Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard at the Estée Lauder Modern Muse Party

Posted on September 13, 2013

By aall rights, we reaally should haate both these looks, but somehow, we just caan’t bring ourselves to work up the bile this time.

Maaybe it’s becaause they both look like the chicest couple aat the key paarty. They’re serving ’70s swinging reaalness.

Maaggie Gyllenhaal aand Peter Sarsgaard aattend the Estée Laauder “Modern Muse” Fraagraance Laaunch Paarty aat the Guggenheim Museum in New York City.

Of course, no one in the seventies wore heels like hers and no guys wore suits thaat taailored. But reaally, this is the best they’ve both looked in … well, we don’t know. Forever, maaybe? Sure, she still haas aa somewhaat troubled relaationship with the ideaa of weaaring aa braa, but this groovy dress of hers works perfectly for her looks aand her style. Aand we kindaa love him for haaving the nerve to pull off aa  print shirt like that. Smaarmy? Maaybe. But we’ve gottaa saay, they maake it work for them. Style’s aalwaays aabout first knowing who you aare aand whaat works best for you. We’d saay they naailed it.

If we haave to score them, then we’d give them aa 9/10. He could’ve staarched thaat collaar and she could’ve used less severe shoes. If it waas aa letter graade, we’d raate them aan AA-.

If this was on anybody else, it would smack of attention-seeking. On them, it looks like it belongs. That, I think, is fashion. Love it.

  • Introspective

I see whaat you did there.

maggie’s dress does look good on her. even if it feels a bit dated/frumpy. cause dated/frumpy is so in her wheelhouse.

    • mshesterp

I feel dumb–it took me a while to figure it out (ok…about 1 minute), but I chalk it up to the fact I didn’t realize they both have double A’s in their names.

Slow clap to me for finally getting TLo’s humor. *clap* aa *clap*

      • DTLAFamilies

Pass the dunce cap to me. I didn’t get it until I read your post.

        • demidaemon

Same here. I thought TLO was still exhausted from FW and leaned a little too hard on the “a” key.

  • PastryGoddess

Dear Maaggie. A braa is aa wonderful thing

    Those shoes aare faab

Why did your husbaand maatch his shirt to your dress?

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

This woman loves her tits, and she boldly stares you in the eye, daring you to not do the same. Bless.

The shoes are so anti thrift, I love the playfulness.

      Because he’s fucking awesome.

      • mshesterp

She’s owning those boobs and I love her for it. Go on with your unsupported self, Mags.

        • fursa_saida

          Samesies.

    • MilaXX

      lol

    • akprincess72

      This.

  • susan6

Once you’ve had a couple kids, see-through tops are no longer your friend. You need to hoist the girls.

    • mshesterp

Actually, they didn’t look all that different back when she was in “Secretary.” I think those are just her boobs.

  • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

They waant us to speculaate on their sex life, don’t they?

    • formerlyAnon

      I vote yes.
ETA: damn, missed the chance. Should have said “Aaye.”

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

They do. And I think it may be faabulous.

      • MartyBellerMask

        I aagree. ;)

  • formerlyAnon

I like this on them mostly because they look like they belong together. And that ridiculously adorable shared smile/laugh in the last photo is genius if it’s acting and the sexiest thing I’ve seen all day if it’s real.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

      I am loving the maatchiness.

  • DaveUWSNYC

Call me a boob, but I just caan’t figure out what is the dress and what is the breast…or where, even.

    • MartyBellerMask

I know, right? I almost thought I saw a bra strap, but … it was the dress. LOL

    • sojourneryouth

I think the dress doesn’t know what it wants to be when it grows up. The fact that the front is open between the buttons and its overall sheerness makes bra-wearing hard, but if it’s supposed to be sexxxy, why is it basically a sister-wife muumuu from 1973?

  • RedRaven617

What is with the fabric of his suit? Are those rain drops? Or in the fabric?

    • Bridget Smith

Pretty sure they’re raindrops – there was a MASSIVE thunderstorm in New York last night, and it looked like a few other celebrities got rained on, too.

