Oprah in Escada on “David Letterman”

Posted on August 01, 2013

CLEAR THE SIDEWALK, BITCHES. OPRAH’S COMING THROUGH.

Bowing is appreciated, but not required.

Oprah Winfrey makes an appearance on the “Late Show with David Letterman” to talk about her new movie Lee Daniel’s “The Butler” in New York City in an Escada color block ‘Dolma’ dress from the Fall 2013 collection.

Escada Fall 2013 Collection

It’s weird to think of Oprah making the talk show rounds, poledancing for her latest movie. It feels like she should be above such things. Like everyone in America should just get a free ticket to an Oprah movie. Then again, you can bet Oprah paid for every dress, shoe and piece of jewelry she wears for this poledance BECAUSE SHE’S OPRAH AND OPRAH DON’T BORROW SHIT. You have to love her for that. Especially since she’s clearly not reaching for the understated side of her jewelry closet at the moment.

What? You thought Oprah had a jewelry box? Peasant, please.

Anyway, she looks good here. It’s all perhaps a bit too coordinated, with the gray/silver & black theme continuing into the accessories. We would have liked one (cliched, we admit) pop of color somewhere here. But the value of owning your poledance clothes, instead of having them lent to you, is that everything tends to fit better. Sure, the dress is pulling and wrinking a bit, but she’s getting out of a limo, waving and walking. It really does fit her really, really well. As do the shoes. Not the slightest heel gap or toe overhang. Oprah knows how to get it done, and she’s not waiting on some skinny bitch stylist to figure out how to make a sample size work on her. Oprah will pay to have that dress made and fitted exactly to her specifications, thank you. And her hair looks really cute.

God, could you imagine trying to style Oprah? Talk about intimidating.

Lady looks awesome. Gotta say it.

      • http://www.GiftedCollector.com/ The Gifted Collector

This is just about the best she’s looked in years, but there must be some serious scaffolding under that dress.

Someone else must have designed this for her since she has very pedestrian taste and no idea of what suits her body.

      • mariahwg

What I love is that her face reads it. You can see her thinking “I am a rockstar right now. But these spanx are killing me.”

    • Diego!

She is rocking it!!! She looks amazing in my opinion. You go Oprah! Tell them how it is done! :)

    • sagecreek

She looks good here. I don’t like her as much as I used to, but she looks damn good here.

    • marlie

She looks fabulous. She’s struggled with her style in the past, but this really knocks it out of the park.

Also, I didn’t know that she always buys her stuff, and I absolutely appreciate her for that.

    • flamingoNW

That’s a fantastic dress on her. Amazing

      • Kristin McNamara

Damn straight it is. I want one! It’s really really pretty. (Especially since I dress almost exclusively in black, white, and gray.)

        • mlle

It looks like it might be Tahari. I bought a very similar dress (front zip, similar placement of the colour blocks) last summer, though mine is purple and sleeveless.

          • Jane Patterson

That line of clothes is gorgeous! Pity it doesn’t go above a 14.

            • melisaurus

              It does if you’re Oprah.

    • NBG

Talk about working your curves. Well done, Miss Lady. Well done.

    • Tamara Hogan

I think she looks awesome. Double snaps, Oprah!

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

      Oprah be praised.

    • gabbilevy

Gurl looks great. I covet her curls.

      • Meg0GayGuys6

Yea, her hair looks fantastic like this!

    • julnyes

Luhv her hair and if someone tried to make me tell Oprah what to do, I would happily throw myself off a cliff.

      • Aurumgirl

You’d have to somehow make her believe it was all her idea. Ha ha.

    • eowyn_of_rohan

The guy in the pink in the background (third picture) is staring at the ground like he’s thinking “Oprah saw into my soul and saw every bad thing I’ve done. I feel awful now.” Oprah’s like Galadriel that way. Can’t pull shit past her.

      • chowwander

If he approached her she could just say: “YOUR COMING TO US IS AS THE FOOTSTEPS OF DOOM.” And then she could swich to Eowyn mode and shout, “BEGONE, FOUL DWIMMERLAIK, LORD OF CARRION!”
(I’ll retreat back into my geek closet now. Byeeeeeeee.)

