Nicole Kidman in Narciso Rodriguez at the 2013 Hollywood Foreign Press Luncheon

Posted on August 14, 2013

This is okay. Standard Nicole, but it’s a luncheon and we’d probably bitch at her if she tried to wear something any more attention-seeking than this.

Nicole Kidman attends the 2013 Hollywood Foreign Press Association Annual Luncheon in Beverly Hills, California in a Narciso Rodriguez dress paired with Nicholas Kirkwood sandals.

The color looks great on her. We don’t love the shoulder cutouts because they’ll make any wearer look more broad-shouldered than she is. Shoes are fine, but they seem a little heavy for the dress.

But we’re just gonna say it: she’s looking a little scary. Her hair looks seriously fried and her face just doesn’t look … normal.  Honey, stop. Please.

It’s like she’s trying to freeze herself into a January Jones-perma bitch face. It’s quite scary, as is the shiniest pink lip gloss ever created. (I do like the shoes though)

    • TonyGo

I think Nicole and Kylie Minogue are morphing into the same person.

      • drdarke

I was thinking more of her morphing into Cersi Lannister from GAME OF THRONES myself, @TonyGo:disqus .

        • fursa_saida

Lena Headey’s face is scary at times, but never for the same reason.

          • drdarke

            Oh, no, @fursa_saida:disqus!

That’s acting on Lena Headly’s part – not “This Is My Face” like Nicole Kidman.

          • fursa_saida

Sorry, I was joking! I was also thinking about a particularly memorable shot in a movie Lena Headey was in (Dredd) that involved…well, revenge and a lot of blood, and it makes a pretty funny contrast to the Ladies Who Lunch-ness above.

        • H3ff

          It’s actually Lena Headey

          • drdarke

            Yes, it is, isn’t it, @H3ff:disqus …?

Sorry – let me fix that.

    • drdarke

      Dear Ms. Kidman:

When you can see the Botox in Internet pictures, it’s too much – lay off, already!

      The Bitter Kittens

    • Lucía Gavello

She looks like a carnival mask of herself again.

  • flamingoNW

The pale lipstick needs to go. She overuses that trick. Doesn’t work here. Yeah, the hair looks fried.

    • Rhonda Shore

The pale lipstick is my biggest problem with this look.

      • Jacob Bowen

  • So glad y’all said it. It’s true. So very, sadly, true.

  • hughman

“Grace Kelly : The Outback Hostess Years”

    • Qitkat

Damn. I’d like even a smidge of the wiring of your brain neurons.

      • Domo_Konnichiwa

I think we’d overload with their fabulosity.

  • DTLAFamilies

Forehead looks as shiny and frozen as an ice skating rink. Brr.

    • jen_vasm

When she popped on the scene in the early 90s, I actually thought that she would be one actress that would age gracefully and have a beautiful, interesting face. It is so disappointing to see that she is trying to freeze herself into a distorted version of youth.

  • Carleenml

She was looking so soft and pretty there for a day or two. I knew it wouldn’t last. The lips are back. The cheeks look painful.

    • Lucía Gavello

Ditto, her face was looking way more relaxed for the first part of the Princess Grace poledance.

  • Mazenderan

Love the colour of the dress. Her face is looking a little uncanny valley.

I’d like to have seen a few accessories – it seems unfinished.

  • barbarienne

    Dear Nicole,

Please talk to Tyra about the difference between “smize” and “crazy eyes.”

    • kimmeister

The last post here featuring Tyra shows that Tyra herself doesn’t know the difference anymore.

  • marlie

The color is gorgeous, and I really like the shoes too. But her hair looks too stiff and matronly (and fried). Her makeup is fine, but I agree… scary.

  • PastryGoddess

someone needs to invent a shock collar that activates whenever a starlet gets within 20 ft of a plastic surgeons office

  • Jill

Aging has to be prettier than this.

    • And really, as good of care as she takes of her skin, her vampire-like sun avoidance, you *know* if she’d just left her face alone, she’d be looking amazing right now. But she started, she clearly can’t stop and now looks like a Scary Mary.

