Scarlett Johansson in Vivienne Westwood at the Under The Skin Premiere

Posted on September 11, 2013

Getting engaged to a hot French journalist apparently agrees with Miss Scarlett. Perhaps we should all seek out the comfort of hot French journalists whenever we’re in a style rut.

Scarlett Johansson (pictured with director Jonathan Glazer) at the “Under The Skin” Premiere during the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival in a Vivienne Westwood dress paired with Roger Vivier shoes and Tiffany & Co. jewelry.

Westwood’s corsetry works really well for Scarlett’s figure and her askew aesthetic keeps the blue-eyed blonde from looking generic. It’s a brand she should seek out more often. It really plays to her strengths, unlike Dolce & Gabbana, which she favors a lot and which tends to frump her up quite a bit.

DETEST the shoes. Flames on the side of our face. Could’ve been a WERQ if she hadn’t slid her feet into those big suede boats. Tsk.

Hair and makeup are on POINT. Shoes are tragic.

      • Deb_Lynn

That bright soft honey(?) blonde is THE colour for her. Forget any other hair colour, this one’s perfect.

        • Carla_Charlton

And she looks glowing and fit — time spent on Riviera?

          • Beth513

Exactly, glowing. How we feel on the inside, it shows on the outside.

        • fursa_saida

I think she looks pretty amazing with the various shades of red she’s had as Black Widow, but I agree that for her actual self, this is the right shade. (Plus with red being so hard to maintain, I’d hardly expect her to live in it when she doesn’t need to the way Christina Hendricks does.)

      • SouthernGirlRena

Her eye makeup is perfect. Whenever I try that, I end up muttering uncomplimentary things about racoons and scrubbing it off.

    • charlotte

I think her bruise-like tattoo has been discussed before, but it really irritates me here. And does she have a doodle-like one on her ankle?
Love the dress though, (of course) hate the shoes.

      • MilaXX

Is she the celeb who also has Thor’s hammer or something on her wrist?

      • Spicytomato1

Ha, I had the same reaction to the tat, too. Otherwise I’m loving the look, minus the shoes, of course.

    • carpediva

      Breathing… heaving breaths….

    • MilaXX

Everything else looks so great I am going to pretend I don’t see those horrible shoes.

      • jen_vasm

Her profile looks like a cartoon character in those shoes.
I would have never thought to put ScarJo in Vivienne Westwood, but hell’s bells, Viv is a great match for her. Sort of on the opposite side of the spectrum from Helena Bonham Carter, but equally as smashing.

    • quiltrx

Really a cute dress, and really flatters her. And she can send me that necklace when she gets tired of it!

    • PastryGoddess

      Va Voom!

Perhaps we should all seek out the comfort of hot French journalists whenever we’re in a style rut.
I can get behind this idea wholeheartedly.

      • demidaemon

        Agreed 1000%.

    • elemspbee

      she’s luminous.

      • Linda LaPaz

I was going to say “radiant”.

        • elemspbee

          nicely put!

      • Gayer Than Thou

“Glowing,” as in “Miss Johansson glows.”

    • Sarah

Big Suede Boats (Flesh Toned) should be the name of a shoe company that all the celebs can then avoid like the plague.

    • decormaven

“Big suede boats”! LOL! She’s WERQing it, as long as the shoes are hidden. A pox on whoever saddled her with those things. She has never been more glowing- ah, love!

    • homofascist

I wish to seek the comfort of a hot French journalist.

    • annabelle archer

Something tells me that Scar Jo is the marrying kind. I predict an Elizabeth Tayloresque trail of fallen husbands. The rush of fresh love brings out the best in her and looking this good must be a powerful aphrodisiac. She is so effervescent one could *almost* overlook the shoes. But not quite, because those things are full on tragic.

      • Imasewsure

I hate the fact that I kind of love this idea… She needs a trail of husbands (although OF COURSE we all wish her a lifetime of happiness with her impending nuptials!)

        • annabelle archer

Of course. Each and every time. ; )

      • formerlyAnon

Love the E. Taylor reference. Not for any good reason but my mother’s grudging nod of approval for her : “Well. At least she *married* her men.”

