Rose Byrne in Erdem at the “I Give It A Year” Screening

Posted on August 01, 2013

New style directive, Rose. Stick with dark colors.

Rose Byrne attends the “I Give It A Year” Special New York Screening in an Erdem dress paired with Jimmy Choo shoes, a Kelly Wearstler ring, and Ocnarf Sairutsa earrings.

Erdem Fall 2013 Collection

Are we wrong? Doesn’t this look great on her? We’re thinking her coloring needs a little high-contrast. We’ve seen her in a lot of pale colors and white, but this is really setting her off in a great way. It also fulfills her apparent need for fussy clothes. She has a tendency to wear things that look like they would be somewhat annoying to wear. We don’t mind the sheer panels, but we think the ones at the elbow make her look like a floral robot. We have to applaud the choice of those shoes. They’re unexpected, and yet they blend perfectly with the outfit; never overwhelming it or sticking out too much. Nicely done.

Would Floral Robot not be a fabulous name for an all-girl hardcore band?  It would and you know it.

I was gonna claim it for my new band, but you guys beat me to it. I do kinda like the dress, though I could truly live without the sheer bits. I don’t really think they add much. Love the shoes.

    • Emily Smith

I don’t mind the sheer bits up top but the excess sheer on the hem at the bottom really irks me. I feel like it should be the same length as the layer underneath. Be less fussy.

      • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

Boy, I 100% agree, that layer hanging past the hem is a deal breaker. Scroll down FUG for sure.

      • Rhonda Shore

agree, layer past the hem detracts. “Floral robot” sounds like a feminine hygiene product…

      • ankali

Yeah, I’d definitely cut that part off. It would be so much more chic if the overlay and skirt hem lengths matched.

      • demidaemon

        Agreed.

    • tb

(Off Topic) No Lounge for you tonight, AGAIN, K?

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Yeah, sadly, due to changes in manager scheduling, I will be on the sales floor in the evening, rather than off floor, so I won’t have the freedom to hang out using my iphone any longer on Thursday evenings. You’ll just have to drink extra virtual champagne FOR me.

        • tb

Shuddering sigh. This makes me sad. I’d better leave work NOW and start drinking so I feel better.

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

That really is terrifically sweet of you.

        • formerlyAnon

Sad for us, possibly a plus for customers. Cruel world.

        • Adriana_Paula

Oh thank GOD. When you first wrote that you wouldn’t be around as much, I thought you meant GENERALLY, and I have to tell you, it broke my heart not a little.

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I just have to take a moment to say thanks to every one of all you BKs who have expressed similar things. I cannot tell you how very touched I am, and flattered.

Huge Digital Kiltie Hugs to all.

  • Amber J

I like the colors, but the dress is just too busy. It has way too much going on with it between the pattern and the sheer panels/hemline. Her hair also would’ve been better worn up, because all I see when I look at the picture is hair and tiny flowers.

  • Jessica Freeman

I like the coloring on her, but the sheer pieces make this dress look strange.

    • barbarienne

They make her (and the model) look like those dolls held together by rubber bands at the joints to make them moveable. The bands would eventually stretch out and the dolls’ parts would start to separate.

    • formerlyAnon

Though without the sheer bits, I think she’d look too much like walking upholstery. But I am easily overwhelmed by busy patterns.

  • CPK1

yes, dark colors FTW. She looks so much chicer (floral robot arms notwithstanding)

  • NYCGlamourpuss

FLORAL ROBOT? I get to be the bass player! Oh, me me me me, please, me!!

Anyway! Yes, she does look pretty much perfect here, I have to say. Great dress, great shoes, hair and makeup are nice. And although she’s not flat-out smiling, she at least doesn’t look like she’s suffering from crippling menstrual cramps the way she normally does.

  • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Great colors for her. Love the hint of smile she’s giving, as if she knows a secret. I can’t help but wish the dress didn’t have the sheer pieces and was more conventionally constructed.

  • Beardslee

I don’t like the sheer panels at all but those shoes are an inspired choice.

  • SewingSiren

You’re right. She looks great. The sheer and cut outs are done in a tasteful way. The print is flattering.I would love to see it in a low light club situation. I wonder if the yellow flowers fluoresce.

    • formerlyAnon

Excellent question about the yellow flowers. Now I want to know. :-)

  • Karen Belgrad

Sheer panels in otherwise demure dresses… “I give it a year”

  • Werwanderflugen

It looks like her midsection was grazed with a light saber.

