Christian Siriano Spring 2014 Collection

Posted on September 08, 2013

Inspired by a trip he took to Isla Mujeres, Christian Siriano’s spring 2014 collection represents another step forward in the designer’s evolution. You’d think he’d save the bold florals and raffia pieces for his next resort collection, but he must have really been feeling it, because this collection is direct and highly focused. Like he really had a need to say something as a designer. We’re loving the florals and the wide range of looks, as well as the gloriously bold colors.

I LOVE this collection. The colors and prints are beautiful, and there are several really outstanding pieces. I’m SO impressed by Siriano’s evolution over the years!

      • Akmall Razlan

I too love this collection, its bold and yet, commercial to be worn by so many women.

    • Jacquelyn

      Wow. Lovely.

I really love that yellow dress. A lot.

Also, digging the lacey dress that is just below the knees.

      • Akmall Razlan

me too! that yellow dress! love it!

    • Mich

Love the short orange dress!! His stuff is fabulous!

      • Mary_Shelley

I thought the same. It may even inspire me to finally lose that extra 20…

    • Pennymac

#13, the lime green with the multi? WANT!

    • MilaXX

Very pretty! Loving the opening florals, them the gray/white & black/white stripes. Also feeling that beige-y sort of lace dress inn the middle and that mint green dress with the floral appliques. It’s all very feminine and lovely.

    • Akmall Razlan

Love this collection, its more applicable and yet very couture, there are a few pieces that, “seen that, and done that” by Siriano and still there are more very amazing pieces, yes, I love it. That Yellow dresses (pants and tops) are amazing! love it! This is the best so far from him. Love it.

    • zelavie

Why do some of the shoes have cocker spaniel ears?

      • LaurieRoz

Should have read all the comments before I posted the same thing! Although I thought the pair in the first photo were more droopy poodle…

    • Alison Sohmer

      LOVE! BUYING!!

    • mhleta

He could have edited out a few of these pieces. The white skirt and top in the third panel is a throw away; the dress with the block pattern, mint top and the vest doesn’t really fit in; and I’m not personally a fan of the mint colored pieces. Otherwise, a really exciting collection. I especially love the turquoise and the coral pieces and wish he’d done more in the turquoise fabric.

Just stunning. I love his vision. He never fails to impress me. Christian is, by far, the best thing to come out of Project Runway.

      • majorbedhead

Totally agree. He seems to have done the best out of all of them.

    • NMMagpie

That long sleeved sheath dress is to die for. Must have.

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

I love it! My five yr old loves it! It’s so feminine and ethereal without being to fairy like. Simply lovely.

    • Nancer

      Beautiful!

    • Aidan B

There is so much to like here!! I feel like there are looks here for different age groups and they’re all elegant, well-made and flattering. Well-done, Christian!

    • Janice Bartels

I love so many of these looks!

    • Patrick Cleary

Wow. He’s really THE Project Runway success story, isn’t he? Just a spectacular collection.

    • Ms_Flyover

It almost seems like PPS has moved away from McQueen and moved towards Marchesa in terms of style, but its both interesting and commercial. I’m imagining Mia Wasikowska in a few of them.

    • MmmmmmmmK

Absolutely stunning, and they just kept coming. The phrase “each more beautiful than the last” comes to mind, and works starting at the bottom or the top.

    • Glam Dixie

Bold and beautiful and as usual, I want his shoes!

    • C2inCT

I DO see the Isla in this. It’s lovely, feminine, bold, flowery, shimmery–like Isla Mujeres. Add some fanny packs and he can get the touristy along with it!

    • Lizzy

Love this. Love that he understands that sexy does NOT equal skin. Wonderful

    • BookishBren

Oh, wow. Love, love, love so much of this. Many of the pieces could be worn by a lot of body types and larger sizes. Love him for making something stylish but flattering to so many sizes!

    • Laurie Landry

Lovely, breezy, feminine collection. The colors and silhouettes are so pretty.

    • HobbitGirl

Oh, for a Project Runway designer with talent again. I haven’t watched in a couple of years, but judging from what I read here, there hasn’t been a contestant of Christian’s caliber in awhile.

    • LaSylphide

Beautiful and wearable. Love almost everything. A lot of Future RC looks.

    • DamH

      WOW.

    • LJCdoc

Love. That plaid dress would look horrible with my coloring ,yet I want it.