      • Magatha

Helen Mirren is, like, some 20 years older than Nicole, but no question: I’d rather look at Helen. She has a face with a view. I wince when I look at Nicole.

      • schadenfreudelicious

The girl is hittin the ‘tox again and hard…

    • Constant Reader

I had to Google to verify her age. She is only 46 years old, yet in most of those pictures she looks like a very sexy grandma. I don’t think all that work is doing what it’s supposed to be doing.

      • akprincess72

Good Gravy, so she’s five years older than me & looks fifteen older. I may have some lines, but my face is SOFT. I dearly wish she wouldn’t fight it so hard, youth is for the young, I’d rather have the years of memories to enjoy. I think if she could just soften a little, she’d be radiant.

  • Shawn EH

The bees have been at her lips again.

  • ashtangajunkie

I can hardly concentrate on the dress long enough to opinionate. Her poor face. 🙁

  • PastryGoddess

Should we take up a collection to help her pay for a hot oil treatment?

    • Qitkat

The funny thing is it really doesn’t cost that much, and makes a world of difference. My hair is thinner and drier with aging, not even harsh bleaching/extensions, and the deep moisturizing gives it life, and lasts at least a month or more.

      • murt

I think she’s got toppik or some other kind of hair powder on the top though, plus extensions underneath – the hair powder is giving that dull look. I don’t think she has much hair left, naturally.

  • lexilexi

Maybe this was *after* a few glasses of wine at lunch.

    • Little_Olive

I kind of hope so. Otherwise I’d think her eyebrows are made of lead, seeing how she is struggling to keep her eyes open.

  • kayleymaybe

What is her true hair color? I thought she was a curly red-head (like in her early Tom Cruise movies), but it seems like she’s been blonde for about 20 years now.

    • VioletFem

Red. Her true hair color is red. Frankly, I think the color she is sporting right now looks better on her than the blonde she typically wears.

    • PastryGoddess

Pretty sure she’s a redhead. She went bleached blond for a while which was really bad. She’s now been doing the strawberry blond thing for a while. I like it

    • Carleenml

her hair color *was* red. I’m her age, had the same color. It leaves us too soon! Sigh. And there just isn’t a dye job out there that ever matches it again. But I do wish she’d stick with something close over the pale blonde.

    • makeityourself

Her true hair color is grey. Her original hair color was red. Half if the hair you see in this pic is actually clip-in extensions. See those slightly more intensely red tendrils underneath? Real hair, but not from her head.

  • MilaXX

The color of that dress is great on her. I don’t think the shoe is right for this look.

  • Tamara Hogan

I’m getting a distinct Daryl Hannah vibe from that face close-up.

  • crash1212

    Love the dress.

  • 3boysful

I j’adore the shoes. Dress color is lovely. Face and hair? Ya’ll’ve already covered that.

    • BrooklynBomber

      I j’adore you for remembering “I j’adore”!

      • 3boysful

        *blushing prettily* Merci, BB!

  • kmk05

Her eyes and her lips are making me wince. It’s like there’s so much stuff in her eyebrows that they’re drooping over her eyelids! She’s puffy too. Whyyyyyy.

Love the dress, and her body in the dress. She looks slamming, and those shoes are the perfect accent.

  • Silly Grrl

Man, just when the last incarnation of her face had settled in nicely, she started fucking with it again.

    • fursa_saida

At what point does Urban stage an intervention?

      • Silly Grrl

        He’s not much better!

  • Julie

Those shoes are so drool worthy.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

Some of the shots look scarier than others. She is still a beauty and most of this is working – I love the dress, like the shoes and generally like the shape of her hair, if not the condition….

  • Fordzo

She’s looking a little boobalicious here. Has she put on a couple of (much needed, IMO) pounds?

Her face. Is there a point where Botox starts to push DOWN on your brows? Because that’s what it looks like here.

  • Little_Olive

I think the dress is tacky and does nothing for her. It also doesn’t help to wear something that stiff when your face is idem.

  • I’m so glad y’all said it ‘cuz I was TOTALLY gonna say it. I miss her having a normal forehead.

  • You said it so I don’t have to. Thank you.

  • Merkin

She’s turning into Ann-Margret. And why does she always look as if she’s been crying?

