Dolce&Gabbana Spring 2014 Collection

Wow, this is kind of all over the place, isn’t it?
It is all over the place. Some of it is….good? some of it is wut?
Exactly that – some is good, some is – well – questionable.
Agreed. I like some of the shapes and colors and then there is some hideous black lace thing.
Clearly a continuation of the menswear line, even down to the prints on some of the more casual pieces.
I really preferred their byzantine inspired collection; that was gorgeous and seemed much more cohesive.
So sick of the black lace.
Love the black & white poka dot pieces.
Glad to see polka dots will make it to the next season. I love me some dots.
Unless one lives in Kamchatka, I cannot imagine anyone being interested in wearing fake fur in Spring. This collection is not one. Its a pretty insane mish mash of ideas that do not cohere at all.

I don’t know why they had to slaughter so many muppets for the show. At least the red coats make me forget the tragic loss of Snuffleupagus, Grover, and Elmo.
Typical D&G–but I kind of love all of it. Guilty as charged!! I would definitely rock the GIANT ROMAN COIN belt.

HOLY GOLD COIN, BATMAN!
As TLo rightly pointed out, their last few collections have been little more than Sicilian War Widow. This one screams Rome, which is all about the clash of Romance! Antiquity! Modernism! It is still dripping with Italian drama, but I kind of love it. It would be nice to see celebs rocking some of these more colorful, dramatic pieces than the expected nonsense we’ve been getting.
I was thinking of Sophia Loren and Gina Lollobrigida (or Gina Loadabricks as Fred Flintstone referred to her) in many of these simpler “widows weeds.” Not modern necessarily but kind of timeless Italian style

Meh, not loving this. It’s a bit too much going on. I can pick out maybe 10% of this collection that I would be interested in seeing on anyone. Those two black dresses, the red polka dot, the black polka dot and maybe a piece here & there.
The reds in this collection are to DIE. But the gold coin belt thing…fashion malpractice.
This is so hard for me to look at. I appreciated it when the Italian Grandmas came out because then I could at least focus on something.

I like the Iron Man dresses.
I’m not sure I’m fond of the shapes of this collection, but I do kinda dig the color palette of the golds and browns–kind of reminds me of Renaissance paintings. Some of the other stuff seems a bit tacked on and the collection loses its cohesiveness.
LOVE the polka dots dresses and that gorgeous green floral. I appreciate the artistry of the others, but those really caught my eye. Bless them for bringing the sweetheart neckline back. My bras thank you.
this collection is wearable and yet it has this coutury feeling about it. Mr Dolce and Mr Gabbana do stay true to themselves. The editing is great and the choice of prints is also amazing. Did you see the menswear collection, the prints are cohesive. All over the place? I think not. This collection is amazing. very wearable.
Yet somehow the crossover elements in this collection make more sense here than they do on the men.
or Mr Dolce and Mr Gabbana were run out of ideas and they just say *italian accent “Why dont we just put the mens on the womens?” I mean, shirts. ANd voila! it looks nicer. LOL.
Judging from their brand history, I’d guess that that’s probably their entire design philosophy. Except for dresses and stuff.

Some of these are so amazing, but they really need to start designing pants. We’re not all Lena Dunham.
For some reason, this is screaming “Selena Gomez” to me. I don’t mean that in a bad way at all. I think she’d make some of those Italian widow’s weeds sing.

The red fringe first look is really fun, but so much of this collection feels very derivative of other designers, particularly with the Versace coins/medallions
Part of me wishes the designers would go back to what they do best — extremely well tailored, sexy, Italian widow dresses and suits. They do them better than almost any designer….and having owned one…they are beautifully built.

The first look is like a weightlifting belt slapped onto a pipe cleaner.
I like the idea of coin and column prints, but think they work better rendered in smaller print. Most of the polka dot pieces are fabulous.
This is what Sophia Petrillo’s closet would have been if she were a fashionista in her youth.
There’s such a late 50′s/early 60′s feel to this collection but for me its uninspired. The dresses are perfectly acceptable (for the most part) but, imho, not really modern or forward-thinking. Perhaps that is the D&G charm?
I don’t see much change in terms of D&G style, but I think 95% of the pieces are simply lovely!

Love all the colors and the solid through-line of Ancient Greek tropes combining with some really lady-like coats and skirts. Some of it’s cheesy and theatrical but I see pieces that can be tamed for the everyday and push that concept. Maybe it’s just my fondness for antiquity but I would get out of my comfort zone and wear the crap out of the printed tops and show some corny ancient ruins love. LOVEing so many of these shoes.
Did they license out desig to Versace while the boys are behind bars?

