Aside from the yellow skirt (3rd from the top), nothing in this collection really does it for me, and i can’t really figure out why. For some reason, everything kind of loos the same, even though it isn’t.
Some cute stuff and some not cute stuff.
My thoughts exactly.
Shoes are more than a little whack-a-doo, but very cohesive and some really cute pieces.
I think “whack-a-doo” is kind. “ugly” is more what I’d call them. I guess they’re one of those “only for the runway, not for reality” items.
I don’t know… They look like Tom Ford knock-offs that both Ann Hathaway and Rihanna (?) wore at some point.
Exactly. That’s the problem in one. They look like Tom Ford shoes someone took a bedazzler to.
Shoes really pull focus from the looks, and that’s a big negative for me.
The gladiator/sneaker boots are so ugly I can’t even look at anything else.
Fresh and relaxed…..have to say, I like it a lot. Nice relief from some of the takes-itself-SO-seriously fashion of these shows.
Those are some focus-pulling shoes there.
I can’t wear those shoes in the spring. It’s too hot where I live.
Indeed! Really frantic.
I love the clothes, but the shoes!
I wouldn’t want to wear those shoes, but I think they’re quite visually interesting
Talk about scroll down fug, those shoes are hideous!
They’re like shinguards and shoes in one!
The boots are really annoying, but could I have all those bags ;-)?
I can’t take clothes worn on such skeletal women seriously. There is modelesque and then there is something unhealthily and offensively beyond that. Add to that aggressively ugly shoes and I couldn’t tell you a thing other than the clothes were overly designed.
The boots are fugly. Very very fugly. The rest of the collection, a lot of individually very interesting and wearable items (and some very ugly unflattering ones) but horrible styling overall.
Some very cute looks, but dear lord, THOSE SHOES. Oh god, the shoes.
Not only are those shoes straight-up fug, but they throw off the proportions of the clothing. Total needle-scratch, and a complete collection-killer for me. NEXT!
So México is the new source of inspiration for all designers? Love it!
The shoes are fug but a lot of the clothes are really pretty! I love all the embroidery
She wins Fashion week if only for Janelle Monae
This doesn’t really seem like Janelle Monae’s style. Was her music used for the runway?
She performed during the show!
Would have loved to be there for that!
I rather like this collection. Of course I can’t wear a thing in it, but Rhianna, KStew and anybody in that age demographic could totally play it off. On the other hand, with a change in styling any 20 something could wear the floral dresses and look great.
This collection confuses me. It’s super-cohesive, but I don’t get it; it’s some sort of weird mix of juvenile, edgy, relaxed, and dated. Maybe it’s the styling? There are definitely some pieces that I like and would wear (though the shoes are SO not on that list), so I have to think it’s the styling that’s throwing me off. I do love that last dress.
Not really my thing, but some individual pieces are good. And those may seriously be the ugliest shoes (boots? contraptions?) I’ve ever seen.
I like most of this, but towards the end, started to get a weird mid-90′s vibe off some of the prints. Remember that whole sunflowers craze right around ’94-95? Yeah, seeing that, especially in the 2nd to last and that baby-doll dress near the end.
First scroll through i was too distracted by the orthopedic shin guard shoes. The second scroll through had me warming up to some looks, except for the grey striped jackets with the safety day glow strips, which were pure fug.
Boy those are some PHENOMENALLY ugly shoes.
I can’t pay attention to the clothes because of the torture devices on their feet.
It looks like Christian Siriano and Rebecca Minkoff both went to Mexico on vacation and came back with different inspirations: this one’s more literal (embroidered borders, braids, T-shirts) than his. Some of it works, esp. that yellow skirt ensemble that’s 3rd from the top. But some of the pattern mixes I don’t get. And the shoes, while visually attractive with some of the pieces, are so impractical. I couldn’t see packing them for a trip to the sun, imagine the tan lines.
Love the clothes, shoes are offensive, though..
I love most of the pieces individually but I really don’t like the way they are paired here.
Those shin-guard sandals are managing to give these models cankles.
A lot of shapeless stuff with torture device shoes. Not feeling it.
Are ugly shoes the theme for this year’s Fashion Week??
So they have an orthopedist on their design team? Can’t think of any other explanation for the things they put on the models feet and lower legs. I’m trying hard to appreciate the clothes, but can’t, since lots of them look like they were bought in the gift shop at a so-so Mexican resort.
What clothes?! I cannot unsee those effing shoes.
there’s a full range of horrific through adorable here. impressive accomplishment.
I really like a lot of this…. might check some of it out at Bloomies… but not the ridiculous footwear… that sh%t is ugly!!
I tend to love her handbags, but I’m not liking most of the clothing here.
The clothes are fine, but those tall sandals are distracting.
French Maid shorts??
When oh when will ugly sandal-boots go out of style?
Mexico inspired clothes, yes. Mexico inspired leg braces, no.
Janelle Monae was serving in the background.
Are these ethnic or sporty? Or some kind of hybrid? And those shoes puzzle me. I’m trying to figure out who would wear these clothes.
Lolling at the shoes, but it’s just a nod to the high drama of the runway, since, IMO, other than that the clothes seem pretty commercial, very wearable—if not exactly as styled—and the bags are nice. No surprises, just standard Minkoff.
Wow, and I thought the Nicole Miller show looked too Dolce
Shin guard boots. Nay.
Uninspiring clothes with over the top shoes. Who could notice the clothes with the very high shoes that drew the eyes right to them. Don’t think that’s what a designer wants in a runway show.
BOY, I GUESS HER INFLUENCES WERE MEXICO AND SOCCER.
It looks like a Project Runway group challenge in which they had to create a collection using only what they were able to steal from a Mexican birthday party. Right down to the abuelitas’ handbags and the little paper decorative flags. Those shoes are grotesque.
When are warrior shoes going AWAAAAAAY?
I like the Mexico influences in many of the pieces, first top especially. But those shoe/boot/wrap thingies? Glarghh! They’re distracting and nasty.
Clothes are super cute. Shoes need to be doused in gas and set aflame.
Is this an expanded Project Runway collection? That’s what it looks like to me and I’ve seen better stuff from the PR contestants in the past.
More misses than hits. Hard to tell from photos, but a lot of these look like kind of *ordinary* warm weather wear, and are not redeemed by “looking expensive” because they don’t look like they’re made from the perfect fabric or with lots of subtle, expensive minor touches.
(edited for clarity)
All of the clothes are fine (with a few highlights and a few definite klunkers, like the second to last look), but all of the shoes distracted me. Because they are HORRID and overdesigned.
It’s like a PR decoy collection. From a bad season.
So, giant and ugly gladiators are in vogue this spring? Dear God.
One of my favorite collections yet. Edgy, youthful, cool Mexican accents. That being said I’m not crazy about the shoes. I don’t hate them as much as everyone else seems to, but they detract from the clothes. I also hate the final few looks with the retirement home / rose tablecloth print. Well mostly just that print.
i love the prints, combining flowers and plaid, and playing with sheer and opaque. lots of beautiful prints and plaids in many collections this week. so good to see sunny colors after a year of black, white, and gray. especially adore the last orange look, floating on the breeze. dreamsicle.
