Victoria Beckham in London

Posted on September 17, 2013

Looking at these shots, we feel like Patsy Stone, waiting for Edina to tell us who she’s wearing so we can decide whether or not it’s fabulous.

Victoria Beckham leaves Vogue UK dinner party held at London Balthazar in a look from her latest collection.

Victoria Beckham Spring 2014 Collection

Oh it’s Victoria Beckham? It’s fabulous, sweetie.

Well okay, maybe. We do love the pants – and the entire silhouette, actually. But we’re not quite sure anyone other than a profession clothes-wearer can handle that boxy sweater. Maybe if it was paired with skinny pants or a skirt, but the more we look at this, the more we’re convinced that even a PhD-level dresser like Vicki Posh can’t quite work this – and she’s the one who designed it. Great look, but very model-specific.

Still, you can’t beat if for serving up Fashion Bitch realness on a grand scale.

She looks both hungry and sad.

  • MannahattaMamma

she has the longest upper lip in all of fashion. and she looks v. unhappy. give that girl some comfy pants & a snuggly thingy, plus some hot cocoa. with marshmallows.

    • Blair Sylvester

Like the quilted blanket dress she wore a few days ago? That definitely looked comfortable and roomy enough to fit her whole collection (models included) underneath it

    • alyce1213

Yes, if she were a man, I’d recommend a mustache.

  • Clueless_Jock

Almost monastic in its severity and negation of femininity. I’m relieved that she wore high heels.

  • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

She looks….tired. All I know is having that sweater action all up in my face would drive me bonkers.

    • MoHub

And we all want to look as if we have no necks.

  • Rhonda Shore

I like the severity of the look…

    • Adriana_Paula

      Me too.

  • Jaeda Laurez

I want the shirt untucked again, it balanced the boxy look of the sweater.

    • RoseJB

      Agreed.

    • LaurieRoz

I don’t think the shirt is tucked in – just hemmed shorter on her than the model. I think a more fitted shirt – tucked or not – would do wonders in showing off her figure under the boxy sweater!

  • hughman

    Dour Spice.

    • alyce1213

      Hughman, I love you because.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

She looks exhausted. Someone take that woman home and make her nap!

  • Sobaika

I hate it – but I kind of like it? It’s different from her usual look and she’s wearing it a lot better than I ever could.

  • In_Stitches

Why not go with the trend and wear it with nothing underneath? I suppose the idea of a sweater with a bare midriff makes no sense in terms of accommodating for weather, but Posh is above such trivial things.

    • RussellH88

Because I have a feeling that an exposed Victoria Beckham midriff looks like a rib cage.

  • MilaXX

I a sure there are humans who could wear this and make it work. I am not one of them. That turtleneck give me hives just looking at it.

  • Meredith

    It looks trying too hard.

    • MissusBee

      Agreed.

I adore a minimalist, mannish look when carried off right, but the pointy heels tell me she’s not really committed to it. It’s like she’s saying ‘I DON’T JUST DO BODYCON!’ but actually she’s dying to get back into something that restricts her breathing the way good fashion should.

Also the whole ‘wealthy grown-up woman done up like an undernourished boy’ thing is not helping.

  • RebeccaKW

I kind of like it on her. I wish the white shirt was long rather than cropped, though. But I’m not sure who else this look would work on-Keira or Zoe maybe? Tall, mostly straight bodies?

  • mjude

i kinda like it but on the other hand the sweater/shirt reminds me of my catholic school uniform back in the day.

    • teensmom99

You say that like it’s a bad thing. Of course, I went to Jewish school so I have Catholic school uniform envy.

  • Alexandra Pimenta

It looks exactly like that time I tried to knit a sweater!

  • kalisa

    Haha professional clothes-wearer.

  • Kate4queen

She looks tired and rather like a school prefect.

  • tereliz

Ooh, I really want to like it, but the pleating in the pants and the proximity of that collar to the face is not working for me. Love the silhouette.

  • madscntst

What’s the matter Vicki? Why so glum?

    • Candigirl1968

Because the photographers are getting on her nerves.

  • Monabel

She must not have liked her dinner.

    • teensmom99

I don’t think she has ever liked dinner.

      • formerlyAnon

I think that whether or not she likes dinner works the other way – she is going to allow herself 4 bites and then a side of steamed spinach either way. So maybe she looks sadder when she likes dinner.

        (edited)

  • Mrs. Julien

Why does she look so forlorn?

  • Candigirl1968

Only one other Phd in clothes comes to mind – Rooney. She would totally rock this outfit.

    • Mrs. Julien

      YESSSS!

  • filmcricket

Love it. Not many people could pull it off, but she’s doing it well. The poor woman looks exhausted; she must not sleep during Fashion Week.

  • SewingSiren

Poor little thing. Hasn’t she any friends at all?

