Gwyneth Paltrow in Lanvin at the Thanks for Sharing Premiere

Posted on September 17, 2013

We suppose this all acceptable in a Gwynnie sort of way, although that lip color can be seen from space.

Gwyneth Paltrow attends the premiere of “Thanks for Sharing” in Hollywood, California in a Lanvin dress paired with Nicholas Kirkwood sandals.

Lanvin Resort 2014 Collection/Model: Julia Nobis

That’s a lot of makeup for her. It’s funny; we  were thinking this morning about how Naomie Harris seems to be taking her style cues from Gwyneth Paltrow, what with her predilection for the pin-straight center part, sheath dress, and clean-faced makeup, but here’s Gwynnie in a dirndl with Kristen Stewart’s last face applied to her. You just never can tell what a celebrity’s gonna do next, can you? Even Gwyneth.

Yeah, it’s a little too red. We can’t. We’re also really over the naked shoe trend.

    • Random Compliments

As much as her smugness bothers me, she looks gorgeous. WERQ.

    • Louise Bryan

I’m not crazy about the shape of the dress; it seems to be doing odd things to her torso. As for the makeup, the lip color’s bright, but everything else is understated, so I don’t think it’s a problem. Mostly she looks very nice here.

      • http://wipgirl.wordpress.com Kristel

I think that’s why the model is standing with her legs so wide – it gives it a better balance (or something…) from top to bottom.

        • Spicytomato1

I was thinking along the same lines. The wide stance looks cool editorially but could you imagine someone standing like that in real life? Funny.

    • Adriana_Paula

I like it, though I miss the pockets. And I’ll take naked shoes over bear traps or toe-less boots any day.

    • kimmeister

I don’t hate the lip color, I just wish it were a bit more matte.

    • demidaemon

I can’t either, but mostly because she looks so damn smug. Cut it out, GOOP. You aren’t reinventing the wheel here. My irrational (sometimes rational) hate of her may be tainting my response.

    • deelup

Maybe that’s goop on her lips?

    • MilaXX

I actually like the red lip. I’m also over the naked shoe, but overall this is a good look for her.

      • GillianHolroyd

I like the lip color as well; I think it’s the mascara/false eyelashes that are not working here.

        • MilaXX

Agreed, a red lip works best with a “cleaner” approach to the rest of the face.

      • kmk05

Her toes aren’t gripping on for dear life! I think they’re a great pair of shoes and in the right size, too. I do wish they were a little more delicate to counteract the heavy effect of the dress, if that makes any sense.

    • Adrianna Grężak

There’s a reason the model is standing with her legs apart – the dress looks much better that way!

      • alyce1213

        It probably looks good walking.

    • hughman

“A few weeks ago the family and I flew to China to eat homemade dim sum on the Great Wall. Little trips like that are one way I keep the children interested as an ordinary working mom. While the nannies were setting up our meal, I realized you could see the Great Wall from space and I thought, you know what else I bet the astronauts would love to see from space? My lips. When we got home, I immediately rang Francois and we whipped this up.”

      • d4divine

        LOL

      • largishbearishAtlish

Nannies are of course plural, we can’t imagine an ordinary working mom, such as Gwinnie, having but one.

        • e jerry powell

          Of course. She’s BRITISH!

      • quiltrx

        You rule Hughman!

      • Rand Ortega

        This wins the internet today!

      • Shawn EH

This reminds me of Ina Garten’s method of helpful tips, for example: “have a second dishwasher. It just makes cleaning up much quicker. Gives you more time to go pick those fresh herbs from your garden.”

        • KateShouldBeWorking

I don’t know if I prefer this to be a quote or satire.

    • NoveltyRocker

Those white teeth are just that much WHITER against all that red. Almost looks like a cutout of a toothpaste ad smile taped on her face. She looks very polished and simple as usual. Love the shoes.

      • filmcricket

I remember being advised that super-red lipstick tends to make your teeth look more yellow. So is she bleaching to beat the band, or was Seventeen magazine lying to me?

        • kmk05

Seventeen magazine was lying if they didn’t say ‘orange-based red’. Blue-based reds will make your teeth look whiter.

She is, however, bleaching to high heavens, but I’m guessing so is the entirety of Hollywood.

