Julianne Hough in Emilio Pucci at the Estée Lauder Modern Muse Party

Posted on September 16, 2013

Somebody seriously needs to rescue this girl from dressing 3 decades above her age.

Julianne Hough attends the Estée Lauder “Modern Muse” Fragrance Launch Party at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City in an Emilio Pucci dress paired with Casadei shoes, an Aviva Rose Jewelry ring, and Sorellina earrings.

Emilio Pucci Fall 2013 Collection/Model: Ava Smith

Honey, we love Samantha Jones, but even she would admit you’re too young to be dressing like her.

Such an odd little dress. From the neck to about mid-torso, it looks totally bridal, and then below that it looks like a slip. Add a tacky pair of stripper shoes and the whole thing looks crazy-confusing to our eyes.

Also, and we’re saying this in our polite voices, you really need to grow your hair out, hon. No matter what you do, when it’s this length, it’s totally Hillary Clinton hair.

Seriously, if you’re getting two bitchy fashion bloggers to pull out both the Samantha Jones AND the Hillary Clinton references for the same look, that’s one messed up look, girl.

    1968 Vegas Stripper Bride.

    • Rand Ortega

She left the Go Go boots in the car & wore sandals for the reception.

  • Stella Zawistowski

This is Pucci? When I think Pucci, I think fun and youthful…not bath towel over grandma’s curtains.

This is not only not her dress, it’s not anybody’s dress. I don’t even think Iman could save this one.

    • Daisy Walker

Only a match and some lighter fluid could save that dress…from our eyes.

    • The granny panties, or short under skirt or whatever the hell she has on under there is not helping.

  • Beth513

BUT her eyebrows seem to be looking better, so at least there is that.

    • kimmeister

I was thinking that this was a personal best for her brows. In fact, all of the makeup components are working like gangbusters.

  • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

Her makeup is better than usual, it seems. But that’s really the best thing I can say and even that’s damning with faint praise.

    • KateShouldBeWorking

Even so, there’s so much of it. I’d believe she was the prettiest queen at Drag Prom.

    • Let it out

Yep, the makeup is nice. A smoky eye has always suited her.

  • marlie

This girl never gets it right. I don’t know what to say…

  • leahpapa

Uncles, I love you. But I wish you’d lay off her hair. After some wacky endocrine issues postpartum, a great deal of my hair fell out, and the remainder just looked brittle and sad. So I cut it not unlike Miss Julianne’s and am trying to hold on to my self-esteem in a world obsessed with regulating women’s tresses. I’m probably (read: definitely) overpersonalizing, but that criticism hits a sore spot for me.

    • I don’t see Hilary at all and I like this length for her.

    • Maria Parramore

Right there with you @leahpapa:disqus. Still mourning my long, thick hair.

      • shirab

Sing it, sisters. I remember what my ponytails looked like 20 yrs ago. They do not look like that anymore. And the less said about what’s happening at the front top, the better. Sniff.

        • demidaemon

I actually thought this was a definite improvement for her in the hair department. I think it actually has a bit more volume and flip than Hilary’s iconic look (Hilary’s hair in the nineties always seemed a bit flat to me.) I mean, it’s probably not the best hair for her, but it is looking better than usual.

  • Rand Ortega

    That’s terrible.

  • aahlife

The runway version doesn’t have that white bandage around the middle. It is considerably sleeker. Julianne’s version looks chopped up and makes her look wider than she is. Wondering what the back looks like.

    • marlie

UGH. That makes it so much worse.

  • KF

Is there any hope for hair that length? Is it just her particular cut? Asking for a friend. :/

  • One must be 5’11 and model thin to properly work this challenging dress. Spread wide and with boyshorts or a mini underneath has changed it for the worse. I like her hair just fine. And her makeup is improved. As she has a body to kill for, this is not her dress.

  • crash1212

There’s really nothing right about this look, but those shoes take it to a whole ‘nother level of wrongness. It looks like she did lighten her brows – FINALLY – which makes a huge difference.

  • hughman

    Got milk?

  • DTLAFamilies

I’m three decades older than her and I wouldn’t touch that dress on a rack for 90% off.

  • Heaven preserve us from the woman 30 years older who tries to carry this off. I don’t think this is too old for her, I just think it’s a horrible dress. But if she cut out the weird little feature over her bellybutton, she’d be right on track for a slutty First Communion halloween costume.

  • alyce1213

This is pretty much a Frankendress, no? There’s at least 3 different dress parts going on, none of them makes sense with the other. She’s a pretty girl with a great figure, she has so little to do to look good yet somehow she manages to not.

  • 3boysful

Actually, I think her hair and makeup here look darned good for her. I even like the dress from the boobs up. The rest is fug. It looks like a matronly suit, but someone stole the bottom half, so she came out in top and slip.

I do notice that whenever I dislike shoes, 90% of the time they are by Casadei.

  • Jacquelyn

That top half would make a very pretty start to a wedding dress….
I’m so tired of open shoes. I don’t get how people wear them
Also, is it the lightening or do her legs look several shades darker than the rest of her?

