Sarah Paulson at the Emmys Performers Peer Group Reception

Posted on August 21, 2013

Is it a requirement now that every ladystar go blonde at some point during her career? Could you imagine if male stars had to do this?

“American Horror Story” star Sarah Paulson at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ Performers Peer Group cocktail reception to celebrate the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards in Universal City, California.

The blonde, it does not suit, Sarah. We hope you kept the receipt.

Also, we were prepared to compliment you on your pretty dress but then we saw you matched your eyeshadow to it and now we’re so horrified that we’re afraid we’re incapable of saying anything nice. We’re trying to decide if it’s the matchiness of the eyeshadow or the fact that it’s bright purple that has us more distraught. Also, it looks like it was applied with a wet Q-Tip. Sweetie, professional makeup people are nothing to be afraid of.

But fine, it’s a really cute dress. You can’t screw up that part. The accessories, on the other hand…

Love the colors in the dress. I want to do that color scheme somewhere in my house.

    • bellafigura1

      Marie Schrader, is that you!?

  • Diego!

I remember seein her many years ago in a sitcom named Jack & Jill and she was blonde, but it was a better blond than this one. On the other hand I really like the dress but her kinda orange hair is so distracting that I canยดt focus on what to say about her overall look ๐Ÿ™

    • Sara Brams-Miller

      You read my mind.

    • Sobaika

We must’ve been the only two people watching Jack and Jill.

      • amanda siegelson

no no! i loved that show. i knew it wasn’t good – but still loved it. my namesake amanda (peet) and sarah were so great… ivan sergei, jaime pressly and justin kirk? that’s a fantastic cast!!!!!!

        • Diego!

Girls, it was a hit here in LatinAmerica, I don’t know why it was cancelled, it was really fun, specially fhe first season! Anyway, she was blonder than here and looked way better!

          • amanda siegelson

i think the problem stemmed from the fact that it was marketed by the WB as being on par with ‘felicity’ – which was far and away a better written and acted show. that and the whole lame title “twist/ironic funny” thing… people really hated that shit (i know i did) and didn’t give the show itself much of a shot.

          • Diego!

That’s why it got cancelled during the second season ๐Ÿ™ Felicity was way better, specially in the acting!

    • sagecreek

Wasn’t she kind of blonde in Serenity, too? I could drag out my DVD and check but I’m too lazy.

      • Diego!

        I don’t think I’ve ever seen Serenity ๐Ÿ™

        • sagecreek

Well, you need to! Start with Firefly first, though. Available on Netflix streaming!

          • ItsDicey

            L-O-V-E Firefly!

    • ecallaw1977

I watched Jack and Jill too! She was also blond on that drama with Matthew Perry about a show like Saturday Night Live, and she was a blonde on a comedy series she was on that I didn’t watch–Faith and Hope? Hope and Grace? Something like that. I’ve only ever seen her blond, so I can’t imagine her any other way.

      • Diego!

She turned to brunette for a career-spin and had her hair brown for years until now it seems.

    • Florence Whytingale

I too watched that show! Also, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip? Definitely blond. In fact, I’d venture she’s spent more of her career blond than brunette.

was it her intent to scare us? You know like a cross promotion for her scary-show??

  • lexilexi

It’s not just the color of her hair, the style could not be more wrong for her.

    • kimmeister

Exactly, it is just elongating an already long face.

  • I could see her rocking a nice auburn, but this blonde? Nope.

  • RussellH88

My supervisor would send TLo into fainting spells. The woman loves to wear a sleeveless shift dress in a solid color and then match her eyeshadow to it. I’ve seen pink, green, and blue so far. Gurl needs help (and a new personality)

    • decormaven

Whoa, that is scary. [hand pats]

  • Michael Colvin

See I first got to know Ms. SP while she was a blonde on Studio 60 – so it’s like she’s coming back to her HH days.

    • ThaliaMenninger

Yeah, I thought she was pretty much always blonde until she did Down With Love and had to have a different hair color than Renee Zellweger.

    • I did the Google for her and she has almost always had some shade of blonde. This doesn’t seem to be one of the better ones.

