Michelle Dockery and Freida Pinto at Miu Miu Women’s Tales Talks Photocall

Posted on September 03, 2013

These two, when they’re styled correctly (which is by no means a given), do the ladylike thing so well that it’s kind of a treat to see them side by side like this.

Michelle Dockery and Freida Pinto attend the Miu Miu Women’s Tales Talks photocall at the Excelsior Hotel in Venice in head-to-toe Miu Miu.

We’re not even going to bother giving them scores because they both nailed it. Michelle in particular needs to stick with this brand because it’s the second Miu Miu in a row that turned her into a knockout. She could still stand to play around a little more with her hair and makeup, but this is definitely her style going forward. Or it should be, anyway. Freida’s shoes are a little boring and her shades, while fabulous, don’t really go with the dress. This is the second time Miu Miu shoved shades onto a starlet with little regard for how well it went with the outfit. Kind of disappointing, really. These two are so well-styled otherwise and then you have the “DON’T FORGET TO BUY OUR SUNGLASSES” kind of product-placement styling topping it off. Still, Michelle’s shades are perfect, so we should probably stop bitching.

Not getting the pink dress love. Its a trifle snug on her, and I’m not buying the exterior darts.

      • Sarah

And it’s wrinkly. And possessed of an errant spot of dye in the whit bib part that looks like someone has been eating sloppily. No likey.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I hadn’t noticed the spot on the front of the white bib. It does look like a bit of strawberry jam got hastily wiped away.

        • kimmeister

I already didn’t like the “faux dickey” effect of the dye as it stands, but that stray spot just takes me over the edge!

        • Renaissance_Man_ATL

I think it’s linen. That would explain the wrinkles.

      • kimmeister

The exterior darts looks like arrows. “Abs are here.”

      • Sara Brams-Miller

Dress isn’t snug. Just super wrinkly. Agreed on the darts. Ick.

      • Aurumgirl

I know. It’s like Miu Miu is now imitating Stella McCartney. That should never happen.

    • Allie Carter

Nothing says ladylike like a visible bra!

      • Julie Ree

At least she’s wearing a bra!

      • Judy_S

        I’m sure it’s a Miu Miu bra.

        • demidaemon

You know, I went back and forth on this point, but I think it works here because, otherwise, she is pretty covered up. If the shirt was sleeveless or tank top in shape, I would probably have more problems with the visible bra.

Plus I like the image of “I’m a lady….most of the time.”

    • Jennifer

I don’t know, the pink dress kind of screams jumper to me. And the tie/dye effect isn’t helping on the juvenile front.

…But maybe I’m just jealous of her shades.

    • Shawn EH

Stop trying to make those shades happen, Miu Miu!

      • kimmeister

But feel free to send me the pair that Michelle is sporting, they’re amazing!

        • Shawn EH

She looks as hot as I’ve ever seen her, sheer blouse and all!

    • gabbilevy

Sorry boys, going to have to disagree entirely. Freida’s dress is doing nothing for me, and while I think Michelle look fantastic from the waist up, that skirt and that top do NOT work for me. Her sunnies are all kinds of fierce, though.

      • Tatiana Luján

Michelle’s top doesn’t work for me paired with that skirt.

        • Little_Olive

Indeed it doesn’t. And I say this after a long while of staring at it in order to make out the shapes and boundaries of each item.

      • Louise Bryan

Thank you. I really don’t like that skirt even a little. The gather up and pull down just looks weird.

    • formerlyAnon

      Like both, love neither.

    • Jessica Freeman

Is it opposite day today? Because TLo finds this fantastic and I think they could possibly not look much worse. I has a sad.

    • Karen Belgrad

Michelle’s is the definition of a sunshine-fug… The sun coming through her shirt makes me think she raided Bridget Jones’s closet!

    • flamingoNW

I like Freida’s outfit including the shoes, but don’t care much for Michelle’s outfit at all. The sunglasses are just silly though.

    • SephSki

Michelle Dockery is GORGEOUS, but the proportions on that outfit are all wrong for her. It looks like she’s trying to both sink her torso down and pull her legs up into that skirt.

