Matt Damon at the “Elysium” LA Premiere

Posted on August 09, 2013

Let’s get this Sausage Friday started, right?

Matt Damon (pictured with his wife Luciana Barroso) at the Premiere of “Elysium” in in Westwood, California.

Bless. He’s a talented guy, and a cute guy, and he seems like a nice guy, but he’s never going to be the “check me out” guy, which means the best he can handle on the style front is something along the lines of “I put on that suit you picked for me.” It’s a nice suit, and he’s looking fit and nicely groomed (mostly) in it, but it couldn’t be any duller. When we find ourselves thinking “We’ll take a plain gray tie here,” then you know we’re looking at an outfit wallowing in its dullness.

Part of Matt Damon’s charm, I think, is his relatability as the “every guy.” He’s not a fashion plate nor does he try to be. He looks good, but not spectacular. He’s George Clooney’s slightly slobby younger brother (but not as slovenly as middle brother, Brad Pitt).

      • Terri Smith

That’s it! Brad Pitt is acting out because he’s constantly ignored by his attractive and charming older and younger brothers and he’s trying to make a name for himself by rebelling. “Oh yeah, I’ll grow my hair out and never shower. That’ll get Mom and Dad to pay attention to me!”

        • ShaoLinKitten

Right. As if Brad Pitt needs to do anything to get people to pay attention to him…

      • sugarkane105

I love picturing Brad Pitt as a whiny, petulant middle child. “I’ll wear the leather pants cuz I WANNA!”

        • Glam Dixie

Yeah, and “I don’t wanna take a bath!”

          • Lori

And now I’m wondering how they get the kids to take bathes, “Dad doesn’t, so I don’t hafta either.”

            • twocee

This thread wins the internet today!

          • Rand Ortega

“Or wash my hair. Or shave.”

          • stephbellard

And my girlfriend doesn’t wanna comb her hair!

      • latenac

Having just seen the preview for The Monument Men this morning with George and Matt but no Brad, I think this is the best summation of the three of them every written.

      • visceral response

He ran past me at LAX once and in real life he really does look like the hottest “everyman” you’ll ever see. Like everything about him doesn’t necessarily stand out as STAR!! just like “Damn that guy is so hot, I want to meet him.”

      • stephbellard

If Brad Pitt ever looked this boring, it would be a fashion WIN for him (grading on a scale obviously).

    • sugarkane105

Aw, I kind of love that he doesn’t want the attention. He looks sharp, and I love the shoes on him.
      And Happy Sausage Friday!

      • decormaven

Definitely the shoes! Nice choice there.

      • lindsmh

Agreed. In the recent Esquire interview with him he talks about how Brad Pitt couldn’t believe it when he found out that he walks his kids to school. Like, that’s still an option for him. He may not be the most stylish leading man, but I think he’s doing the celebrity thing right.

    • MartyBellerMask

I’ll take this over Pitt-ing or Cruise-ing any day.

    • nannypoo

He seems like such a decent guy. And look at their hands. They’re adorable together.

      • Denise Alden

I know! The best part of that photo is that their fingers are laced together while he basically has his hand on her ass! I love it!

    • Frank_821

yes he’s an all around decent guy. man those grey hairs are seriously popping up. it only bothers me since it reminds me how old I am…lol

    • carnush

I don’t care. I love me some Matt Damon. He keeps his wild and crazy on the inside.

      • MilaXX

Did you see him on Colbert last night?

        • carnush

No! I will YouTube it now.

    • mjude

love him like the little brother i never had.

    • JenniferA

Love him as is, but it would not kill him to Willis it the fuck up.

      • Lori

I too love him as is, and honestly I don’t think he has it in him to Willis it the fuck up. Even if he wore the clothes he’d just look uncomfortable, which would ruin the effect. A certain kind of look-at-me panache is at least 60% of Willising it up, and that is never going to be Matt’s thing.

      • Rand Ortega

I think this is about as Willis’d as MD will ever be.

    • Tatiana Luján

He is cuter now than when he was younger.

      • Kate Andrews

I like him in Jason Bourne mode. Hot!

        • MartyBellerMask

Frankly I liked him in We Bought A Zoo. Frumpy dad mode suits him.

    • Kate Andrews

      I like her dress.

      • Melanie

That’s a great color for her.

    • Lilithcat

      Definitely needs a tie.

    • Glam Dixie

      My, he is aging nicely.

