Drew Barrymore in New York City

Posted on September 19, 2013

Oh, Drew. Why are you dressed like you live in a nursing home?

Drew Barrymore leaving a photo studio in New York City wearing a  Ted Baker London blouse and Sunday Somewhere sunglasses.

Thank God for those shoes, because they’re the only thing in this ensemble an 80-year-old wouldn’t wear. Oh, sweetie. We’re sad for you. You can do comfy without looking like you want your Snuggie. Let’s go shopping and figure out some chic mommy clothes for you.

I actually think she looks lovely. 🙁

    • Nicole C

Me too! I love her blouse, glasses and hair!

      • Katharina Ofelie

Agreed.. With skinny jeans she would have looked pretty good!

        • nowlo

I was thinking the same thing. Just switch out the sensible pants for a pencil skirt or jeans and she’d look even better.

    • Kate Andrews

Yeah — I think my only quibble is the pleats in the pants. I think she’s pregnant.

      • Erica

I think so, too. Too early to tell people, but you show sooner with the 2nd one.

        • NYCGlamourpuss

That’s what the speculation was on some other fan board – that she’s got Baby #2 in the oven. But really, I think she looks gorgeous – her hair, makeup, skin and shades are fabulous. The outfit’s not *great*, but if she’s pregs again, that would explain it.

    • marlie

Her hair and makeup are great. The top is cute, and I love the shoes. All she needs to do it switch out the pants.

  • Daisy Walker

I think those shoes are hiddy. I could get behind the top if she was wearing a pencil skirt and MUCH better shoes.

ETA: I just noticed the elastic at the wrists. Nevermind–I hate the whole thing.

    • BrooklynBomber

Haha. I like your revamp of the outfit; it would be better with less clunky shoes and a pencil skirt. Or jeans. But also the edit: the elasticized wrists are so wrong. And the neckline! Such a pretty print, though.

      • Daisy Walker

You’re right–jeans. It would still keep her boho vibe, but look modern.

        • Introspective

something slimmer on the bottom whether pencil skirt or skinny jean was just what i was coming on here to say that her outfit desperately needs…

clearly many of us BKs have great minds that think alike. or we are in fact fools that seldom differ.

    • Aurumgirl

It really is something I’ve seen older ladies wear. Right down to the black pleated pants with pumps. It’s way too old for her but these are very trendy pieces–it’s just weird that trendy is geriatric, right now.

  • Jacquelyn

Ever since you guys pointed it out, every time I see her I think of PR’s Karen and her pee-pee tent dress.

I think those shoes are kinda ugly.

  • Andrea Lentz

i think she looks fine, like a normal person.

    • charlotte

Especially after that Lindsay Lohan extravaganza (the fact that Drew’s been there, too, is giving me hope).

  • mjude

i love drew but i do not get this look at all.

  • alyce1213

I think it’s the big black pants that age the look. If the blouse were a dress — a knee-length shift maybe — it would be pretty and feminine. But she is absolutely gorgeous, waist up. Love her.

    • MilaXX

      that would help.

  • lobsterlen

Its those pants. The black plants don’t clash with the top but the certainly don’t go with the top. They are bringing the whole outfit down. If she went with more modern/stylish pants and not in black the top would look whole lot better.

    • Daisy Walker

Yeah, those are some major sofa/lounge/pj pants. I’m now thinking jeans might work better.

    • RebeccaKW

Agree, those pants are not working. I actually like the shirt and if she had on a pencil skirt or really snug pants or some jeans, I think it would work. Also, I don’t like the shoes, at least not here.

  • Alison Amundson

I think she looks gorgeous. Beautiful hair and makeup. I actually love the top, but the baggy black pants and clunky shoes don’t look good with it.

  • ccinnc

Take an inch or so off the heels, and an 80-year-old would wear them.

  • kmk05

Everything above the neck is FABOOLOUS. Her hair, especially! Those sunglasses are to die for.

    • Garcia Loca

      I agree — she’s sporting a beautiful head.

  • Tom Rosenberger

You guys are just mean spirited. How sad to be you. Just opinionated, no where near fabulous.

  • Anna Vasquez

As a woman in her early 30s, I find it impossible to have any reaction to Drew other than that I want to run up and hug her no matter what she’s wearing. She is the Celebrity Big Sister of my generation.

    • BrooklynBomber

As a woman old enough to be your mother, I feel the same way. She’s the adorable little child we first saw in “E.T.” who grew into her own unique beauty and remained as likable as when she first saw the alien and screamed her head off.

      • alyce1213

I have a really warm spot for her. What you said — plus she came through that insane childhood with her head on her shoulders, a career, a good marriage, motherhood. When I think what might have been . . .

      • Chickadeep

I’m in your camp…I saw her in E.T. when I was in college and I’ve always had this weirdly protective feeling for her. I heart her and cannot be objective.

  • MilaXX

yeesh! At least her hair looks good?

  • This might be a good time to deploy formal shorts.

    • Or Victoria Beckham’s gauchos from the other day.

      • Yeah – with some flat sandals would bring it back to her boho-y style.

      • DebbieLovesShoes

Ohmygosh, I just realized your picture is KEN from PR this year. That’s so funny!

  • Call me Bee

IDK…I kinda like it. It’s a little unbalanced, what with the heavy shoes and the light floral shirt, but I like the shirt.

  • BrooklynBomber

Maybe she’s retaining water and needed to pull from that part of her closet. It happens. And even though I don’t care for the outfit (pretty print but bad cut and wrong w/ the pants; clunky shoes), she still looks so pretty.

