Rihanna in Tom Ford in New York City

Posted on August 15, 2013

Rihanna may get a little trashy now and then; disappoint the disapproving public or dress in a less-than fabulous manner, but make no mistake…

Rihanna steps out in New York City in Tom Ford.

Tom Ford Fall 2013 Collection/Model: Aymeline Valade

This bitch is a DIVA.

That gown is insane. She looks like she can exfoliate her face just by looking down and moving her head around. It’s a dress and a makeup-remover! But we don’t care. Girl is wearing a faux zebra-and-monkey-fur gown. How can we not love it? The goal of a diva is to constantly divert all attention toward herself. Mission accomplished, Ri.

I am so happy to see her hair short again. Her face is insanely gorgeous. She is definitely pulling the dress off. Even if the neckline makes me itchy just looking at it.

    • Courtenay P

praise the lord. thank you rihanna.

    • MikeW_Vegas

When did Cruella deVil move from Dalmatian puppies to Madagascar Zebras??

      • Bethany Roullett

        Exact. Same. Thought.

      • fursa_saida

I’m not sure exactly why, but your icon makes this even funnier.

    • marlie

OMG, I *LOVE* this! It’s crazy and diva-tastic, and perfect for RiRi.

      • kim bunchalastnames

me, too. much to my surprise, actually. i love the way the … collar? … frames her face. and the rest of it is “get OUT OF MY WAY” diva. brava!

        • kim bunchalastnames

plus, those rings? genius with this.

    • Sue_Asponte

      WERQ! She is fierce.

    • kimmeister

Her hair looks fantastic in that exact color/cut. I would like the dress so much more without the hair collar.

      • Sarah

Jeez, me too. I don’t like animal prints, but I can admit she looks fierce in this. I just think the hair collar looks like a punishment separate from the dress, like she had to wear it as a penance or something.

    • Tatiana Luján

Plus, her hair and makeup are insanely gorgeous. Well, it’s her face what is insanely gorgeous, but the hair and makeup help to show it in the best way possible, as they should always do.

      • DilettanteDeconstructed

Her face is flawless here. That haircut is much more flattering than the grey she had for a while, too.

    • Tatiana Luján

And ladystars, THIS is how you put makeup in your eyebrows, it shouldn’t be noticeable.

      • VictoriaDiNardo

Thank you! Pet peeve. I’m still shuddering over those caterpillars on Julianne Hough’s face..

    • Karen Belgrad

I love how every person around her in all of the photos is dressed for the mall. It adds the perfect amount of WTF-ery Diva to the pics.

      • DilettanteDeconstructed

Plot twist: she actually is going out to the mall. Probably for a Auntie Anne’s pretzel and a hotdog on a stick.

        • Karen Belgrad

Maybe she found a mall that has a Contempo Casual so she can buy a velvet dress like Katy Perry?

    • Judy_S

She is beautiful but the dress looks hideous to me. It actually makes me think of certain skating costumes that involved painted illusion (and the idea of a costume that is meant to say “IRhianna has chosen to represent a Zebra, which represents Africa, in her Long Program”). Perhaps it looks better in person.

      • rajf

Yes, she’s beautiful and all I could think was former-show-girl-lounge-around-the-house-robe/caftan.

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Best dressed at this year’s Halloween party, for sure.

    • flamingoNW

That’s pretty freakin’ awesome and she’s probably wearing it to go out for sushi, which is even better.

      • Slanted & Enchanted

        Hahaha, I certainly hope so!

    • filmcricket

Oh man, serious snaps. I can’t imagine too many more people who could remotely work that gown (I thought it was a coat at first), and her hair and make-up look ah-maz-ing. Congratulations on your face, RiRi.

    • StellaZafella

See above for the definition of “Fierce”.

Aside: Didn’t Chris March get reamed by PR judges for using hair in his final designs? It seems the forward thinkers never get due credit.

      • Jamie M.

I totally remember that. I also remember thinking that it wasn’t that bad even though the judges were creeped out by it.

        • Eric Stott

Well, there’s a bit of a difference, though admittedly more in perception than in fact. This is monkey hair which you can qualify as some sort of fur. Chris March used Human Hair and just that concept alone is kinda creepy.

          • VictoriaDiNardo

I doubt that’s monkey fur – at least I hope it’s not. That’s pretty illegal these days. Looks more like feathers burned to look like that. I use then in hat trims.

            • Eric Stott

Sort of like a substitute for Egret feathers?

Anyhow, what ever they are they’re fairly ugly as a neckpiece

          • H3ff

No one bats an eyelid when 90% of celebrities wear human hair extensions, which I find much more creepy.

      • Jessica Freeman

Yes, and then it seemed that a few designers actually started doing it.

      • anyalama

I was just going to comment on this and I’m so glad I’m not alone. I thought it was pretty cool when he did it on PR way back when. I love Chris March and I loved his finale collection.