    • marlie

I’m not a fan of Frieda’s dress, but Michelle looks lovely. There are so many things about her outfit that I shouldn’t like, yet, it works for her.

    • Glam Dixie

Michelle’s hair and makeup look lovely, I also covet her shades, the rest, I dislike. I dislike it a lot, actually.

    • Sara__B

Bless their hearts. At least their hair and makeup (and Michelle’s sunglasses) are lovely.

    • Imasewsure

I’m definitely not loving this brand but I do think MD should never stray…. hopefully some color in the future though.

    • Spicytomato1

I think they both look fresh and pretty. And their shades are unique and eye-catching. Lovely!

    • MilaXX

I like Michelle’s outfit, but I’m not sold on the sheer blouse, otherwise great look for her. I like Frieda’s look except for the shades.

    • majorbedhead

Black and navy makes my eyes twitch. I blame years of Catholic school uniforms.

    • neonseattle

mm i’m not loving this look on Michelle at all. so dark and boring and the proportions are weird. freida looks lovely in pink

    • sagecreek

I’m just not sure about the juxtaposition of the prim white collar with the tie dye bodice border, but I’m still talking about it, so I guess that’s the point.

    • MaggieMae

I think Lady Mary would less prissy and more modern in funkier shoes.

    • Qitkat

I do hope when (if?) I get to heaven, I can look exactly like Michelle here. Sunglasses, hair, lips and eyebrows, English rose complexion, height, bag, dress, shoes, ring. So lovely!

    • filmcricket

The only part of Freida’s outfit I like are the shades, although I agree they don’t work with that dress. The best pairing for that dress is gasoline and a lit match. Although that pink is great on her.

      Michelle looks lovely.

      • demidaemon

Lately, I haven’t really seen in her anything that makes me go “Wow. That’s perfect for her.”

Though this dress is particularly horrendous, and I’m beginning to believe large exterior darts are just a big no-no.

    • jilly_d

Michelle is serving up Dita realness in those shades.

    • Terry

In that first photo, Michelle’s looks like her head belongs on a different body than her legs and hands. They’re very different colors.

    • Trisha26

Love the tie-dye treatement on Freida’s dress but hate those exposed darts and all the wrinkles. It looks cheap and juvenile.

      • decormaven

Yes, that dress looks like it’s been crumpled in the bag, hastily pressed and pushed out into the venue.

    • JauntyJohn

      So lovely.
The lines are very flattering for both of them, but what I think I like most is that each outfit has a “look twice” moment after your first glance.

    • Chuck Barthelme

Michelle is finally looking like the star she is. Good for her.

    • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

Third photo down is a total knockout. A lady-like ball of ferocity.

    • Little_Olive

It’s like Michelle is Frieda’s (adoptive) mother and she is picking her up from kindergarten.

Oh and Michelle, dear, look into blush.

      • Alloy Jane

Now now, Michelle can totally be her biological mother. My Mom is very fair-skinned and Euro looking and Sister #3 looks like she trotted off the mountains on a donkey.

And I agree that the pink dress is very romper room. I still kinda love it, but I am a fan of the absurd…

    • understateddiva

THAT is a properly deployed nude shoe, Ms. Pinto! Love the lower square heel, and lack of platform. It truly does make her legs look longer (instead of making her look as if she has hooves, as the “silly putty shoes” TLo hate do) With that skirt length, they are just right!

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

I am just SO happy with Michelle’s makeover I can barely stand it.

    • akprincess72

So now Michelle has my hair (style & color), I think I should get those shades to be fair. =)

    • pookiesmom

Freida is SO GORGEOUS I can’t stand it.

    • Jacquelyn

Michelle looks AMAZING. I hope this is a permanent change for her!

    • kathrineb

Well at least Freida is having some fun with her outfit, Michelle looks drab and serious I already miss that amazing bright mod look!

    • http://victoriapavlova.com Victoria Pavlova

Lady Mary’s sunglasses are awesome on her.
