Tom Ford Spring 2014 Collection

Posted on September 17, 2013

With Tom Ford, it’s all sex, glamour and high-impact, all the time. An aesthetic like that can be hard to continually recreate while still remaining chic (See: Versace), but that’s part of what makes him such a household name as a designer. He has an almost Madonna-like ability to recreate himself within the somewhat narrow restrictions of his own aesthetic. In other words, here’s another sexy/glam/impact set of looks from Tom Ford, but this time the feeling is all structured leather and mirror mosaics.  Some of it works, some of it doesn’t, but it all demands your attention and, in all likelihood, you’ll be able to recognize any of these as Tom Ford creations the next time you see them, whether that’s in a magazine or on a celebrity. Even as he alters it over time, the Tom Ford look is unmistakeable.

Drool-worthy, even if the leather pieces are reminiscent of the Balmains that ladystars rocked this summer.

    • Let it out

The jackets, swoon. The only other piece I covet is the blue mosaic leather dress that Cara Delevingne is rocking. (And give me gorgeous gams to wear it, please.) Most of the rest seems, I dunno, messy?

      • Lesley

i think your talking about the dress josephine skriver is in, cara’s not in this show. however, i completely agree with you – my favorite piece from this collection.

        • Let it out

Dammit, you’re right. Edited. They do look a bit alike, no?

          • Lesley

i could see how you can confuse the two. their my two favorite models, both stunning

      • Lesley

that’s josephine skriver in that dress, i completely agree with you – its my favorite piece from this collection

    • In_Stitches

I’m in love. I’m getting a hint of McQueen’s influence in the fanciful construction and concept.

    • sablehunter

Oooh. Pretty and shiny. Who will be the first ladystar to rock the stained-glass mosaic catsuit?

    • Imasewsure

I kind of dig those fish net ladder stockings although they are bound to be worn by the tackiest celebs in the tackiest ways. Love a lot of the minis here too. Way too 80′s for me overall though

    • Jaeda Laurez

I Love the leather and the mosaic minis and jumpsuits. Everything else…eh.

    • shirab

Seems like the set designers didn’t think about how distracting that shiny floor/backdrop would be once the stage lighting and flashbulbs kicked in. Or they did, and liked the idea.

    • leahpapa

Prediction: the mosaic bodysuit will be the second coming of the Gucci bird dress. Kill it with fire.

      • decormaven

Yep, this one will be trotted out more than once.

    • MilaXX

      Real Housewives everywhere are drooling.

    • Little_Olive

I… don’t like it. Any of it. Nothing appeals to m as original/beautiful/chic.

    • purpleprose78

Very Star Trek which is in no way an insult.

    • Diego!

What an interesting collection! I don’t like AT ALL the big leather brown jackets at the beginning of the show, but from there it got better and better! I can see Britney, Lady Gaga, Miley Cirus and even Katy Perry wearing many of the outfits here presented, very very interesting and I like it very much!

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

No more sheer skirts, please. I am begging you.

      • rh33

At least there weren’t granny panties…something to be thankful for.

    • MoHub

Is he going for androgyny? Because some of the models look more like guys in drag.

    • Samuel Joesph Donovan

The jackets are TO DIE, even if the armscye could all stand to be dropped a an inch or two. Those mirrored tunic/pant looks are phenomenal. His best effort to date, in my opinion.

      • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

I’m with you on the jackets…I covet them heavily.

        • joything

          Dittos to infinity!

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

That blue mosaic jumpsuit has ‘Florence Welch’ written all over it.

    • hughman

The clothes are a big “of course”. And while most of them are pretty, these models aren’t who I really see wearing most of this. I want to see mature, powerful, Glamazon women with money to burn showing this shit off. These girls are slouching from clurb to clurb in the Meatpacking District. I want to see a woman who has her own table at Le Cirque and the Four Seasons.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

nothing says spring like a high neck buttoned up alligator skin coat, available in brown and black.

    • Monday1900

Blech–do not like. The models remind me of reptilian aliens, not really the look I’d go for.

    • boweryboy

None of this reads “spring” to me.

Are designers now creating their spring collections with the intent of it being worn during the fall? I don’t get it.

    • joything

Jackets, coats, pants — yes. Thank you. The rest … whatever, baby.

    • jilly_d

Please GOD let no ladystars attempt any of those sheer bodysuits.

    • sleepycat

If I was female and had the money I would wear this stuff to work. If I was female for some reason I would be fashion bitch 24/7 even while working even if it was H&M.

    • GillianHolroyd

I liked this better than I thought I would.

    • ballerinawithagun

Love the black and white jacket, that is all.

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

For then entire first half, all I could think was “Tom Ford, for PETA.”

What can I say, sarcasm is my default setting.

    • shawna

Love it. If there was a chance in hell that I could fit into anything, I would wear it all.

    • Kent Roby

I’m totally gonna make a knock-off of the blue mosaic bodysuit and wear it to buy milk before any celebs are seen wearing the real thing.

      • formerlyAnon

You will be raising property values all around your home.

    • NMMagpie

I love this whole collection but it looks like most of it should be in a science fiction movie or two. The leather jackets are to die for.

    • SouthernGirlRena

The second shot looks like the model and dress are carved out of some really beautiful exotic wood. She should go stand very still in a park and scare people when they walk to up to her.