  • Little_Olive

It’s only the top+pants combination. Either one of them with a contrasting silhouette piece (skinny jeans/ a fitted top) would have made all the difference.
From the neck up she looks very, very pretty.
I don’t really care for the shoes.

  • I can see why vintage loving Drew is embracing the Granma Style. It suits her. She’s still doing it better than Dianna Agron, because it has her whimsical, tongue-in-cheek undertone. Carry on Drew, love the hair.

    • Garcia Loca

Good point. I could see her rocking a Gray Gardens look.

    • Imasewsure

Gotta disagree… Dianna bugs us because it’s so twee most of the time but at least she rocks a head to toe outfit each and every time. She’s the clear winner in the Drew vs. Dianna granny wars I think

  • Garcia Loca

I think she looks cute. Yeah, pairing black pants with pale tops is my pet peeve but the pieces themselves are not especially mature — I mean, the woman is in her mid-40s, mom, businesswoman. She’s not Poison Ivy anymore (OK, she’ll always be Poison Ivy to me!) And since she has a line at Walmart, she can’t be crazy-fashiony, not that she ever was.

    • (late thirties)

      • Garcia Loca

ha! She’s just been around forever, it seems like 🙂

  • Fanny_Trollope

Not to start any rumors, but I’m convinced she is pregnant and hasn’t announced yet.

    • filmcricket

      My exact thought.

      • decormaven

        Bet money on it.

  • bessann28

The hammertime pants are awful, but I actually like the rest. With a pair of skinny jeans, this would be a cute outfit.

    • Rhonda Shore

There’s that but the whole look is sort of shapeless. The colors of the blouse compliment her well, but the shape doesn’t..a sash at an angle might have helped.

  • Danielle

    Love her hair.

  • Judy_J

I quite like the fabric the blouse is made of. If only the designer had used it in a more youthful design.

  • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

If Drew doesn’t take you up on it, could I take her place? 😉

  • Janet B

Unfortunately the black pants don’t really go with her pretty top.

  • anotherkate

Does anyone know who makes the shoes? Those are damn cute.

  • All she needs is some skinny black pants, and this would be perfect. I am absolutely loving her hair right now.

  • crash1212

Love the sunglasses! There….I said something nice. Love Drew, don’t love the outfit.

  • LaSylphide

Agree about the pants, but everything else is good. She looks adorable, which is how Drew should always look.

  • Nancer

I love that printed top. So cute!

  • kategs

    coveting that top.

  • rage_on_the_page

It’s the pants, man. Are they polyester?

  • Ten Ten

Her hair also looks GREAT, and those shades are worthy of praise. Those pantalones gotta go, though.

  • Jackie4g

    I think she’s pregnant again.

    • mhleta

After the last few shots of her, I’m inclined to agree. In fact I’d put money on it.

      • J. Preposterice

  • YoungSally

My grandmother ROCKED heels with her pink sweatsuit – a classic one – not “designer” and (THANK GOD) not one that said “Juicy” anywhere – well into her 80s.

  • jspark

Love that lipstick. Think it’s from her new brand?

  • Angela Langdale

I love Drew to pieces, but somebody needs to remind her, she is a BARRYMORE (just look at that profile!), and she should represent that when in public, and not look like she pulled something out of the hamper…

  • Donna Tabor

I think she’s pregnant, too. The last photos of her made me suspicious; these confirm it.

    • Tracy_Flick

Yeah, it could be just the cut of the top, but that looks like the miserable first trimester awkwardness.

  • padma sallah

But she does look very pretty and on the whole, the outfit looks kind of comfy too. Yes, I would have appreciated a skinnier pair of paints but this works for me too.

  • Imasewsure

I could live with the shirt if she had some kickass skinny jeans on with them (maybe) but yes, overall she is going for the grandma (not) chic look here. Not good…

  • flamingoNW

The blouse is a pretty fabric. I LOVE those shoes. I could almost wear those if I hadn’t broken my leg this year…

  • tereliz

Too much volume in those pants to wear with this blouse. That said, she doesn’t look horrid, just stumpy and kind of “mature”. She’s giving great head though, lol. Love the hair, makeup and shades.

  • formerlyAnon

On board with the blouse, but the pants! Proof that pants of that cut don’t flatter anyone, though those who are long-of-leg can pull them off.

  • Meredith

IMO she’s cute enough to get away with this stuff. Totally. Sorry guys. I’m so partial.

  • Trickytrisha

This woman is so fricking blessed with good genes and the good looks that go with them. Lately it’s like she’s trying to do a switcheroo and be the “before” to her former self, the “after”. Uh, does that make any sense?

  • marlie

If she switched out the pants with a pair of skinny jeans, this outfit would work. It’s the pants that are destroying it.

  • Lilak

Neck up, Drew is just breathtaking . . . But even more than the tv lounge outfit, I’m questioning the overdone cheeks.
Please Drew, leave that to Bosworth and her recent ‘poupette’ affectation.

  • Mary_Shelley

She’s having a fat day (where she feels fat – b/c she certainly doesn’t look fat). I think we can all understand…

  • Lily-Rygh

She looks like she IS the nursing home!

  • I so wanted this to be an A line mini dress. What a disappointment.

  • Alloy Jane

Hair, makeup, and the shirt print are nice, but I’d have to agree she’s dressed like granny on the go.

  • Jen on the Edge

Between this and the last post about her, I’m starting to wonder if she’s pregnant and trying to hide the bump for a bit longer.

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

God damn, gurl, did Paz de la Huerta do your makeup?

  • sandradee

Isn’t she still breastfeeding? Because that totally warrants a loose-fitting top

  • macwell

This look is pretty inexcuseable. She should kind be ashamed…IJS…:(

  • librarygrrl64

    Yeah, I blame the pants.