    • DTLAFamilies

Botox can make your eyes red.

  • majorbedhead

Is that what Botox does to your forehead? It’s terrifying.

  • Lilyana_F

Lord, these eyebrows are the stuff of nightmares.

  • filmcricket

See and I sort of wonder if this is why they can’t stop. Once you start, you have to keep going, or everything sags weirdly, and at unnaturally different rates, and you look like you’ve messed with your face even if you haven’t.

Anyway. Colour’s great on her. I’m surprised she’s not required to wear Jimmy Choos for a while at least, but those shoes are pretty funky and she’s got a pedicure, thank all the gods that be.

  • GorgeousThings

A gal I worked with ended up in the ladies’ room of an East Village restaurant with her. This was a few years back, and Danielle (the gal I worked with) said that one, she was very nice and polite, and two, she was CAKED with makeup to hide her freckles. This was in July.

    • Little_Olive

See? and here when I was little all I wanted is to have cute freckes. I’ve really never understood the need for covering them, they’re so cute (most times).

      • BrooklynBomber

Be happy you didn’t have them. The teasing is a major drag.

  • Trisha26

Wow. Thought there was something wrong with my monitor. She does not look like Nicole Kidman.

  • I like the dress. I like the makeup (let’s not discuss what she’s doing to her face). In the second pic, she’s got the cat that ate the canary look going on, which I like. I’d like that dress. The shoes, no; but my feet won’t let me wear anything like that anyway.

  • d4divine

She is straining to smile in the last photo…damn woman…ya went too far!!

  • KingCrazy

LOVE the color of the dress. Kind of hate the shoes.

  • d4divine

She also looks like she just ate a small human.

  • trisker

What, specifically, is she doing to her face? Botox? That’s only the forehead, right? Fillers in lips and cheeks? I don’t know much about these things but she looks so very unlike her pretty self.

    • Domo_Konnichiwa

She hasn’t gotten the smiley face line under her nose yet like some other celebs have. That’s when you know it’s the point of no return.

  • formerlyAnon

Every now and then someone’s picture will spark the thought: What an odd way to make a living, especially if you started out just because you discovered you liked to act.

  • Chuck Barthelme

Looks like she’s just gotten some facial work done.

  • Glam Dixie

Couldn’t she have frozen her face into a less frightening position? I like the dress, the color is lovely. The shoes are ok but a bit heavy looking.

  • iseeshesaid

The top of the dress looks like bag handles. I don’t know. It could have been better without. The shoes are great but I’m not sure about wearing them together. Also…her face. Plastic.

  • Miss wks

It would have been so, so lovely to see her age naturally.

  • Beth513

Two things 1) I bet Tom Cruise is totally responsible for her insecurities and 2) every time she takes a swim in the injectibles kool-aid I think, why can’t she look at her good friend Naomi Watts and see what aging naturally and beautifully looks like and say, I should try that.

    • murt

I think all the botox etc has something to do with tom cruise too – she started looking drastically different soon after their divorce.

  • Laurie Landry

Her eyes are freakin’ me right out!

Love the shoes and the dress is ok.

  • quiltrx

In a couple of shots it looks like she’s REALLY trying to make the skin between her brows move, but it just isn’t happening!

  • E. D.

Could use a bracelet. And less Botox on the forehead.

  • Windswept

Last picture, Kathleen Turner. Oy to the vey.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Nicole, stop with the face work already. You’re one of the loveliest women of our age, leave God’s perfection alone!

  • Amy909

As a broad shouldered woman myself I always get a little sad when people talk about minimizing broad shoulders…in this cause i don’t think the cutouts make her look more broad shouldered though. but i do agree that her face is freaking me out! I think a lot of it has to do with the eyebrows though!

  • amanda siegelson

i have to say, i’ve never been a fan of her look, but i used to at least understand why others thought she was pretty. but ever since she started with the botox (and that’s a long time now) i have found her look off-putting. she’s now veering into terrifying territory. i’ve never liked her as a blonde – i think it does her no favours at all. and the lips… those eyes! yikes!
but the green is a good colour – and the shoes are cool – just maybe for a different outfit.

