Chris Hemsworth in Giorgio Armani at the Rush Rome Premiere

Posted on September 16, 2013

This is kind of a different look for Chris:

Chris Hemsworth attends the premiere of “Rush” at Auditorium della Conciliazione in Rome, Italy in Giorgio Armani.

He seems to have slimmed down considerably, which means the gorilla-tailored suits are no longer an option. Frankly, that’s a good thing. In one of life’s grand ironies, muscular guys who look great naked don’t always look so hot when you put a suit on them. Granted, he seems to have done alright for himself since we can’t recall anyone recoiling in horror at his former barrel-chested, 3-piece suited self.

This fits him nicely and is extremely well put-together. We might quibble over the overwhelming navy/grayness of it all, but thats a gorgeous shirt and tie and we can’t really find fault with anything going on here.

Well, okay. The hair. We can find fault with that crunchy-looking ’90s boybander ‘do.

I would still totally tap that.

    • JDreesen

oh, C’MON! tap the hair! use a hammer! bet it shatters into a million little pointy, follicly shards.

      • Emily Smith

Maybe it would break off, cool runnings style?

  • Krysta

Striking resemblance to Pierce Brosnan in that closeup, somehow.

    • That’s who I was seeing too.

    • Emily Giovanni

I think it’s the squint. They have similar eyes.

      • Krysta

        I think you’re right!

    • Kristin McNamara

I’m getting a CREEPY resemblance to Chace Crawford. (Google him if you’re not familiar.) In fact, TLo, are you so sure this ISN’T Chase? 😉

  • MoHub

A great look ruined by bad hair.

  • Emily Giovanni

That hair is ruining everything here.

  • WendyD

I find zero fault with this. I like him “thin” or Thor.

  • I would like those pants hemmed a skosh higher, and get 80% of the product outta his hair. Otherwise, dandy.

  • Between “Rush” and “American Hustle” it is going to get all kinds of 70s funk up in here. I predict we’ll be seeing more of the recent Reem Acra looks than we ever thought possible, and most of the Bitter Kittens were really feeling that collection.

Brother No. 1 looks fine enough here. I don’t know why the Hemsworth boys don’t warm my biscuit, but they both rarely get a second glance from me.

    • ShaoLinKitten

Once again I find myself agreeing with you. I am strangely unmoved by Hemsworth men. They are both exactly my type, but they do nothing for me. I feel I am missing out.

      • demidaemon

        It’s probably the hair.

        • ShaoLinKitten

Even when he is big, buffed out Thor, with the hair and beard, nothing. And that is my type to a T. It’s a mystery.

  • crash1212

He looks so much better less muscular. He’s actually cute to my eye now. Great suit. De-crunch the hair and this would be a man-WERQ for me.

  • DamH

Is he trying to give a Ian Somerhalder vibe? BTW it’s a great movie and he’s still got his hotness (though he looks too 70s-ish to me on the poster) as James Hunt, of course.

  • Fordzo

I’ve never understood the appeal of these Hemsworth boys.

  • Janet B

Gorgeous suit, and he’s wearing it well.

  • ashtangajunkie

I miss the Thor-ness of his former appearance, but I can’t hate a Hemsworth.

  • par3182

    It’s as if he’s deflatable.

  • Christine

He slimmed down considerably in order to play race car driver James Hunt in “Rush.” So, I’m guessing it’s a temporary physical state.

    • ana170

It’s temporary in that he’s going to be playing Thor again but I suspect this is closer to his natural state. I’ve heard that he hates the workouts required to play Thor.

      • Bridget Smith

This is what he looked like in his ten minutes in the first [new] Star Trek, too, which was pre-Thor.

        • Synnae

He was insanely big in Thor! Those topless pap shots, it was just so much muscles. Too much muscles for me, and I like big muscular guys.

This is probably closer to his natural build but the guy is still sculpted underneath that very well fitting suit.

      • not_Bridget

Yes, but he had to work out for the race car driver role–all cardio, not muscle building. And he had to diet–for Thor, he does not. I read he prefers to eat like Thor!

