Hervé Léger by Max Azria Spring 2014 Collection

Been there, done that. Mugler, Gaultier, the lap blanket Grandma made. As Nina would say, “I’ve seen this all before.”
I HATE the Gaultier knock-offs, but the Pucci knock-offs aren’t all so bad.
So true. This is a ho-hum collection.
I think it’s gorgeous, however reminiscent of other collections. Regardless, it’s impeccable, as Nina would ALSO say.
Overwrought with Versace levels of tacky.
I posted my comment before I realize that you wrote the exact same thing. It’s… pretty bad.
Overwrought was the first word that jumped into my mind as well!! There are actually a few that I liked — ninth from the top, a gray dress with black waistband, is quite stunning. Some of the geometrical dresses are quite pretty as well. But there’s mostly too much going on here.
Tortured and dated. Hate all of this.
I love the colors, and the use of the blocked-out shapes and patterns. It all manages to be flattering, if a bit busy. I’d call it reminiscent of Versace, but not at all tacky.
The “Real Housewives” collection. Not digging anything here.
Admire it, but can’t say I like it. Dismally, lacking the joy of the last couple of posted collections. Gonna go back and look at Monique Lhuillier again!
Some of the leather tops with zippers look like really, really high end clothing for nursing moms. Who got their figures back super fast.
I can see a lot of starlets gravitating to the body conscious shapes HL prefers but man, some of this is a bit much.
Hit or miss for me. I find the beginning too busy with the strips and zippers going every which way, then you get the black leather jacket which is fine except for the hip ruffle. The next few dresses are fine until you get to the leather peplum?superwide belt? and then you lose me again until the blue/white striped dress. The once the random fringe-y pieces come in I’m pretty much done. That said several pieces can be deconstructed and work. The pieces with the fringe-y bits can work if the tops are paired with simpler bottoms, the dresses with the giant WWF belts can work sans belt.
Despite my comment below, some of this does have some worth. The first half to two thirds is all very “Starlet or Streetwalker,” which is bad for anyone who gravitates to those outfits. When it gets into the colorblocking later on, I see a lot more worth and style there.
Take away the zippers in the first half and it would be a great improvement. The second half is classic Leger and I love it.
Some I’m all: Too Many Zippers. Some I’m all: those zippers are cool.
But on the whole, it’s just Too Much.
It’s an obvious kind of sexy, but it’s effective. Kardashian-bait basically.
I like some of it in idea if not in execution. I do feel like I’m not seeing anything new, though. I like the Balmain-ish pieces, but those leather corset-belts and all the zippers are REALLY distracting and not flattering. They also look like they would rub your skin raw in places.
There must have been a special on zippers at the fabric store.
Let’s focus on something positive: Did you get a picture with Grumpy Cat??? )
I saw it!
What? What are the magic words to find it? I saw them mention GC on Twitter and I got super-fuzzies at the thought of a picture but googling turned up nothing :/
P.S.: Thank you in advance
I saw their picture *of* Grumpy cat on their facebook page. *With* I have not seen. But have not been looking.
Thank you, m’dear, I am off in search of it ) I need a good smile.
More than half of those zippers should be edited out, IMHO
Interesting, but I would have ixnayed look #17- it looks like the pissed off Siamese Cat meme, look #22- which is nothing more than a dress form with style tape on it, and look #22- the ill-fated Xanadu Mall on Rt. 3. Lots of steampunk, and lots of zippers that were over and done 5 years ago. Yawn,
I can see Jennifer Lawrence looking amazing in #11.
Not made for real women.
Ick. A bit too dominatrix for my taste, but i can imagine some liking this collection.
Tacky tacky tacky.
Not a fan of the exposed zippers at all. The patchwork-y stuff down close to the end looks interesting and pretty on the models, but I’m not sure who’ll be able to work it in the real world.
Xena, Warrior Peplum.
Before I clicked on the link, I said, “Oh, the bandage dress guy?” Well, turns out he does bandage dresses…and the work of other designers.
first few are backward clothes – corsets over the dress.
WAY too derivative of Balmain, Stella McCartney, and few others…also, some of those look like that Project Runway final collection by Elena Slivnyak
I read the comment about “Balmain” as Batman, which is, apparently, what much of it looks like to me.
Derivative of Stella sounds like all in all awfulness.
After seeing a few outstanding collections, this just doesn’t cut the mustard. A couple of the dresses are nice, but damn, look at the saddlebags on that last dress. The black leather stuff is just, uh… silly?
Seems a little Versace-ish to me. Almost everything is over-wrought, particularly the ones with the leather belt/corset things.
Halfway down the page, there’s one humongous shape by itself. What’s with that?
I’ll bet this show got great reviews. I think the designs are beautiful but there are too many shapes within the shape for me. The work is detailed.
These clothes aren’t my cup of tea, but I love the white bathing suit.
It’s very “The Great Gatsby: The graphic novel.”
This is all smelling a little too “Hunger Games” to me. Not a fan (of this collection, or the books, for that matter.)
I see KStew all over this collection.
I like the last few dresses and a few of the window pane dresses in the middle but I always think this brand is cheap and tacky.
I think this is the hideous skirt convention they talked about in that movie.
Editing darling. Think about it.
How fashion forward … exposed zippers and zippers used for detailing.
I basically had a WTF face the entire time I was scrolling through this post. Do not like. And those dresses with the squares on them are going to look reaaaallllly bad on the wrong figure.
Totally agree about the squares. The lines aren’t even particularly flattering on models, so what hope do non-models have???
I should not have looked at this right after looking at the Monique L collection. In comparison, these just look trashy.
Well, at least its cohesive…
Random rows of upholstery fringing are not what I want from Herve Leger.
fussy and hard to wear
Some of it is fun and sexy- perfect “let’s hit the club” wear. Expect to see it on a lot of basketball wives. But those dresses with the hair color swatches attached to them are terrible, and the last dress managed to make a woman with like, 2 percent body fat, look lumpy, so no.
Some are Batgirl at Cocktail Hour but I think the prints redeem the collection. Those girls are bangin’.
Herve Leger… inspired by Jay. I love all those dresses in the middle – I’d like to buy them all. Does anyone have the name of a good liposuctionist, and a get-rich quick scheme?
Kristin Stewart will wear something from the black and white portion of this collection.
This is just Fifty Shades of Tacky. Yech,
Sci-fi gladiators in the future.
You’re all trying too hard, darling. Anyone who wears any of this will instantly be trying too hard.
I kind of want to see Katy Perry in the blue “dress form” dress, though. Trying too hard is kind of her schtick.
No. No no no no. Just no.
First half of the collection is just hideous. I really like the geometric second half with the squares and rectangles in the prints, though.
some of the prints are great but the shapes are aggressive and kind of ugly.
Those ‘magic picture’ patterns are making my eyes twitch. What am I supposed to be seeing in there? A boat? A picture of the Last Supper?
Clothes for the modern escort!
You know those hair dye charts that have those example pieces? Yeah.
So, models can’t eat anything, like, ever, huh? Better them than me, I say. Yikes.
Aggressively fug budget Versace.
Nothing breathes spring like black leather.