  • Little_Olive

I kid you not, I had a pretty rebellious friend who insisted on altering the dress her mom had chosen for our First Holy Communion because she thought it was too prudish. The result was very, very similar to this, and equally ugly.

The shoes are bad enough on their on; paired with that dress, really there are no words.

  • Katesymae

Somewhere in the ’80s, a shotgun wedding is missing its bride. Also, that modesty mini needs to go.

  • Imasewsure

That is Zooey D’s wedding dress

    • Katesymae

      With tights.

  • MilaXX

I don’t hate the hair and makeup, I just think that’s an ugly dress.

  • bertkeeter

    Stylist be damed!

  • lobsterlen

YIKES!!!!! Run! Julianne! Run! And while you are running strip because you are wearing the bride of frankendress dress! The angry villagers are going to be coming with pitch folks and torches to kill it.

  • elemspbee

    Mother of the Bride.

  • stu844

I can’t think of a single image where Hillary’s hair was styled this much. And just because it’s short and blonde (or ‘yellow’ as Tina Fey likes to call it) does not make it “Hillary hair.” There is nothing wrong with short hair which can look cute and sexy, so please, Gay Uncles, give us more reasoning behind her needing longer hair than “it’s totally Hillary Clinton.” Will growing it out do a better job of accentuating her [insert body part here] or softening her chin? Why should it be longer other than to fit our culture’s stereotypical definition of sexy?

The dress is horrible though and I don’t think it would look good on anyone.

    • demidaemon

I said something very similar up above.

    • TerryMH

I agree with your comment because I wear my hair in a very similar hairstyle and like to think that I’m still sexy, emphasis on “like to think.”

    • You’re confusing a critique of Julianne’s hair with a critique of all women who have similar haircuts as hers or even all women with short hair.

  • Danielle

  • hellkell

HOT DAMN, that is one ugly dress.

  • LaSylphide

    That’s just awful.

  • largishbearishAtlish

I am assuming she is pregnant??

    • Beth513

Probably not, she’s not bearding for the Seacrest anymore, so I see no reason why he would have had her artificially inseminated at this point.

  • decormaven

Child, call whoever used to dress you for DWTS. Even your over the top dance outfits were cuter than this dreck. Whoever her stylist is should be called up for Design Turpidtude.

    • demidaemon

It’s sad when sparkly hooker is an improvement over whatever you are currently wearing.

      • decormaven

  • ashtangajunkie

I don’t mind her hair at all, but this dress is just upsetting.

  • Trickytrisha

But Uncles, at the the stripper shoes are metallic! Anyway, her face looks better than usual. Dress is a disaster.

  • NBG

Oh honey, no. Do not dress for the RC by shopping in the Fredericks of Hollywood catalog! Seriously!

  • No matter how many times I google it, I cannot believe she’s 25. TWENTY FIVE.

  • frannyprof

    I.S.S.: It’s the styling, stupid.

  • a_liking

what Hillary Clinton are /you/ looking at that this looks like H.Clint hair? the dress is a little stripper bride and the shoes are nothing, but she is so gorgeous I don’t even care.

  • The dress would look better with darker hair.

Maybe Selena Gomes or Taylor Swift could wear this.

    • demidaemon

I think Selena would not choose to wear anything white (at least, i can’t remember her wearing anything that color in the past year) and this is way too see-through for Miss Virgin Taylor Swift.

      • You’re probably right. I was thinking that the dress needed some kind of “innocence” factor, even though these girls are shedding their innocence. Taylor especially has the long legs that would look nice (to me)

  • demidaemon

I think she looks like a hooker who grew up in the sixties. Not right at all.

  • Trisha26

YIKES! I don’t think it looks too old for her, then again my first thought was Mother Of The Bride. Why do designers use sheer fabric if there’s no hope of anyone wearing it that way under real-world conditions?

  • quiltrx

This dress looks really cheap, and it doesn’t fit well either. Ick.

  • Corsetmaker

A 3 decades older woman wearing that would look like a cross between Bette Davis in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane and Beryl Reid in Entertaining Mr Sloane!

I quite like it on the model but but it needs someone taller, leggier and lacking hips… like the model. The shoes are poor and the hair is dated.

  • Getoverit

The dress doesn’t look as old on the model. I think its her hair that is aging her. Also like the models shoes way better.

  • Laura Renee

Her face is really pretty, though.

  • CatherineRhodes

I love the dress, actually. I love it on the model. Yes, it’s fussy, but I think it’s sweet and for me the short skirt keeps it young. For me Ms. Hough is too curvy for a look like this – it needs to be on a straight skinny ‘banana shape’ silhouette to work. Julienne’s hips are pulling the flaps apart and that is ruining the look.

  • She is a gorgeous girl, and such a talented dancer… such a shame to see her wasting those good looks and moves by trying to be an “actor” and an “edgy”(??) fashionista. Le sigh.