        • NoveltyRocker

She for sure whitens her teeth but somehow it’s that much more noticeable here. I thought it might be the brightness of that red but it could also just be that they’re crazy white to begin with and now have a red circle drawn around them pulling even more focus.

    • understateddiva

The makeup is questionable, but my first reaction was “gorgeous”, so I’d call it a win.

    • spooki C

All I can say is I need that lipstick in my life. Anyone have a clue what it is? (I can not believe I actually like something goop)

      • MilaXX

I don’t know wh’s she is wearing, but there are a lot of good reds out there. Tom Ford has some nice ones, MAC has some nice ones, including believe it or not, the Rhianna RiRi hearts collection. Even Revlon has some nice ones you can get at a drug store price.

        • spooki C

Oh I know, I have a ton of red lipsticks already. I just want this particular shade.

          • MilaXX

I feel you on that. Maybe try a few beauty blogs. If thy featured this photo they may know who’s lipstick she’s wearing. Popsugar is good for that.

    • E. D.

Hello sun damage. And the skirt is too long.

      • d4divine

I agree…take it up two inches GP

    • uprightcitizen

I’m with you on the shoe trend, but at least these fit her well, her feet are pretty, and it doesn’t look like she’s a bird clinging to the branch of a tree or that her toes are trying to escape in five different directions (the way so many celebuladies look in shoes like these). If you have to wear a barely-there shoe, this is how you do it … pick a pair with some interest and texture, make sure they fit, and that you have the right kind of feet to pull them off.

      • Imasewsure

Agreed. These are a rare example of how to make these shoes work well. Cool shoes too. Love the heel and even the strap which I usually hate

      • ankali

She does have very pretty feet. I imagine she bathes them in milk and moonlight, exfoliates them with pearl dust, and moisturizes them with frankincense and lanolin from the very softest and whitest of lambs.

        • decormaven

That’s my beauty routine as well, except mine calls for tincture of unicorn.

    • Jacquelyn

It’s too long in the skirt. And oh gosh, I am so with you on the naked shoes.

    • alyce1213

I likee the dress, but I love it with the pleasure me pockets, which give it a little more interest. Is the fabric piqué? I really like that.

    • GreenTurtle

I think she looks lovely. I’m getting major Kiki Dunst vibes from her fave in these pictures.

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

I must be tired. I have absolutely nothing snarky to say.

    • elemspbee

      Naked shoe. blech!
She managed to make an interesting, futuristic dress incredibly flat and lifeless. Like her hair.

    • Janet B

She traded in the red shoes for red lips.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

I like how she looks with a little color on her face. And those red lips are the only color she’s rockin so they don’t bother me. I think that dress requires that you stand with your feet far apart.

    • Monabel

I love that dress. One reason it looks better on the model is that the detail shows.

    • kim bunchalastnames

yeah, i’m thinking that lip color actually works for her.

    • SewingSiren

I think this is best she has ever looked.

      • Erica

Yep. She’s our smug Gwynnie, but she looks great here.

    • livesarah

I like the shoes and agree on the lip. I think I’d like it on someone else but not on Gwyneth. The dress is very her, but I agree with whoever said the bodice fit is poor.

    • random_poster

This is a great look for Gwyneth. Nothing underdone or overstated, including the lip. She looks nice.

    • quiltrx

      *snort* ‘Kristen Stewart’s last face’
      Love you, Uncles!!
(and, as usual, I hate Gwyneth)

    • largishbearishAtlish

She looks like she left the picnic basket in the car…er..limo. This looks like such a great ‘kids at the beach’ look, or sipping trendy beverages look. Seems just a bit casual for R/C…. Maybe a bangle or compact, something to dress it up a bit.

    • kikisayshi

Why is the dress so long on her? I definitely don’t like this at all.

    • filmcricket

I quite like this, although I wouldn’t mind seeing a necklace. The fit in the bodice is a bit wonky. And her version does have pockets, you just can’t see them in these pics.

    • Erica_Vuitton

I just can’t with this new dress/skirt length. I’m 5′ 3 no way in hell could I rock that and not look like a Hobbit. Love your shoes Goop but that is WAY too much blush.

    • nannypoo

She needs 10 inches off the hem and 3 inches off those scraggly ends.

    • ThaliaMenninger

Yeah, no. She looks like she’s wearing a club chair.