  • Emily Smith

She just hates smiling and looking happy doesn’t she.

    • iheartbuffy

a smile certainly doesn’t compliment her sad-puppy-dog eyes (she has beautiful eyes, but they’re sad puppy eyes…. not in a bad way)

  • iheartbuffy

It looks like someone put masking tape where the sheer panels are and built the dress around it. Otherwise she looks great. Love the Twiggy make-up

  • E. D.

I’m OK with all of the sheer parts except the one at the waist. Otherwise, she looks good.

  • Not applicable

This looks granny to me… And I think the sheer strips look like they cut her in half– it makes her arms look to short for her body– to me, I’m getting a bobble head effect…

she’s kind of like a brunette January Jones. Just the whole package with a really beautiful face and nice thin, figure that can wear about anything. So– I like that she takes risks- but sometimes I just wonder why she doesn’t *really* take risks- because she’s thin enough to really more dramatic looks that could so flattering. (aka I would kill for her figure and wear backless dresses to the grocery store.) ;)

  • http://www.jaimieteekell.com/ Jaimie

I thought the sheer panels were a muted bronzy fabric and was confused. That’s where the shoe choice came from. It matches what I thought was the bronzy fabric.

  • chowwander

The pattern reminds me of Liberty of London fabrics. All to the good. Any info on the shoes?

    • ballerinawithagun

Yes, and I only like the dark Liberty of London. This print is gorgeous.

  • MilaXX

If the only sheer piece was at the waist I would like this better. The coloring is good on her.

  • Fordzo

Of course she is smiling here. It’s pouring rain outside.

    • kimmeister

Cue Garbage’s “I’m Only Happy When it Rains.”

  • decormaven

While not a fan of the sheel panels, this is a very good look for here. A bit autumnal, but acceptable. Love those shoes!

  • Lesley

for once she doesn’t look like she’s on the verge of tears, cheers to a new style direction. well done, love it.

  • Glam Dixie

The color does really flatter her but that dress is not my favorite. My imaginary hardcore all girl band name has always been The Feral Ballerinas.

    • NoveltyRocker

I don’t know why my brain went to it cuz it ain’t hardcore but I just heard, “cat scratch bunheads – wanh wanh wa wanhhhh.”

  • formerlyAnon

Of course you’re right about the color thing. I think it’s a very clever dress, and it looks . . . nice on her. Head to toe she needs to do something more polished with her hair to really do the dress justice. IMO, which is obviously inexpert.

  • kimmeister

The subtle lavender eyeshadow is gorgeous on her.

  • marlie

    I’ll take the shoes, thankyouverymuch.

  • sagecreek

    That’s one weird dress.

  • elemspbee

    Floral Robot–stealing it.
this does not look great on her. Dark colors good for her, but she’s not giving this fine dress the justice it deserves. And the limp hair–killing me.

  • Imasewsure

Not a dress I would normally like but it’s great on her. Love the makeup too

  • conniemd

When I first saw the dress I wondered why it had all these beige bands around the shoulders, arms and waist. Doh. See through sheers

  • SophieCollier

Kinda wish the sleeves were all sheer. That much floral choppiness is sort of dizzying. But she does look very nice in those darker tones.

  • NoveltyRocker

I love seeing her appearances, she always wears something interesting that looks considered, even if it’s sometimes impractical looking. Ever since you mentioned something about her coming off very 70′s in an outfit, I feel like that’s a legit piece of her whole style motif.

  • Shawn EH

I’ts kind of a great X-men dress; looks like it just floats between the slices across her torso. Yeah, she looks great!

  • Anniebet

Not my favorite Erdem design, but she is lovely in it. Love the shoes. She’s another actress (see Emily Blunt) that has lightened her hair to her detriment, IMO. She’s more striking as a brunette.

  • Monabel

The dress and the sheer panels are fine, it is the dark overlay on the skirt that makes me sad.

  • pop_top

If it didn’t have sleeves it might look less…disjointed?

  • fishmermaidman

Gah, she’s just so beautiful in the face.

  • EEKstl

One of these days I’m going to have to disagree with you just for the fun of it, but you crazy newleyweds nailed it as usual. She looks great and yes, those shoes are perfection, wish the sheer on the sleeves weren’t there, but why quibble? She really does look good.

  • librarygrrl64

    Hate the sheer panels.

  • Crystal

This is fun. I think it’d make me twitchy on someone else, but it looks really good on her.
