Pairs Division: Keira Knightley and Adam Levine

Posted on September 09, 2013

What a random pairing. But IMDB and various press releases assure us that they really did make a movie together, so we are duty-bound to judge them.

Keira Knightley and Adam Levine attends the premiere of “Can A Song Save Your Life” at the Toronto International Film Festival. Keira Knightley is wearing a Mary Katrantzou dress paired with Christian Louboutin shoes.

Apparently they were asked to do a line dance or something.

SHE: Nailed it once again. Another gorgeous “landscape” dress from Mary Katrantzou. And to those who constantly seem puzzled by our resistance to silly putty shoes, here would be the exact right time to deploy them, since the dress can get overwhelming if you over-style it. About the only thing we don’t love here is the hair, with the two little tendrils coming down on either side of her face. We know it’s seen as somehow romantic in an old-fashioned way, but whenever we see hair like this, the first phrase that pops into our head is “she’s come undone.” Still, she’s gorge. Score: 9.75/10.

HE: Is possibly a little douchey and definitely should have shaved for the occasion, but we can’t deny he’s rocking the look. The suit is beautiful. And perfectly fitted. It’s actually kind of refreshing to see a slim guy in a regular-cut suit instead of a super-fitted one. Granted, he could’ve rocked the super-fitted suit, but he’s clearly going for grownup respectability here (neckbeard notwithstanding). We might’ve recommended a slightly showier tie to keep this from looking too business-like. Score: 8.75/10. Trim that neck, son.

Combined Score: 9.25. Excellent.

Her dress is gorgeous, but the lavender eye shadow is a bit much.

  • Aidan B

Wow. I’m highly impressed. While I can smell his douche-cologne from here I can’t deny this is the best I’ve ever seen Adam look. Keira is perfection in that MK dress. I love that she consistently wears her.

    • demidaemon

Maybe so, but I do so love his interactions with Blake Shelton on The Voice. That show turned me from the viewpoint of “douche central but hot” to “hot and adorable.” I’m easy, what can I say.

      • fursa_saida

I still think he’s a douche but that Blake brings out the best in him. Or maybe it’s a mutual thing, since I’ve seen some not-so-great things about Blake. Either way, I agree that I love them together and their silly-fun relationship, though apart I have a hard time caring about either.

    • He’s wearing a belt! That, plus the fact that I think he’s hot (douchebag or not), makes me love him.

  • Anathema_Device

Agreed on all points, T Lo. Having the silly putty shoes in suede or or whatever those are, really helps. Those super shiny ones really bug me.

I love her makeup. She looks natural but polished.

    • makeityourself

He is wearing at least as much makeup as she.

    • Leah Elzinga

I like the extra hit of texture the suede provides as well.

  • Cz

She is in a hair rut. He is in a douche rut. But, love the clothes, ruts notwithstanding.

  • Barbara Affolter

Does she look a little more muscular than usual? Not that she’s looking even remotely Serena Williams or anything, but her arms & shoulders look a little more athletic than her typical teeny.

    • YoungSally

That’s exactly what I was thinking….when I saw the psychotherapy movie (whatever it was called) — she was alarmingly thin.

      • fursa_saida

A Dangerous Method. (Which I loved, fwiw.)

  • largishbearishAtlish

one bracelet maybe on her? one smidgeon of something? I know it would be too matchy-matchy, but a rich royal purple suit on him? to pick up on the wonderful beautiful colors of that great dress?

  • Scimommy

Huh. They’re *both* on my irrational hate list. This hardly ever happens as my IHL is pretty small. In fact, it might be just these two.

    • flamingoNW

I feel pretty much the same. Guarantees I will not ever watch this movie.

      • Scimommy

I know, doesn’t that make the decision easy?

(Just remembered two more people on my IHL: Natalie Portman and Olivia Wilde.)

        • I guess I feel the same way about Natalie. I think this happens when we get saturated by a celeb and all their appearances. I think Olivia is stunning. I never would have imagined the attention her face would receive when I saw her on the O.C. She was barely noticeable.

    • I love that term IHL. Mine is Pitt and Jolie. They’re worshipped enough that I don’t think I’ll hurt their feelings, writing into this blog from my home in California; lol. Adam Levine is untouchable. He lives a charmed life. He seems so nice on The Voice but then I only see him only with super models and I think he’s probably a real picky guy.

