Half of it looks like “tennis togs”.
The other half looks like something that Mrs. Livingston wore on “The Courtship of Eddie’s Father.”
LOVE Mrs. Livingston.
I was going to say: “Anyone think Vicky’s been taking tennis lessons?”
And the other half looks like it is for the golf course.
Interesting… I like it. It’s a far cry from her super body-con looks that she’s almost always put out. Nothing revolutionary or Earth-shattering, but definitely a nice step in her style evolution, and infinitely more wearable by a wider range of women.
I agree – if I were of a size to wear such things, there are a few here I would love to have.
Baggy Beckham. A definite change from her usual sleek designs. Did she eat an extra pea and feel fat the day she designed/approved those oversized clothes? Can’t imagine her wearing any of those roomy styles herself.
Apparently she was wearing something baggier at the show, herself.
looks like Mrs Beckham hired a new set of japanese designers for her line…
Eh. Nothing stood out to me as eye-grabbing and a lot of the white looks were hard to really see with the backdrop and lights. Quite a few of pieces read bulky and unflattering to me.
Its a bit softer and more accessible than prior collections. But that lifted side thing with the pleated underskirt looks rather obviously contrived. I’m sad it got used so much in the collection. it lessens the impact.
Yes, there is way too much repetition here. Not working for me.
I love the color palette though. the icy gray and the wine red in particular (at least on my monitor).
I’m not feeling this one. The baggy shapes would never look good on someone who you know isn’t a size 0 underneath. The skirts seem too short and overall, this isn’t the clean, feminine flattering look I’ve come to expect from her.
i thought I’d like them if the skirts were longer myself as well, because I DO like the dresses, but they all look like fancy tennis uniforms at that length. Everything looks too thigh-exposing lol. And the oversized, ill-fitting shirts and that coat are terrible.
Snoozefest. I was just looking at the horribly overdesigned Zimmerman collection and the contrast could not be greater. A total yawn.
I feel like she designed one outfit, then uploaded it to Paint and used that little paint can thing to fill in the outfit with a different color.
Ok, glad it wasn’t just me.
Yeah, looks like the same outfit every time in a diff color.
I love this. Her aesthetic is so modern, and I think the flirty hemline is really fresh and wearable without being twee. I can see lots of women wearing these pieces – women of different body types, not just stick thin models. I can really see Tilda and Cate working the heck out of some of these pieces too. Not every piece is a hit with me, but overall I think this is a really cohesive and interesting collection.
I really don’t love that “asymmetrical hem with ruffle” thing, but it’s nowhere near as disturbing as the fact that half of the models seem to have sprained both ankles, hence the Ace Bandage shoes.
… i kept thinking the models were riding the hems of their dresses up with their bags. Not a good effect.
I have a question:
Are there guidelines as to how far in advance collections are put out? Like, has it always been that NYFW took place in September and showed Spring collections? It’s technically still summer (for another two weeks, I think), and we’re seeing Spring 2014 looks already?
I have no idea, so I’m genuinely curious…
I know almost nothing about fashion, but I’m under the impression that it’s done early so that designers will have enough time to take orders and manufacture the garments before they actually go on sale in February-March.
The asymmetrical hem and under-pleating combination does nothing to me, I think some shirts here would work
There is a lot of the same, but slightly different. I vote No on this one.
Nothing interesting to see here folks. Move along.
I’m glad to be getting a break from all the exposed zippers that I thought she might never stop doing. Unfortunately the new detail she repeats over and over is that weird asymmetrical hem with pleating underneath, which is not an improvement. Someone needs to introduce Vicky to the writers’ adage about killing your darlings. It’s one thing to have a cohesive collection. It’s another to send the same outfit down the runway again and again and again.
Not really digging the “ooh, look, I have a tennis skit on underneath” dresses. Everything else is also pretty meh.
Black, White , Grey with a few pops of Red….Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Look at it this way, at least La Jolie can find a new dress here. Zzzzzzzz indeed.
Those are some androgynous models.
Yeah, which was an odd choice to me. I couldn’t help thinking that most of these looks would benefit from being worn by someone with some more feminine curves. It’s almost like none of her models showed up on the day, and she had to grab them from someone else’s show.
Experimenting with adding volume, not quite sure what to do with it yet…
Meh. Wasn’t there a PR contestant in recent years who did that floating triangle effect? Was it Dmitri?
Yes and before that many other designers, Alexander Wang comes to mind..who even ripped it off from someone else
Clearly showing my fashion noob-ness
Yup. I know he wasn’t the first person to do that, but that’s all I can think of when I see these now. Didn’t one of the other collections from the other day have this same technique, too?
Was more into last season. I like the gray, hate that pink. Some of it is giving me Stella vibes.