      • formerlyAnon

I never got the criticism, though I concede that popular opinion differs from my own. I mean, these people wear hair pieces and wigs of real human hair, and that seems rather more intimate than trimming a dress.

Of course, the Gorey-esque gowns using the hair for trim he made for that finale are probably my favorite work he did on the show and inspired my first-ever comment after months of lurking, so I am biased.

    • ErmengardeGreen

      AMAZING. Serengeti Cruella de Vil.

    • BrooklynBomber

I like her haircut. Does she still record and perform? Or is just a professional mannequin now?

      • Bexxx

She comes out with a new album like, every six months. Not even an exaggeration. Pretty sure she’s on her “Diamonds” tour right now.

        • BrooklynBomber

Oh, wow. Thanks for filling me in.

    • Denise Alden

It’s sort of a modern-day Eartha Kitt Catwoman, isn’t it?

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Only Miss Ri could make this insanity look chic. Attadiva.

    • Lilyana_F

No one can pull this off better than her! SNAPS!

    • bellafigura1

      I rest my case.

    • Imasewsure

I like the more feminine hair on the model since the neckline is so severe but this is all kinds of fab anyway. Love that RiRi can and does rock this shit every once in awhile

    • Ashley Ellen Wilson

GORGEOUS. I love this. I wish it were a WERQ.

    • Jaeda Laurez

Love it. When she throws down, she’s absolutely stunning.

    • stubbornthoughts

She is giving some major modern Liza. I dig it.

    • SewingSiren

Everything is to die. Hair. Make-up , shoes, cut out placement on the gown, and jewelry. All spot on.

    • quitasarah

That collar is making me rashy just looking at it.

    • random_poster

      Let’s play a game!

      a) has a neck made of Teflon.
      b) is taking numbing drugs, and can’t feel a thing!
      c) had her people strap her arms/hands down.
      d) is such a diva that even monkey-fur is afraid to do anything more than gently lay upon her.

      • Rand Ortega

Tell here what she’s won, Don Pardo!

      • MikeW_Vegas

The answer to this is OBVIOUSLY “D”

      • formerlyAnon

    • Rand Ortega

Kick. Ass. Fierce! They should cast her in the next 1 of those movies all the kids love these days. Better yet, she should have her own superhero movie.

    • frannyprof

Don’t hate me, but I don’t think she has the height to carry it off. But the face & hair are gorgeous.

    • Anniebet

I’m trying to figure out for which event this outfit might even be slightly appropriate. Of course with her, it might be grocery shopping, if she ever deigned to do such an activity.

      • Nondescript

Every event. I love this dress, and there is nothing I don’t want her to wear it to. :)

        • Anniebet

I can totally see her at a baby shower in it.

          • Nondescript

Baby shower, presidential inaugural ball, waiting for clothes to dry at the laundromat, while playing soccer – the possibilities are endless.

      • Nita

It was a video shoot for a song called “Fashion Killer”

    • Eric Stott

It’s a questionable dress, but she’s wearing the HELL out of it!

    • demidaemon

After seeing this, I prefer when she wears less clothes. I can’t get behind this dress. It’s a combination of uptight (despite the sheer, amazingly) and ugly.

    • LaSylphide

Her posture makes the dress look better than it should. And I love her hair.

    • MilaXX

It’s a WERQ for me. This is flawless.

    • crash1212

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

She is wearing the fuck out of that ridiculous dress. Go her.

    • e jerry powell

She’s wearing the actual runway sample, isn’t she?

    • conniemd

I have a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact the Rihanna and Shelly O both can WERQ clothes from Tom Ford. Talk about polar opposites.

    • kirkyo

The dress…I can’t even…but her hair is awesome.

    • formerlyAnon

My usual thought: She is just so pretty.

And here, she actually lets herself be seen as pretty. I have my doubts about the collar (mostly because it looks insanely annoying) but I really like this on her and it’s darn near a WERQ in my book.

Special recognition that someone had the commonsense to pair that collar with the very short hair.

    • lalagigi

Her face is flawless. She looks like a Barbie doll – and I mean that in a good way.

    • VicksieDo

    • MzzPants

      Fierce. Bitch.

    • quiltrx

It looks like an art class project that was being enjoyed so much that the little girl making it couldn’t stop, and it got huge.

    • fiestyfashionfem

It’s so Bob Mackie. Don’t you think?

    • kathrineb

LOL looking fierce even if the collar reminds me of troll doll hair.

    • Joey Melliza

clearly a statement dress – if the statement said: Bitch I’m a Zebra, deal with it!

    • bertkeeter

Lion King re-make? TF …what were you thinking?

    • Kate

      Bitch is regal.

    • Getoverit

Love the dress minus the fur. At first glance it made me think she had a mullet.

    • ~Heather

How much awesome would it have been if she had jumped on the bike (in pic #6) and ridden off through the city night?!

    • carnush

That just looks really uncomfortable and itchy.

    • CeeRich

Werking the ish out of this look. Need her red lipstick STAT.

    • Warrior89

Short pixie hair is such a good look for her.
