Jennifer Lopez at a Studio in Hollywood

Posted on September 16, 2013

We’d quibble about some of the details, but the more we look at this look, the more we like it.

Jennifer Lopez arrives at a studio in Hollywood, California. Jennifer Lopez is wearing Lana Jewelry ‘Large Eclipse’ earrings.

Let’s start off with the quibbles: the shoes don’t go at all, the accessories overall are too matchy, and she’d look so much better here with her hair down. Although that last one’s a serious nitpick, since this is a day outfit and she’s not making a public appearance. She’s quite free to wear her topknot. We’re just saying; a big blowout would’ve looked killer here.

But we really love this dress on her; maybe because we’re so not used to seeing her in these earthy sundresses. It really works for her. She should hit up Eva Mendes to really show her how to do flowy, wild, boho prints like this and look street-fabulous, but she’s off to a pretty good start here.  Loving the hoops.

Serious hate for the shoes the longer we look at them.

It makes me feel better about my own hair to see that when she pulls her actual hair up into a top knot, that’s all there is of it.

    • Mismarker

      Yes! Two words. Sock bun.

      • Love a sock bun.
Love it for day 2 hair that doesn’t want to cooperate.
Love it for damp hair that I want to turn into giant curls when I take it down many hours later.
Love it for giving my fine locks the look of oomph, instead of a sad little topknot.

        • Getoverit

I have yet to figure out how to do it! Seems so easy…

          • Youtube is your copilot – there are some really good tutorials.

          • MilaXX

Cosign! I have people amazed at the many ways I can style my locs thanks to youtube

          • Also makeup tutorials. And crafty things. God knows how I managed my life beforehand.

          • kimmeister

Have you ever seen the one where the preteen girl tries to demonstrate how to use a wand curling iron, and ends up burning a whole chunk off hair right off? It’s LOLOLOLOL

          • I had to watch a youtube video. That helped.
I find that even as I’m rolling my hair down and around the sock, halfway it looks like it’s going to be too messy and not look right, but the next roll, tucks all that under and you end up with a weirdly smooth bun. Give it a go!

        • ShaoLinKitten

Going to dig into my pile of dozens of mismatched socks to give this a shot.

      • kimmeister

I never knew there was a such a thing, thank you! Good use for those socks whose mates have mysteriously disappeared.

      • patticake1601

I’ve never heard of “sock bun”. Sounds like the answer to my woefully thin hair!

  • SewingSiren

“Oh, this is just some old thing I throw on when I don’t care how I look.”

    • Mrs. Julien

“C’mon Georgie, aren’t you tired of just reading about things?”

  • valerie747

This dress screams for a summer tote, not a heavy handbag.

    • valerie747

      PS: Killer sunglasses !!!

    • ballerinawithagun

Yes, between the angry look on her face and the tough looking handbag, I’m afraid she is ready to hit someone over the head.

  • Jacquelyn

I think JLo gets a thumbs up anytime she manages to leave the house in something that doesn’t appear to be painted on.

  • nannypoo

    I sure hate that bag.

  • marlie

I’m not a fan of the shoes or the bag, but the dress is killa on her. A perfect casual LA dress.

  • MaggieMae

I cannot get on board with asymmetrical hems. They continue to look like a mistake to my eye.

  • Diego!

I don’t know why, but the girl in jeans and white t-shirt caught my attention, where is JLo?

  • Rhonda Shore

meh but it’s not a red carpet. Props for those deltoids!

  • Sobaika

The earthy-chic look isn’t something I’d associate with JLo but she looks surprisingly great (quibbles aside). She should attempt this more often.

  • Sarah

Visible Bra = points deduction. I appreciate that she’s gotta support the girls, but at least have it be a black one, you know?

    • Getoverit

Im trying to figure the bra out. Glad shes wearing one, black, nude or brown would have been better, but what kind of bra is it? Wheres the back or the straps?

      • Sarah

I know, I posted this and then wondered the same thing – where’s the back?? Either it’s a convertible cross-torso wrap number or a sticky-boob-cup model.

        • Getoverit

Do those sticky things work? In the past she hasn’t appeared to be very well endowed up top so maybe it works for smaller gals.

