Ralph Lauren Spring 2014 Collection

Posted on September 15, 2013

In a way, you can’t go wrong with a mod ’60s London-inspired collection because the looks are almost certain to be fun. But when it’s coming from Ralph Lauren it has the added benefit of being wildly unexpected. Some of the schoolboy and menswear-inspired stuff gets a little on the literal side of things, but the overall collection is bright, fun and chic, with a ridiculous number of very wearable must-have pieces. Love it all.

  • Beautiful – the colour after all the monochrome has so much impact! I don’t like the floatier dresses, but the first one is very much like the cover of Noel Streatfeild’s Gemma, which I desperately longed for.

My Uncle Aiden got an awesome metallic GMC Savana by working parttime at home online. her response ►►►►►► PORT60.COM

  • I can see those cute school boy caps getting knocked off right quick and selling like crazy all over the place. Its a great collection. He clearly has one hell of a team.

Side note: This must feel like a purge after ingesting too much Fashion over the last week, posting these last collections for us all today. Many thanks to you both for all you do.

    • kimmeister

The gingham cap has my name written all over it.

  • Latin Buddy

OMG is thats the girl from America’s Next Top Model

    • JDreesen

Fatima? yes. you often find the more capable (and business-savvy) contestants from prior ANTM seasons peppered throughout fashion week. we’ve made it sort of a game in our house, trying to spot them working the current runways. the first time i recognized “Natasha! From Richardson, Dallas!!” walking one of these shows i almost peed my pants.

      • anneland

Was that Chris H. from the current season in Michael Kors show?

        • JDreesen

i don’t think so. he is one of my picks on the current season, so i…er…study his face…a lot (there’s just no way to say that without sounding like a creeper).

          • demidaemon

Heh. My favorite this year is probably Cory, though he won’t win because my favorite never does.

  • LaSylphide

A lesson in how to make black & white NOT boring or ‘been there, done that’. There isn’t a piece here I wouldn’t want (although I’d look pretty stupid dressed as a 67-year-old school girl/boy).

  • StelledelMare

In the words of Queen, “I want it all and I want it now.”

    • Derek_anny

In the words of Veruca Salt, “Don’t care how, I want it noowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!”

  • bellafigura1

The black and white pieces are genius. It’s actually hard for me to believe he’s not done this “take” before. It’s really making me want to shop, shop, shop.

  • DesertDweller79

Not loving the gowns, except the long white one. But, I love all the pieces above them. Wonderful black and white looks.

  • hughman

Abbey Road, Biba, The Shrimp, The Twigs. It’s all groovy. The neon is a little 60s via Stephen Sprouse but the rest is brill and remarkably restrained for Ralph.

    • decormaven

      Biba, ah, Biba. Love!

  • AmeliaEve

So bold and strong in a season that’s been very wispy and non-committal. I’m always a sucker for cute menswear, and the pattern mixing makes me very happy indeed.

  • MilaXX

Allison Williams must have creamed her pants. LOVE that black and white checkered suit.

  • kim bunchalastnames

omg, a NEHRU JACKET. it’s not too late!

  • beckytee

    pretty… pretty boring.

  • Aidan B

Cate Blanchett would rock that last off-the-shoulder, cape gown.

  • Synnae

Those final three evening dresses are gorgeous, as all the pant suits. RL is usually too preppy for me but this time I see a lot of items which could work in my wardrobe (if I could afford them that is). Completely in love with that B&W graphic print trench!

  • Nicholas

I suddenly fancy myself watching a game of cricket, after I play some whiff-whaff with my mates. How about it, chaps?

  • Matthew Davie

These clothes make me want to be a woman. Leave it to Ralph to make knee socks crazy sexy.

  • I am so tired of black and white. But really, these coats were to die. The collection as a whole was fun. Though I wonder if the bold primary pieces will seem odd in the world and out of this contextual story,

    • Fanny_Trollope

The coats, the coats. My kingdom for the coats.

  • boldprint

really enjoyed this; my style tends toward simple shapes/patterns with bright colors, so this is right up my alley. that graph-paper-patterned dress especially needs to get in my closet!

ETA: Karlie looks amazing in that blue gown!

  • BuffaloBarbara

Love it all. Probably the only thing that would fit me is one of the hats, but that’s okay, because I love those, too.

  • JDreesen

and now, there is nothing left to do but sit back and wait…for celebrities to take the exact wrong dresses for their body types from this collection and incorporate them into their pole dance appearances.

  • LJCdoc

Some of those gowns suffer from Unfortunate Ruffle Placement Syndrome.

  • boweryboy

50% of this is fun, but mostly because I’m a sucker for anything – anything – that is ’60s mod.

It’s the when it gets to the weird day-glo evening gowns that things become a head scratcher for me.

    • demidaemon

I kind of liked those, but I’ve been a sucker for neon since I was about eight. Those were my favorite crayons in the box.