I agree that she needs to find a better hair style for the shape of her face.

  • itsnotoveryet11

I was young and foolish once and thought matching you eyeshadow to your dress was the chic thing to do. It makes me shudder just thinking back on it, thank god my teenage years are behind me.

  • eowyn_of_rohan

It should be a requirement for the dude stars. What I wouldn’t give to see Paul Giamatti rocking some ombred honey tones!

  • hughman

“American Horror Story : The Maybelline Counter”

    • decormaven

      I unabashedly love you.

  • marlie

LOVE the dress. Agree that blonde isn’t really her look. And that eyeshadow is a travesty. So’s the clutch.

  • MzzPants

Oy. Let’s reign in those lips, shall we?

    • ItsDicey

I know! I clearly recall what she used to look like and it was GOOD. She spoke normally and her smile was rather pretty. Was.

  • bellafigura1

Dress, no. That print, nightmare-worthy. What are those flying things? Bumble-bee butterflies?

  • Cute dress. Should have waiting until October to break it out.

  • filmcricket

She was this blonde on Studio 60. Granted, I would forgive one and all for having forgotten that show; I wish I could.

She’s an attractive lady, but there is no word that describes her RC appearances so much as “dowdy.”

  • sagecreek

I do like that dress…it may just be that it’s August in Texas and I’m longing for fall.

  • MilaXX

Whoever let her out with that makeup should be slapped. Cute dress, shame everything else is so wrong.

  • Joe Schmartin

One correction: it’s purple eyeliner, not eyeshadow (former makeup artist, here). The line is a bit too heavy, so it looks like it’s covering her lid, but it isn’t. And I can see what the makeup artist was going for, namely a surprising pop of color, being that the rest of the palette of color on her face is relatively neutral, but again, it’s too heavy a line, she’s not quite exotic-looking enough to pull it off, and the matchy-matchy with the dress is a super no-no. Rookie/overconfident makeup artist mistake.

  • Imasewsure

    Cute dress… everything else sucks

  • EEKstl

FYI, she was also blonde on the short-lived Aaron Sorkin series “Studio (something…60?) on the Sunset Strip,” where she was a stand-in for real-live AS love Kristin Chenowith and Matthew Perry was a stand-in for AS as Lorne Michaels…

  • leahpapa

Funny, I’ve never known her as non-blonde. I remember watching “Leap of Faith” a million years ago (she had a wardrobe that spoke to my forced-whimsy-Anthropologie-nymph delusional self-image) and she was blonde – or blonde-ish, anyway.

    • Karen Belgrad

That was my thought… Game Change, Studio 60, etc… always blonde.

    • Laughingworld

      She was brunette in “Deadwood.”

  • Prudentia

She was amazing (and brunette) in the first thing I ever saw her in: “American Gothic”…

  • Shawn EH

I think her coloring if fine for going blonde; this is about as cheery as I’ve ever seen her on the RC!

  • SM

She keeps trying to happen but she is not happening.

  • Anne

She was blonde when she was on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip–I’m always surprised to see her with a different hair color.

  • crash1212

I always thought Sarah was blonde. Who knew? Also…I think she’s pretty as one. Cute dress.

  • I’m gonna need a coin toss to decide if her hair or makeup person hates her the most. Poor thing, I can’t tell by looking.

  • Louise Bryan

I like the dress. The clutch is … interesting, and not really offensive, just sort of odd. The shoes are … are … *yawn* … are … zzzzzzzzzzzz. Reminds me of when my sister went blond; it didn’t suit her, either.

  • putacorkinit

What a huge forehead. Is she prepping to play Daughter of Egghead?

  • berkeleygirl

She definitely joins my growing list of celebeauties who really should stay brunette – Beyonce, Claire Danes, Emily Blunt.

  • largishbearishAtlish

A trip to the mall? yes, a trip down the r/c? no. Not sure why but I see mom picking up the kids in this, not the r/c…

  • Stacy Feng

OMG, for a second I totally thought this was (blonde) Kristen Wiig.