I do like him a bit slimmer. And would love to see in him “lighter” roles–the driver was apparently a bit of a creep, so this is not that role. However, he was a womanizer–so lots of the wirier Hemsworth should be on view….

        • Ashley Fakava

I heard that he hates eating all those chickens for Thor.

Doesn’t seem like he’ll be heading into fluffy stuff anytime unless Thor takes a turn into comedy. He just finished shooting a techno thriller with Michael Mann, and he’s reteamed with Ron Howard to play a sailor whose ship is destroyed by a whale leaving the crew stranded in the ocean for 90 days. I wouldn’t mind a rom-com one day.

    • Kimmu

This size is actually his natural state. He has to bulk UP for Thor.

      • Christine

Well, can we say we’re both right? He gained 20 pounds for Thor and lost 30 pounds for Rush.

    • Kate4queen

      James Hunt was yummy.

  • Cheryl

Way better, without the pumped out physique. Suit looks good, I don’t even mind the hair.

  • marlie

Aside from the hair, he looks great! I love the subtle windowpane print on his suit. Nice job, Chris!

  • Belvane

    Remember when men used to shave? {wistful sigh}

    • formerlyAnon

      God, yes.

  • Stella Zawistowski

“In one of life’s grand ironies, muscular guys who look great naked don’t always look so hot when you put a suit on them.”

That isn’t irony. That’s the universe telling such men to spend more time wearing less clothing in public view.

  • stu844

    i like him slimmed down!

  • I love him less bulky!

  • nannypoo

There seems to be a sale on Brylcreem in Hollywood lately. Otherwise he looks great.

  • Getoverit

Oh I miss the bulkier him…the one with washed hair too.

  • Kimmu

I will never be able to be objective when it comes to Chris because pretty much every part of my child free, single and loving it body sees him and screams “I want him to put a baby in me!”

I like his terrible 90s boyband hair, but probably because I think it’s good evidence he’s growing it back out to shoulder length, which really is the best hair for him.

I’m also incredibly chuffed Chris has been looking better in suits recently than Hiddleston. It’s usually the opposite. I really loved Chris’s TIFF look with the deep burgundy tie from last week.

  • formerlyAnon

It’s the Pattinson/Sewart Intentional Overuse of Product Syndrome.

But I admire him so much more with less muscle on his frame that this is a net plus. In the extremely likely event any of us ever got up close and personal enough that the product became a tactile issue, I’m perfectly willing to wash his hair. Sloooowly.

  • kimmeister

I don’t like the level of product he has in his hair, but I do like him with shorter, darker hair.

  • Lucas

Is it just me, or is it becoming more and more difficult to tell him apart from his brother. I used to be able to tell by the muscle mass, but now? They just look like freaking twins.

  • MilaXX

He looks pretty good suit wise, I’ll forgive the hair

  • Shame about the hair.

  • leahpapa

Every time I see a Hemsworth, the *only* thing I can think is, “Is this the one who’s with that poor girl with the drugs and the bears?” And then I know that my transformation is complete. Today I am An Old.

  • tereliz

    IDGAF about the hair. Dayum.

  • venusvelvet

    Mm, mm, mm.

  • Ashley Fakava

I was hoping that TLo would’ve covered his look at TIFF only because his hair wasn’t so crunchy looking there. His suit was also lovely.

  • conniemd

When I saw the commercials for “Rush” I kept thinking he looks like a young Brad Pitt. The shaggy hair of course, reinforces that image. BTW young Brad Pitt as in “Thelma and Louise” was very good sausage.

  • quiltrx

The hair’s not a problem for me…I have a hairbrush on the nightstand. 🙂
And that second picture…mmmm. Now making his first appearance as my computer background (and usurping Beckham for the time being)!

  • ThaliaMenninger

Chris Hemsowrth, Viola Davis and I share the same birthday. And the three of us are SO alike. Veritable triplets. But I think he looks pretty cute here (willing to overlook the hair as long as I don’t have to touch it) and much better than when he was bulked up. At first I thought he was the other one, the one who just split with Miley Cyrus, and I thought maybe he’d lost weight because of the breakup. Silly me.
