Jennifer Lawrence for MissDior Fall 2013 Ad Campaign

Posted on September 05, 2013

Miss Jennifer can serve up “fresh-faced” like nobody’s business.

Jennifer Lawrence for “Miss Dior” Fall 2013 ad campaign photographed by Willy Vanderperre.

We’re loving it. There’s something about the directness that’s appealing. You don’t normally see Dior dealing in that kind of personality-driven imagery. It’s usually all romance and chicness, which is fine, but doesn’t necessarily speak to a modern woman customer. Jennifer, beautiful and rarefied as her beauty is, manages to bridge that gap between the unattainable fashion model ideal and the average consumer. Are we overthinking it? Maybe. But we’d stop and stare if we saw these on a billboard.

    • RussellH88

      Katniss is turning it out.

    • Diego!

Gorgeous! I thought she was Natalie Portman in the first pic. :P

    • CatherineRhodes

I love that they didn’t photoshop out the small moles on her face and neck.

      • eowyn_of_rohan

Yes, was just about to say that! Of course it’s been airbrushed and retouched, but little things like that are so appealing.

        • CatherineRhodes

I wish fashion editors would understand that we want models who look like women, not like aliens from over-photoshopping.

      • Nancer

I agree, it’s nice to see images that are natural.

      • SugarSnap108

So agree. A big part of what makes these shots beautiful (other than her beauty) is that you know you’re looking at a living, breathing human, and not some weird cyborg version of a celebrity.

      • Amber J

Me too. I’m of turkish and irish descent. To say I have a lot of freckles/moles would be the understatement of the year (I even have 3 moles on the side of my neck that you could connect and they’d form the points of perfect triangle). I love them and embrace having them, and it’s nice to see that Jennifer’s have been left to show.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

And I love that their choice of coat and bag isn’t so over the top as to appear unreachable by a consumer of less than astronomical income status.

      • Julie

But make no mistake, they most certainly are unreachable. ;-)

    • Erica_Vuitton

YAAASSSS J Law!! Saw these yesterday and I just sat and stared for like 20 mins they were so beautiful. She looks beyond stunning here. Love how they didn’t Photoshop her to death like the last round of ad shots keeping her moles and the little flyaways. She is perfection just as she is.

      • conniemd

Yes. That was exactly my thought, that they didn’t photoshop out her moles and freckles and such, showing there is beauty that is fresh and natural and doesn’t need to be “flawless.” Brava Dior.

        • Erica_Vuitton

If I remember correctly even she said the ads didn’t look like her. Perhaps she had more say on this second round. I’d like to imagine she said “And tell them to make me look like a fucking human this time.”

    • kmk05

Love it. They really made her work it. I don’t get the lonely earring (?) in the last pic, though.

      • Meg0GayGuys6

Yea that’s really weird… I scrolled up a few times to make sure, but it’s only in that last picture. But she looks faaaaaabulous!

      • Emily Smith

I didn’t even see it until I read your comment. It is weird.

      • Sarah

She’s just been on the 80’s phone. (You know, the one where you have to take off your big, 80’s earring so it doesn’t get in the way).

      • HM3

Great. Now it’s making my eye twitch. Wabi sabi?

      • another_laura

Makes her more relatable. I’ve lost one earring from several pair over the last couple of months. Now that I know she has, too, I want to go buy a Dior coat – see how it works?

      • kimmeister

I noticed that right away myself. It sets off my Adrian Monk-like need for symmetry.

    • aeb1986

I never noticed what a perfect little nose she had! Love these photos!

    • Janet B

      Pretty.
I keep scrolling back up to look again.

    • Tatiana Luján

I love the campaign and Lawrence was perfect for it.
Don’t the purses look very Channel?
I love the fresh face, but they put too much makeup in her eyebrows.

      • KateShouldBeWorking

        Like copyright-infringement Channel.

    • anotherkate

I get what you mean about beauty-meets-approachability. Sometimes I just LIKE her so much–what she says, the way she goofs around and acts like a human who knows she’s blessed and seems to be enjoying the ride for as long as it lasts–that I forget how utterly, fascinatingly beautiful she is. What a face that woman has!

I’m not sure if I’m jealous of her or if I kind of want to marry her…

      • RebeccaKW

        Both.

    • MilaXX

I love these. Dior wisely stayed away from high fashion-y looks and is playing to Jen’s strengths. She looks gorgeous and make me forget for a minute that I can’t actually afford Dior.

    • CPK1

no, not overthinking but perfectly explaining.I love it and now I know why! Ah to be that fresh faced again!

