Cate Blanchett in Prabal Gurung at the Vogue Beauty in Wonderland Party

Posted on September 20, 2013

We question what we’ve done with our lives that we’re not attending something called the Vogue Beauty in Wonderland party in Milan. That would appear to be a life goal we didn’t know we had until just now. We’ll have to write that one down.

In other news, Miss Cate knows exactly what to wear to a party called Vogue Beauty in Wonderland:

Cate Blanchett attends the Vogue Beauty in Wonderland party in Milan, Italy in a Prabal Gurung dress from the Resort 2014 collection paired with Roger Vivier shoes.

Prabal Gurung Resort 2014 Collection/Model: Chiharu Okunugi

Yes, that would appear to be thematically appropriate. Truth be told, we’re a bit surprised she didn’t’ wear an Italian designer.

Goddess, diva, fierce, fabulous, divine, amazing, Bow Down fuckers.

That’s all that needs to be said when one gazes upon Cate Blanchett.

    • leahpapa

I’m going to start calling her King Cate. Bow the entire fuck down, indeed.

  • Jacquelyn

    Damn. That is all.

  • sagecreek

She just never makes a misstep. I would hate her if I didn’t adore her so fiercely.

    • Clancy Johnston Tice

      Really. It’s not fair.

  • kirkyo

It’s nice to see her in something flirty and fun for a change.

  • hughman

    Swan Like.

  • bellafigura1

    That is a mega WERQ.

  • Glam Dixie

How in the world is Resort 2014 out already? Didn’t we just have Spring 2014? Confused by fashion.

    • demidaemon

I think Resort 2014 came out over the summer, which means regular people (and by regular, I mean “has a lot of money”) can buy it as next summer’s (2014) wardrobe. That’s just me making a bunch of logical guesstimates, though.

    • Constant Reader

Resort comes out before Spring. It’s a collection of things to wear on vacation in late winter. It’s also a way to get shoppers who aren’t going anywhere but are sick of slogging through the snow in wool sweaters to impulse buy spring clothes early (which totally works; I’ve done it myself). At least, that’s how it works in regular retail — presumably, people who can afford big-name designers actually go to Antibes or wherever in late winter and/or buy now to adopt the trends before they get into the stores.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

Um…no. I don’t like this. The proportions are off. Romanian gymnast on top. Cancan dancer on the bottom. I dunno…And, the shoe is too precious, for Cate.

    • sagecreek

      Get a rope!

(j/k, Homes. It is funny how we all worship her, so bravo you for bucking the tide.)

    • marlie

“Cancan dancer on the bottom.” Perhaps that’s why my thought was “that dress looks like it would be fun to wear!” ;)

      • Constant Reader

Obviously, we are long lost sisters. :)

    • Razvan Dobre

if that’s what Romanian gymnasts wear then they are fabulous!

    • Imasewsure

It looked slightly A-line in the model’s picture and I liked the proportions better. Fun dress either way though

    • filmcricket

I agree, I think this is a miss. It’s certainly not her dress.

    • fursa_saida

I like the dress fine, but I think the shoes are sort of pathetic.

  • pattyw

Wow, I’m really going to be in the minority here, but I don’t get the love for this look. Top half gives her the figure of a12-year-old boy, bottom half sits oddly on her hips. And any other actress sporting that ‘do would surely be accused of “yoga hair.”

    • majorbedhead

      I don’t get it either.

      • teensmom99

When you are one of the greats, you can pull off what others can’t.

    • Alice

I agree–I liked it until I saw the sloppy ponytail. Yoga hair after a nap.

  • Sobaika

    Perfect.

(Except her hair looks a mess from the back but wtvs)

  • marlie

This looks like it’s downright FUN to wear. Brava, Cate!

  • Jessica Freeman

I wished the waist were higher to save the top from looking like a tank top, and I’m not fully sold on the shoes.

    • Celandine1

I would have totally gone with shoes the model wore, Wonderland indeed!

  • teensmom99

With La Blanchett and Natalie, it’s texture Friday!

  • Rhonda Shore

This outfit utterly delights…even w/o red toenails!

  • GillianHolroyd

Another minority view here. I just don’t like the red; I think it looks cheap.

  • Latin Buddy

Me no likey. On the model, I love the delicate way that it drapes off her. On Cate, it looks snug and ruins the effect.

    • jspark

But with all the volume in the skirt she needed to have a waist. I like how Kate fills it out, the tight fit makes a better contrast with the flowing feathers.

      • demidaemon

I prefer Cate to the model as well. It falls a little flat on the model, in my opinion.

  • MilaXX

I don’t care for this. I think the top looks too causal for the skirt and the open toe shoe seems out of place as well. It’s not awful, but I expect grander from Cate.

    • decormaven

I wish she had deployed the shoes worn with the designer look. The ones chosen just don’t suit.

  • eowyn_of_rohan

I’m all for fun and feathers, but that just makes her look like an ostrich on her period.

