Hilary Swank in Michael Kors at the 2013 Couture Council Fashion Visionary Awards

Posted on September 05, 2013

We were all set to put together a well-reasoned (if not downright bitchy) critique of her look, head to toe, because, well…we’re just so used to having a lot to criticize with her.

But y’know?

Hilary Swank attends the 2013 Couture Council Fashion Visionary Awards at David H. Koch Theater, Lincoln Center in New York City in a Michael Kors Resort 2014 dress paired with PhoenixRoze jewelry. Hilary Swank presented the Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion to Michael Kors at the event.

We think she got it pretty close to perfectly right here. Oh sure, the shape of the skirt’s a bit much for her and she’s not working those naked shoes all that well, but it all comes together quite well. Chic and pretty at the same time. We would’ve recommended something for her wrist and shoes with a little more coverage, but other than that, she nailed it. Attagirl.

Wow, girl’s in top shape! Love that dress!

    • Meg0GayGuys6

Not only is SHE in great shape, that’s a great shape for her! She has such an athletic body, it’s great to have a dress that gives her boobs, waist, and hips! Love this on her!

    • Getoverit

I would kill for her figure…only not exercise for it apparently 🙂 She looks awesome here.

    • Emily

Her waist is TINY. I’m jealous. I’d love to have a figure instead of the shape of a boy (no waist).

  • PlethoraofBooks

My OCD/CDO self twitches when patterened dresses don’t meet up where they are supposed to.

And she’s not gripping as badly as some of the other lady stars have before her. I guess I’ll say “Attagirl” myself in the wisdom of TLo.

  • kimmeister

I like the shape of the skirt, because anything too pencil-y in that fabric would have read 100% cougar.

  • Random Compliments

I hate that dress. She looks like a little girl playing dress-up.

    • Clueless_Jock

      … playing dress-up as a teal dalmatian…

      • ankali

…which is my new band name.

        • Meg0GayGuys6

Please include the whole thing, including both sets of ellipses. Now my favorite band names are:
          Hey, That’s My Bike
          … playing dress-up as a teal dalmatian…

          • ankali

I was just going with Teal Dalmatian. The full clause I think would be a great album title, though!

  • Jacqueline Wessel

I like this except for the boob pleats, which seem unnecessary and make the print go all wonky. She does look great here…such a tiny waist.

    • KateShouldBeWorking

Skinny bitch. I was all set to have ice cream for dinner.

      • wontons

I’m having ice cream for breakfast. Order up another bolt of that horrid turquoise cougar print for my version of the dress, s’il vous plait.

    • Aurumgirl

It’s the boob pleats that make her waist look so tiny.

  • Sobaika

This is a terrible dress. But she looks better than usual.

I need to learn the art of walking in a naked shoe. How does her foot not simply slide out?

    • StellaZafella

Willpower…and strong calves and ankles. You’re basically, literally walking barefoot on tippy toes.

      • Kristin McNamara

Which is even more astounding here, given that, in addition to the normal problems that naked shoes present, the straps around her ankles look to be insanely loose too!

    • MilaXX

Buy those anti slip shoe strips. It gives the foot something to grip.

  • mmebam

Am I the only one who wants to cut like 3 inches off her clutch?

    • decormaven

Nope! If it’s a clutch, it doesn’t need to be that size. Unless it doubles as a place to stash a fifth of liquor.

  • roadkill

baby pandas swimming in the sea

    • Adriana_Paula

That is the cutest thing I’ve ever heard. I’m plotzing.

    • Glam Dixie

Haha, I was just scrolling down to say that all I can see is panda bears, obviously I wasn’t the only one.

    • wontons

You’ve almost redeemed that print for me!

  • formerlyAnon

I’m ready for her to sport a more sophisticated hair cut, but guess she isn’t. She looks good.

    • E2_Remote

      Totally agree on the hair.

  • Tatiana Luján

I think this is the best I’ve seen her look. She looks really pretty.

  • Jacquelyn

I’m really into that dress! And I agree, some different shoes but mostly she looks bright and well put together.

  • conniemd

She finally wore something with clean and strong lines instead of trying fussy, frilly dresses. I’ve said this before, I think Hillary could be Tilda light if she put some butch attitude into her clothes. She should be wearing tailored lady pants and long coats. But this is an improveet.

    • formerlyAnon

      I think you’re right.

    • I don’t know… If I had those legs, I’d never want to cover them up.

  • Lilithcat

When I first looked at that, I thought it was a panda print!

  • carpediva

She looks soft & lovely, which isn’t usually in her wheelhouse. Best in ages.

  • flamingoNW

Oh, I like it. Was prepared for a scroll down hate. But no! I like.

