Cate Blanchett for AnOther Magazine

Posted on September 16, 2013

Miss Cate gives scary crazyface to AnOther mag, which is fitting, if you’ve seen Blue Jasmine.

Cate Blanchett covers the Fall/Winter 2013 issue of AnOther magazine photographed by Willy Vanderperre and styled by Olivier Rizzo.

Prada Fall 2013 Collection/Model: Irene Hiemstra

Christian Dior Fall 2013 Collection/Model: Anastasia Ivanova (NATHALIE)

Miu Miu Fall 2013 Collection/Models: Kremi Otashliyska (ELITE)/Irina Nikolaeva (OUI)

We’ve gotta say, though; it’s not really working for us. Cate can do the weird fashion, but that bizarre makeup isn’t serving her well and the posing’s kind of over-wrought and a little silly-looking. The clothes look great, though. But the rest of it’s kind of a disappointment. We doubt anyone could make those eyebrows look good.

Eh. I love Cate. I love Tilda. I do not love Cate *doing* her best Tilda.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

She looks like someone else entirely, but I still love it. The red coat shot is amazing.

      • homofascist

        Love the red coat shot.

      • decormaven

Even with the eyebrow treatment, yes. That’s just a delicious outfit.

      • kimmeister

        Those cheekbones!

      • littlemac8

Weren’t we all just lovin’ on that red coat a while back. Stunning. You can keep the rest of it. Styling and all.

        • littlemac8

And if I hate anything more than a bow tie on woman’s bare neck, I don’t know what it is!

    • jspark

Yikes, it’s like the face of Cantinflas but upside down.

    • Coleen

This is Tilda-lite. You gotta commit to go the whole SWINTON, Cate.

    • Cheryl

I knew Tilda Swinton, and you sir are no Tilda Swinton.

    • claudemtl777

the pic with the red coat is very nice, imho

    • SugarSnap108

The mini-brows ruin it. But those clothes and (of course) her face are amazing.

    • Nicole C

I’ll take this over all the other bland spreads I’ve seen lately.

ps: I’m cranky. It is Monday.

    • marlie

I really like this. The photos are striking and unique. And that read Dior coat… LOVE.

    • Sunraya

I like it. As an actress, she is showing us something. I am not sure what, but I like it.

    • Rhonda Shore

Agree with T-Lo. It’s silly and seems like a miss.

    • Jacquelyn

I think the clothes are good. That red coat is fantastic.

    • Claudia Fernandes

This dior red coat is everywhere! And it is gorgeous. I think she is amazing, but this photos are funny, althought i think it is unwilling…She is great as Jasmine – a tragic character – i hope she does’nt be missed for prizes nezt year

There’s something disturbing but beautiful about this work, like seeing a holocaust victim modeling circus clothes. Makes one feel quite uneasy.

    • elemspbee

I can see that I’m not the only one who went to the Tilda comparison here. May be uncalled for but Cate can’t pull off the extraterrestrial fashion look. Amazing clothes but the face, the face! Que horror.

    • filmcricket

      Serving up Joel Grey realness.

    • Nimith

I kind of like it, I’m seeing her as Galadriel in a 21st century, post modern reinterpretation of Lord of the Rings.

    • TerryMarie

I’m getting a serious Lady Macbeth vibe from these photos, especially the last one: “Is this a dagger I see before me?”

    • Judy_S

I can’t help myself, I love the melodrama of this, the nutty styling and grand gestures.

    • Shawn EH

Clownish. But the Miu Miu … uhm, coat?– is cool.

    • MilaXX

All I can think of is,”send in the clowns.”

    • Rhonda Hanson

I think this is suppose to imitate the famous mime marcel marceau

That makeup artist should be shot from a cannon.

    • crash1212

Eyebrows really do make all the difference. That red Dior coat is to die for.

    • Julie

She looks like a butoh dancer. This is not for me, but is really interesting.

    • oohsparkley!

Too much visual effort to be artsy.

    • Trickytrisha

Damn. The magazine folks deserve coal in their stockings this Christmas for doing this to our Cate. Weird and cool is one thing, this is just weird and unattractive.

    • formerlyAnon

She looks like publicity stills of mid-century modern dance company director-choreographers. I don’t know why she’d want to, but I like it. The red coat is suitably dramatic and the most attractive thing in the shoot.

    • Wendi126

Her eyebrows look like 2 spermatozoa about to collide

    • Alloy Jane

I rather love this. It seems a bit tongue in cheek, what with the mime-face and all. I imagine she’s tapping on the glass box in the last picture, hehe.
