Nicole Miller Spring 2014 Collection

Posted on September 07, 2013

Taking our seats, we had a bare-bones understanding of the theme for this collection; something about Versailles. As the romantic-with-an-edge looks came out, one after another, we nodded approvingly at the princess/punk vibe and murmured “it’s that whole broken chandelier thing.” Later, we read the show notes:

the gardens of Versailles

& storming the castle

Now, we’d love to say that we’re oh-so prescient and tuned-in that we sussed out the exact imagery she was evoking, but the fact of it is, she was evoking it so purely and cohesively that it was hard to miss. We’re loving the mix of prints, the range of textures, the high level of wearability and adaptability to the pieces, and above all, the romantic/rock & roll vibe; the pure attitude of it all.

Love her, love this collection even more than usual, DESPERATELY WANT that black-and-silver spangly jacket.

  • hughman

    “Ripped jeans?”
    “Do you like them?”
“I like them if they’re Miller. They are Nicole Miller, aren’t they sweetie?”

  • a_liking

ooh, I love this. that floral trench is TO DIE FOR, please give it to me immediately

    • Carleenml

I was going to post the same. It’s exquisite.

  • marlie

I really like this collection. Beautiful colors and prints, and plenty of really wearable pieces.

  • MilaXX

I really like this collection. I kept picking a favorite only to see another I like. Love the white skirt, love the white broken glass dress with the stripe bottom, love the gauzy beige top with flowery skirt. I could go on and on.

  • sleepycat

Love this collection. I don’t want to be a bitch, but I swear you guys posted some of the same pictures twice. But you are tired, so you have an excuse. 😛

  • seems a bit 1985-ish, in the best way.

  • prismamars

    Gorgeous collection!

  • ankali

I would wear almost all of this. Masterful mixing of prints, especially the florals with the black-and-white stripes.

  • unbornfawn

    Cohesive indeed. Some fantatic pieces.

  • Lilyana_F

Love! Gorgeous prints, textures and shapes.

  • Daniela

Absolutely love this collection. Found something I loved in nearly every photo

  • Carl Boyd

Is it me, or did Nicole Miller really step up her game after that episode of All On the Line with Joe Zee? This stuff is amaze.

    • ballerinawithagun

Exactly what I was thinking, Nicole has her mojo back!

    • rh33

Exactly what I was thinking, too!

  • Kate

    One of everything, please

  • Pennymac

So wonderful! I’m usually not a fan of prints, but I like almost every piece!

  • Jessica Freeman

First time in a long time I’ve liked just about everything in the show. Brava.

  • ChaCha_70

Knocked it out of the park. This is an amazing collection and so wearable. I love every single piece. Well done, Nicole!

  • Erica_Vuitton

I’ll take one pair of each of the shoes, size 7 thanks!!!!!!!

  • Pril Wood

    This collection is GORGEOUS

  • Constant Reader

  • Jacquelyn

I wold like one of everything, please.

This is my favorite collection of NYFW TLo have posted thus far. GORGEOUS.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE the black and white two piece with the stained glass window effect.

  • Elena

LOVE the first half of the collection. The latter half is kind of goes “clunk” for me. But still, would wear all the pieces in the first half.

  • Darva Sutra

Will need to acquire some of these pieces, even if I’ve got to break the bank for them. Stunning, she’s definitely got her mojo back. The best and most wearable Spring 2014 show I’ve seen so far. I credit some of this to Joe Zee’s tutalge; she was on his design show last year and he really found a way to bring her back to her creative center.

  • RoseJB

So much pretty! I love the stained glass and mosaic looks! Oooh, and the mix of stripes and florals.

  • valerie saenz

    Breathtaking. Really.

  • Aidan B

Oh my God I would wear so much of this. I especially love the stripes mixed with the acid-tastic florals.

  • This girl is a bad ass.

  • Julie Chase

WOW. I love pretty much all of this.

  • HobbitGirl

I like some of the simpler, more Art-Deco-ish pieces, but a lot of this seems…tacky. Must be just me.

  • whirligig7

Gorgeous I want it ALL. My favorite is the knee length black leather skirt with the silver slinky racerback top.

  • mhleta

I don’t get the Versailles connection at all. I get more of a Storming the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Brussels and shattering the stained glass windows, or maybe storming the Chrysler building, but that’s hardly poetic, is it? Whatever. This is collection genius and I could look at it all day and night. It must have been something spectacular to behold in person. Lucky bastards.

  • Stella Zawistowski

HOT DAMN, I am craving those pants with the silver embroidery going up the legs.

  • fiddlecub

Between this and the Siriano collection, I feel like I’ve seen both sides of the same beautiful coin. I adore this. How I envy those that get to wear such art.

  • this is going in my bookmark folder of stuff I look at when I need the pretty

  • PastryGoddess

This collection is great. Also, I could totally see Hailee Steinfeld or Chloe Moretz rocking some of these looks.

