Dakota Fanning in Elie Saab Couture at the Night Moves Premiere

Posted on September 03, 2013

It’s amazing what a little contrast can do for her.

Dakota Fanning attends the premiere of “Night Moves” during the 2013 Venice International Film Festival in an Elie Saab couture gown paired with a Rona Pfeiffer cocktail ring.

Elie Saab Fall 2013 Couture Collection

The makeup looks a little off to us, but the dress is perfection on her.  That is so her color.

It may have been time to try something other than the pin-straight center part, however. That gown deserved better hair than this.

  • Lovely.

  • sugarkane105

My God, it’s like she totally grew up just in this one set of pictures. She looks great. I’ll forgive the sideboob.

    • Lucía Gavello

She looks very pretty, I don’t know If I’m ready for Dakota Fanning sideboob action though.

  • Latin Buddy

She looks like Kate hudson’s baby sister

    • charlotte

Better than what I thought…Lindsay Lohan.

  • Sara Brams-Miller

    • marlie

It doesn’t make my eye twitch this time.

      • demidaemon

It’s interesting, because I feel entirely differently.

I must be having an opposite day compared to everyone else.

        • AnneElliot

I agree completely. That beautiful skirt is ruined by a too-naked top. It’s distracting.

        • marlie

I think it would have been made a LOT better if she’d stood up straight. As it is, it can look like the sideboob is an accidental fit issue due in part to the way that she’s standing.

          • demidaemon

Intriguing. I didn’t consider that. But doesn’t she usually have the same posture? I’m wondering if it works for her other style choices but for a pretty traditional gown it causes fit/boobage issues.

          • marlie

Yeah, she always stands like that. And it always makes me yell “stand up straight, young lady!” the way that my mom (still) tells to me.

  • Trisha26

The gown is lovely but the bodice is just too small for her. I would actually like to see this reversed with coverage in the front and a V-back.

    • Linda LaPaz

I was going to ask if she had it on backwards!

    • Aurumgirl

That would make this dress 100% better.

    • YES!! Brilliant idea. That V-neck is just too naked……that expanse of skin pulls attention away from everything else. You should be her stylist, Trisha. Bravo!

  • Sobaika

    Blotting papers, girl.

  • Kate

So many yeses! Considering her normal street look, this girl is rocking this dress!

  • Monzerrat Ontiveros

WERQ: Modern and chic, also age appropiate

  • Hermione

I think she looks droopy and dowdy. Also, too much dress for her, literally and figuratively? Maybe it’s her hair, which I think is tragic.

    • Kristin McNamara

But but but!!!! NO ROOTS!!!! I’m about ready to dole out a “HELL YEA” just for appearing in public with her roots touched up!!

  • Nancer

Sorry, guys, that is way too much side boob. Although everything else is working, I just think a little more coverage would be more flattering.

    • majorbedhead

Totally agree with you. It’s a lovely dress, but it’s too revealing.

  • elirt

The make-up is terrible. Looks lacquered on like one of those pageant kids.

  • filmcricket

It’s clearly hot as balls in Venice this week.

I love the colour for her, but agree with others that she needs a bit more coverage in the underarm area.

    • Yes – I feel like you can have inside boob or outside boob but you really can’t have simultaneous sideboobs.

      • jayme

She doesn’t have the kind of boobs that drop together though, so there really is pretty nonexistence cleavage in the centre.
I think she looks fabulous, adult, and young. About time, too.

  • BeeBeauNYC

I love the Drew Barrymore face she is giving in the close up photo. Agreed, the hair is flat out disappointing.

    • Rhonda Shore

How can she not have a decent hairdresser who has heard of lowlights?

    • AnneElliot

In a dress like that, your hair should only look that bad IN THE DRESSING ROOM. How can someone not put in the effort for the red carpet? Disgraceful.

  • Sarah

I kind of feel like I should be arrested for looking at this child’s side boob. But I googled her and she is 19, so I guess it’s okay…? Still makes me feel dirty.

    • demidaemon

Same here. Same here. She seems too young for this, although the model is probably around her age as well. But she has no chest to cover either, so…

    • harlowish

I immediately ran to Wikipedia after seeing that first picture to find out if she’s old enough for a dress like this. I think different hair and makeup would have made it seem more appropriate.

  • marlie

She looks stunning in this dress. Just beautiful. A more formal ‘do and makeup would have been better, but I still think she’s knocking this one out of the park. And that cocktail ring! I die.

    • Qitkat

That ring is so gorgeous. The dress color is amazing on her. I just don’t understand how this plunging style moved from “Adult Video Awards” to mainstream International Film Festival over the past few years.

      • I’ve actually thought about this. I think it’s because super large, usually enhanced, boobs are falling out of fashion favor. We are seeing a return to the natural, smaller breast and therefore peek-a-boob is the new sexy.

        • marlie

One of my friends just recently asked me “what’s this I’ve been hearing about ‘sideboob’ lately?” I guess it’s become the new, standard, “decolletage,” and is no longer tacky (when deployed correctly, as with Miss Fanning here).

