Your hips are crying. Also, now I want to play with that purse and pretend it is swimming through her dress on the way to eat that twig in her hair.

  • IDreamIn4D

pretty. i like the whole look. very put together.

  • MilaXX

I like the bluer color on the model.

    • tereliz

I’m thinking the only difference is the lighting. Sunlight is yellowing the blue up a little. Everything seems to look more saturated in the controlled lighting atmosphere of a runway show, not overblown in LA sun.

  • LadyCelia

Seriously unflattering. The hip swag/pleat makes her look lumpy and thick, and I’m guessing she’s anything but.

    • Rhonda Shore

The word that comes to mind is unfortunate.

    • Lucía Gavello

I agree, I don’t dislike the dress though, It’s just not her dress.

  • sagecreek

I liked it, but would have liked it better short.

  • PlethoraofBooks

It makes her wider than she actually is. But I still like the dress anyways.

  • carlaaxtman

It’s like a sea monster is swallowing her whole. She’s a tiny little woman being eaten alive by a ginormous swath of ocean fabric.

  • nyazgirl

Pregnant mermaid. Meh. The waist is too high, and gathered at the belly button. I just…I can’t.

  • Laurieandclaire

    Needs a bit stronger lip.
Do not like the clutch with it. But othe than that, I think it’s beautiful.

  • kalisa

Horribly, horribly unflattering. And put some lipstick on.

  • Am I the only one who thinks it’s a little bit mean, if not at the very least ironic that Sophia Bush is at a “Do Something” event. Also, that dress is a waterfall of sad.

    • Imasewsure

Maybe they are projecting… please DO SOMETHING, Dear…..

    • Kristin McNamara

While I understand the point you are making (and agree it could be construed as somewhat ironic) she is actually ridiculously involved with charities, awareness of like, every cause ever, and volunteering her time different places. I doubt many people in attendance (if any) would’ve picked up on the unfortunate wordplay, as they’re most likely very aware of her civic-related choices.

    • Jessica O’Connell

She started a charity years back so…guessing it’s for that and not for her acting career. That does make me sad though, because I really like her.

      • demidaemon

You all make it sound like these are her Oscars. If so, she really whiffed on the style front for her big night.

  • H2olovngrl

That matchy backdrop is doing her no favors. Shame, too. It’s a cute dress.

    • I was thinking the same thing. Is the dress making her look wide or the fact that she is blending into the background making her look wide.

  • JuliaInBlack

This is a lovely dress but it’s one of those that has to be in motion to transform it into something stunning (I bet there’s probably a term for that but I don’t know it). Save it for a windy day, Sophe.

  • giddypony

How can a dress that fantastic look like a housecoat?

  • Anathema_Device

Don’t care for the dress style but love the color. Makeup is awful. She looks totally washed out, which is the opposite of what that blue should be doing for her.

  • IngerMereteH

There is something unfortunate about the placement of the white pattern across her hips, which makes her look as if she has an additional set of thighs painted on. This is probably why the hip region looks a little wider than it is. Apart from that I think it is a beautiful, summery dress. The colour combination is lovely. And while her hips may complain, her boobs are looking very pleased with themselves.

  • alyce1213

This is a dress for a wealthy, 70-year-old dowager hosting a party at her ranch in Palm Springs.

  • Clydette Wantland

    Fish scales…

    • Monabel

      Fish scales! Yay!

  • neonseattle

i wish this was a flirtier length. also needs a brighter lip. i feel like the blue is reflecting off the backdrop, making her lips look cold and dead.

  • TonyGo

    Butt ugly. Full stop.

  • PastryGoddess

Shorter would have been better in this instance. Although I can see this length dressed down with some flat sandals, a kick-ass necklace, some earrings, and killer shades

  • Imasewsure

    OMYGAWD this is awful

  • Fordzo

There’s a lot of stuff going on here.

  • Louise Bryan

I guess the dress is supposed to make one look like a giant fish?

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

That dress should be on a lettuce-lined plate with a side of chips and a lemon wedge.

  • bertkeeter

Looks like something Endora ( Agnes Morehead ) on Bewitched would have worn!

    • Lori

But on Endora it would have been fabulous instead of a little “off”, like it is here. Something is definitely wrong with the hip region on Sophia. I also hate that purse with it.

  • ThaliaMenninger

I needed that dress when I did a play with a mermaid in it. We could’ve stuck her and called it a day.

  • LaSylphide

Her posture is making it hard to judge the dress. The last photo is the most flattering because she’s not slouching. You just can’t slouch in a low-cut bodice. Colors are pretty, but it’s awfully busy.

  • Tatiana Luján

    This is beautiful.

  • Aidan B

I hated it until I saw the side view, which was MUCH better. This dress is an “almost.”

  • kimiakay

Girl, that is not your dress.

  • Anniebet

“Hollywood” should hire a Marine drill sergeant for these events to yell “Atten-shun!” when each celeb steps for for her or his photo op. Maybe they’d stand up straight then.

  • Phyllis Craine

Makes her look very short waisted. The side view though is pretty good

  • Pudgy Possum

Not a great fit from the waist up, but she looks pretty polished and put together. Too bad about the blue background, though; the competing blues are making me go cross-eyed.

  • teensmom99

Who wore this on a variety show in the 70s? I’m sure some one did.

  • ankali

I think she may be too short for this dress. Very unusual choice, though, so kudos to her.

  • formerlyAnon

“Spring”? All that cosy, warm and/or tailored stuff in the “Resort” collections and this reception-on-the-lanai gown is “Spring?”

  • It looks like she hugged someone who’d been dipped in a vat of flour.

  • Getoverit

The dress is pretty…from a distance. Close up and the pattern looks like curtains from a bygone era.

  • marlie

The dress is interesting and has potential, but I’m distracted by how it clashes with the backdrop.

  • looks much better on the model. in the close-up, it looks like the white is appliqued on with black thread. or maybe she has ants crawling on her. great color though.

  • demidaemon

  • Cute beach towel.