    • crash1212

Love the top half – the leather pieces – not as crazy about the bottom half – the mosaicy stuff. That black and white leather jacket is killer.

    • A Shiny O’Connor

This is a gay man who loves a woman’s body for all the right reasons.

    • Tanya Wade

Disco balls come to life! It’s very “Dance Hall Days,” and I love it.

    • NomadicRose

Am I the only one seeing tacky muscle car upholstery and garden gazing balls? Yes? Oookay then . . .

      • Nondescript

No, you are not. This is 80% hideous with a couple of interesting pieces.

        • NomadicRose

Do you think the mosaic ones crackle when they walk? I find myself thinking of the sounds some fabrics make when you move like corduroy between the thighs or the embarrassing rrripping sounds of leather against leather.

      • CatherineRhodes

        Haha very funny.

    • formerlyAnon

Such a range from lovely and useful-in-most-any-wardrobe to leather that reminds me of an armadillo costume and evening wear that allows one to work off the drinks tab moonlighting as the disco ball.

    • altalinda

The merkin on the 3rd from the bottom is startling. Love the red dress.

    • Synnae

Ok this bugs me. Big time. May be a tall girl’s thing but…

Those brown and cream biker-like tight sleeved leather jackets? I like them but why the hell are the sleeves on either jacket not coming down to or over the models’ wrists? It’s the show for heaven’s sake and they are obviously meant to be long-sleeved jackets, not 3/4 sleeved. It’s just sloppy tailoring (or wrong casting).

    • YoungSally

They are kinda fabulous for a certain personality/body type…but DAMN they are gonna make some UGLY knock offs by the time they get to K-mart/Target etc.

      • DuBey2

Thanks goodness that won’t be anytime soon. At least not down here in the deep south where Blek/Belk makes its home… Sigh…..

        • YoungSally

Oh I love the nickname Blek — never heard it before….but we didn’t have Blek in Atlanta….just Parisian…and this stuff is just fancy enough that I think Parisian (if it even still exists) would sell a version of it.

    • Trickytrisha

Gee, that last one – sheer black “skirt” with crocheted diaper? I can totally see a super wealthy 85 year old wearing it in her posh nursing home. I’m just not in a good enough mood to appreciate most of these. Some of the mosaic dresses are quite striking, though.

    • PastryGoddess

I’ll take one of every single jacket thankyouverymuch

    • DuBey2

4 and 6, get in my closet! And 14 up from the bottom (Red mirrored miniDress) – LOVE.
I pretty much love all these looks, and TLo’s intro at the beginning really had me set up for loving it.
Doesn’t matter that I’ll never wear (nor would dream of wearing most) – they are beautiful, interesting, and wonderfully constructed IMO. Ah, Fashion. And its all a LOT better than Versace, to me.

    • quiltrx

That silver mirrored jacket/top/whatever is KILLER.
I actually like a lot of the mirrored stuff, and the tops and dresses that look like they have a fishnet overlay (I can’t tell on some if that’s pattern or an actual layer). But I like them in a ‘fashion is art’ way moreso than a ‘good to wear’ way.

    • Akmall Razlan

this is very dramatic collection from Tom Ford. It is so dramatic. Great execution. Love it.

    • Scoop

      Not. Chic.
The Real Housewives of Moscow, indeed.

    • Erica_Vuitton

ALL I see is Balmain. Some are even dangerously toeing the referential/rip off line. I expected better.

    • http://armchairauthor.wordpress.com/ LesYeuxHiboux

Some of these ladies I am scared of for strong-n-sexy looking reasons, and others I am scared of for crazy-and-too-naked reasons. I could see both selling like hotcakes.

I like the scribbly dresses with the sheer bits, though I am 90% sure they fall on the “too naked” end of the equation in real life. The mirrored stuff is off the chain.

    • fursa_saida

Unusually for me, I really like pretty much all of this, even the cobwebby corpse bride looks. And bonus: could it be? Models of color?? PLURAL?!

      • somebody blonde

3 black models and 1 Asian! Seriously, it’s a miracle.

        • fursa_saida

WHAT BRAVE NEW WORLD IS THIS, THAT HATH SUCH [REPRESENTATION] IN IT

    • MissusBee

If I were Beyonce I would buy this whole line. All the looks a superstar with a killer bod could want.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1180174329 Elizabeth Phillips

Please tell me pleated pants aren’t coming back into style…

    • Laura Renee

Hmm, something about the lighting + the mirrored floors seems ill planned, as far as how some of these came out…

    • spooki C

I hate those mom jeans looking jacket sleeves, they’re just not flattering. Otherwise it’s pretty nice. I like the second to last look best.

    • kategs

The cut on that last one is seriously unfortunate. This collection leaves me cold…literally.

    • http://www.lippsisters.com/ Deborah Lipp

      Human disco balls!

    • guest2visits

I think those leather high heel sandals in the 1st few frames are wow.
Also like the black & white cellular/web type prints.

    • Inês Martins

A lot of stuff for Heidi here!

    • marlie

I like this a lot (except for the middle ~third). It’s edgy and sexy, but not the same-old-same-old sheer stuff we’ve been looking at the last coupler of seasons. I kind of want to see Gaga in one of those mirrored bodysuits.

    • Mary Ott Grande

Beyonce brought me here! The black mosiac mini and boots that she wore to the School of Visual Arts Theatre in NYC today.
