Robin Wright & Ben Foster in Calvin Klein at the “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints” Screening

Posted on August 14, 2013

These two are a couple? Betcha they’re a barrel of laughs.

Robin Wright and Ben Foster attend the screening of “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints” held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City in Calvin Klein.

Okay, okay. We get it. You’re a couple. You can stop pressing your genitals against each other and making out in front of photographers now. Separate so we can see what you’re wearing. And judge it.

We’re not even going to bother scoring since they both epitomize the Calvin Klein aesthetic to us: perfectly acceptable, nicely tailored, totally boring clothes. There’s little more to say about them than that. Clothing designed to not be talked about.

She gets a nod for looking kind of fierce, but that has more to do with her actual looks than the items she’s wearing and sporting. He just looks cranky and full of himself, which means she definitely has a type, doesn’t she?

Jaimie Lee Curtis and Louis CK.

      • Heather

Now THAT would be a pairing!

I’ve always liked Robin Wright – and after her years with Sean Penn I’m sure this boy seems sweet and wholesome.

    • Lanus

God, I love you for this. I’m not even going to read on. Just drop the microphone and sashay back out, hughman.

    • irielle

I was totally struck by the way she resembled Jaimie Lee Curtis here! They should play sisters in something.

  • Random Compliments

Claire Underwood is my work style goddess.

    • Julie

Glad I’m not the only one who thought that.

    • NBG

She is mesmerizing on House of Cards, both performance and fashion-wise. She has this amazing stillness that perfectly compliments Spacey.

  • Beth513

I think she dropped the Penn, but kept the type. She looks pretty great though.

    • aeb1986

why did she keep his name?

      • DTLAFamilies

Probably for the kids. Pretty common among divorcees, at least until the kids are grown.

        • formerlyAnon

Her professional web site doesn’t use the Penn, so it is probably for family reasons.

      • NBG

She did not. On House of Cards and in every recent article I have seen about her, she is referred to as Robin Wright.

      • AnaRoW

        She didn’t.

  • d4divine

    TLo…you nailed it!!

  • suzinrva

She is awesome. He is damn lucky. His cool factor has gone up +100

  • megohd

I remember when she was Kelly Capwell and had all that gorgeous hair. She’s still gorge, just with less hair.

    • carolynmo

      Loved that soap.

    • sagecreek

I named my first dog Kelly, you are one of the only people who knows why 🙂

  • Jaime

Robin is one of those women who is ethereally beautiful on screen, in motion, but for some reason it never translates to still photographs. I don’t understand. (that haircut does her no favors, either.)

    • Sarah

I’m frikkin’ gorgeous in real life. It’s photos of me that are cursed. Isn’t that the way with everyone?? 😉

      • kimmeister

Yes, but there are people who are the opposite too. I know a gal who is cute in real life, but in photos somehow she metamorphoses into a smoking hot siren. It’s uncanny.

        • Sarah

Ahh. I was just talking to a co-worker five minutes ago about how I lived next door to a girl in college that turned out to be a model. I would never have guessed because she was pretty plain looking to me (not ugly, just, basic?) But when we got to be pals she showed me her portfolio and she was amazing. She had the kind of face you could change into whatever you needed with makeup, which she explained was actually a boon in her field. It made me think again about what a “model” is.

          • That’s one thing Tyra Banks has demonstrated on America’s Next Top Model. Some girls are so photogenic. It’s a matter of face proportions and how light bounces of the face—or something like that. In fact, Tyra enjoys transforming the “ugly duckling” type.

          • Sarah

Think you’re right. She’s a mother hen, all right.

      • 3boysful

You just made me laugh aloud.

  • ashtangajunkie

I like her hair better a bit longer, like the cut she has on House of Cards. She’s really gorgeous. He is a big ol’ meh for me.

  • Julie

I think my brain grew another wrinkle when I learned that she starred in The Princess Bride and Forrest Gump.

    • madscntst

      That was HER?!

      • Julie

Google image search it! Mind blown in 3… 2… 1….

        • madscntst

      • 3boysful

Ahhh, you guys aren’t old enough. I immediately thought Princess Bride when I saw her name.

        • fursa_saida

I’m a young’un and it was my first thought.

        • Jessica O’Connell

I’m probably one of the younger bitter kittens (25), but I will always think of her firstly as Buttercup.

          • Kimbolina

Same here (24 y.o.) Princess Bride was the first thing I think I ever saw with her in it so that always comes to mind first.

    • Sarah

Aww. That you didn’t immediately think “What has happened to Princess Buttercup’s HAIR?” belies your youth. (And the fact that I don’t know what she’s been up to lately shows my age, I guess…)

      • Julie

She really picked some great roles. I can’t look at these photos without hearing the way Princess Buttercup said “farmboy,” or Jenny would say “Forrest,” with a slight drawl.