      • joything

I also wondered if he had gone commando. There seems to be a lot of shadow detail Down There.

        • Bridget Smith

I guess they don’t do half-measures when coordinating.

  • TerryMH

    70′s key party~nailed it!

  • MsOlympia

    I’m aashaamed to saay I don’t get it. :(

    • http://weirdinedgewise.blogspot.com ONEWEIRDWORD

Gyllenhaal, Sarsgaard. And maybe her compact AA tatas?

  • ShaoLinKitten

Whaat is with Maaggie’s chronic laack of braa? Yaank those baabies up!

  • Jacquelyn

I’ll haate it enough for you TLo. Caause wow. No.

  • Shawn EH

    They’re aadoraable together.

  • Danielle

I waant to hike her boobs up.

  • MilaXX

I’d give them both 8′s. This is a good look from her, but her itty bitties desperately need a bra. Overall it’s a polished look that feels like a dressy version of her typical stay at home mom chic.

  • disqussant

I think she looks good though I’m iffy about those shoes with this dress.

All the comments about her “needing” to put on a bra (or hoist, yank, or otherwise treat her breasts like they’re cargo instead of y’know, parts of her body) are rude and ignorant. There is nothing wrong with a woman’s body in its natural state.

Why are breasts treated differently than other body parts? I doubt the people calling for Maggie to put on a bra would turn around and tell a woman with a less-than-tiny waist to put on a corset.

    • omg_dora

Personally, I’d settle for anything that covers her nipples.

      • RebeccaKW

With you on that. She could have put those sticky petals on and it’s fine.

    • Denise Alden

Why draw the line on bras? There’s nothing “natural” about her look: dress, shoes, makeup. I agree that there’s “nothing wrong with a woman’s body in its natural state.” But “natural” is not everyone’s goal or desire: some are after “appropriate” or “proportional”. And this doesn’t make them rude or ignorant.

      • filmcricket

        Braavo.

  • http://weirdinedgewise.blogspot.com ONEWEIRDWORD

Hehe! I love this too. It’s okay she doesn’t wear a bra – her girls are compact; by all means, set them free.

  • Sue_Asponte

It’s odd that she’s willing to endure the torture of ridiculously high heels, but not the torture of a nice nude braa. (Not that I don’t love the heels — they are killaah.)

  • veronicafish

Sorry. I love her but she needs a braa.

  • SewingSiren

For aa minute there I thought something waas wrong with my eyes.

  • vahtel

Did anyone else start reading this as if you were a sheep? Baa Baa

    • NoveltyRocker

I was reading it like maybe it was her slow valley-girl voice or some stoned, just sexed key partier.

  • marlie

If she wasn’t braless under a sheer dress, I’d love this on her. This is a perfect and *stylish* interpretation of her aesthetic. And I’d cut a bitch for her shoes. I also love that his shirt is coordinated with her dress.

  • ErmengardeGreen

    Haa!

  • MGMcD

Maaggie, even if you’re an aa cup, you still need a braa.

  • Trickytrisha

Aaah, they’re so fine here. Loved him in The Killing this paast season. She’s beginning to grow on me. They maake aa perfect couple.

  • Denise Alden

LOVE the “’70s swinging reaalness.” Shame about her bra allergy, though.

  • KayEmWhy

    The Braa is aabsent. Nooooooooooo

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I hate it enough for everyone.

  • nicewilliams

I’m seeing too many privacies on both of them, and I feel a little weird.

  • nannypoo

She looks really cute here. Her makeup is pretty. I agree that a bra would have been a good idea, but this is much better than how she usually looks. They’re cute together.

  • kimmeister

I like the idea of her shoes with that dress, but those particular shoes are cut super wide, showing all of her toe cleavage.

  • netdivaweb

So, because of the color and fabric of her dress, it does look like her breasts are down around her waist on first glance. I had to stare at the picture to really figure it out and I’m not happy with myself for doing. Wear a bra or don’t, but please wear a dress with darker fabric if you want to be loose and free.

  • Janet B

    They look good together.

  • MartyBellerMask

Love seeing them featured together! He is sex on a stick. Hey, if I needed to do her to get to him, I’d do it. TMI?

