head-to-toe heinous look. I’m surprised her stylist still has a windpipe. If in fact s/he does.

  • bellafigura1

In some pics, the flash makes it look like she has a grey streak on the swoop of hair in front — I wish that were the case, it would be fierce. Otherwise, I’m kind of cool on this. She looks like she would need help walking.

  • altissima

I wish the lining was skin colour or purple instead of white.

  • Imasewsure

It must be fun to be Iman… if mortal words like “fun” can apply to someone so far above us that is… LUV

  • Lattis

Man, I hate that dress. It has that creepy fussiness that coffin linings have.

  • ballerinawithagun

Thanks for pointing out the lack of a leg on the model. I was so distracted thinking that it was Marilyn Manson modeling for Zac Posen that I missed the missing leg!!!

Only Iman could wear a purple dress, purple eye shadow and purple lipstick and look so fabulous!

  • Lilithcat

Nope. I don’t care who she used to be, this doesn’t look good. Woman is riding on her reputation.

  • GTrain

I love the color of that dress and it looks terrific on her.

  • lilyvonschtupp

I swear the word WERQ was made specifically for Iman.

    Plus…look at the Bitch’s NAILS!

  • Judih1

Do not like her shoes, dress or choice of wig

    • murt

Yes that wig is horrible….. and she’s got way too much contour on her nose.

  • infochick

There are women and then there is IMAN! But what I really noticed is that the model in the Posen Collection picture is Pat Cleveland’s daughter Anna.