This dress does zero for Keira. I don’t know why she’s scored so highly.

My other IHL is Kate Hudson. I’m even back to liking Anne Hathaway. I got to like her because so many other people didn’t like her; lol.

  • marlie

She looks positively gorgeous (disclaimer: she’s on my “Celebrity LOVE List”). He usually comes across as a douche, but I appreciate that he’s dressing the part here, and a lot of that includes covering up all of the tats. I wish he would have cleaned up the facial hair a bit, but he’s doing a great job too.

    • ashtangajunkie

She’s on my Celebrity LOVE List as well. I just adore her.

      • TropiCarla

        ME TOO!

I might be a bridge too far though … named my daughter after her last year.

  • They are too adorable together. Who knew? She is perfection, and I like the romantic tendrils here. He is totally douchey and yet I love him on The Voice. I don’t mind his scruff, he is a musician after all, but no one likes a neck beard.

    • demidaemon

I love him on The Voice too!

    • kathrineb

Who is he? Is he the maroon 5 guy? I am not a fan.

  • Clueless_Jock

Beautiful dress. I love that silhouette on her.

  • MilaXX

Like her look, hate her hair.
Like his look, but the jacket looks a skoosh too long to me. I would stil give him an 8/10 though

  • quiltrx

She’s on my totally-rational hate list–but I sure do love this dress and have to admit it’s great on her.
He without a doubt smells like vinegar and water, but there’s that little voice in my head that says “c’mon, you know he’s sexy.” Plus I really, really like his singing voice.

    • demidaemon

It is the rare man who can rock a falsetto/high voice like he can. And it just makes him sexier, in my opinion. If he could get over his serial model-dating, he would be near-perfect.

      • Hey, that’s the thing that bothers me about Adam as well. He seems so accepting and kind on The Voice, but he’d never date any of those women; lol.

His voice and his looks don’t go together at all. He has the look and personality of a serious artiste, but his music is kinda “pop-ish.” Maybe it is the falsetto voice.

      • Jessica Freeman

He’s actually engaged to a model, for now.

  • nannypoo

Separately they both look good, but they should never pose together. They look like they’re making fun of their firing squad.

  • kimmeister

He’s on my rational love list. I never thought he was particularly hot until I saw him perform live. Suddenly, my clothes melted off my body.

  • Dan_In_NYC

I’m not used to seeing a normal cut suit on the RC. So much more common is the slightly too tight “look at my pecs/gun” version. All that said, I would still prefer a trimmer cut on Adam.

  • They look great together! She is one of the only stars who can pull off an extreme print, a dress like that, AND nude heels. Brava.

  • CatherineRhodes

    Two words: neck beard. Ugh.

  • Trisha26

One of my irrational hates (her) paired with a neck beard (not her) – yay!

  • ballerinawithagun

Are they wearing the same shade of lipstick?

    • Introspective

you won. cause pics 2, 3, 5 & 6 suggest that they are.

that said the katrantzou is gorge.

  • Pterodactyl111

    Adam Levine is acting now?

    • demidaemon

I believe he was also in American Horror Story this year. The movie is news to me, though.

  • majorbedhead

I kind of hate myself for finding Adam Levine so freakin’ hot, but I can’t help it. He makes my bits tingle.

  • Jacquelyn

    Must. Have. Dress.

  • Trickytrisha

She’s just delicious here. That dress… oh my. And the shoes are a few dozen notches above the usual silly putty types, especially from the side. Lovely look for her all around.

He’s hunky dory, with an emphasis on hunky. Don’t mind the lack of shaving so much, but find his hair cut a tad too short around the ears… nearly sidewall territory.

  • jilly_d

    *stands, applauding*

  • flamingoNW

I would have taken more off for her pathetic hair (I pray that nobody got paid to actually “style” that), but otherwise yeah, she looks pretty

  • clairellis

That’s the most points I’ve ever seen you give. And he would look better naked.

  • Sandra Oh

The use of the word “douche” is just so lazy. I expect you guys to be much more clever.

