Morena Baccarin for L.A. Confidential Magazine

Posted on August 23, 2013

Dear God, this woman has got a FACE.

“Homeland” star Morena Baccarin covers the September 2013 issue of L.A. Confidential magazine in a Prabal Gurung dress.

“In the beginning, it was a hindrance. I don’t look like a typical girl next door. It took Hollywood a little while to catch up to the times and how small the world is getting. I would really only go in for Latino roles in the beginning of my career, which was also something I didn’t really book because it’s not my forte. I was kind of caught in the middle, so it took a little while.”

“Being different is something that eventually helps you and singles you out. I remember seeing a squirrel for the first time in school and not knowing how to say it in English, saying it in Portuguese, and everybody kind of looking at me really strangely. It rocks your world. Moving countries is a huge, traumatic experience, but at the same time it made me really adaptable and really fearless.”

And a head on her shoulders, it seems.

Cushnie et Ochs Pre-Fall 2013 Collection

We interviewed her once, back in the V days. It was awful of us, because we kept gushing all over her in a very not-professional way, but she was ridiculously laid back, fun, and easy to talk to.  She’s never been what we’d call a Fashion Girl, so it’s for the best that she’s not wearing particularly challenging dresses here. The face keeps it all from getting boring.

Loving just the slightest hint of baby bump she’s proudly showing.

It’s simplistic of me to say, but she’s just so pretty.

  • Watts

THAT is a baby bump?? JAY-zus. I must be due next week.

    • Nikko Viquiera

Well, I may just be about to give birth at some point tonight.

    • Lucía Gavello

I’m giving up, pass the cheesecake.

    • Introspective

as i just finish off my huge plate of cold pasta i realize i clearly have some work to do because her “bump” is way flatter than my unpregnant self and her bloated midsection.

and yes, she is beautiful as all hell.

    • defyingcreon

These pictures must’ve been taken a while ago because I just saw her two weeks back at at a con and she looked just about ready to pop. Couldn’t quite sit up to the table.

  • StellaZafella

I know I shouldn’t make comparisons but I hope it would be a compliment if I mention her in the same sentence as Sophia Loren.

    • foodycatAlicia

A fine compliment – and well-deserved. She is so beautiful!

  • kmk05

She’s making that dress sing in the last shot, and that ridiculous top is difficult to pull off.

  • Nikko Viquiera

She kinda looks like terry hatcher without botox. Also, she looks ten thousand times better than the model!

    • filmcricket

Hatcher, yes. I was thinking young Marisa Tomei, but Hatcher might be a better match.

  • omg_dora

These are really tacky dresses and it’s a pity because I feel like I haven’t seen her wear something nice since her Firefly days.

  • Julie Chase

She’s always had one of the most striking faces, I used to ogle her in Firefly. Taking my attention away from Captain Tightpants is NOT EASY.

  • Sara

She is really gorgeous. I read the whole cover story and she is awesome. I love her friendship with Claire Danes.

    • Qitkat

Yes. And now I want her Brazilian seafood stew recipe.

  • Rand Ortega

    Uh. WHOA!

  • flamingoNW

LLLLLOVE that first picture. She is amazingly beautiful. Disappointed in the rest. Didn’t do her justice.

  • JauntyJohn

There is a scene in Joss Whedon’s “Firefly” where she faces off with Christina Hendricks, and what they do with Whedon’s clever, deconstructed dialog is so freaking awesome.

She has, what I believe is called Presence.

    • Anniebet

That scene was such a hoot. Witty, suspenseful, and so very Whedon. That man is a genius. Inara was a great character for Morena, and she was over the top gorgeous. Still is.

  • ShaoLinKitten

That’s a baby bump? She looks slim and sleek to me. I have always thought that she was the most beautiful woman, period. As Inara, there was no one even close.

    • majorbedhead

Inara. Such a girl crush on her.

      She is pretty stunning.

  • appliquer

    She is still shiny!

  • Lisa Sangermano

I never knew she was Brazilian….I always assumed she was an alien because seriously no real human looks that good

  • Jacquelyn

Shiny Inara! She has more than just some face. Also, adore the pink dress. And I want those earrings.

  • tween00

Hmmm, the zombie styling on the model makes it look like they’re TRYING to make the dresses look bad. Morena looks even more stunning in comparison.

  • M_E_S

She will always and forever be Inara to me. And I would never have it any other way.

  • stu844

OMG I didn’t even notice a baby bump!

  • Adriana_Paula

There is such a beautiful hauteur to her upper lip…

  • AnnaleighBelle

Her face almost makes me cry when I watch Homeland. She and Christina Hendricks are diametrically opposed goddesses to me. Perfect beauty.

  • MilaXX

Lovely pictures. I had no idea she was expecting. The women on that show are giving costuming quite the challenge..

  • bertkeeter

  • Coolekat

Love her so much in homeland. Will have to find firefly. Don’t know it.

    • largishbearishAtlish

please please find Firefly…then weep with the rest of us over what could.have.been…sigh.

  • ThaliaMenninger

How is she not playing Ava Gardner when those kinds of roles come around? Stunning woman.

  • marlie

She’s just stunning, and she looks great in the clothes, too.

  • osiatynska

Her features are catlike in a wonderful way, and while she has a hint of exoticism, it’s hard to ascribe an thnicity. If anything, she looks more Slavic or Baltic to me than anything else. And she resembles a younger Ashley Judd in a way that is positively uncanny—despite Morena’s wider jaw and Ashley’s rounder face, in some photos it’s hard to tell them apart.

    • Lucy Broz

She sure doesn’t look at all like any Slavic i know, and I know a few. She just looks Latin and very South American. Which is what she is.

      • osiatynska

On Wikipedia, she’s described as being of Italian descent, and that makes quite a bit of sense to me, too. Still, with her chiseled cheekbones and delicate features, if she passed me on the street in Warsaw (where I live), I’d just think she is a stunning Polish brunette.

  • ItsDicey

    She is just so lovely.

  • Phyllis Craine

She does and her nose job has improved it quite a bit.

  • AnnPopovic

Like her hair growing back, too. But mostly ’cause I’m on the same starship as everyone else. “I’ll be in my bunk”…

  • guest2visits

A great cover. She is beautiful in the pink dress. But the black strappy one isn’t working as nice; not her fault – it’s just a less than flattering design with the straps vs cups.

  • kathrineb

What a likable, beautiful woman! I like her best with shorter hair.