  • Chuck Barthelme

Wow, she looks amazing. The only thing I don’t like is feeling like a dirty old man looking at the pictures.

  • Julie Chase

    What a gorgeous dress.

  • demidaemon

I like this, but I don’t particularly like the amount of boobage on display. It’s…awkward. Unflattering? It also makes you notice just how flat-chested the model is. Which is really, really weird.

She looks stunning. I just wish there was a little more fabric coverage in the bodice.

    • charlotte

There is no side view of the model, so I don’t really see what you’re (not) seeing.

  • aahlife

In danger of sounding like a prude, I think the plunging neckline is inappropriate and instead of looking at her, one focuses on her chest and breasts. With her surfer hair she looks like a teen who was placed in a dress that she is too young for.

  • imakeart

Sorry guys…that dress is beautiful, but it does not fit her!

  • More polished hair, a slightly stronger lip color and we would be in WERQ territory.

    • Getoverit

Definitely needs to do something different with the hair.

  • sekushinonyanko

I’ve never seen her with a dress so skimpy on top. I think a bit more coverage might have been nice, since it’s hard not to think of her having to peel the dress off on top since it’s undoubtedly taped on. But I do love the color on her. I hope it becomes a trend for her to avoid things that are the color of her skin and/or hair.

  • Belvane

That’s way too much gorgeous gown for a very young woman who won’t wear statement jewelry. This dress needs an updo, some earrings, a necklace, something other than just getting out of the shower and throwing it on. Pass this dress over to Kate Winslet or some other blue-eyed beauty.

  • PastryGoddess

I’m really jealous of that 19 year old skin she’s sporting

  • bertkeeter

Gorgeous gown…tad too big on top and it needed front hem shortened a bit so she wouldn’t need to hold the sides! Please learn to walk in a gown BEFORE you get on RC!

  • HM3

Far too much sideboob for her age…and, I would argue, for most starlets of any age. Beautiful otherwise.

  • MilaXX

Baby steps I guess. The roots are done, the dress is in a color besides old bra #48 & she has a bit of color to her makeup. Still she looks like the bridesmaid in my cousin’s wedding.

  • BarniClaw

This + Olivia = too much sternum for me for one day. Icky.

  • Judy_J

Not enough fabric in the bodice. Do we really need to see sideboob? One of her handlers should have brought along some blotting paper for that shiny face.

  • Loola234

Her make-up looks good/fine in the close-ups – but for the distance shots, she needs more color, mainly in her lips. I like the eyes a lot…

  • susan6

Love the color, but the cut of the neckline makes her boobs look like they’re sagging.

  • Little_Olive

It’s a fantastic dress, and that is pulling all the weight here. The makeup is too fat and shiny, the dress “straps” are 1 inch too low, the antique gold rings don’t go with the sparkle and depth of the dress and, as TLo said, the look called for a better hair.
Sorry, D. Put a bit of personal effort into it next time.

    • MilaXX

One of her handlers needs to tell her there are other hair styles besides, straight and flat.

  • Miss WKS

Nope. She has no idea what to do in that dress. She looks neither elegant or comfortable. She has not the years or experience to pull that gown off.

    • GillianHolroyd

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes.

      Too much dress for her.

  • valerie saenz

In these photos, Dakota closely resembles a much younger Kate Hudson.

  • Laurie Landry

    That hair deserves better hair!

  • Janet B

    Perfection, from the neck down.

  • SewingSiren

Absolutely stunning. She is a very pretty girl and this is the prettiest I have ever seen her.

  • Rachael

I want that dress!!! And her make-up queens need to get her some blotting papers ASAP!

  • Qitkat

I think a question some of these baby starlets might ask themselves is this: Would a 19-year-old Grace Kelly, or Audrey Hepburn, or Ingrid Bergman, or Natalie Wood, or Elizabeth Taylor have worn a dress so revealing from three out of four angles? Where do you want your career to go? Would you like to be included someday when people list their favorite, classiest actresses, known for serious careers?

    • sagecreek

I love you, and I would like to wash your car.

      • Qitkat

Aww, thanks, and it really needs it too 🙂

    • omg_dora

Elizabeth Taylor definitely would have. 🙂 And I don’t think some skin showing in a very couture-ish gown is going to make Fanning less of an actress or even make people think of her as less of an actress. If anything, she has the opposite problem, of people thinking of her as a child.

      • Qitkat

Ohh, I know, I’m just one of the *get off my lawn* *between 40 and death* types on here 😉

  • nannypoo

This is beautiful, but I confess I’m not ready for Dakota with sideboob. Our little girl is all grown up.

  • Terri Terri

    • sagecreek

Thank God. I find myself screaming that about 4x a week. Glad I’m not alone.

    • LostInThrace

Truth. The dress is lovely, hair is boring, make up is nice, but obviously melting off of her face, but the whole look would be vastly improved if she would STAND UP STRAIGHT. Such a pet peeve.

  • turtleemily

IDK, I think the proportions are off. Too much skirt and then the V is too wide and too deep. It makes me think of Cupcake Dolls.