    • Tigerfly

Wow, so much to love. And I’d cut a bitch for any of the the black and white pieces…

    • prismamars

      What a pretty collection!

    • Scrench

I had a floral pants suit in the sixties similar to his…and I WANT this one even more…fabulous…

    • H2olovngrl

Wow, sunny, cheerful, gorgeous and wearable. I think this looks like a resort collection, but it doesn’t bother me because, man, does it make me wish summer wasn’t ending. Also- HOSTESS PANTS!

    • CatherineRhodes

That is the most gorgeous collection I’ve seen so far. (Hard to imagine the current crop of PR contestants ever doing such good work, but that’s another story.)

    • TigerLaverada

Wow. He is the real deal. An elegant, luxe, wearable collection that flatters the body. His was a fabulous PR season with more than one talented designer in the mix. Oh, those were the days.

      • Linda LaPaz

The real deal was the first thing that came to my mind too!

    • Britney

Man. That boy just grows and evolves every time. I love it.

    • Synnae

Beautiful collection. Interesting designs. Not my personal style but wonderfully chique. And he must have a very good atelier with all that embroidery.

    • http://www.bethposts.blogspot.com/ Buffy

Wow, if I hadn’t seen his name on the top of the post I wouldn’t have guessed it was his stuff. Love seeing how he continues to grow!

    • PastryGoddess

So so pretty. That one tea length white dress with all the embroidery has my name on it.

    • ankali

The sheer blouses and floral prints towards the top look extremely dated to me, but everything else is really pretty and fresh. Love the canary yellow almost-hostess-pants look, and the blue metallic print top and skirt. The first black-and-white look is really impressive. Shoes are super-cute.

Definitely a huge step forward for him; very confident collection.

    • Latin Buddy

They’re great pieces but wish he would have edited a few out. Back on Project Runway, he was limited to an X number of pieces so it was a series of greatest hits. Here, having more room, he’s leaving a few clunkers

      • E2_Remote

Really liked the collection, but I agree. Should have ditched at least a half dozen of these.

    • quiltrx

Very pretty. I think the peachy/nude embroidered dress is my favorite.
I think most of this could be worn by a lot of women, too (except I think you have to be pretty tiny to pull off a raffia ‘basket’ dress!).

    • In_Stitches

Typically he shines with the ‘dramatic’ pieces and his quieter moments are the let downs. It’s a complete switch here. His closing gown is a dud, but the separates are amazing. Love the floral print, the colorful stripes and the black and white moments.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

There is a lot to love here, the color block florals and bold stripes are screaming my name. I have to say though, the bare midriff thing this season is killing me, and not in a good way.

    • Pudgy Possum

      Very pretty but nothing new.

    • semirose

I took a tripto Isla Mujeres once and it was legit one of my favourite vacations so i can see why he’d be inspired and this is a fantastic collection.

    • e jerry powell

Wow. I’m loving the color story.

    • Fordzo

I don’t know. Those first few florals remind me of my Nana’s condo in Boca, back in ’89.

    • Robin Murray

The models are styled so sweaty and pale they all look seasick. But if I had to be seasick, I’d do it in that salmon pink lame number.

      • Trickytrisha

TLo said in another post that it was REALLY hot in the venue.

    • Kate4queen

I really like some of this!

    • Little_Olive

I know most BKs won’t agree with me here, and I admit to not being a fan of CS, so there is a possibility that I am biased: I don’t really like it. Many of the pieces, especially the first ones, seem poor in detail, lacking that certain oomph that gives clothes a designer feel; like they were on their way to something major but got lost in the process.
To each their own, I guess.

    • Slade Thunderdragon

Miranda from Project Runway this season should take note: THIS is how you expose midriffs and maintain taste.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1180174329 Elizabeth Phillips

He really has turned out to be the best to come out of PR, hasn’t he?

      • veleri

yep. I guess he is the only one who has been really launched by the talent show. And I kinda hated him during the competition!

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1180174329 Elizabeth Phillips

Me, too! Not as much as Gretchen or that guy with the neck tattoo the same season as Laura Bennett, but yeah.

          • veleri

UUU I almost forgot about Gretchen, damnit she was really annoying!

that guy with the neck tattoo… hm, didn’t he win the season? :D

            • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1180174329 Elizabeth Phillips

Yes, he did. I couldn’t stand him.

            • Fanny_Trollope

And if I’m not mistaken, he will be on the PR All Stars’ season that’s coming up. Jeffrey Sebelia.

