Emmys 2013 IN or OUT: Kiernan Shipka in Delpozo

Posted on September 23, 2013

Oh, you adorable little fashionista, you. Taking risks and walking off the beaten path at your age. Brava, sweetie.

“Mad Men” star Kiernan Shipka attends the 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards held at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, California in a Delpozo dress paired with Jimmy Choo sandals and EF Collection ring.

Of course, here’s where you learn the lesson that it’s not called “taking risks” for nothing and when you take said risks, you leave yourself open to all kinds of judgment. So welcome to your judgment, darling! Today you are a woman.

There’s some slight disagreement ’round these parts. Lorenzo loves it wholeheartedly. Tom thinks the top and the bottom feel like a mashup of two different dresses; the classic Frankendress. Plus, there’s just a whole hell of a lot going on, all over this thing. It’s pretty in this faux-naive way that suits her really well, though. It’s just that Lo thinks it’s gorgeous and chic and T thinks it’s commendably different, if a little flawed. But the hair and makeup are pretty perfect and the shoes are a chic choice.

Kittens? Let’s hear it:

IN! Fashion Princess Chic! I am bowing down.

OUT! Oh, how cute! She fucked it up!

Emmy Rossum did not escape the thunderous judgment of the Bitter Kittens, who rendered a verdict of OUT on her Band-Aid ensemble.

I love it, and she looks so happy in it. And isn’t that important, too? It’s too young for anyone else.
Ms. Shipka, could you please teach other people how to dress?

    • carolie_king

IN, although I would have liked a Hello Kitty Bandaid on the ankle boo-boo.

    • understateddiva

      Team T on this one

    • Lilithcat

Borderline “in”. I agree it’s a bit of a mash-up, but, on the whole, she looks great.

    • solidcurrency

On anyone else I’d naysay, but she looks adorable and is pulling it off. IN.

    • Ma. Gabriella Dutari

That skirt is a little cray but she’s working and selling it! This is IN and she looks absolutely beautiful

    • Jacqueline Wessel

In…Yes, the dress has it’s problems, but it came that way. She’s got the attitude to make it work.

    • Fred Vaughn

If this little girl’s family can keep her grounded like alla that, we’ll still be interested when she’s 50! IN.

    • Danielle West

in. this is the age for her to still have some wacky fun with her fashion. and I think she looks adorable.

    • Veronica1022

I think the dress is adorable, but it does push the twee envelope. I am going to give the ensemble an in, however, since my 7 year old who spent a lot of the show asking if people on TV have mirrors, saw this outfit, gasped, clapped and asked for the same dress in her size.

    • KCF

      She def sells it. In.

    • Mariah J

IN I love her…never wax those eyebrows EVER

    • SRQkitten

      IN! totally adorable!

    • quiltrx

IN, but only because she looks so great AND has a scabby ankle. :)
It really does look like parts of two different dresses.

    • MaryAtRealityTea

IN – adorable, age-appropriate, and fun. Plus we can’t rag on kids, that’s just so mean!

    • Bethany Fairbrother

      Totally Cute!

    • elizabethcm

The dress is a CHOICE but she’s the only one who could pull it off and I love it.

    • Katherine Leay

I love the top half, i’m not that sure about the skirt, but still, is a very pretty gown, she looks pretty. IN.

    • amanda lynn

IN. i love it. princess chic.

    • Dave Fellner

      In, she looks very cute

    • ItsDicey

A bit of a frankendress, but it’s adorable and she’s pulling it off. IN

    • ankali

I think both T AND Lo are right — how is that? Anyway, IN. It’s definitely risky, but she is totally selling it for me.

    • samo_samo

      In. Love.

    • GTrain

IN. I think the model looks terrible in it. It looks a lot better on a girl Kiernan’s age.

    • lonepear

Super cute and fun, and she looks like she loves it. Definitely a dress for someone who hasn’t left her teens yet, and if I were her age I’d want it for myself.

    • altissima

IN! I love it. I think the dress looks ridiculous on the model, but Kiernan looks pretty, chic, well groomed, youthful and fun. Hair, makeup and shoes are gorgeous.

    • kerryev

I’m really surprised that TLo calls this a risk. I would despise it on a grown woman (except HBC? maybe?) but it almost seems like an obvious pick on Kiernan.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

The “over the shoulder” look completely sold me. Whatever the shortcomings of the dress, she is SELLING it like crazy with her obvious delight. IN, for sure.

    • Contralto

    • SorayaS

I don’t love the shoes or the hair but I think the dress and makeup are great!

    • Ana Ced

      this is perfect, 100% IN!!!

    • Reality TV Casting

      in in in

    • LauraAgain

Definitely an IN. This darling dress looks SO much better on Ms. Shipka than the model … and she’s really learning her RC moves and poses. Brava!

    • MDubz

Everything is great, but I especially love her EYEBROWS.

    • Kimi Colney

    • Notasaltine

She looks really cute, chic and age appropriate. This is the perfect dress for the actress who plays Sally Draper in Mad Men to wear at the Emmys. Indeed, this might be a dress that only she can wear, but she’s working it. IN.

    • mmebam

      I just can’t say no to her… #In

    • uneasyjd

LOVE. Delpozo is perfect for her – gold star to her stylist.

    • Kristobel

Oof. I do not like that skirt at all. But the overall look is sweet and age-appropriate, and she clearly loves it, so she gets an IN.

    • c8h10n4o2

I love it on her, especially with the razor nick on the ankle. IN!

    • irielle

In! It’s not my favorite gown, but it looks fresh and age appropriate on her. And she’s wearing the best accessory of all: a genuine looking smile. Also, I’m not a shoe person, but I really like these!

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

IN. I can’t help but find her entirely delightful.

    • berlinmama

Uh-uh. No. Looks like she walked through a field and flowers and junk stuck on her

    • CozyCat

I think it’s great that she’s wearing something that would be inappropriate on someone older. I’m a bit weary of the recent trend to push 13 year old’s as “fashion icons.” Fashion icons are idols that the rest of us are supposed to aspire to. And I don’t aspire to be a 13 yeasr old!

So, it’s refreshing to see someone her age simply being her age without trying to have an impact on the grown up fashion world. Enjoy it while you can, kiddo! Being a grownup is not as much fun as it looks….

    • ankali

Was totally with you up until that last assertion. Being a grownup is awesome, Kiernan! You can eat ice cream right out of the carton and stay up as late as you want!

    • CozyCat

Yes, but you’re usually staying up eating all that ice cream because the smooth talking, good looking guy you’ve been dating just broke your heart! :-)

But seriously, wouldn’t you like to have mom and dad covering the bills and keeping the fridge stocked again? And making sure that you have health insurance? And having daddy threaten the good looking smooth talker that he had better treat his little girl well?

Enjoy it while you can, Kiernan!

    • ankali

I have passed the awkward phase — also known as early/mid 20s — between adolescence and actual adulthood, so… no. I like covering my own bills & having a 401k, I have health insurance, and I eat ice cream because my lovely husband and I really enjoy it. Also, my dad’s attempts to intimidate my boyfriends were creepy and controlling, not endearing and cozy.

It would be nice if someone else did my grocery shopping and cooking, though. Maybe I’ll hire someone with my adult wages, or just eat as much takeout as I want because I can do that because I’m a grownup BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

    • Slanted & Enchanted

“That’s the ugliest effing skirt I have ever seen.” (I have this new theory that every line from Mean Girls is quotable.)

      Out for me too.
