Robert Pattinson on the Set of “Maps to the Stars”

Posted on August 19, 2013

Robert should wear his hair like this all the time. We were never fans of the big vampire hair. We know it’s something to run your fingers though and all, but since he went through an extended period of looking like he bathes on a positively Elizabethan schedule, any fantasies of running fingers through that greasy, flake-speckled mop evaporated pretty quickly.

Robert Pattinson films a scene for the upcoming flick “Maps to the Stars” in Los Angeles.

This is the look, Robert. This is almost certainly a costume for the movie, but it’s pretty much his post-Twilight look now and it’s something he should stick with for a good while. Crisp suits, grooming, short hair, a la George Clooney. That’s the way to go. Like the Clooney, he’s one of those guys who really can’t go without good grooming. He instantly looks homeless. But shed no tears for him, because he’s also one of those guys who looks amazing if he just keeps it up and puts the work in.

  • But,…What’s with the shirt only tucked in in the front? its making me a little nutty. (okay, okay, a little nutty-er)

    • kmk05

He was busy in the limo okay? No one questions Robert Ex-Sparkles!

    • Jacqueline Wessel

Me too. I have been waiting patiently for this half-tuck thing to go out of style. That and the distressed look especially when applied to type.

  • GillianHolroyd

“bathes on a(n) … Elizabethan schedule”

I live for these bon mots.

    • Girl_With_a_Pearl

A friend of mine once to referred to a ex-roommate in college as someone who only bathed on presidents’ birthdays, but “bathes on a(n) Elizabethan schedule” made me almost spill my coffee and works better in Pattinson’s case.

  • kmk05

He looks like a really thin bouncer. On the other hand, I hated his Twilight hair too, so… at least he looks like he bathes! When he smiles I totally see the appeal.

  • Not being a Twidiot, I have never gotten the appeal of this man. I was too bored and uninterested to try to figure it out during Water For Elephants. But if this is him looking good, I don’t think I’ll ever see the attraction.

    • marlie

I’ve never been a fan either, but compared to his Twilight-era hair and poor grooming habits, this is positively swoon-worthy.

    • Stella Zawistowski

Amen, sister. The Edward Cullenophiles can have him.

    • ashtangajunkie

I don’t get it either and it will take more than a suit and a haircut (and a shower, I guess) to convince me. Then again, I’ve never seen any of the Twilight films, which probably immediately puts me into a “What the hell does she know?” category according to all Twilight fans.

      • RebeccaKW

I haven’t seen the movies either, but I did see him in that one Harry Potter movie (one of maybe 3 I’ve seen, on tv when I was bored) and…I still don’t get the appeal. So, I am happy to move aside and let anyone else have him while I go back to drooling over Idris Elba and Hugh Jackman.

        • ashtangajunkie

          I hope you’re willing to share. 🙂

    • Imasewsure

i finally got the “it factor” when I saw him in one of the magazine spreads we shared oh so long ago… he nailed the shoot and I could see that “something” in him that sort of makes him more than your average Brit boy heartthrob. Not my type necessarily but I get it anyway

  • StellaZafella

He’s got a great profile and his face really looks best when he uses it, i.e.: Allows some expression to cross it.
Kudos on the suit and hair…hope he keeps it up. He doesn’t have to try for fashion icon…but a little dapper will do.

    • formerlyAnon

Absolutely agree he has a face much improved by expression. Though that’s my general belief about all faces, it takes that for me to take much interest in this one. He falls into the category of : the perfect best friend’s love interest. I can honestly agree with praise of his looks, and honestly feel zero jealousy.

      • StellaZafella

I’ve expressed naughty thoughts about my share of the “blue steel” faces on this site…but regardless of dentistry or complexion, age or intellect – nothing, NOTHING is more perfect than an expression of sincere amusement…it can make beautiful people interesting, and ‘plain’ faces stunningly attractive.

        • formerlyAnon

True, though I’ll maintain that the face that lights up like the sun when greeting a friend is neck & neck. Double bonus points if I’m the friend and we’re somewhere on the “more than friends” spectrum.

  • barbarienne

Holy smokes, what a difference a haircut and clothes make. This is the only time I’ve ever found him even vaguely attractive. (Yeah, just vaguely. Eh, well, everyone likes different things.)

    • 1carmelita

I know! The reason for his popularity always has eluded me, but now I can almost see what the younger girls see in him. Still not my type, but a lot better looking!

      • barbarienne

Yes, precisely. “Not my type, but now I understand why other people would find him attractive.”

  • Chris

He had the longer hairdo in the Harry Potter movie and it looked good. I think the key difference is *washing* regardless of cut. It’s amazing what a difference clean hair makes.

    • Rhonda Shore

He has amazing bone structure, i don’t think he could look bad.

    • terpsichory

I was under the impression this penchant for long(ish) hair in vampire lore comes from the fact that it doesn’t grow after death. The reasoning being ‘better preserve what you’ve got – who knows what’s in style 200 years from now’.

But then, I haven’t read the books, so I don’t know whether this applies to the Twilight vamps.

I think he looks good. Like one one of McGregor’s Trainspotting buddies.

  • MarTeaNi

…no, I can’t do it. I never like it when guys have that little bro-flip to the bangs.

    • Jamie M.

Right? I say just do a buzz cut at that point.