    • Trickytrisha

Some beautiful stuff here. Love the prints and colors, especially that unusual green and pale peachy color. Could do without the floppy feathers. Mr. Siriano is proving to be a gem.

    • BuffaloBarbara

I love the little white peasant-blouse style dress. The rest of it, I like, but that — simple as it is — I love.

    • http://marshmallowjane.com/ marshmallowjane

This collection could be split in half. The middle looks don’t coordinate well with the beginning and end of the show. I LOVE HIS DESIGNS! Just sayin’.

When I see his yellow garments, I think of Karen who was just eliminated from PR. Karen, this is how yellow should be done. This is how a loose garment should be done.

I’ll always remember Siriano’s tiny apartment and design studio when he was putting his PR collection together. His only place to sleep was a narrow hallway. Everything was a labor of love for him. He’s so talented.

One of Siriano’s dresses in this collection is freakishly basic. It has an elastic casing at the waist and at the neckline. I think he whipped up a last-minute look with this.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

I’m guessing b/w stripes are a “thing” this season? Also everyone seems to be working the florals.

    • Imasewsure

As usual I like much of the simpler pieces here and the peach tones and florals are really pretty… Can’t see Isla Mujeres in any of this but then again I had been drinking when I was there!!

    • Claudia

The white skirt in 3, the white dress in 6, the orange and yellow outfits, and the black and white striped skirt…mega-WANT! I don’t so much love the 3d flowers on the floral dresses, but everything is very pretty and beautifully designed.

    • Celeste

Is it me or do all of the models look like they have hip dysplasia?

    • sagecreek

Very fun and fresh. I really love that orange minidress — which I’m pretty sure is a sentence I have never uttered before.

    • jmorino08

I can do without a lot of the feathers and flowers and froof, but those beaded dresses are absolutely gorgeous!

    • Sarah

I’m not mad at this stuff, but does that first look’s shoes have ankle saddlebags? I’m confused.

    • decormaven

He’s truly come into his own. Not a fan of the feathery looks, but everything else is solid work.

    • Tracy_Flick

The coral sequined gown – OMG. I think I’m going to cry myself to sleep tonight because I have neither that dress nor a place to wear it.

    • conniemd

I think the first half of the collection with the gorgeous and bold colored short dresses is much better than the gowns in the collection with the exception of that gorgeous flame colored flowing dream. I don’t like the feathered at all.

    • Sunraya

Love the solid dresses, but that floral print is way too Grandmas Couch for me.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

I love pretty much all of it. It blends the Siriano brand with Central American cultural imagery without screaming either one too hard. I’ll take all the skirts, for starters, then we can move onto dresses.

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Pretty. Some of the later floral stuff I can’t see on anyone IRL, but the earlier gowns are very, very red-carpet worthy.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

There is a lot to love there. Go Christian!

    • greyhoundgirl

These are probably going to get a LOT of red carpet wear. The florals are so lovely–and the bold solids look like flowers.

    • formerlyAnon

This is the first of his collections to make me go “Yes! I think it’s all going to pay off for this young man!” Half to two thirds of this is really quite wonderful.

    • SignLadyB

What they said! Princess Puffysleeves has certainly grown into a mature and lovely designer. Were I 40 years younger, 40 pounds trimmer and 40 times richer I would snap up a large part of this collection!

    • LaurieRoz

What’s with the droopy poodle ears on the shoes in the first two photos?

    • fursa_saida

That short orange dress is GLORIOUS.

    • GTrain

Love it. So happy to see him doing so well in the industry.

    • Coleen

That orange dress made me cry. I don’t even remember the last time I did that. Gorgeous.

    • Bwin51

No to the flower print but the red burn out fabric is awesome.

    • guest2visits

Crazy about several of the gowns; including the classic looking #6. The short tangerine dress #8 – and the fluttery spring green dresses. Also the light as air pants sets.

    • Kent Roby

It’s fun watching “our boy” mature as a designer. In fact, it makes me a little sad to think that we’re not likely to see similar success from any of the Bunim-Murray crop of PR designers.

    • Shawn EH

Some of these look really hard to pull off, but very lovely if you manage it.

    • peacelovecrazy

He’s speaking at my college campus November 5 (Univ. of Tennessee). Watched that entire Project Runway season and am glad to see he’s getting some approval. At least here. Some of these dresses were fabulous.
