Versace Spring 2014 Collection

Posted on September 26, 2013

The Versace brand, in its own way, is sort of like Cher now; an institution composed of attitude, glamour, and sex appeal that’s propelled itself beyond questions of taste. It’s glitzy and in your face and frankly, we can’t imagine that anyone would want it any other way. This season had a Guns N’ Roses theme to it because of course it did. The fun is in picking out the pieces and dresses that you know you’re going to see on the red carpet and then trying to peg them to the wearer.

    • gabbilevy

Yeah… this one’s not for me.

      • Akmall Razlan

        well, none of us too.

    • filmcricket

Well, I guess we can assume Paula Patton will show up in at least one of these outfits.

Good grief there’s some cheap, tacky, trashy shit in there. I mean, all of it’s tacky and trashy, but some of it looks bargain basement, too. I suppose a good bit will show up at the Grammys?

      • ballerinawithagun

I was thinking bargain basement also. H & M will have a similar look first, then Toda Moda and all of the other cheap knock-off stores (can’t call them boutiques) and you won’t even be able to tell the difference!

    • Latin Buddy

No. I love a good tacky explosion as much as the next queen but this is poor designed. Then again, I’m more of a Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta gurl.

      • Kiltdntiltd

Dear Donatella is never going to be remembered for her design skills.

      • Jessica Freeman

I am as well, so it’s hard for me to look at this and not immediately think “full on shittery”.

    • homofascist

“This season had a Guns n’ Roses theme to it because of course it did” has made my life for the moment.

This isn’t my taste at all, but there are some fun pieces. Those skinny leather pants up towards the top are amazing, and I can see a few of those jackets being great.

      • homofascist

Now I have ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ stuck in my head…

        • ballerinawithagun

Great song, Sweet Child O’ Mine is one of the best rock songs ever.

          • kimmeister

The guitar solo from that song is my fantasy solo, should I ever learn to shred the electric guitar.

            • ballerinawithagun

Just in case you didn’t know, Duff McKagen has a great new band called Walking Papers. Check them out.

    • kimmeister

Can you imagine how cold that metal hardware must be against your chest when you first put it on? Miley’s already signed up for those.

I do like the 2 criss-crossy white dresses though.

      • JDreesen

i’m going to go out on a limb here and say it’s about as cold as…November Rain.

        ….that’s right; i went there.

        • mmebam

        • kimmeister

You keep that up, I might run out of Patience.

          • Sarah

        • Alloy Jane

And bless you for doing so.

    • Monzerrat Ontiveros

      welcome to tackyland…

      • Clueless_Jock

I thought this was Guess by Marciano.

      • Akmall Razlan

Well, obviously, Donatella lost in ther own tackyland.

    • Andrew Schroeder

The REAL question is, is everyone ready for the “House of Versace” Lifetime movie?

      • annabelle archer

        All the yes!

      • alyce1213

Can’t wait. Gina Gershon is pole dancing.

      • Kiltdntiltd

Hells to the yeah!!! A 2 hour wallow in self indulgence. I’m on board.

      • BayTampaBay

It’s gonna be great in a “Dynasty” over the top way and Gina Gershon can actually act as an added bonus.

      • Jessica Freeman

Yes, please! Gina was a make up owner on Ugly Betty and even then I only saw her as Donatella. She’s going to be great.

      • Nancer

      • decormaven

Oh yeah! That’s going to be full of cheesy goodness.

    • H2olovngrl

I was thinking, enh, this isn’t so bad. Then we took the boob chain into tacky town.

    • PeggyOC

      Donatella, you have no taste.

      • Akmall Razlan

Sorry, she does have taste. The tacky taste.

    • annabelle archer

Versace, trashily dressing Hollywood’s most coked out hot messes, since 1978. Bless.

    • MGMcD

As a collection its pretty in your face tacky, but a lot of the separates are pretty cool like the leather skinnies and textured full skirts. Even a couple of the dresses (the ones without the fifth element bandages and chains) are nice.

    • ojosazules

Mz. Lohan comes to mind- but can she afford Versace?

    • Lisa Hager

This collection makes a lot more sense if you imagine it as clothes for the real-life Jem and the Holograms movie, with the black pieces for the Misfits and the pastel pieces for Jem and her friends. Truly, Truly, Truly Outrageous.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

Too many exposed belly buttons for my taste.