        • kimmeister

          “Farmboy, fetch me that pitcher.”

          • Sarah

Ha guess that line was iconic. Like most of the dialogue in that movie…

          • Little_Olive

“My name is Iñigo Montoya….” is a classic in my family. And with Mark Knopfler music in the background. Ah, the old kids movies.

          • kimmeister

I particularly love the music during the swordfight between Wesley and Inigo!

          • kimmeister

Exactly, I have most of that movie memorized, as do many of my friends! Sometimes I have to whip out “you miserable vomitous mass” or the line about matching wits with a Sicilian when death is on the line.

          • Sarah

Never fight a land war in Asia, either. And have fun storming the castle!

          • Pennymac

“Have fun storming the castle” is said in my house every time some one leaves to do something they dread….

          • fursa_saida

I rewatched it for the first time in a while a few months ago because a friend hadn’t seen it, and I was startled how many phrases I commonly use were actually cribbed from it! I first saw it when I was very young, so they always seemed like just something I said. (Not everything, of course, but a lot of lines.)

          • AnneElliot

          • Goldie

There is an Inigo Montoya twitter account that automatically replies “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.” whenever anyone says that.

          • out for a walk

Your pig fiance is too late!

        • Sarah

I still say “Farmboy, fetch me that pitcher?” to my fella sometimes. He looks at me like I’m a weirdo. Which, thank goodness, he likes.

          • kimmeister

Does your fella respond, “As you wish”?

          • Sarah

No. He says “I’m gonna sic an R.O.U.S. on you if you don’t stop ordering me around” or something to that effect. He thinks he’s funny.

      • 3boysful

        Oops–shoulda read further before posting.

        • Sarah

She will be Buttercup for some of us forever, won’t she? Doesn’t mean she’s not a talented and lovely actress now, though. Perhaps that legacy has led her to a more severe style in current times, though. I think she looks good, but a little softer an outfit would’ve been prettier, to my way of thinking.

    • Heather

Wait… you had to LEARN this? That was where us Old Folks first encountered her!

      • teensmom99

I was going to say that I first encountered her in the magnificent “The Playboys,” but my friends at IIMDB indicate that Princess Bride came 1st. It’s really hard out there for us older BKs.

  • kimmeister

His principal accessory appears to be a scowl.

Her attire is fine, but I don’t think that’s her haircut.

  • Little_Olive

Boy, that 6 pm meeting drained her and now she has to put the kids to bed, ’cause Blonde David Arquette here sure won’t.

    • alyce1213

Extra points for “blonde David Arquette.”

    • formerlyAnon

Though the youngest Penn kid is 18 or 19, so not so burdensome. (I don’t know why i know that her kids are about the same age as mine when there is so much useful knowledge I can’t retain to save my life . . . )

  • Little_Olive

Also: dude, you don’t have a right to be pissed when your poorly fit shirt lets us see your belly. Go home.

    • alyce1213

And he sure doesn’t have the right to be pissed when he’s canoodling with Robin Wright.

      • Pennymac

        He’s a scowly little man, isn’t he?

        • Heather

He looks a great deal like the twink in the American Apparel ads that keep popping up on my screen. Only, he’s wearing more than a pair of panties.

        • kirkyo

Yes and for some reason I think it’s sexy.

  • Jenna Marie

I’m surprised their together… Though he seems to fit her type. All I can think of him as is that kid from Flash Forward.

    • MartyBellerMask

I’ve never seen that but he was amazing on Six Feet Under.

  • TigerLaverada

I LOVE her, ever since the beyond-wonderful Princess Bride. I don’t care what she wears, she’s wonderful. And she somehow survived Sean Penn.

  • bassfemme

That third hand in picture #7 is disconcerting.

  • Perigee

He’s 14 years younger than she is, but they look the same age. I guess that she looks seven years younger and he looks seven years older. Anyway, she is gorgeous, even when wearing boring clothes. He looks better without the beard, and is a good actor, but seems douchey, and clothes don’t help with that.

    • tereliz

He is four years younger than Fred Savage! (Sorry, I can’t keep from making Princess Bride related comparisons) I know I should be more open-minded about this, but a guy that is fourteen years younger than me would be 20 right now. Uh, no. But I will reevaluate in ten years…

  • Valdri8

Jinx – I was thinking of her during the Nicole Kidman post; she is the anti-Kidman. She does not look as though she has done one thing to her face, and looks gorgeous. She should be the poster child for aging gracefully.

  • JulieTy

I confess that I try to anticipate TLo’s comments as I scroll down.
Imagine my surprise –nay, shock! — when they didn’t mention that he neglected to wear an undershirt, thereby exposing extremely douchey (sp?) chest and belly hair (see photo #5).

