Tilda Swinton at Pringle of Scotland Flagship Store Launch Party

Posted on September 18, 2013

We come second to no man or woman when it comes to the Tilda worship, but is it okay if we say we’re underwhelmed by this one?

Tilda Swinton attends Pringle of Scotland Flagship Store Launch Party in London.

A Meryl Streep reject gown and a pair of ugly bedroom slippers do not a fabulous fashion goddess make.

We’re telling ourselves she has a cold or something. Let us never speak of this again.

That was not a mistake, it was a calculated effort to make lesser stars feel better about their own fashion. It is mercy, not folly that guided The Swinton that day.

  • Paigealicious

Is it bad if I say I like it? Even the shoes…if they weren’t too big for her.

  • Flavia Pantoja

    Let us forget…

I haven’t seen anything, have you?

  • Synnae

I love the dress. Just wish she would have put on a pair of shoes that actually fitted her…

  • PastryGoddess

    I saw nothing.

I wonder if we can get one of Men in Black memory erasers

  • marlie

The dress is rather boring, and though she could have livened it up with a statement necklace or better shoes, she wore these… bootie THINGS. I has a sad.

  • Clueless_Jock

Well, it’s a Pringle event. This would be totally avant garde for most of the attendees.

    • Corsetmaker

Not in recent years. It’s not all golf jumpers these days 🙂 (well still a bit)

  • Move along….nothing to see here people….

  • Angela_the_Librarian

At a quick glance I thought the description said “Pringles of Scotland” and thought it was odd she would attend such a function. At any rate, this would have been more acceptable with a shorter hem length and less hideous shoes.

    • kimmeister

Me too, although I wouldn’t say no to a bunch of perfectly stacked potato chips in a cylinder right about now.

  • Carla_Charlton

Since it’s Pringle, I’m sure that’s a cashmere dress; while the fit across the shoulders isn’t great, I’ll bet in real life that dress was super luxurious.

    • Heather

Yes, it would be sort of a cashmere caftan, wouldn’t it? So instead of Palm Springs or Fire Island one, I assume, wears this on one’s holiday in the Highlands or something.

  • Sarah

She still has that head on her torso, so she’s doing way better than most folks.

    • Cathy S

That’s what I was thinking. Just look at her from the neck up.

  • Carleenml

the whole event looks like priests on parade.

  • Erica_Vuitton

Humm… the last few posts of hers have been just a dress/jacket and shoes. No make up, no mani/pedi, no accessories. I need her to oomf it up back up a little bit for me to cry out “Who cares? It’s SWINTON!”

  • Eric Stott

A bit of jewelry would have helped- and the shoes are a crime

  • mjude

we still are not worthy of her even if she is in a meryl streep reject

  • Jacquelyn

    Oooooh Very disappointing.

  • Imasewsure

I think it must be laundry day at the Swintons…

  • crash1212

Huh. I’m kind of loving that dress. Those shoes should be burned and would it kill her to put a bit of color on those fabulous lips? Yes…I guess it would.

    • Heather

There’s always discussion here about her makeup choices (or lack thereof). I, too, am on the side of “some mascara, eyebrow pencil, and lipstick would only accentuate.”

  • Elizabeth Feild

Isn’t it a little strange that the flagship for Pringle of Scotland is in London?

    • Shawn EH

I guess even Tilda phones it in sometimes.

  • Monday1900

Tilda’s “meh” is a mere mortal’s “werq”: I think she still looks great

  • steeg of their own

Those shoes don’t look like they fit. Maybe it’s just the angle, but I can see the heel liner clearly behind her foot.

  • MilaXX

It hurts when the greats disappoint

  • Jacqueline Wessel

This is not the fashion goddess you’re looking for…move along.

  • 3boysful

I swear–I looked at this and said to myself, “Meryl Streep would wear that.”

  • Coolekat

No one in the crowd is looking at her – a true sig that it cant be her.

  • Trickytrisha

Miss T has been associated with Pringle for years, so this must be one of their designs. The shoes were obviously designed by a lesser demon from hell.

  • sk8tfan

She raided Angelina’s closet for that yawn of a dress.

  • 1carmelita

I don’t mind the simple dress, but those shoes are awful, awful, awful.

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

I’d love to look this bad on my very best day.

  • She has set the bar rather high, but that’s still pretty damn excellent for an off day.

  • my first thought, too, was that she looked a little piqued. let’s hope it’s just a passing cold.

  • Micaela Cannon

Why is the opening of a Pringle’s store a black tie event featuring celebrities though? …..Please tell me this isn’t a party for a chip. It can’t be. ….I’m just ignorant right? ….Please someone make the world make sense to me again and tell me this isn’t a party for a chip….can you imagine eating flavored pringles in clothes worth 10’s of thousands of dollars? I feel horrified right now. This can’t be what I’m envisioning.

    • demidaemon

Yes, but it’s much more fun to think that (and the outfit seems more appropriate for) an opening of a potato chip shop.

  • gurl boy

She looks amazing! TnL maybe u are just used to looking at all the celebs that have zero personality-style as opposed to one who could give a damn?

  • Pterodactyl111

Do they sell Pringles at Pringle of Scotland?

    • Corsetmaker

Yes, but only lamb and mint sauce flavour 😀 By-product of the jumpers.

  • Why does that dude in the background look so tiny compared to everyone else (especially Tilda)? I feel like I’m looking at a medieval painting.

  • jif

But then, she’s at a Pringle launch party. The housedress-and-slippers look is likely deliberate.

  • shayna61

I had those shoes in the ’80s. They should’ve stayed in the ’80s.

  • Diego!

I’m sorry but I like it a lot!!! She looks taller than she already is! And slender, gee, like a goddess!

  • Corsetmaker

I like it. Don’t like the shoes, but the dress is elegant and simple…. and it’s a shop opening after all.

  • kategs

I think she looks terrific! I want those shoes.

  • mhlmh

    Is she pulling a Jolie?

  • livesarah

Ooh I would like to see her in a dress/outfit the same colour as those shoes. This is pretty meh.

  • demidaemon

She is at the Pringle Store Opening (I am not sure if this is the potato chip brand, or something else entirely, but I will assume potato chips for the remainder of my post). Perhaps, in honor of the namesake, she chose something that represented potato chips to her.