I love the red cherry blossom print coat and the red polka dot dress. I think I really like that shade of red.
Love the red polka dot dress at the end but everything else feels like same ole same ole in different fabrics. And that green chartreuse dress reminds me of Nicole Kidman’s Dior circa 1997.
When the dress makes the model uglier… you have a problem.
It’s interesting, if a little over-embellished at times. The widow weeds and granny panty looks (and those that combine both–eek) need to die, though.
As many others have said–this is kind of a frenetic mess, isn’t it? Most of the looks fall into “too much” to my eyes.
What I do like: some of the flower-embellished pieces, some of the smaller-sized polka dot looks, and I LOVE the giant black/white polka dots.

There are some very wearable and almost plain pieces mixed in with all the cray.
Those big belts look like WWE Championship Wrestling belts.

The coin belts and foofaraw are pissing me off. The little black dress with the squared off scoop neckline should come in plus sizes, because I would look amazing in that, if I have to be honest. And then the red cherry blossom coat with the cherry red fur high collar fantastic. Other than that, it is all over the place, as Nancer said.
That red cherry blossom coat is a stunner, isn’t it? If you gave it to me I have literally nowhere to wear it that I wouldn’t look ridiculous, but I’d wear it out anyway.
(ETA: This line of thinking may be why so many photos of myself during the ’80s have had to mysteriously disappear. Maybe.)
There’s a modicum of gorgeous stuff here if you can adjust your eyes to block out all the visual “noise”, but some of the “noisier” ones are so over the top that they’re distracting. It would be much easier to appreciate them if they weren’t in rows of three – I know there are too many to present that way, though.
I like some of the individual pieces a lot. Apparently Roman ruins have replaced medieval faces. But D & G went super heavy on the apparent recent trend of unflattering bell shaped tops and dresses with no waist and really wide bottoms. I really dislike that silohuette, too shapeless.
What an odd mixture of ideas, colors, and shapes. Some of those shapes remind me of the 50s, all boxy. Some of those colors, well, I just don’t know. You have Roman coins, and then a cute red dress with black dots. Oh, and it’s fall 2013 and we still have black, sheer lace dresses. When, oh when will it be over?
Well this was my hilarious for the day. So our theme was The Glory That Was Rome with a few muppet fur wearing Visgoths thrown into the mix? And then even that idea petered out and we went to polka dots? Because that’s what I’m seeing here.
“we’re in the money”. You had me with the red spikey sparkley dress, but then you lost me with the crazy prints. And PLEASE when will the transparent over granny pants trend end? Please make it stop!
so disjointed and it still Italian redux that the two keep showing season after season. Something tells me they are out of love for fashion, completely uninspired, or the business side is starting to falter (hence disjointedness and continual Italian theme). Their D&G collection closed about two+ years ago, so I am wondering if the main brand isn’t faltering.
Hmm. Not loving most of it, certainly not the pro-wrestling coin belts (or are those cigar wrappers?) or the bras-and-slips-as-clothes combos. I like some of the dotted dresses, though, and that black dress with the sweet-heart neckline. And a lot of the coats are fun.
There are a few really stunning individual pieces in this collection, but taken as a whole, it just feels really overwhelming…
Not terribly consistent, and the coin prints are hideous, but some very lovely pieces. They certainly know their clients.
This makes much, much more sense to me than the Prada show. Like. Want quite a few of these (especially the polka-dot and black dresses).
As a collection, it elicits the criticisms already discussed. But there’s something that startles me about the individual pieces, namely that everything I don’t hate I wholeheartedly love: the red polka-dot dress, many of the pieces that subtly slip in a controversial coin for the polka dot, the tailored black dresses, the patterned gold ombre dress with the cap cleeves, most of the accessories, even the embellished floral things that could sing on the right young ladystar. That’s a lot of covetous appreciation for a collection I’m not crazy about.
Bonus: I’d love to see Diana Agron in disturbingly many of these, not all of which I even like—and I have no idea why!
Cannot stand the [over large] scale of some of those prints. There are several lovely and moderately sedate suits, coats and dresses mixed in with the overwrought and ugly.

I’m happy to see these purses/bags that are a normal size – after years of the suitcase size favored on runways.
The collection is a very Vegas interpretation of world travel, but I would kill for that red coat with the cherry blossoms.
D&G i usually love you, but his time, no. i’ll just take the black and white polka-dot pencil skirt and the red and black polka-dot dress and be on my way.

Those giant gold Versace-like wrestler’s belts and medallions almost destroy everything they’re with. Other than that – a lot of beautiful, textured fabrics, interesting combinations and a handful of dresses and suits that i love.
Love these, so many could fit Any Body Type , Thank you B-)