          • Sarah

I do not know. I have only seen them for sale. I always think that anytime adhesive is involved with areolas, it is bound to be painful, and therefore I steer clear of the whole idea, but if they continue to be sold, somebody must be making a go of it, eh?

        • twigg

          possibly a corset style bra?

      • kimmeister

I couldn’t stop staring myself. I’ve decided it must be adhesive.

        • ballerinawithagun

I didn’t realize it was a bra until all of you pointed it out. I thought she had a Chrome Hearts crucifix stuck in between her breasts!

    • Erica

O.k., I see that now. Which means she’s trying. Because I was just thinking that she needed some more support (something that ain’t easy in that dress, but if you need it in life, you need it).

I don’t think the “sticky things” work very well (well, they are laughable on me), but the sticky part goes under, and then it sits on top of you, so no painful areolas.

      • Sarah

Well, that’s a relief to my imagination. I just chalked it up to “the things women go through” but now I know they don’t go through THAT, haha.

  • AC Simons

  • Jenna Marie

I don’t know. I hate it all. Though it’s a new look for her, it’s a tired look in general. It looks like one of her 2003-2010 romcom looks. Ehhhhh.

  • Imasewsure

Hate the shoes. Hate top knots in general…. Hair down or a loose pony tail and some sparkly flip flops and this would have been casu-fabulous!

  • Kate

Seriously hate that I can see her [could be?] bra.

  • Lucky Penny

I don’t like the halter neckline. She looks dumpy up top.

  • decormaven

Those shoes and bag are so, so wrong. But love the dress!

  • sagecreek

    Love the flowey skirt!

As my dear old mom would say, the topknot makes her look like a peeled onion.

  • kimmeister

Those shoes don’t belong on anyone, with any outfit. They are an abomination.

  • For me it’s vice versa: love the shoes, hate the dress. But these are Gwen Stefani shoes for an edgy outfit, not for boho dress. The bag is an abomination,

  • Sunraya

Hate the visible bra. Tacky, tacky, tacky.

  • Erica_Vuitton

She looks so beautiful just casual like this. Love the whole look.

  • ShaoLinKitten

My nitpick is that we can see her bra in her cleavage. I really hate that, and it’s so easy to avoid.

  • ashtangajunkie

I love this on her! But I strongly detest those shoes and that bag.

  • Lucas

she looks pretty here. It’s really pretty and it looks very comfortable. i think it would work better with some sandals, though.

  • MilaXX

I like everything but the she here. A simple wedge would have worked better.

  • Jaeda Laurez

I love the entire look except for the shoes, which I would probably love with something else. J-Lo has been master of the baby hair topknot since she was rocking velour booty shawts with Ja Rule. That’s HER look lol, and I’m always here for it.

  • jjtxgrrl

Her bra peeking out in the front bugs. But then again, its better than bra-less at her age…

I guess its OK. But don’t celebs have money for all types of underwear? Seems like the needed undergarmet is in her fancy scmancy closet somewhere….

  • Fairly standard LA-when-it’s-too-hot-to-live summertime look. She does look good but the shoes are the worst.

  • The shoes are horrible, as is the onionhead look with the hair. I like the dress.

  • SorayaS

Nope. I love the print but that handkerchief style in a dress or top is hideously unflattering on everyone. The shoes are awful and the slicked back hair doesn’t go with the relaxed hippie dress. I know everyone just wants to be comfortable sometimes but I don’t think relaxed hippie is in JLo’s wheelhouse.

  • formerlyAnon

More casual shoes and I’d be giving her points for tapping back into that “Jenny from the block” credit line.

  • Louise Bryan

I hate the shoes on principle, but I actually think J-Lo looks pretty good here, top to bottom.

  • Trickytrisha

She seems to default to the topknot a whole lot. Not the best look for her, but probably easy for her to do herself (as if that ever happens). The shoes need to meet a bonfire ASAP. The type of dress with some adjustments would be a good look for her if it was less boring brown.

  • demidaemon

I have to say that my favorite part of this post is the title. It says a great deal about celebrity culture to me.

  • She looks dowdy. This dress would be great by the pool or at the beach or at an intimate home dinner/barbecue—with flat sandals.

  • Trisha26

I like the bag & the shoes. The rest is god-awful.

  • livesarah

    Hem, hair and shoes: Hate.