    • Imasewsure

I don’t like the shoes with that dress but I love the shoes. She even has beautiful feet (but what else would we expect from the “Most Beautiful Woman in the World!”)

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

this would be more interesting if she posed like the runway model. looks like she’s peeing in the woods.

    • Cheryl

I’m just jealous because I can’t wear a bright and or dark colour like that without getting some on my teeth, provoking vampire comments.

    • http://marshmallowjane.com/ marshmallowjane

I think she looks perfect, and I usually am critical of her. I gotta give it to her.

    • flamingoNW

I like the shoes but not wild about the dress. Yeah, too much make-up

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Hem that dress and never wear that lipstick again, dear.

    • VioletFem

the most interesting thing about this post is that Pink is apparently in this movie. In all seriousness, though, I actually find this dress quite beautiful although it looks like it should have been hemmed by a few centimeters for GOOP.

    • Tasha

What’s the difference between a strappy sandal and a naked shoe?

    • Fannie Wolston

She looks great, friendly even! Where does she hide her ink?

    • Claudia

I don’t really think much of her either way, but I think she looks quite beautiful here.

    • carnush

I love the dress and shoes. The makeup is a little jarring.

    • MartyBellerMask

All I can see is Josh Gad in the poster behind her. Man, he BUGS.

Oh, she looks pretty good I guess.

    • Chuck Barthelme

She does look pretty great, but with a plain white dress, she should have gone for a more statement making shoe. The red shoes the model is wearing are pretty awesome, even if they aren’t Gwyneth’s style. She could have found something better. And I agree on the naked shoe trend.

    • lobsterlen

Well we know “What Happened to Baby Jane?” Yikes Gwyneth those lips.
As naked shoes go I like these.

    • Lily-Rygh

In the model picture, this dress looks elegant and even a little dramatic. On Gwenneth, it just looks like one more boring white dress. How DOES she manage to do that?

    • procrastinatrice

I think she looks terrific. The crisp white looks good on her, the cut of the dress suits her style, and I love that red lip on her. She is rocking those shoes, too. Don’t see anything that bothers me here…apart from the fact that she is GP.

    • kategs

I want that dress, I want the pockets on that dress and those shoes are divine. I agree the red lip is a tad much but I think she looks stunning.

    • Sunraya

I don’t know why older women don’t understand two things:
      - eyeliner under your eyes makes you look like old, beat up and like a raccoon
      - bright lipstick makes you look like the Joker
I am 50, and since my early 40s, I always followed these rules. If I know them, why don’t these women?
      Fail for Gwinnie.

    • crash1212

She looks great. I love that dress and for a naked shoe, at least this one has some interest. I’m not mad at the lipstick – it’s bright, but I think it complements her skin tone.

    • Jessica O’Connell

I actually like those shoes. Don’t like her. Excited for that movie (mostly for Pink).

    • jspark

I’m not speaking about ALL naked shoes… but these shoes I love B-)

    • broke&fashionable

      Oooo I need these shoes.

    • marlie

Actually, this isn’t too bad for Gwynnie. I like the dress, though it could stand to be hemmed a little bit. And I really like the shoes. Plus, the makeup doesn’t seem that harsh to me – I don’t even mind the red lip.

Or, maybe I’m just feeling generous today.

    • rage_on_the_page

      I’m over that hem.

    • merciblahblah

I actually think this looks great on her, and LOVE those shoes. I even like the makeup, just not with this particular ensemble.

    • Dan_In_NYC

I’ll focus on the positives: excellent pedicure.

    • Leah Elzinga

aw, I love this, it’s just too much blush. Otherwise I think this is so pretty and chic.

    • Tracy_Flick

I’m unable to judge her impartially.

    • Shawn EH

She actually has cute feet, damn her. Should have gone with the model’s red shoes to match the lip, more fierce that way.

    • Belvane

I far prefer the naked foot trend to the clumpy bootie trend.

    • frannyprof

I see that her fear of wearing a bra continues…

    • bellafigura1

I think those shoes are fabulous, I’m good with this whole look, including the red lips. Good move to restyle the dress to have no pockets.

      • mhleta

Agreed. I’m crazy about the shoes, too and the red lips keep it from being too staid. Impeccable from top to toe.

    • R.A.

      “Dirndl” – *SNORT*

    • kolokOlchik

well, at least she’s aging naturally. that has to count for something