        • eowyn_of_rohan

YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!! (is there room for me in your geek closet? i mean…look at my name)

          • chowwander

            Gurl, Rohan REPRESENT. #RohirrimSNAPS

            • http://myriameron.blogspot.com/ Heron

Riders of the Mark in the hizzouse!!

          • chowwander

(P.S. Not much room in my geek closet. Too many sonic screwdrivers, Black Canary fishnets, hitchhiker towels, Yoda ears, Energon cubes, Synergy earrings, and the Kosh encounter suit is waaaaaay huge. Sorry.)

    • Jessica Freeman

I’m loving the outfit, but what is that in her hair? Is it a clip?

      • kimmeister

I’ve been trying to figure out if it’s a headband or a barrette. Jury’s still out.

      • Meg0GayGuys6

I thought it looked like one of those metal clips hair dressers use.

      • Robin Ewing

Whatever it is, I’m sure it has diamonds.

      • chowwander

It’s Oprah’s version of a James Bond trinket. Now what can it do?

        • mlle

When she hits the button, it summons her getaway copter.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

I was hoping it was not a second pair of sunglasses, but it could be. She’s got so much hair on her head that maybe she forgot about putting a pair up there. :P

    • Glam Dixie

Love her hair and those shoes are fabulous, my only minor quibble is the uni-boob but when they’re that big it’s hard to not have that happen.

    • Ashleigh

she looks GREAT !! you go girrrrrrrl

    • nannypoo

I love everything about this, and the shoes and accessories are perfect. I like the neutral colorblocking. I wonder if putting the medium color in the front instead of the lightest color would have been a little more flattering to her bust. But no matter what she does she is fabulous. Her new movie looks interesting. I always welcome an opportunity to see Forest Whittaker, who I think is absolutely adorable as well as a great actor.

      • ballerinawithagun

I agree with changing to the medium gray down the center. I would also cut away the neckline so that the bust are doesn’t go all the way to her neck, which would also help with the uni-boob look that somebody else mentioned.

      • vickiefantastico

He is one of my favorite actors. This may sound silly, but I first fell in love with him in Phenomenon.

Oh, and Oprah looks gorgeous. Flawless to me.

    • nicewilliams

Wait, is this a thing I didn’t know about? Oprah doesn’t borrow? Or is my lack of morning coffee creating a blockage for deciphering facetiousness?

      • PastryGoddess

no no it’s true. Oprah has all her shit tailored/made for her.

        • Aurumgirl

But honestly, how would she be able to borrow? Maybe when she was at her thinnest, it could have been possible, but a body like hers requires a lot of clothing alteration if the clothes are ready-to-wear, and you can’t alter stuff you borrow. I’m shaped like that and everything I buy has to be altered to look right, even if it is in my size. She’s spent her whole life in front of cameras, so it would all have to be made to fit clothing.

    • SewingSiren

Is this Oprah or a parody of Oprah? Hard to tell.

    • rkdgal

LOVE her look. This reminds me of what Helen Mirren said on the Daily Show recently: if you meet a celeb, touch them. Their clothes are made from the good stuff, so they FEEL better than we commoners :) (She said that Brad Pitt’s cashmere sweater felt amazing.) I bet Oprah smells of unicorns who were bathed in jasmine-infused milk.

      • Beardslee

I once saw Kevin Bacon walking down Columbus Avenue, and even from a distance you could tell that his camel hair coat was so soft and luxurious that you could sink your fingers into it.

    • bertkeeter

Pulled together for sure. Only comment (God don’t strike me down) is that I’d like dress more if front panel was the light grey w white accents at top sides. The white really enlarges her bust! Okay… Think I’m still breathing?

      • kimmeister

Yes, my immediate reaction was that it looks like she has a spotlight right on her boobs.

      • Kate Andrews

And there’s a sense of uniboob. Ugh, don’t strike me down, Oprah!

