This merited a semi-surprised “Oh” from us before we could stop it. And that’s a good thing, right? It’s not like we followed it up with a concerned and condescending “… DEAR.” It’s just that the look was kind of declarative and unexpected and we responded. So, points for that, Rachel.

But we’re leaning toward not supporting this one. First off, that belt is really awful and distracting. It turns a highly dramatic gown into something from a child’s dress-up box. It’s clumsy and focus-pulling and you’d need to be a size 0 for it to look good on you. And it’s a shame, because we like the idea of this look. We like a dramatic non-bridal white gown with these coolly futuristic strips of color on the back. We like the idea of shoulderpads here. But the fit is truly bad throughout and you can’t half-ass such things when you’re wearing a dress like this. The fit has to be impeccable here. It could’ve been a real head-turner, but the best it can manage is a chorus of “Oh”s, we’re thinking.