  • marlie

The bathed and groomed look suits him. Add to that a well-fitting (well-ish fitting) g suit… He should stick with this.

  • MilaXX

The grooming is pretty good. I just didn’t realize he’s naturally so pale.

  • Not applicable

just in time for lunch- yum!

  • Eric Stott

He looks refreshingly normal and even a little goofy.

  • nannypoo

Shaved it to get rid of the nits.

  • Cautiously Pessimistic

I have a feeling the not-bathing during the extended Twilight pole dance was some sort of social experiment, to see if girls really would continue to fawn over him when he looked less groomed than the Unabomber.

I personally don’t get the appeal, but he really does look much better with what couldn’t have been much effort.

  • Jaeda Laurez

Still not for me, but he definitely looks better with that hair, and whatever Austin Powers-level hose down process they used to get him to that point.

  • Sara Brams-Miller

I think we should make up the plot of the movie . . .

    • conniemd

The movie is by David Cronenberg, who while being more mainstream lately, can still come up with plots that you couldn’t even dream about, like eating body parts, human to insect conversions, etc. (Says this dedicated Viggophile, speaking of which if you could ever get some Viggo pics for sausage Friday it would be greatly appreciated by older women like myself who also love really mature men, in addition to young guilty pleasures)

  • Qitkat

Wasn’t sure it was him til the third picture down. The hair is okay I guess, but he’ll never be as cute as Jamie Bell, my new inappropriate 27-year-old crush of the moment.

    • formerlyAnon

When the odds of ever meeting the wee young thing are approximately nil, there is no way that it can be inappropriate if the crushee is of the legal age to have had sex (or to have done whatever is the logical conclusion of your particular crush).

      And Bell is damn cute.

      • Qitkat

Thanks for putting it in context! I think it’s because I have sons older than this, and I would die rather than admit any of these bitter kitten confessionals to them! Another reason to keep this and facebook in different universes from one another.

        • formerlyAnon

Yes. My online presence is a bit splintered for that exact reason. I think my son could deal, but my daughter would really rather not know.

          • Qitkat

Totally understand. I wish I had professional reasons. Well, I semi do, in a vague, artist kind of way.

          • formerlyAnon

Based on what I experience and observe, nowadays, excepting professions that require licensing or credentials, if you call it “professional” it IS “professional” for most purposes. When challenged, that someone somehow somewhere paid you for some aspect of what you’re doing is helpful, but it doesn’t seem to have to be directly related, a large payment, or even come from someone who is not a close friend or family member. I meet a lot of people who are doing something “professionally” mostly in the spirit of hope and optimism.

(And people like yourself who hesitate to claim professionalism seem to often be better qualified than the more brash – possibly because they take their field seriously or maybe because they better understand what it takes to really *be* competent and skilled.)

(And gosh don’t I sound like an old codger bemoaning the decline and fall of Proper Standards? I didn’t quite mean it like that.)

          • Qitkat

You can’t possibly know how your comment touches me. I especially like “the spirit of hope and optimism.” Thank you Anon. As for “bemoaning the decline and fall of Proper Standards,” I’ll raise you and show my cards, as I just opined similarly on another post, but somewhat less tactfully.

  • elirt

The first shot looks like Ewan McGregor, which got me very excited! MOAR EWAN!

  • joanna dash

    Ooooh mama likey.

  • crash1212

He doesn’t do anything for me, but this hair is infinitely better than previous looks.

  • theblondette

I don’t find him attractive, but I do find him quite endearing. And how much happier and cleaner he looks since the Twilight poledancing finally ended!

  • Danielle

    That’s an improvement. *Applauds*

  • lily

why people seem to reluctan to praise him and need to clarify that they hate twilight?. “i dont like him, but he does look good” what is that mean?

    • Imasewsure

It’s an over-exposure problem… too much R-Pat with too much excessive praise means that we sometimes need to over-clarify how much we are NOT in to him even if we are giving him some slight praise… We should ask Anne Hathaway (ugh) and Gwynnie P. (ugh) for their thoughts on the subject….

      • lily

i’m wondering what people say about his upcoming dior ads.

  • CeeQ

Holy crap Cedric Diggory is looking all kinds of HOT DAMN here. I am loving it, obvs.

  • This is the first time I’ve ever seen him look even slightly appealing. He should stick with this awhile.

  • a_liking

aw, I guess I’m the only one who misses the big floppy hair. (when it was clean, at least.)

    • formerlyAnon

      No, you’re not.

  • Shawn EH

He looks tall and young. I hate him.

  • pugluv

He is lovely…I can’t help myself, he is one of my guilty pleasures!

  • ShaoLinKitten

I never understood all the love for RPattz. Not all that cute, always looks like his feet smell. I concede that his hair looks better now than it did in the days of the greasy Edward ‘do.

  • Lanus

Yes to Cedric, No to Edward. This is somewhere in the middle, methinks.

  • CommentsByKatie

Nope.jpg. I am not a Twilight fan, but for me he was ridiculously hot in that. He looks like a tagalong little brother at a wedding in these pictures to me. Not carrying it off. I think he needs that big hair to go with his big features.

  • Anniebet

The adoration for this guy has always baffled me, but I do understand why the Twilight target audience would adopt him as their pet. This is the first time I’ve seen him look nicely put together. The hair is sooo much better. He’s still not a handsome dude, but he’s interesting looking here.