  • alyce1213

The pants things are just as bad as the top — only an infinitesimal percentage of humans can wear them.
I’m channeling the Duchess — “Oh sure, every woman wants to short and thick.”
    She looks so weary.

  • decormaven

Goodness, grab a blankie & a corner, and get a nap. Those are some tired eyes.

  • teensmom99

My new favorite expression: “very model-specific.” I can deploy it and pretend I was at Fashion Week, too.

  • YoungSally

Has a little bit of a Madonna circa Borderline + Mother Abbess thing going on…with a little Artful dodger thrown in for good measure.

    • 3boysful

I think she looks like she’s dressed to go inspect bomb areas for the UN.

  • Lilak

Interesting how she’s bigged-up (embiggened?) so many of her styles lately, away from pencil-thin. As for this outfit, it’s pretty modest compared to the blue parade float she wore the other day.

    • LaurieRoz

Maybe it’s her answer to the “embiggening” of America? “Bigger women can’t wear my form-fitting silhouettes? Well, then how about pleated cropped pants and a boxy sweater? I’ll even throw in an oversized turtleneck to hide their double chins!”

  • flamingoNW

    Girl, that’s not your – oh wait…

  • Ava Lehra

    Love it. Totally serious. Fin.

  • A Shiny O’Connor

And debuting her own line AGAIN to a room full of Vogue and its guests.

  • crash1212

I’m no model and I had a sweater very similar to that one – it was a bit longer – and I totally rocked it with jeans and boots. Of course, nobody said “Oh honey, you’re a MODEL”! to me, but I thought I looked cute. I love this look.

  • GorgeousThings

All that black right around her face makes her look tired.

  • formerlyAnon

Everything is good but the sweater, as has been noted. But she’s not looking too perky.

  • Austin Morris

Works much better on the model, who’s much taller than Victoria. I think it needs the length of the white shirt to balance the pants and shirt proportionally, no?

  • HVM

She can do no wrong in my eyes.

  • Jacquelyn

I do like the pants but the top half isn’t my favorite.

  • Tracy_Flick

I like the proportions better on her than the model. It’s a bit pedestrian on the model, it’s more eye-catching in that awkward clam-digger length. Only she could pull this off. Plus, I bow to her bitch-face. Serve it, Posh.

  • largishbearishAtlish

all I keep wondering is where are the straps on that straight jacket???

  • Synnae

I actually like the whole look, but yes, it is only for a particular kind of woman. Thin, edgy, fashionista. Rooney (as called out by another poster) is a good example, also SWINTON. She’d kill this look.

Not surprised Vickie looks knackered btw, between NYFW, a toddler and jet lag I am surprised she’s actually able to stand up and move.

  • nannypoo

She always looks either angry or sad. Here it’s sad, maybe because her outfit is ugly.

    • Ronni H.

      So true…

  • http://marshmallowjane.com/ marshmallowjane

There has been much written about Victoria and her stern face. But, honestly, she looks like she has been crying in the last episode.

  • Trickytrisha

I swear I thought she was wearing a neck brace in that first pic. She’s certainly getting a lot of mileage out of those pants and the wide leg pose to show them off. Maybe this kind of gloom is her reality, but on paper she seems to have the perfect life.

  • judybrowni

    Oh, I don’t know.

That whole outfit screams Insane Temp Worker, to me.

I’m going to skip her second day at work, because that’s when she brings the Uzi…

  • JauntyJohn

    If The Little Match Girl won the lottery, she might look like this;
Wan and uncertain and in need of a half sandwich.

  • elemspbee

    LOVE this look. Cheers!

  • ShaoLinKitten

Why does she always look so miserable? She’s gorgeous, she’s married to David Freaking Beckham, beautiful kids, great career. I’m not even saying “Oh, smile!” which I hate, but just… stop looking like you just ate an entire lemon.

  • d4divine

I think it looks better with the long white shirt the model is wearing…VB had to shorten her’s because her proportions don’t allow her to pull that off…Big ups to her for making the adjustment…most don’t…but VB is special

  • CommentsByKatie

Those pants are awful. Everything else is passable.

  • quiltrx

Say it aloud…boxy, cropped, sleeveless, huge turtleneck sweater. NO.

  • ThaliaMenninger

I love the outfit, but holy turtleneck, she looks depressed.

  • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

    Hate it.

  • DeTrop

She can do little wrong in my mind. Love that she wore a feminine shoe with the outfit. Yeah for feminine shoes.

  • Fannie Wolston

Overall it is interesting. Though the cowl neck sweater vest is odd, she looks over baked in it and it’s making her face glisten.

  • mlle

I think you need a model-length neck to pull off that collar. It’s beautiful on the runway but covers too much of her face.

    • Ronni H.

It will be handy if she ever goes to Antartica

  • guest2visits

The over-sized dicky sweater is absurd. But I really like the whole white shirt, black knees pants and heels look.

  • Squareface

I am getting a strong Rooney Mara vibe here….