      • kimmeister

The 10th look down in particular seems to be designed to highlight the navel.

    • hughman

“I want dog leashes, I want stick thin models who haven’t eaten in weeks, I want flouncy skirts and nipples, I want pants so tight you can find your G-spot. Now GET OUT.”

      • annabelle archer

If I had a nickle for every time I said that while at work….

    • VioletFem

I like jackets and some of the pants. You really have to do some mental editing with this line (or with all things Versace outside of the Attelier collection). Side note: is anyone going to watch that lifetime movie about Donatella Versace starring Gina Gershon? It looks like it is going to be bats**t crazy. I hope it’s good (even for Lifetime standards) or at least, so bad that it is fun to watch.

      • MilaXX

I can’t wait to see that movie.

    • MilaXX

I can easily see the white bandage/buckle dress (#5) and the black one further down (#8) on either Mara sister. The more colorful pieces I see on any of the young 20 somethings, the denim pieces scream KStew, and the clingy pieces on housewives on folks like Kat Graham.

      • BayTampaBay

I want it all for me! I would never wear the collection as shown on the runway but about 80% of the pieces are fantastic and could be worn in a toned down manner.

      • decormaven

Yes, lots of this is in KStew’s wheelhouse. Rihanna will go for the ones with lots of chains.

    • YoungSally

A lot of this reminds me of that old classic —- “The Jordache Look…the Jordache Lo-oh-ook!”

    • Ginger

Because vag straps are just what this world needs right now. SMH

      • Jessica Freeman

Because Miley needs some updated bandage to wear, that’s why.

    • R. L.

    • lalahartma

It wasn’t as bad as I feared.

    • PastryGoddess

January Jones is going to try and pull off one of those gowns at the Golden Globes.

I’m thinking either the white one with the gold boob shield or the lavender one with the gold chain

      • Imasewsure

Yes she will… with bad hair and the wrong makeup of course!

      • VicD

I thought the white and gold one would show up on the Khaleesi in a pivotal temple scene on Game of Thrones.

    • sleepycat

I actually can see some wearable pieces, but it is still tacky.

    • Bethany Roullett

Yeah, we’re gonna be seeing a lot of this collection on the starlets. I also predict that whoever wears the black leather minidress (the one with the two textures of leather) is going to wear it to show how ‘edgy’ she is, and then not be able to pull it off.

    • formerlyAnon

There’s a lot more here that I don’t hate than in most Versace collections. Most of it is not gonna look great even on celebrity bodies, but since Versace seems worn so often just to remind the viewer that one HAS a body, no damage done.

      • BrooklynBomber

If you don’t look at it all at once, you can see there are wearable pieces, right? A number of them. It’s just all at once it’s a little overwhelming.

        • formerlyAnon

Exactly. That and the fact that the ones not to my tastes are SO not to my tastes.

          • Lattis

the skirt(s) that flares out from the hip line is going to be the item to diet for amongst the young

The skirts you are talking about give the models the oddest proportions. Reminds me of the name of a doll that the Mystery Science Theater guys made up – “Johnny Long Torso.” Looks like the model’s torsos go on and on.

          • BrooklynBomber

You don’t see yourself in any of the bondage bandeaux?

    • rkdgal

      Miley…Miley…Miley…Miley…oh wait, they’re all Miley.

      • BrooklynBomber

And here I was thinking, please don’t let Paula Patton see this.

    • Lilyana_F

Surprisingly, not as tacky as usual.

    • Imasewsure

I’m questioning my own taste level because I really like some of these pieces (not the stuff with chains or bondag-y looking aspects of course). I might even want to see those one-lace-leg pants on KStew and that first purple dress on LiLo….

    • Glam Dixie

Isn’t Rihanna already wearing about half of this stuff? Especially the boob chain, midriff baring ones?

    • ConnieBV

      All. On Heidi.

    • Adrianna Grężak

Mixed feelings. I understand the brand, but some of these are just tacky. Some looks look inspired by the rocker (such as the pants/larger blouses) whereas other looks look inspired by stripers and/or groupies.

    • TLJezebel

I see Heidi wearing several of these pieces, no?

    • SewingSiren

      Ticky tacky ‘ho.

