Katie Holmes in New York City

Posted on September 18, 2013

Cute late-summer NYC look:

Katie Holmes out and about in New York City.

She’s really nailing the whole New York style thing. Don’t love the boots but it’s a non-working day look. We can’t hate. We are, however, dying to see what she bought at Isabel Marant. We don’t know that Katie strikes us as the most personable person in the world, but we bet she’s an excellent person to go shopping with.

Love it, she looks super cute. And the contrast with her friend/minion in the grey t-shirt is telling. There’s casual/frumpy and there’s casual/chic. It’s not hard to tell who the star is.

    • “No, you may not wear that outfit to work with me. Who is the star here?”

    • Let’s not assess the civilians, please.

      • Spicytomato1

        Oops, sorry about that.

  • misstressofsylar

nice to see her getting a lot of mileage from those boots. I’ve seen pics of her wearing them several times

  • Diego!

Super chic, I agree with the boots but let’s forgive her for once πŸ˜›

  • lobsterlen

I am alone here but I kind of like the boots.

    • Rhonda Shore

      They’d be better in black.

    • twocee

      I love the boots, but I’m fashion-impaired πŸ™‚

  • It’s taken her a while to get the proportion thing right for wearing jeans, but she’s nailed it here. Skinny jeans, slouchy top, very cute!

  • Bless her heart, she loves those damn booties. Now, gimme that sweater!

    • DB Ruberto

After several Really Close Looks, I’m thinking that sweater is mad-knittable (as in, easily replicated)…

      • Well, get right on that. You can send it to me in the mail. I don’t knit and the only sewing done in my home is by my husband.

        • Just Me

          I luv you.

      • StellaZafella

2 big striped squares and 2 little striped rectangles…you don’t really even need to shape the neckline on something like this because it’ll roll down by itself at the edge in stockinette…adds to that Boho, repurposed, ‘oh, I just threw this on’ kind of look. Do it at 5 sts by 7 rows to the inch in something with cashmere and it’ll look like a million bucks and be done in a weekend.

        • AND THEN sent to moi.

          • formerlyAnon

“If you don’t ask, you’ll never get” huh?
            Good luck!

        • DB Ruberto

Exactly. Don’t you know my little hands are ITCHING to make this…

        • marlie

Just wait… there’ll be a knockoff pattern on Ravelry within the week.

  • I’ll bet you anything she got another pair of boots at Isabel Marant. She loves those things!

  • chylde

She’s downtown in Soho and hoping to blend in with the Eurotrash prowling those streets. And it’s a helluva lot easier to clomp around in chunky little boots on those cobblestones than wearing stilettos.

  • decormaven

It works! I like this kind of style on her much more than the floral outfit she wore at NYFW.

  • Clueless_Jock

I marvel at her ability to text while drinking a cup of coffee.

    • filmcricket

It doesn’t actually look like she’s texting anything, just holding her phone. I’m more interested in the trailers in shots 2 & 3. Was she shopping on her lunch break? Passing by someone else’s set? Or did the paps just “happen” to catch her outside a movie trailer, making it look like she’s working?

      • mlle

I’d say it’s either option 2 or 3 – she’s clearly leaving the area in the last shot.

  • TrixieConQueso

Her SansTom Life seems to be a WERQ. Go get your own life cute thing.

    • HVM

      So true. Same for Nicole.

  • SugarSnap108

Cute! I’m not in love with the boots, either — partly because of how the jeans are kinda-in, kinda-out of them.

    • kimmeister

Yes, the bottom of the jeans and the top of the boots meet an awkward place, not allowing them to stay fully out or in.

  • Danielle

I’m not a bootie fan, but she’s making these sing.

  • veleri

I think it’s a good ensamble. Easy, pretty, and comfortable. I guess it’s the best look to walk around and go shopping.
(don’t really dislike the boots either)

  • Jacquelyn

    That sweater looks super comfy.

  • cocohall

Professional positioning of Marant bag. Plus she texts and carries a beverage. Is there a school for this? I’m not kidding. I think Bravo needs to develop this. Red Carpet Ready. Prepping for the Papparazzi. Andy Cohen, are you listening?

  • formerlyAnon

I like how backpack guy in pic #3 seems mildly annoyed that this photo-op/text-fest is taking up the sidewalk. I love NYC.

  • Just Me

I don’t hate the boots. I hate the color with the rest of her outfit. Give me some black or red boots in the same shape and I would have been all-a-coveting. The shoes are jarring.

  • MilaXX

I wouldn’t hate the boots if the jeans and boots didn’t cut at the weird length where they won’t stay over the boot and the won’t stay tucked in the boots either.

  • marlie

Cute! I love everything about this look except for the boots, but that’s a matter of personal preference.

  • Call me Bee

I just got back from a couple weeks in Copenhagen and Stockholm, and this look is all over the place. They love their booties, and I like them here, too. What I do not like is the off-the-shoulder sweater. It’d be so much better without the huge neckline–just a cute striped sweater. (I didn’t like it during the “Flashdance” days, either…)

  • kmk05

You know, Stacy and Clinton said that a pair of jeans must make your butt look good: and, well, in that last pic, I’m not sure those jeans are doing her ass any favour. I think the jeans might be too high-waisted and the pockets are sitting too high! They kick ass from the front, though.

    • oohsparkley!

I think her butt looks fine and the pockets too. Pockets that continue below the butt cheek look strange to me. Just a difference of opinion, we don’t all have to agree.

      • kmk05

Her butt definitely looks fine, I think the pockets are just sitting a bit too high instead of right on them, if that makes any sense? Indefinitely biased in my dislike for high-waisted jeans, though! Like you said, to each their own.

    • I’ve rarely agreed with most of Stacy and Clinton’s “rules” and stopped watching years ago. Just got tired of telling them how wrong I thought they were.

  • rage_on_the_page

My wife and I have been bingeing on “Dawson’s Creek,” so I now see her in a different/more favorable light. Joey’s all grown up πŸ™‚

  • kimmeister

The black strings hanging out of the back of her sweater are bugging. Cute shades though.

  • bellafigura1

I love the bag. Can anyone identify?

  • Dan_In_NYC

May I just say, post-Cruise Katie appears to be loving life. Good for her.

  • GillianHolroyd

    Thank you.

    • Tracy_Flick

I know, the guy with the backpack in the third pic is cracking me up.

  • Lilak

My only response to this was “So?”
I’ve got to remember to peg my expectations lower for these out-and-about posts. Just can’t help hoping that someday the bar will be set at “Bill Cunningham would snap this.”

    • mlle

A relative of mine got snapped by Cunningham and made it into the (print! where there is a finite amount of space!) paper.

  • unbornfawn

Katie looks great. She has looked so frumpy lately. Not a bit of frump in sight! Way to go girl!

  • LaSylphide

Big, slouchy, off-the-shoulder, striped sweater; skinny jeans; cute boots: what’s not to love?

  • gubblebumm

I HAVE THAT OUTFIT!!! pretty dern close anyway…I feel so special

  • frannyprof

The boots ruin the look. I’ll bet we’ll be seeing them all through fall and winter. Maybe spring. And probably into next summer…

  • neonseattle

I love the boots. They look like an APC style I’ve had on my wishlist for awhile. Jealous of whatever’s in her IM bag.

  • Okay. I’m old. I’m old fashioned. Black handbag with brown boots? No, not in my world.