  • sagecreek

Oh, dear. She looks like she is still channeling her House of Cards character.

    • Lilak

Indeed … she told a journalist at this event that she came directly from work, still in costume.

    • MilaXX

I was going to say the exact thing. He’s bordering on douche-y looking though. I know we complain about men celebs not wearing color, but I don’t like that shiny burgundy on him.

  • When someone as fantastic as she, looks so very unremarkable, it bums me out. And he may be a teddy bear, but he looks like a grump ass.

  • berkeleygirl

She definitely dropped the Penn! Can’t blame her, especially now that she’s dating a considerably younger actor… She’s gorgeous.

  • clatie

ben foster is an insufferable little bitch. if she is into him, she’s an idiot.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

    Thank you, TLo!!

  • Fordzo

She’s making me think of Renee Zellweger, and that’s not necessarily a good thing.

  • marlie

The best looking couple at the office happy hour.

  • bellafigura1

He looks like Sean Penn lite.

  • thecitysleeps

I love what she’s wearing so much. I don’t know her much but she looks like someone I want to be like when I grow up. Fierce as shit. Love the skirt and shoes.

  • Diego!

She looks AMAZING!!! Fierce as sh*t! He looks OK.

  • mhleta

This is not a frivolous woman, and so these clothes are perfect for her. I support this sort of dressing 100% and don’t find it boring at all, but rather, sophisticated, smart and pretty damn sexy.

  • Angela_the_Librarian

It makes me a bit sad to see Ben Foster looking so dour. I remember him as a cute kid on a Disney show called Fast Forward (his role on Six Feet Under was obviously a total 180). In the last picture of him it looks like the buttons are gaping and you can see his stomach..not a good look.

I think Robin Wright looks wonderful here.

  • This couple is either in the middle of a fight, or they did not want to attend this screening. The dark colors that they’re sporting hides the details and fit of their clothing. I think Robin may have thin hair, and she doesn’t want to bother with fake hair. This hairstyle does nothing for her. She’s such a talented pretty woman; I’d love to see her win an Oscar or receive accolades of some kind.

  • BuffaloBarbara

Wow. She’s turning into Jamie Lee Curtis. I don’t know that it’s a bad thing — I like JLC — but my first thought was that she’d gone blond, and I was expecting some kind of yogurt related event.

  • Chuck Barthelme

Ick, no undershirt, and the bottom few buttons are straining so much you can see his gut. Yucky yuck yuck yuck.

  • SportifLateBoomer

She’s 14 years older than he is. My role model! We also share a taste for cranky, full of themselves men. Role model, not so much…

I’ve always thought she was stunningly gorgeous, and real. Nice she seems to be aging naturally. I discovered him recently in the Marilyn Monroe documentary and found his intensity captivating.

    • meowing

Per Wikipedia, she’s 47. Maybe it’s the severe clothes, but she looks a little older here, altho’ she is lovely. Not famiiar with her work or her style: does she ever wear more color or pizazze clothing?

  • Shawn EH

He always looks like that. I’ve never gotten over his Six Feet Under character. Either the best or worst acting I’d ever seen. She’s giving us Classic Mia, Sinatra years, but all grown up.

  • mommyca

Was he Claire’s crazy artist boyfriend on Six Feet Under?

    • Shawn EH

He was the really neurotic art student who slept with her (male) teacher while also sleeping with her. Which she did not view kindly.

      • mommyca

ok! that’s what I remembered! I haven’t seen him in any other show/movie…

  • ‘Becca’lise Deveaux

    Buttercup and Tucker??

  • crash1212

Robin Wright has been one of my favorite actors since her days on Santa Barbara – eons ago – I love her and she always looks chic. She’s not a fashionista, but she turns it out according to her style. Don’t care a lick about the guy.

  • mishka

Jeez, I thought that was Ryan Gosling in the thumbnail. That smolder!

  • Terri Terri

  • MzzPants

In terms of aging gracefully, Nicole Kidman should take a lesson or two from Robin.

    • are you laura bennett or does your avatar just look like her? very cool.

  • akprincess72

    Dang she’s pretty though!

  • MartyBellerMask

No beating around the bush here. He looks like shit.
And yah, they’ve been together for like a year now I think.

  • Cate

Ugh, that facial hair is aging him something fierce. He’s 32, but looks about 50.

  • guest2visits

Since I hardly remember seeing Robin as anything but sad and pensive; this is a nice change. Happy and relaxed.

  • but wait, isn’t that a purple suit. he should get an award for wearing a purple suit and making it boring. she is meanwhile working her jamie lee curtis in mourning look.