        • largishbearishAtlish

Oprah won’t, but Gail is in the limo with a tazer with your name on it…just sayin’

      • Gloriana Reginata

To me, it just felt too high, creating this huge light area. I loved it a lot more in the ‘after’ pictures, where she’s pulled the zipper down and created a slash of darker skin tone through the light. She was looking throttled by her own clothing, before.

      • TAGinMO

Glad I’m not the only one.

    • lexilexi

Love it… but (minor quibble) it looks a little autumnal to me.

      • SewingSiren

I’m a little surprised that the background people weren’t required to do “autumn” too.

      • MilaXX

True but Dave keeps his studio at sub zero temps. I always wonder about the starlets who come out barely wearing anything.

    • hillmad

For the well-fitting shoes alone, she deserves a WERQ! So happy to see a shoe that a woman plans to actually walk in for a little while (as far as any human can actually walk in high heels)! She looks great!

      • alyce1213

I agree that the shoes fit and they’re really cool, but they are clearly 4″ spikes and I doubt Oprah walked very far in them at all. I bet she took them off the minute she hit the limo.

        • MilaXX

I agree she’s likely not walking very far, but there is a platform and in this day and age of 6 inch heels, that makes these practically walking shoes for most lady stars,

        • meowing

She’s often written/talked about how high heels give her fits and that she changes out of them as soon as possible. As a woman of her age, I certainly understand.

          • alyce1213

            Me too.

    • kimmeister

      Those pumps are awesome.

    • nyazgirl

      Game. Set. Match. Fanfuckingtastic.

    • formerlyAnon

I know she’s rich beyond the reach of even most of the rich, but the concept that one’s public appearance clothes should fit correctly – even if that means you have to buy them yourself – seems like it should be more widely subscribed to amongst those who are photographed as a job requirement. Since it makes even mistaken choices look better on you.

      • mlle

I think some stars (or their stylists) think that if a garment is enough of a standout, that excuses poor fit.

    • alyce1213

My favorite megalomaniac looks fantastic, just perfect. I hope the movie’s good.
(I have a least favorite too.)

      • kimmeister

        Who’s the least favorite?

        • alyce1213

          Trump.

          • filmcricket

            A million likes.

    • Barb Rayhttp://www.google.com/

      FABULOUS.

    • Jamie M.

Forget the free movie ticket! I want that dress.

    • imakeart

She does it right, no doubt. I’d kill/die for those bracelets.

    • PastryGoddess

I think we need to go ahead and give her the Miss Lady award of the week.

    • Denise Alden

Talk about a bitch that doesn’t age! I can’t remember the last time she looked this great.

    • boldprint

      Goddess!

    • MilaXX

I love that dress on her, in fact I love the entire look. Yes, I can agree it’s super coordinated, but she looks very well put together here. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind having that dress in my closet. Also loving the hair.

    • Kent Roby

This woman (from my little hometown of Kosciusko, Mississippi, BTW) manages that near-impossible task of looking like the Queen of the Universe (which, of course, she is) and the fun best girlfriend simultaneously. I’m completely drawn to her while being completely terrified of her. She looks great here.

    • mmebam

Her sass is making this a WERQ for me. She looks great, and she knows it. And I know it, too…

    • mlle

I don’t mind the matchy accessories as much as the matchy nails. That’s a great, great dress… and with a front zip!

    • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

Foundation garment WERQ and tailoring WERQ. Seriously, in a clinical, non-pervy way, look at how perfectly placed and proportioned her boobs look — they aren’t too high up, too low down — they are exactly in the right place and in exactly the right shape, and they don’t look smooshed and painful and angry. look at her waist, and her hips, how she has an hourglass figure. Look at how she’s not trying to look anorexic, but instead, her body looks like the very best version of a regular woman’s body. Look at her flat belly! Those are some good undies. I could sit on milk crates for living room furniture, but I can’t abide uncomfortable underwear. I pay more for my underwear than I do for pants most of the time.

Look at how that dress is tailored. Look at how it comes in under her boobs, without any pulling whatsoever. I wonder if that slight puckering is deliberate. That dress is not too tight in any place, nor is it too loos in any place. It is *perfectly* fitted, and girlfriend knows it. She knows she looks good, just look at her expression. She’s had so many body issues throughout her life and career, and I don’t know if she has ever looked healthier or happier as she does here. A smile like that can’t be forced.

      • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

I too was mentally praising her undergarments. That is shapewear at it’s very best.

        • formerlyAnon

Yup. I was thinking “engineering in action.”

      • ryenerman

I too am extremely impressed by her foundation garments. There is no excuse for other ladystars to suffer smooshed and/or sagging breasts and ill fitted clothing. Oprah is showing how it’s done when one cares to get it right.

      • Just Me

After those shows she did where she had the imported French ladies hoist, maneuver and otherwise properly fit sagging, bulging “girls” squeezed into sad little bras, you know Momma O has her foundation garments custom made. Everything is smooth and right under her hood. As it should be.

    • stephbellard

Every time I see her now, all I think is Kathy Griffin going, “JOHN TRAVOLTAAAAAAA!”

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

I think she looks absolutely, positively, amazing.

    • Getoverit

Love the dress and love the shoes. Not loving them together. Too garanimals.

    • Vanja

She looks good! That dress is fitted to perfection and the fit of her shoes is giving me life.

    • conniemd

I was immediately struck by how well the dress fit her. Also loved the shoes.

    • filmcricket

Don’t care much for the shoes, but everything else is fandamntastic. I want that dress – I wonder how many organs I’d have to sell to afford it?

    • Candigirl1968

Is it strange to find shoes that fit (that don’t have an inch of a gap in the back or with toes scraping the floor at the front) a refreshing change?

It’s all too bit matchy, but since Oprah looks so great in this, it seems a minor quibble.

    • Zaftiguana

      She. Looks. Amazing.

I agree, too matchy-matchy, but everything is so fabulous that I love it anyway.

    • Lilak

Indeed, she does look great . . . I’m just a little disturbed by the helipad on her chest.

    • d4divine

Oprah is the only celebrity I know of who buys her own clothes and jewelry…the fact that this is unique is sad. If one of the ways of getting your design foot in the fashion world is having a celebrity wear your clothes, then those without expendable inventory have a rough road to hoe…wait…I already knew that…I just find it quite shameful in terms of fashion and greed. Sorry for my rant.

    • MannahattaMamma

I dunno. That gray curvy bit going along the side of her rather formidable chest makes her look a tad…inflated? It’s a great dress, and *she* looks great & at home in her body; it’s just perhaps not the most flattering thing she could’ve chosen, given that she has the entire universe of clothing to choose from. Is that bad? Am I going to hell now for ever so slightly criticizing The O?

      • Courtney

If you are than I am, too. I had similar thoughts about the colorblocking lines on the top. I feel like it throws off the visual proportions. She doesn’t look *bad* per se, but as you say, perhaps a bit unflattering.

    • Nancy Karpen

She looks fabulous. The fit on her dress is wonderful, not something that is easy to come by off the rack if you are a fuller figured woman.

    • withbreaththatisbaited

She looks fab! Wish the neckline was a little lower and a V to make the girls look better, but overall, this is great! I

    • Danielle L

Killin’ it. This could be a Personal Best.

    • Miss_Led

She looks good but I am not loving the Oakland Raiders colors.

    • decormaven

That’s the way to put it all together. Head to toe fabulous. She owns her look- and that makes it a WERQ-Plus for me.

    • Jaeda Laurez

Mama O cleans up nicely. It’s a great length for sitting down and the lighter panel in the front draws you up to her face. Woman is almost 60 now, so she’s definitely taken good care of herself.

    • NoveltyRocker

She looks downright regal. I do feel like a peasant.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

How I’d love to wallow in Oprah’s jewelry closet.

    • oatmealpie

She looks like a million bucks.

    • MK03

      One for the Oprah Log.

    • GorgeousThings

Not overly loving the dress, but damn, at least it fits! I love the shoes, but I agree that it’s a little too much gray/black.

    • crash1212

Wow. I think she looks great. I love everything about this. That hair is giving me life and the dress is perfect. I’m partial to this color scheme.

      • Just Me

THE HAIR!! That is a WERQ ‘do right there.