  • quiltrx

Love this collection! I particularly like the not-matchy-match feel of the looks–tops and bottoms you wouldn’t say ‘go together’ look great paired here.
Since I finally bit the bullet and joined Pinterest, a lot of things fall into pinworthy/not pinworthy (like Seinfeld’s Elaine and ‘sponge worthy’). LOTS of pins coming out of this post!

  • Jennica Brocious

Is it just my computer or are some of the dresses posted more than once starting at picture 12, I believe it repeats on picture 21…if I counted correctly.
    Great collection

    • SewingSiren

Yes there are a few repeats.

  • SewingSiren

There are a lot of very similar looks. But I would wear about 9/10th of them. And I absolutely love the hair.

  • Kate4queen

I like this a lot but I always find with her clothes that when I try them on (I’m hour glass size 8) they don’t fit my shape at all.

  • Tanya Wade

I love this collection. Hard and soft, stained glass, pattern mixing, dark raisin lip. Perfection.

  • formerlyAnon

This is clothing I can imagine being a young woman the models’ age and wanting desperately. Lovely, so many reasons to envy the extremely well-to-do.

  • spooki C

I see so many things that I want and now I’m depressed because my broke ass can not afford it.

    • Sunraya

I quilt, but this collection makes me want to learn to make clothes!

  • ItsDicey

She had me at the first four looks alone. I adore edgy pretty.

  • VioletFem

I love this collection. It is feminine with an edge. I want every piece!

  • Imasewsure

Wow I love so much of this. I need to change my life to make it possible to wear this stuff… current life doesn’t support this kind of dress up (even when I dress up!). Love all of the shoes too

  • Sara__B

Be sure to watch a video of the runway show. Everything looks even better in motion, and the fabrics are so lovely.

  • queen b*tch

I have never wanted an entire collection before! But this one hits the spot every time!

  • Sara Brams-Miller

I pretty much want every piece in this collection. Every. Single. One.

    • sagecreek

Me, too! Well, except for the skirts with the horizontal black stripes. The gods did not bless me with the body to carry off horizontal black stripes 🙁

  • Cousin_Rose

After going through these looks, I had to run to my closet to see what I have that could be styled like any of them. I know I can’t afford to buy them but they are relateable enough that I can dream! Most of the runway shows just leave me shaking my head at how ugly they make the models look.

  • I think you guys are geniuses. There is no way I would have picked Versailles shattered chandeliers from this! I see very pretty, I see old-school kaleidoscope but I don’t see the influences the way you do.

  • shelbywoo

I NEED the pencil skirts! I live for a designer not afraid of hips!

  • jmorino08

Wow! Simply stunning all the way through!

  • Bree The Vole

Finally, a collection that is actually beautiful!

Gotta randomly comment thought, it’s amazing how much fashion and models can change in decades. Could you imagine Tyra Banks modeling any of these clothes? Yet from what I’ve seen of 90s fashion runway, Tyra was a regular for Miller’s shows.

Not saying this as a slight to either, just observing. Time, like, changes. Who would have thought?

  • I didn’t like the first few looks – that chintz jacket and skirt and that turquoise eighties bed-sheet pattern were making me wonder but…it got better as I scrolled. So much better. By the last 10-12 looks I was quite enamored.

  • AnneElliot

Gorgeous, edgy and detailed but not overwrought like the Leger collection. But what’s with the green hair on that model?

  • decormaven

The strapless outfit with the turquoise strappy heels – LOVE! Can’t wait to see which celeb snaps it up.

  • myuniverse4me

    I don’t get the theme of it..Dolce & Gabanna?

  • conniemd

OMG I really love this collection. The combination of flowers and rocker stripes and all is just beautiful and different and wearable and fantastic.

  • kimmeister

I feel like I’ve seen look #5 on the clearance rack at JCPenney . . . months ago.

  • Sunraya

I adore the fabrics in this collection! I want some of these!

  • LesYeuxHiboux

This is so cool. So much to love: the dresses in the first half, the pants and jackets in the second. The pants and jacket with the mirrored geometric detail (not together), and the first dress are particular favorites. I’d wear the floral trench until it fell apart.

Project for the day: get rich.

  • KateK

Ahhh. Now that’s more like it! Life, color, pattern, but it’s restrained. I wonder if some of those other designers are embarrassed now after sending hospital gowns and shapeless sacks down the runway. Nicole Miller just moded them.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

I was gasping out loud at some of these pieces. Way to knock it out of the park, Nicole! Wonderful collection.

  • wontons

Pretty pretty. Almost makes me wish I were young and rich. Or any age and rich.

  • Laura Renee

    A+ collection

  • guest2visits

I don’t know broken chandelier from broken light bulb… but this is lovely!