  • Janice Bartels

    Her skin is amazing.

  • Imasewsure

Dress lovely and perfect for her… everything else I do not like

  • That is absolutely her color and the dress is stunning, but the bodice should be better fitted. 19 year-olds should not look droopy on the RC.

  • Trickytrisha

That is a glorious gown that deserves a wearer who can do it justice. She’s chosen to go casual with her hair and styling, which ruins the impact. Also, sweetie, learn facial expressions for the pole dance. I guess she thought the dress was enough to get her through, and it nearly is.

  • elemspbee

Wow. This is so not her dress. She has to wear her shoulders up to her ears to hold this up. It’s a stunning dress but she looks like a little girl pretending to wear grown up clothes. Total miss.

    • Pennymac

Right? Not to be trite, but a perfect example of “the dress wearing her.”

  • andi56

Oh, no. It’s just all wrong to me. it’s saying, “I’m going to play dress-up like a real grown-up, and you can’t stop me!” Worse of all, she’s not owning this look at all. It goes without saying, so I’ll say it: the hair is a disaster.

  • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

That gown deserves a better HEAD than that. I don’t understand why she’s so afraid of makeup.

  • Louise Bryan

Just curious; who’s the face at exactly boob level? It’s a pretty dress, but it seems a little much, like she’s playing dress-up with Mom’s ballgown. I half expect her to be wearing shoes 5 sizes too big.

  • willworktomorrow

Is it the makeup that’s making her look like a 30-something who’s had cosmetic surgery? Because that’s so strange.

  • rosie5215

The proportions of the dress don’t work with her body: she has a long torso and short legs, and with the deep V on the bodice, this is a dress for a very, very tall person.

  • CT14

I love the color on her, but hate the side boob.

  • lilyvonschtupp

She looks like a little girl in grownup clothes. But I like the color and LOVE that sapphire ring!

  • Honey, go home and put your bra on. You look ridiculous!

  • Putting couture on a teen-ager makes me cry. Great dress. Great color. She couldn’t put a little effort in on the hair and make-up front? Seriously, her hair is stupid. weeping, weeping….

  • Lilak

Absolutely beautiful gown (glorious color!), but needs someone with a longer torso and better posture in it.

(Not to mention the almost offensively lazy hair)

  • quiltrx

I hope she didn’t break out from the (undoubtedly several feet of) doublestick tape! Pretty but the bodice is too revealing, even for a more mature star. Enjoy that beautiful skin while you have it, though!

  • Jacquelyn

Her hair looks like it was an afterthought. That gown is gorgeous with her skin but I’m getting a little too much side boob. LOVE that ring she’s wearing.

  • MzzPants

In my head, I’d been saving this dress for Kirstin Dunst, but have to admit that it’s great for Ms. Fanning. Love the color.

  • Akmall Razlan

Well, I’d prefer Elle Fanning, Dakota? hurm… she shines but her sister shines brighter than her.

  • Michelle Wilson

    She looks absolutely stunning.

  • formerlyAnon

Not quite enough coverage above the waist for my antiquated tastes, but overall it works beautifully and that skirt is amazing.

  • ♕ Natalie ♕

hated this. this dress deserves better hair and a better person. she has no sense of style whatsoever.

  • Dagney

Okay, big mega gowns do not go with cheerleader hair. What stylist is getting paid to offer her this advice?

  • E. D.

Would be a WERQ with better hair.

  • Diego!

I love it!!! I agree with the make up, but this Disney’s Princess kinda like dress suits her like a glove and looks great on her! 🙂

  • BKagainwiththesweatpants

    Shiny face: MY EYES!
    Side boob: NAY!
Dress: Gorgeous. Just not her dress.

  • LuisaNL

That hair makes me sad. What a shame, that dress is and looks amazing on her.

  • greyhoundgirl

“it’s amazing what a little contrast can do for her”. And it’s amazing what a little tape can do for her. (as in holding her top on)

  • Lucas

Yeah, the hair could have made a huge difference in the overall look. Oh well, the dress still looks lovely on her.

  • LauraAgain

No. She doesn’t have the breasts to carry this off. It makes her look bottom-heavy. The color, however, is very pretty.

  • housefulofboys

The dress is so lovely and it’s great to see her in a color! I just wish she had shortened the straps an inch or two, it would have made the proportions work better to my eye.

  • broke&fashionable

It saddens me that I will never wear something this fabulous. She looks amazing.

  • NinjaCate

Love the dress. But Dakota is odd for me. She still reads so young, and yet her style is evolving. Maybe she really does just need to do away with the centre part business.

  • Sadie-Ann

I wish the top had just a little more material to it. It’s not even the sideboob that’s bugging me, it just feels off balance with the huge skirt.

  • omg_dora

Eh. The gown is beautiful, but with her hair and her makeup this way and almost no jewelry, she looks like she’s just trying the gown on in the middle of a sweaty workday.

  • mightbewrong

There’s issues but I’m biased towards pale skin/navy dress 100% of the time. It looks amazing.

  • Katie

She looks great, but in the action shots, it looks like that is too much skirt for her.