    • kim bunchalastnames

wish we could get a better look at that barrette in her hair. i’m hoping it’s awesome.

    • Dan_In_NYC

She’s feeling how she looks in this, and I have to say she looks pretty happy and relaxed. And that’s something considering how tightly wound she was when she was ending her show and struggling with the new network.

Not in love with the look, but can concede that the fit and undergarments are A+.

    • SpillinTea

Yassss Queen Oprah!!! Love the hair and her body is looking SNATCHED lately. Werq!!!!

    • Shawn EH

She’s a walking advertisement for ombray. But it’s a pretty hot look, very flattering.

    • largishbearishAtlish

Can I ask the elephant-in-the-room question? Has Oprah either a) had boob and booty work ‘done’ or b) selectively put on weight? I know its been awhile since I have seen her, but she is looking ‘big’. And when did they start making track suits into dresses? a necklace or broach might be nice to see here….something for the eye….

      • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

Actually, no. You can’t ask that question here. Please leave the body assessments to yourself, thanks.

        • Organ_Morgan

I believe in fact that any question may be posed here. Who made you the cop? Nobody.

          • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

            Hey, Einstein: IT’S MY SITE.

            • Organ_Morgan

As long as you have open comments, people remain free to say anything whatsoever they like, and there is nothing at all that you can do to stop them. The only control over speech you may have in theory is to shut down comments altogether. While comments are allowed, a claim such as “You can’t ask that question here” is risible vain impotence. See how that works, Einstein?

            • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

This is my comments section, Einstein. I set the rules as to what people are allowed to say and I
alone have the tools to enforce those rules. And just to prove it, since you seem to be having a difficult time with the concept, I’m going to edit out your original obnoxious message for one I find more pleasing. Then, I’m going to ban you for showing up here for no other reason than to stir up shit.

              Love,
              The owner of this site

          • H2olovngrl

Mod stands for MODERATOR, doofus! LOL!

    • Michelle Wilson

She looks fantastic. I think she’s finally come to terms with the body she has and how to dress for it instead of the body she wants. Aso, I’m so glad she kissed and made up with Dave. He’s the only interviewer that doesn’t seem completely intimidated by her and they seem to have a level of mutual respect that allows for a more interesting interview.

    • Little_Olive

She looks amazing. However, I would have loved it in a set of blues or reds; it might be a silly consideration but this gray composé matches the sidewalk-street so exactly that it seems she’s dressed of cement.

Also, not the bust sunglasses for her face.

      But I repeat, great look.

    • Celeste

      Peasant, please! #newfavoritecatchphrase

    • Roza

I would love to style Oprah, because she has the goods. She has the best hair, skin and wardrobe. The hard bit is choosing, I guess.

    • MzzPants

I think the wrinkles and pulling are caused by the knit fabric clinging to whatever’s underneath (clearly quality, well-fitted undergarments). And, Good God, I’ve coveted her rich, ebony locks for years.

    • pop_top

      I want those shoes.

I also love that Oprah is flawless enough to seemingly avoid being photographed in front of that dumpster that EVERYONE else gets caught in front of.

    • Michelle Wilson

The interview with Dave was absolutely lovely. I teared up a little at the end.

    • MartyBellerMask

IDK about her new movie. I saw the trailer and it looks Straight From The Oscar Factory. There is such a thing as too much pedigree. I’ll have to wait on reviews. I usually agree with the guy on “Fresh Air”.

    • Sam Smith

Damn, she has one of those sailor rope bracelet (the kind you cut off and the end of the summer) but hers is in DIAMONDS.

    • anotherkate

She looks fantastic. Love that dress! Does anyone know who made it?

    • frannyprof

I love that her purse is the size of a business envelope and totally flat. Be cause you know Oprah does *not* carry her own shit.

    • guest2visits

Thought this was a great look – perfect fit, love the ombre shoes.

    • Tuneful54

It’s okay, and I love to see curvy women work their curves, but I don’t think it does her bust ANY favors. She looks like she could tip over. I say that as a well-endowed gal myself.

    • lillyvonschtupp

      Best she’s looked EVER!