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

I never stop falling in love with her.

    • BarniClaw

Is the purse photoshopped out of the first photo or into the fourth? Looks like the same pic otherwise. [Wow, I really should be applying this scrutiny to something I'm getting paid to do...]

    • Frank_821

Yes fabulous. A celebrity endorsement based ad that makes sense. How rare is that?

    • Latin Buddy

      LOVE THIS.

    • Kate Andrews

My only question is why only one earring in the last photo?

    • Sobaika

I love this because it looks like Jennifer Lawrence and a Dior ad. Remember last season and their photochop hell? There’s no point in getting such a celebrity to model for a brand if they remove the star entirely from the ad.

    • Kate

One million times better than her last Dior ad.

    • kmk05

I just went back to look at the 2012 campaign, and they actually Photoshopped THE HELL out of her skin (let us not talk about the size issue). She was so smooth… This is such a beautiful contrast in comparison.

    • nannypoo

      Beautiful.

    • Nicholas

Love it. Finally something that feels authentic.

    • Kent Roby

I love this much more than the wet-haired models in the previous Dior post.

    • Random Compliments

      Stunning.

    • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

That coat is giving me a serious case of the wants. She looks gorgeous and you hit the nail on the head. As beautiful as she is, it’s a relatable sort of beauty. Very real, not at all doll-like, but arresting nonetheless.

    • Jacquelyn

Gorgeous! And man do I want that coat.

    • jenno1013

You can’t not look at her eyes. Also, I love all her moles.

    • marlie

She looks really pretty her. Very clean and fresh, but just lovely.

    • MarissaLG

This is one of the best ads I’ve seen in a really, really long time.

    • Wendy Holdsworth

      one earring

    • decormaven

Stunning! Between this, the next Hunger Games installment, and American Hustle- lady is on a roll.

    • PeggyOC

She’s serving up Blanchett levels of face in that last shot.

    • veleri

      effortless

    • Angela_the_Librarian

      I want that coat!

    • Spicytomato1

Beautiful. Fresh-faced indeed. I want to show it to my son, who is lately complaining about his moles and wanting to get them removed. I tell him they’re what makes him uniquely him…but he doesn’t seem to buy it. Maybe this will help.

    • http://smalltownbigwardrobe.com/ Catherine

I now want to go wash all my makeup off.

    • Jennifer Bober

I think that one of the things that is so appealing about her is that there is a softness to her beauty. While she is thin and toned, it’s not a starved look. It’s healthy and fit without being taken to an extreme. That’s why it feels attainable. She’s beautiful without the artifice, so when a little is tastefully applied, it doesn’t bother you.

    • cowper

Yay for bare ears! And unbedecked neckline! And unadorned hands and wrists! Modern gal doesn’t need all those furbelows and trimmings to feel beautiful.

    • stephbellard

This woman is the REAL DEAL in so many ways. LOVE her.

    • jjtxgrrl

      Love her!!

But I kinda like her with emotion…..you know….like a real person. Obviously not her fault.

    • M. H. Leader

The thing that makes these ultra-effective is that they haven’t airbrushed all the personality out of her. Her skin isn’t perfect. Her hair isn’t perfect. But she is absolutely gorgeous in an intensely real way. She’s a real person. And I’d stop and stare too.

    • luluransom

      Well said, boys.

    • clairellis

She is so gorgeous that it’s ridiculous.

    • DominoEstella

      lovely

    • PeaceBang

This is kind of radical. She looks like a normal beautiful girl you’d see walking around in NYC with a Chanel bag and a charcoal jacket. No pinky-creamy palette as per usual with Chanel. Very interesting.

    • http://weirdinedgewise.blogspot.com ONEWEIRDWORD

I like that she looks her age; lovely

    • unbornfawn

      Love the clean face.

    • guest2visits

Gorgeous, looks like a young college student. I need a new coat!

    • Nonmercisansfacon

Drop dead gorgeous. WERQ it JLaw.

    • E2_Remote

She’s such a cutie. Love the moles and the messy hair.

    • http://www.facebook.com/outsidedog William Wilson

JL is cute, but she doesn’t give profile like Emma Watson….

    • Aurumgirl

Really good make-up, too. Can’t tell if it’s an ad for the clothes or the beauty lines, it’s so good.

    • Sara Brams-Miller

      I just adore her.

    • https://plus.google.com/108251075533777132179/posts Frank Lithium

Completely makeup-less? I doubt it, but she nonetheless looks gorgeous.