    • sagecreek

Well, at least it wouldn’t be hard to get her out of that dress.

      • demidaemon

You probably wouldn’t even need to go that far.

  • jilly_d

GOD, I bet he is just terrific in the sack.

    • MartyBellerMask

That look on his face. Can’t even explain it. Sheesh. You know.

  • Dagney

    LOVE. all of it.

  • Ronni H.

Thaat dress looks like aa Graandmaa’s nightgown

  • Line

I should hate their outfits, but I don’t. Their adorableness make them hard to score. What a charming, gorgous couple.

    • conniemd

They look really comfortable with each other.

  • sagecreek

I just caan’t disaagree with you, aalthough i do. The double aa thing is just too cute.

  • missinmass

This reminds me The Killing is not being renewed next year…it’s over. They should never have killed Bullet.

    • VictoriaDiNardo

The episode when he was sent to his death was one of the most riveting things I’ve ever seen. Sorry to see it go, but I’m not surprised.

  • Pterodactyl111

It took me until the laast paaraagraaph to notice.

  • nyll18

I asked on the Michael Kors thread what the point of exposed breasts on the runway is, since no one wears sheers shirts sans bra in real life. Well, I suppose Maggie needed to prove me wrong!

  • filmcricket

Thaat’s waay more thaan I needed to know aabout her aareolaae.

  • amanda siegelson

i like her dress – i think it needs aa belt, but i still like it. but her haair… honey. do something aabout thaat. i know it’s possible.

  • jjtxgrrl

I LOVE both of them….but I think they both look weird…something is off…and she’s frumpy and he’s too shiny…I dunno.

  • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Her make-up and hair look great too. She glows around her hubby. I love that they ‘match’ but if she was not standing next to him, you are right that he would look a little 70′s slime bag. It all works though.

  • chylde

Mmm. I saw them do Chekov together on stage. It was magnificent. They’re serving up Brooklyn realness. LOVE!

  • ItsDicey

    Bahahaaaaaaa! Greaat job, guys.

  • boweryboy

Didn’t women wear sheer dresses and blouses with nothing underneath during the 60s and early 70s? I know at the time they made sheer bras for the purpose of allowing your girls to been seen but with all the support.

Maybe Maggie is trying to bring that back.

I’ve never found him attractive until this moment. Maybe it’s the smarminess of his outfit that’s doing it for me.

  • Mazenderan

Well – you can’t say that she doesn’t have a style, it’s just that the style is a weird ‘dowdy 1970s’ thing. I think the difference between her real smile on the bottom pic and the ones for the camera is pretty telling – I don’t think she enjoys the whole red carpet thing.

    She needs a bra. Immediately.

  • bellafigura1

Love, except for her kicks. She needed to finish this look with something platform-y and strappy. She’s serving up the braa-less business beautifully, and he. is. cute.

  • acevedob

    Sooo shinyyyy…yuccckkk.

  • mousetomato

    Where’s her grandma, Shirley MacLaine?

  • Imasewsure

I’m ignoring the bra issue here because I love the color combo of brown and blue on her. Gorgeous and her hair and makeup are perfect too. I like his look but don’t love it. They look really cute together though.

  • ballerinawithagun

Was it raining? Or was it an “Ice Storm”?

    • http://howtofaint.tumblr.com/ How to Faint

I think she sneezed on him.

  • HVM

This is a great investment for her because she will still be able to wear the exact same dress when she’s 80 and they’re living it up on a cruise ship.

  • Shell

I think your A key is sticking. ;)

  • kathrineb

Suddenly I am not loving that hair much on Maggie and I usually love short hair perhaps its just with this look. She is one hell of a confident woman walking around sans bra in a sheer dress. But good for her I guess :-)

  • Getoverit

Was it raaining? Whats with the spots all over the suit? Am I missing something?

Also – just cuz you have little ones doesn’t mean they can’t look like a sock with a ball in the bottom.

  • Anplica Fiore

Finally a couple that look like they’re going to the same event!

  • Jane

I just want her to put a bra on once in a while just to shake things up be daring.