I’m digging the icy gray/periwinkle color and the triangle cutouts, but not really feeling the rest. Posh, I was rooting for you!
That grey-blue color was the only thing that grabbed my attention. Everything else is snooze-inducing.
Posh Spice is not so spicy. Blah and more blah.
I thought her ‘girl’ was a powerful, sexy business woman. This isn’t reading that.
I like the bags more than the collection, but those deep pink dresses are nice.
I like about half of these, or at least where they could be taken when altered for mere mortals. And I would seriously consider killing everyone here for the wine & black number, if there were ever a chance I’d look good in it.
Looks a bit mumsy to me.
I don’t know – it’s pretty ugly and unimaginative. This is what happens when you get to have a line just because you have a famous last name, ala StellaMcCartney.
In Victoria’s defense, her previous collections have almost all been beautifully well cone, with really lovely, figure-flattering, body-conscious pieces.
Stella has never put out anything interesting (at least in my opinion). How she manages to STAY in the business baffles me.
Not feeling it but then again I really hate that short flouncy style of dresses and some of the longer dresses look a bit like hospital gowns.
So…we’re still going to be stuck with black-and-white next spring, too, huh?
You got a budget that any designer would kill for and THIS is what u come up with? Sad.
Love Beck’s oeuvre. Even when she’s biting off Roland Mouret. Her Fall 2012 collection knocked me out! This just doesn’t contain any stand out details like previous collections. The tennis motif isn’t very interesting. The geometric elements of the tops don’t add much to the design. I just shrug w/ every look.
The best part of this show was that Harper Seven was seated next to Anna Wintour and she got Anna to smile. I see a VOGUE cover in her future.
Definitely a “Tennis” collection. And the pieces that weren’t were unshapely and even made some of these super skinny models seem off. It seems like if she’s going to do a “simple lines” collection like this she really needs to stick to the sporty wear. I don’t seem to ever really “get” her designs….
I like the bags. Other than that, nothing that grabs me although I approve of the use of fuschia. The best look was probably seen on Victoria herself, that outfit I liked and got.
Is that a thing now to carry large bags like a clutch? Looks silly to ignore the handles.
Aaaannnd here’s my closet full of everyday separates.
Did she hire Comrade Snape? These look like costumes from a Kylie Minogue video. A few cute dresses, and a lot of proportion problems.
I really like the grey and white numbers, some of the rest of the stuff looks a bit too much like what Gaga is wearing now for her latest stunt…
All I can see in the print is Issey Miyake…
The whole collection reads “postpartum depression” to me.
Another Spring with black and white? Nooooo, please.
I am not digging those sprained ankle wrapped shoes in the first 1/4 of the collection.
Nooooo! I’ve always —to my surprise — liked her stuff because of it’s clean, tailored and structured lines. This looks unimaginative and not even flattering.
I like it!
I would never have known this was a VB collection just by looking. It’s so extremely different from her usual clean and classic but sexy lines (however derivative one could argue they are). This? Is so very Stella.
Rather underwhelming on the whole, but I just wanna know how she got Ewan McGregor to walk in her runway show. (4th pic from the top)
Meh on the clothes, can’t stand the shoes.
Yes I see tennis too. Sad that they didn’t appear in time to be whisked over to the US Open Final to save Azarenko and Serena Williams from the travesties they wore to the final (and throughout the tournament).
As for wearing the in real world where tennis balls are flinging about at 90 mph, I don’t even think Miss Vicki would look that good in most of them. Although with little Harper on your hip as an accessory, maybe you wouldn’t notice the odd flounces at the hem. Cute little button, isn’t she?
I love this. Chic. Easy to wear…for the most part. I think Vicky is the real deal!
I usually like her stuff but she lost me with this. all of a sudden after several smart seasons, it’s gone student-y!
You know who looks good in white? People with dark skin. You know who doesn’t? These models.
As much as this has been chatted up around the internet, I was expecting a lot more. I will, however, knock you all down for that bag 6th look down!
I do like the tastefully deployed bits of sheer, particularly the triangular ‘windows’ looks.
The majority of this looks like fabric sacks.
Eeeh gads. What a boring show!
I think she’s a talented designer but you wouldn’t know it here. What’s with the little skirts that look like they got caught in the models’ panty hose right before the show?
Those pleated skirts are the worst omg. And she should know considering I’m assuming she went to school in Britain.
I usually love me some VB…but this….*yawn*
I will always love her designs. This brings it in another direction without losing too much VB. I definitely see her in it even if it is not the most interesting collection we’ve seen.
Bereft of inspiration. “My skirt is riding up” and smocks do not a new look make.
rarely have i been so bored in my life. wake me when it’s over.