  • GorgeousThings

Not loving the hair all that much, but that’s a minor nit. She looks great!

  • NoveltyRocker

That print is like trendy gift wrapping paper and the shape does seem a little too girlish for her. Love the shoes.

  • Monzerrat Ontiveros

am i the only one who thinks that this kind of shoes make feet look bigger??

  • Monzerrat Ontiveros

everytime i see her, i remind that episode of the office, when they were discussing if she was hot or not…

  • sagecreek

    She hired a stylist!

Don’t get me wrong, I hate animal prints, but this is so much better than anything she has done for years. YAY Hilary and your uncredited stylist!

  • Tanya Wade

If only not for the Spread-Toe, this would have been a WERQ. Great haircolor, best she’s looked in years. Ladystars, say no to Spread-Toe!

  • Rebecca Jay

Aww, Pebbles is all growed up. And she’s got great legs and hair!

  • Kate4queen

  • marlie

This looks really good on her. And her hair and makeup are super-flattering. Attagirl, indeed!

  • MilaXX

I have to commend her. Neutral nail/toes can work only if you have a clean mani/pedi situation. I think the entire look works here. Her hair looks great!

  • Diego!

GORGEOUS!!! I haven’t seen her so sporting a great dress + great hair & make up combo. Way to go Hilary! 😀

  • H2olovngrl

Man, those are some dainty little ankles! Seething with jealousy right now…

  • Qitkat

This is freaking adorable. Wonderful color for her.

  • Imasewsure

She looks good but a heftier shoe would have been better. Still this is MUCH better than usual for her!!

  • I’m getting “crumpled pandas” from a bunch of the larger black and white leopard style spots.

    • lobsterlen

      Yes I saw Pandas too.

  • abish

It’s just… she looks like a Barbie doll. And in a plasticky, unnaturally shiny kind of way.

  • elemspbee

  • gracedarling

She needs to take a look at Mariska Hargitay, hold her breath, and chop that hair off STAT. She’ll feel so much lighter once she does!

  • Little_Olive

I am not a fan of animal print and I am definitely not a fan of mock-animal print, but I gotta say, she looks great here. The J Aniston shoes don’t really bother me -actually anyone who can rock an ankle strap without instant cankles is a winner in my book.
The clutch bugs me, though. Too black and plain.

  • There are honestly few things I wouldn’t do for this dress.

  • quiltrx

If you had shown me this dress, and asked me if it would look good on Hilary, I would definitely have said no. Surprisingly it is a pretty flattering shape for her.

  • bertkeeter

That bust is giving her a uni-boob! It’s like jiffy pop …pleats opening up!

  • She looks great, but can she act?

    • terpsichory

I hope you’re being facetious. If not, please watch Boys Don’t Cry at your earliest convenience.

      • Excellent point. But her later work? Not so shining. One trick pony.

  • E2_Remote

While I’m not a fan of animal prints in general, the color and shape of that dress are super flattering on her. She also doesn’t seem to wear a lot of color, so this is really nice to see.

  • Erica_Vuitton

Something about the mix of leopard print and snake skin irks me in the close up pics but the overall look is very pretty. Love seeing that bright color on the RC so late in the summer. Agreed a bracelet was needed.

  • Aurumgirl

The dress certainly makes her look curvy, but I think the designer ought to have chosen a fabric with a pattern that’s a lot less difficult to cut properly. Also, it’s a small quibble, but a pedicure is always nice when you’re wearing shoes that cover so little of your feet.

  • Jitka Pavlíková

Is such a waist even possible without having a few ribs taken out? *envy envy envy*

  • bookish

    I want that dress!

  • wontons

Hate hate hate that fabric. I want to like this look, but the small criticisms of TLo–and the fabric–just won’t let me.

  • lobsterlen

Hilary looks great here. Whatever happened to her? I sort feel like she disappeared.

  • fauxprah

Is Michael Kors the new Talbots?

  • stephbellard

She should just walk around with her 2 Oscars all the time. Just to remind people why she’s relevant.

  • Dan_In_NYC

She looks cute. Also not a fan of the shoes, but solid effort. Attagirl, indeed.

  • LuisaNL

I agree, she looks lovely and chic. and I love love love the clutch and shoes. well done, hilary.

  • jw_ny

Hilary does look good here, and I’m one that is usually critical of her dressing too feminine for her her look/frame. This works for some reason. The seaming on bust of the dress tho…looks like she has a 3rd boob in the middle. O.o

  • dharmabum8

I can’t get behind anyone wearing teal animal print. ( Unless you happen to be a member of the band Teal Dalmation, of course. )
