Lena Dunham in Rebecca Minkoff at the L.A. Loves Alex’s Lemonade Event
Well… the color’s pretty on her. We’ll give her that. And she at least knows to pick a thematically appropriate color for the event. But she still seems to have an aversion to flattering shapes and no idea at all how to accessorize.
“Girls” star Lena Dunham attends the L.A. Loves Alex’s Lemonade Event in Culver City, California in a yellow crepe dress by Rebecca Minkoff from the Fall 2013 collection paired with Rebecca Minkoff boots.

Those shoes are just plain wrong for this dress. We don’t even much like the idea of black shoes here, but the model shot shows that you can possibly make it work with the right shoe. These gigantic clodhoppers are absolutely awful. She picks shapes that obscure or exaggerate her own shape and we think she does that on purpose. She couldn’t choose a pair of proportionally appropriate shoes to go with such a girly, revealing dress. She had to pick the ones that look like weapons. The thing is, we’d respect that approach if we thought there was some real point to it and if she was making interesting choices. But she just picked a dress and a pair of shoes from the same designer and kind of mashed them together, like a kid playing with her food.
We also, deep down, respect that part of her that gleefully exhibits her body at every opportunity, in full defiance of a culture that says her body should not be celebrated. But the back view here is horrible – and not because she has tattoos or a back roll. The way the back of the dress plummets to that awkward horizontal line placed right over a skirt designed to make every wearer’s butt look flatter and wider is just about the most unflattering back of a garment we’ve ever seen. It looks horrible on the model. Everything about this is awkward and only some of it is deliberately so, to our eyes.