    • jenrsmall

Man oh man, those are some severly skinny models.

    • GorgeousThings

Oh man, clearly Donatella spent time observing the Russian tourists in Paris, because several of the ones in line at Versailles with me were dressed like some of those day dresses. And I’m not being snarky (much). I am dead serious. I was in the entry line with a Russian tour group, and half the women were dressed like this, and half were in low heels and capri pants.

    • RussellH88

If you don’t read this as “Versayce” in your mind, then we cannot be friends.

    • MoHub

Do we think Donatella would even have a career if she weren’t Gianni’s sister?

      • GorgeousThings

    • International Model

I love this collection because while I never had sex in a car with the lacrosse team, I had often dreamed of being such girl and wearing such clothes.

    • NoveltyRocker

Some of the structured tops are interesting. That’s about as much sq. footage of Versace I’d inject into any outfit.

    • Darren Nesbitt

#3 Baggy denim coat dress = Rihanna

      • conniemd

All the boob chains spoke Rihanna’s name to me.

    • Kent Roby

It’s gotten so bad with the sheers lately that I looked at several of these exposed-nipple looks and thought “Wow, that’s really conservative for Versace”. Now, only the gynecological front slit looks particularly trashy to me.

    • sleah_in_norcal

full-on hootchy-mama. heidi klum for sure.

    • marlie

We’re going to see half of this collection on Heidi over the next 6 months.

    • erinbinek

Rihanna, Rihanna, Rihanna, Rihanna, ad nauseum.

      • CatherineRhodes

        Exactly what I was thinking!

    • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

Sometimes I think Donatella Versayce isn’t interested in covering genitalia, only herpes lesions.

    • Jai Piper

When half the clothes are showing boobies . . . it’s it really clothing anymore?

    • whirligig7

Cray. And fug. And more than my annual salary for like 3 of those pieces.

    • Trickytrisha

Gee, how very daring of you, Donatella. Uncovered nipples and slits up to the, well…slit? Too much trashy going on, but what else could we expect. Ho hum.

    • quiltrx

I want that lavender satchel SO HARD.
If you’re going to do tacky, at least put some interesting design details in it. (I see none here) And get some fabrics that don’t look CHEAP…I’m talking sale-table-at-Hancocks-cheap.
When GnR did it, they looked put-together…and they were poor at the time!

    • Alloy Jane

Yyyyeaaah, thanks, but no thanks. Oh, except for the black jeans with the cut-out leg rose. I would totally wear those to a metal show.

    • Jacob Bowen

If Slash came with any of these outfits I am SURE my cousins would give Versace their entire salaries. I actually like SOME of these outfits but that white dress with the shiny fabric tacked on looks AWFUL and like a bad Santino Rice afterthought.

    • Aaminah Khan

EMBARRASSING CONFESSION: If I had the money, I’d wear Versace.

Why not? It’s stuff for young, sexy, party girl types, and that’s how I like to dress when I go out. (Besides, I’m not gonna have this body forever, so I may as well live it up while I can, right?) I know some of it’s a little tacky and out-there, but I see worse on girls in clubs every Saturday night. Some of this is honestly downright demure by clubwear standards.

    • Akmall Razlan

This collection actually created for Donatella Versace. She created, crafted these pieces for her and for her only could these pieces work. Urm, what has happened to the business?

    • Rebecca Clifford

This is like really bad ersatz Versace. Jesus, do I miss the guy. I went to the Met exhibit back in the day and was so impressed with the way he knew how to use material- draping, cutting, the whole bit.

This collection is a downright mess.

    • Flooolia

My, the early 2000s are back so soon…

    • kimiakay

Some of the jeans/t-shirts/chains combos remind me of Ed Hardy wear. Kinda sloppy, but interesting. Those chains on top look uncomfortable. The tiny little tops will only be able to be worn by the boobless or near boobless, or there will be major fall out. Considering the source, nothing here is too surprising.

    • LadyLuck777

I can see Heidi Klum in a lot of these.

    • disqus_LQmjCZP25F

Not a bad collection. I actually like a lot of the pieces. My prediction is that this collection will sell very well, certainly among the younger set.

    • Buffy

I don’t know why, but “ladylike” is the word that comes to mind. For Versace that is