    • crash1212

Was thinking the same thing re: WERQ…I was wondering why it wasn’t…then I saw the shoes. She does look absolutely stunning in that dress. Hair and make-up are perfection.

    • Imasewsure

The shoes are such an odd choice… and a bad one, as duly noted! Ignore the feet and she looks great!

    • The Gifted Collector

Is the woman in front of her taking her picture with a tape cassette?

      • Beth513

Ha! Yes, I think it’s her phone case, but that is supposed to be the idea.

      • Gayer Than Thou

Bless her heart — everyone else has a smart phone, and all she has is a cassette!

    • In_Stitches

…it’s a little Boobs Legsly, no? If it was a little shorter, it would be straight from her playbook.

      • demidaemon

It has little too much style, IMO, for it to be one of Boobs Legsly. Also, she would have styled it horribly with incongruous accessories.

“FLAMES! on the SIDE OF MY FACE! Breathing, breathl- heaving breaths, heaving breaths…heathing…”

oh, bless you, Madeline Kahn. your [albeit scripted, but brilliantly delivered] sentiments are a harbinger of reason and entertainment (reasonable entertainment? sure, let’s go with that) in the ever-raging storm that is my life.

      • Malice Grant

Actually, not scripted at all. There was a wonderful recent Buzzfeed article about the making of the movie and how that was the one exception to an otherwise hard and fast rule that they stick to the script. Totally her own creation!

        • JDreesen

i should have known! classic. she did something similar in Mixed Nuts (“heeeey!! i’m stuck in the elevator, get me please, come to get me on Christmas Eve!”). sigh.

    •!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I’ve always thought she was gorgeous, but HELLO CHEEKBONES. How’d I miss that before?

      • Erica_Vuitton

Because she used to have a curvier figure with fuller cheeks and now she’s all skinny and angular and IMHO generic.

    • sagecreek

      Happy agrees with her :)

    • Jacquelyn

Man, she is gorgeous. I will ignore the shoes.

      • kimzy22

I will ignore the shoes AND the horrible arm tattoo!

        • Getoverit

Love the dress, hate the shoes, tattoos dont bother me. The mouth in the first pic, I see that a lot on her. Is that her natural closed mouth look, or does it look to anyone else like a kinda of pucker pouch pose thing? I dont know why but it bothers me for some reason.

    • Laurie Landry

      Va Va Voom!

    • MiriamMc75

Wow TLo… I just watched “Clue” with my nine year old last night and then you come in here with the awesome Madeline Kahn quote! Love it!

    • Emily Compton

That Mrs. White/Clue reference is a regular in my house! :)

    • Ass Kicking Adviser

Like flames…flames…on the sides of my face.

    • Ass Kicking Adviser

Like flames…flames…on the sides of my face.

    • Trickytrisha

Dammit girl. Don’t be so fricking gorgeous all the time. Perfection is annoying. Oh.. wait. Those shoes. Scratch the perfection thing.

    • formerlyAnon

That is a great dress on her. Truly fantastic.

    • Alexandra Pimenta

Wow! Stephanie Tanner really blossomed! :D

    • Tatiana Luján

great dress. I like Westwood’s dresses better when they are made in printed fabrics.

    • Fordzo

Is the neckline supposed to be askew, too? (Gesundheit) If so, I think it needs to me *more* askew, because to me it just looks accidentally lopsided and not purposely lopsided.

    • kingderella

      looking fine, scar!

    • AlisonS

“Flames on the side of my face.” LOVE IT.

    • Laura Renee

Scarlett Johannson is my No. 1 celebrity of personal attraction these days, but even I was distracted by what seems to be a camera made to look like a casette, held by that chick to her left. How amusingly hipster-retro.

      • Lois Cameron

It’s probably an iPhone cover, my friend has one.

    • marlie

Westwood’s silhouettes look freat on ScarJo. But the shoes are all wrong. WRONG. Her hair and makeup are pretty, though.

    • stephbellard

That dude may be “French” and he may be a “journalist”, but there’s no universe in which he’s “hot.”

      • Nicola Anna Molly Page

that’s her director, not her intended. Google Romain Dauriac :)

        • stephbellard

Thanks! My bad. I have been schooled.

    • HM3

My God, this girl is tragically beautiful.