  • Warrior89

Looks like she packed her angry eyebrows.

  • KikiAvocado

    It’s a Nicole/Kylie/Marg Helgenberger hybrid !

  • shopgirl716

I miss her curly red hair and normal lips. She’s well into her 40’s, one forehead wrinkle would probably be acceptable and understandable. But I’m also not judging by Hollywood standards. Which are completely whack.

  • Pennymac

    Hold me, please. I’m scared…….

  • beebee10

Yes, please stop. Please. You are gorgeous. This is….scary.

  • BrooklynBomber

She needs to modernize. She’s too young to play the dowager.

  • Anniebet

Those upper eyelids look very puffy compared to everything else on the face which is super tight. Anyway – apart from the fact that she’s gonna look like Martha Graham when she’s old if she keeps tinkering with that beautiful face – the dress is lovely on her and those earrings are adorbs. She’s got a perfect body for clothes and wears the hell out of just about every outfit.

  • Ann Coleman

I don’t get these comments. I think she is STUNNINGLY beautiful. And her flawless skin is amazing. I love the dress and the color on her. And her face looks utterly lovely to me!

    • Jaeda Laurez

You don’t get that in the fifth pic up, it actually looks like she can’t move anything on her face from her top lip up? The last version of her face was settling in so nicely too…

      Nice dress though.

    • Susan Bigler

We remember what her real face used to look like. It was lovely.

  • Sally

I’ve been a big fan of hers since ” Dead Calm”. Please stop with the botox. And what is wrong with the side of her face? Stop. Stop. Stop.

  • Was it you boys who said that Madge was turning into the world’s premiere Madonna impersonator?
Same goes for Nicole, I suppose. It’s a pity, her face doesn’t need all that filler, not that anyone’s really does. She’s starting to look like Jennifer Coolidge’s more tightly-wound sister.

  • Jacob Bowen

The crazy eyes and the CRAZY eyebrows! One of them is very angular in the other is definitely round. Eyebrows should be sisters, not gang rivals!

  • melanie0866

Yeah, her face – it’s her eyes, maybe? She’s starting to look like Elizabeth McGovern.

  • boweryboy

Do stars actually eat lunch at these luncheons?

  • A Shiny O’Connor

She looks like a political fundraiser plus-one. The shoes and swirly hair do nothing to loosen her up. So stiff.

  • It must be difficult to be an aging actress, especially when you’re considered “beautiful.” I don’t enjoy finding new wrinkles in my face or noticing part of my face sag, but my face is not my bread and butter. The world gives an attractive person lots of attention. An aging woman could rob a bank, and the witnesses would have difficulty describing the robber because they barely looked away from what they are doing. But….

It is much more difficult to look at a woman (person) with a pulled and filled face than a wrinkled face. An overly “tweaked” face steals the show in a negative way.

I think this dress in beautiful on Nichole; it reveals her great bod. I love this color.

  • bhl_1123

    Visine, please!

  • AnniNoone

Right? Age, honey. It’s better than this.

  • Gloriana Reginata

Ignoring the facial work, I love this look for her – so much warmer than the ice-queens she’s been presenting during the Kelly phase. There can’t be a better colour to go with the redhead look than that teal, the decollatage is sexy but classy, and I think her shoulders aren’t so wide that she can’t cope with the shoulder cutouts, which take the dress away from sobriety and into lighter territory.

    Alas, the shoes.

  • Ashleigh

She’s always been a little “Stepfordy”, and the cheeks implants/lips/brow lift/whatever else are not helping.

  • JaCory Deon

At first pic, I thought it was a wax version of her. ANYWAY, it’s a pity about the face…had she been in Europe making movies, maybe she’d have left it alone and aged beautifully instead of this bizarre effect she’s getting now. When will these American actresses realize the plastic surgery ages them more than refreshes them?

    • Gloriana Reginata

      She’s Australian.

  • Candigirl1968

Sigh, I don’t understand what she is doing to her face. It makes me sad.
The dress is a lovely color, but I wish she’d gone with something on her hands or around her neck that made things pop a bit more.

  • MzzPants

Ruh-roh. Somebody’s been to the doctor again.