  • sagecreek

Wow, love all those strong solid colors!

  • conniemd

I’m hoping we get to see some stars rocking the red carpet with these lady suits. Fantastic.

  • Trickytrisha

This is kinda like getting to go to a circus and an opera on the same day. Two very different experiences, but tons of fun and intellectually stimulating at the same time. Lots of gorgeousness going on here. Bravo, Mr. Lauren (and minions).

    • alyce1213

      Love your analogy.

      • Trickytrisha

        Thank you.

  • Lilak

First scroll-through, I was too transfixed by all the square jaws and horsey-set, side-parted, pin-straight hair to see the clothing . . .
(Second time through, I check-marked most of the jacketed stuff and left the rest of my scorecard blank.)

  • sleepycat

Yes please. Love the colors, especially the orange. The black gown is stunning. A+

  • Mon dieu, je l’adore! Those ladysuits are the cat’s meow, and the white angel-sleeve jumpsuit is fucking fabulosity incarnate.

    • kimmeister

JLo has already preordered that white one.

    • Ellen De Generes should call this man at once. She needs to wear clothes that are made for a woman’s body. Too bad she won’t do dresses, ’cause she has a great figure and some of these would look so good on her.

      • I could see Portia de Rossi killing in a lot of it, too.

  • lorepottter

I loveeee the green coat, and that last red dress has JLaw all over it!

  • Glam Dixie

He lost me on the primary colored gowns but the rest was fun and to quote Heidi, I would wear that.

    • MaggieMae

That’s where the needle scratched for me, too. I was hoping the bold colors would involve some patterns too.

  • kmk05

ALL OF IT!!! Love love love all the pantsuits and jackets.

If I were to ever marry, I would want to be in that three-piece white suit on my wedding day.

  • Guest

Jennifer Anderson could rock everyone of these!

  • queen b*tch

Jennifer Aniston could rock every single one of these looks…

    • altissima

      Yes! Perfect.

    • altissima

And it would be great if she updated her hairstyle to match too!

  • oklund

“Cartooney” is the first thing that comes to mind… not sure if that’s good.

  • jif

Unoriginal, uninspired, bland, incoherent. The daywear is entirely unrelated to the eveningwear, and both are totally derivative.

  • EKW2

  • alyce1213

Stunning. I was thoroughly enjoying the black & whites, the striking prints and flattering shapes, then — BAM! He’s not kidding around with those colors, is he? I love it all. Love it.

  • Donna Tabor

More the 70’s than the 60’s, I think. I made a three-piece tattersall suit almost identical to the one above in about 1977. It was au courant then.

  • Erica_Vuitton

LOVE the 3/4 sleeve mini dresses but hate hate hate the knee socks. Yuck. I love the bright colors but those neon mini skirt suits scream Cher & Dion circa 1995.

  • I love the colors and the fabrics.

  • crash1212

Black and white at its best, then he hits you with the COLOR. BAM! I love this collection. Guess I can bust out all the ties I saved!

  • Adelaidey

Can’t wait to see Janelle Monae rocking some of these looks.

    • decormaven

Absolutely. That black and white suit needs to be on her, ASAP.

  • H2olovngrl

My absolute favorite. What a chic collection, and what a highly professional showing.

  • marlie

I really like this! I love the gowns AND the separates. And I might just end up breaking the bank in order to buy all the coats.

  • Cathy S

    I want ALL the coats.

  • Imasewsure

Don’t love most of the gowns but love all of the separates and short dresses. Fun styling too.

  • decormaven

The oversized patterned fabric handbag- gimme!

  • kimmeister

Those might be the widest ties I’ve ever seen.

The only piece that was a no for me was the fluorescent green gown.

  • frannyprof

    Something for everyone. Love it.

  • lilazander

Take the all-whites out or colour them, and I love every single outfit.

  • Tanya Wade

I am seeing Ringo Starr in the 70s. And I love it.

  • oohsparkley!

Love the chic black and white. A few of the gowns look cheap and awkward.

  • Linda LaPaz

Must. Have. Black & White. Plaid. Trench. Coat.

I would wear every one of those in a minute. Love the pops of color after the gorgeous black and whites.

  • MissAmynae

Give half of these pieces to Hailee Steinfeld. She would rock the spit out of them.

  • demidaemon

I loved his use of neon here and how he gave the viewer a palette cleanser of white afterwards. Very smart. That last gown is fabulous!

  • quiltrx

LOVE the black/white prints!! I’m also really liking the saturated solids. I would have liked to see some combos of the two!
And I will never not love a cape-dress…

    • Anplica Fiore

And that cape dress is to DIE for!! LOVE

  • I love the back, white, and black and white. That’s the way to put together a black and white show. I don’t care for the bright colors. What a beautiful show.

  • jmorino08

Models that aren’t styled to look like they’re on a death march? What was Ralph thinking?

  • Katrin

    One of each please!