    • conniemd

Yeah. There is nothing douchey about Adam Levine based upon his demeanor in “The Voice.” He appears to be humorous, compassionate, competitive and at times even sweet and sappy. He’s also way hawt to boot.

      • demidaemon

I think his attitude in pictures, his tats, and his serial model-dating may contribute to the image. However, watch him on The Voice and you see him for his personality and skills as a musician and coach. Not everyone is into singing competitions, though; the recent flood of the TV market isn’t helping any.

    • Yes, you’ve told us this many times before. We expect you to be not quite so drearily repetitive.

  • alyce1213

I love that dress, the print and colors are so pretty. I’m not usually a fan of colored eyeshadow, but the lavender is perfect with this dress. The shoes are not that awful putty/fleshy color — they’re a little lighter, suede and not big hooves, so okay.
His suit is gorgeous, but the neck beard makes me itch.

  • broke&fashionable

Neck beards gross me out – even on you Adam. I love love the rest though, even the tie. I tend not to talk like this – but he looks delicious.

  • ashtangajunkie

I love her, in this dress, in any other dress. Always have. He looks great – i can never decide what I really think of him, but he looks handsome and smiley here.

  • demidaemon

I prefer my Adam Levine shaven, but not stirred. Clean up the face, Adam.

  • Haley Buchanan

That is one of the most gorgeous dresses I’ve seen in a long time. And, not only can the lovely and slender Keira rock it, but I bet a lot of us mere mortals would look great in it as well (if we could only afford it). Well done, Mary Katrantzou!

  • roadkill

I hate shiny suits with a passion but Levines is just bright enough to be showy without looking cheap or desperate

  • Zaftiguana

The dress is gaw-jus and I want to love it on her, but…am I the only one seeing a really bizarre fit in the bust that’s making her chest look concave? It’s kind of freaking me out.

  • Kt

I heart Keira for not getting sucked into the Hollywood standard of boobs. Such an inspiration for me who can’t fill out an A cup!

  • Cheryl

After seeing a few of these TIFF photos, I’m wondering whether the photographers have been asking people to do something, anything different than the usual poses? There have been a few strange ones, like someone pretending to know martial arts when they don’t, or ‘look I have an imaginary dog’ or in this case, ‘I’m going to teach you how to make bread Adam, but we won’t use real ingredients until you shave your neck’. Love Keira’s dress, I don’t mind the side tendrils because they are messy, if they were perfect little corkscrews it would be icky.

  • Alloy Jane

Boy do I hate that dude’s hair. Her? Beautiful as usual. Agree about her hair. It’s one thing if a strand falls out, but it’s another to pretend there are strands falling out. That kinda thing annoys me quite a bit.

  • WittyCism

Have always been a fan of his, and more so after watching him live. Didn’t let the crowd down; didn’t even go on break when the rest of the band did!

  • Jessica Freeman

I really love the dress, but it needed just a touch in the accessory department. Necklace, dangle earrings, belt…something…

  • MartyBellerMask

I just can’t stand him at all so that will cloud my judgement. I have no opinion on Keira but I adore that dress. She looks good. Despite the hair.

    • AnnPopovic

Yeah, I’ll hop on that bandwagon. Bleh. He could be wearing pure spun gold made by god himself and I’d still want to wash my hands after looking at him.

  • Erica_Vuitton

YES my first thought too was PERFECT deployment of the nude shoe, she looks beautiful (I like the hair)! Adam looks so adorably confused like “Ah, excuse me, I do three looks. Broody, naked or broody & naked. What is this goofy hand clapping dancing and smiling shit?”

  • Granny panties

    I think she looks fantastic!

  • JP

Given all the “room for the holy spirit” between them, I bet she’s trying not to catch his douche germs.

  • Sara Brams-Miller

She is reminding me of Winona Ryder here. . . .

  • Janet B

They look as if they are attending the same event!
Loving the fabric of her dress.
I don’t love her hair or his neck, but otherwise well done.

  • MarissaLG

    Very pretty- both of them.

  • Tom Markiewicz

I definitely would give this 10/10. I think everything’s perfect

  • Diego!

Her dress is AMAZING! And so is his suit!!! I hate her shoes tough, but they look great!

  • kathrineb

love her dress it’s a great look on her!