    • AnnPopovic

That’s horrible! And really funny! No. Horrible! Nope, sorry. Funny wins!

  • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

    She’s wearing Goop’s hair…

  • Leah Elzinga

“Wonderland” + that skirt and all I can see now are the Queen of Hearts flamingos… And I mean that in a good way!

  • Shawn EH

That dress is horrible. So how does she look so great in it? She’s like Bette Davis level of doing what she chooses at this point.

  • mjude

    will ALWAYS bow down

  • bookish

I thought the dress was gorgeous, but then I realized she’d look perfect cheering on the University of Utah’s football team tomorrow.

  • tereliz

Huh. I feel like the bodice is too fitted, like it would be better slightly swingier and looser like on the model. It’s just a little too wife-beater-adjacent as is. But this is the tiniest of quibbles. I still think she looks great.

  • Cz

    Cate Blanchett, spirit animal.

  • BrooklynBomber

I don’t think this is her dress.

    • http://wikeslongtrail.blogspot.com/ latenac

The drop waist is rather unflattering. She does manage to pull it off if anyone is going to pull it off but it’s not as flattering as it could be.

      • Clueless_Jock

        Looks itchy too.

  • http://ayearofmommyhood.blogspot.com/ Tabby_abby

I don’t like the drop waist. However, it was near her natural waist, it would probably be a little two twee. I like the skirt feather things and the color.

  • CeeQ

This is basically the prom dress of Alice of Wonderland fame. Which is to say I LOVE.
Those shoes are cute but wow the heels look perilously skinny. I’d stack it in those all night long. Ass over tea kettle kind of “stack it”.

  • Sara Brams-Miller

She is the ONLY person who could make me like this dress.

  • SewingSiren

    Cha cha love it.

  • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Yes, she does look better than the model. Who is young enough to be her daughter. When I grow up, I want to be Cate Blanchett.

    • R. L.

      Me too.

  • sk8tfan

Don’t love the shoes or strange horizontal black stripe, but love the flirty skirt. She’s missed on the last few outings so I’m glad to see she’s regained her form.

  • fauxprah

    sometimes you look like a dude……………sometimes u don’t!

  • Jenna Marie

Gorgeous! And when I first saw this, I thought it was Claire Danes. I’ve never thought they looked alike before.

  • alyce1213

This is great fun, but I wish the model’s shoes were on her feet.

  • conniemd

Certainly any event with “Wonderland” in its title requires something fun and unexpected. Boring would be the biggest sin.

  • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

Serving up Red Queen in Wonderland.

  • Anne At Large

Chic, minimalist, and just that soupcon of flamingo. Love her.

  • R. L.

Looks better on Cate than on the model.

  • Trickytrisha

I, also, cannot understand why our uncles were not partying in Wonderland, but Cate is serving us up some frisky loveliness here to soothe their (and our) souls. Yes, the bodice is un peu tight (sue me, I don’t know the Italian for a little bit and I’m trying to be cute here), but she’s fifty shades of glorious.

  • LadyLuck777

At first I thought her hands were in her pockets, but then I realized that’s just where here hands fall because of her amazing posture! Stunning!

  • jmorino08

Model, meet Cate. And bow the fuck down!

  • d4divine

    FLAWLESS! ELEGANZA!

  • guest2visits

She’s beautiful, she’s pulling it off…but it’s not my favorite dress.
The feathers are fine; it’s something else I can’t define.

  • AudreysMom

I can’t help it but Cate continues to compare in my mind to Gwyneth (I guess it was the 1999 Oscars) and forever wins. She will always look better, more fabulous, more diva-like and less effortful, and they both will bow down to Queen Tilda.

  • quiltrx

That dress is SO fun. And seems to fit a Wonderland theme (Alice not John Holmes LOL).

  • unbornfawn

Pretty, but it reminds me of one of those pokeman ball things.

  • Cheryl

    Much, much better.

  • Cate

Out of context, I’m not sure if I would be crazy about the dress. But on this lady, with her make-up looking like that? I absolutely love it. She is stunning.

  • putacorkinit

    Great look, worn well.

  • fursa_saida

In the third picture (of her, not counting the model picture), I could eerily easily mistake her for Claire Danes. It’s kind of freaking me out.

  • Lilithcat

    I dont’ understand a wife-beater t-shirt with feathers.

  • ashtangajunkie

I love this, I want to wear this somewhere. It would come to my ankles, but whatever.

  • Lilak

First we had that cape-y black-and-gloom Tisci gown, now this. What do they have in common? They only look right when the wearer has no boobs to speak of. And Blanchett, who does have boobs to speak of, has worn them both — in nearly back-to-back appearances.
    Aw, Cate.

  • MannahattaMamma

who knew Cate had such buff arms! she and michelle obama could arm-wrestle

  • Danielle West

I don’t observe this often, but her makeup is FLAWLESS.