      • Heather

Hey, he and I are the same age!!!! Oh… I guess that means I’m aging too. :-(

    • MilaXX

Matt has always had a place in my crush closet. Whether he super fit like he was for Talented Mr. Ripley, Bourne or Elysium, or he’s regular guy like this, I just adore him.

    • Catiline

CLASSIC example of a guy who did nothing for me when he was a younger heartthrob, but is becoming a total fox with age. The fact that he has a truly great sense of humor about himself really helps, too.

    • Jessi03

I can’t see him without thinking of his character in Team America. Maaaaaatt Daaaaaamon.

      • Catiline

Reportedly Damon himself thought the Team America portrayal was really funny, which I think is awesome.

        • Jessi03

I heard that, too! He seems like a really cool guy.

    • appliquer

      He is all man.

    • Danielle

My, my, is that salt and pepper I see? I dig it.

    • GorgeousThings

Ah, I love me my homeboy Matt. Anyone who dances in the Matt Damon booth on Colbert is okay in my book!

    • Claudia

Aww…I really like his shoes! And he does seem cool, so he gets a pass for looking pretty well thrown together.

    • majorbedhead

I don’t care if his suit is dull, he’s only getting better with age. He’s adorable. He and his wife together are adorable. It’s making me yearn for someone to hold my hand like that, and I’m far too curmudgeonly to be having those types of thoughts this early in the morning. Harrumph.

    • Supernumerary

Does anyone know what Alice Braga wore to any of the Elysium premieres? I’m occasionally surprised that she doesn’t turn up on TLo, considering the lady seems to enjoy her fashion.

    • MissMariRose

I think Mark Wahlberg looks great here.

      • Catiline

      • Rand Ortega

        Oh Snap!

    • ShaoLinKitten

I will always have a place for him in my heart because he chose to step outside the Hollywood circle and marry a non-model non-celebrity. Also, he’s a fine actor. Elysium looks great. I can forgive the boring suit.

    • Kate

Those shoes. Where can I get my husband a pair?

    • annabelle archer

I like that he lovingly has his hand on her ass. They seem sweet, and he seems genuine. I hope that it’s not too much bullshit.

      • marlie

It really seems genuine, and that’s part of what makes him so endearing to me.

      • formerlyAnon

I’ve always found him terribly appealing despite not being “my type,” and since I’ll never actually know for a fact, choose to believe it’s because the “good, solid guy with a not-too-complicated sense of humor” vibe he gives off reflects his genuine self.

      • alyce1213

And their hands are intertwined. Sweet.

    • mlle

Is it just me, or have there been more step and repeats against dark backgrounds lately? I can barely see where his jacket hits against this one.

    • Michael_Jones

I’m willing to give him some points just for wearing a belt, when so many of the boy-stars choose to eschew this simplest of accessories…

    • Rand Ortega

Puddle pants. But he gets the Ewan McGregor pass from me. He’s just that cute & cool.

    • Poeta Paz

Her dress looks like the one Jodi Foster has for the same premiere. I love him. He’s the guy you want to marry after dating bad guys.

    • Donna Tabor

This is exactly what I like about Matt Damon, that he’s more like the guy down the street than like a Hollywood phony.

    • crash1212

“not the check-me-out guy” = why I love him so. While I much prefer him in a jeweled g-string, he looks fine here. My admiration for Mr. Damon soars with the first picture – hand on wife’s ass…always a good thing!

    • marlie

I don’t find him “hawt,” but he always seems sweet and funny, and definitely seems like the type to take home to mom.

    • Jaeda Laurez

Looking like somebody’s daddy who came through for the recital from work. It’s okay, I guess. I love her shoes.

    • frannyprof

His wife, on the other hand, looks fabulous. Love the dress, shoes, everything.

    • formerlyAnon

It makes sense to me that he’s dressed as the poster boy for “appropriate.” He’d be the best dressed guy in my office, and that seems to be the level he aims at (if he’s consciously aiming & not just following instructions.)

    • ashtangajunkie

I adore him. He just seems like a good, solid guy and his movies are always entertaining. Also, he was on 30 Rock, which cements him into my heart forever.

    • Not applicable

she must be a legend for every girl who works in a bar and dreams of being scooped up by a movie star. (ps: i worked in a bar…so she’s a legend to me 😉

    • HVM

      I’d still hit that.

    • MzzPants

His ‘everyman’ appearance is why he’s America’s sweetheart. At least doesn’t look like he just got back from the feed & seed store, or like the Gay Wind Chime.

    • jen

    • alyce1213

He may not always read ‘instant hawt,’ but he’s the kind of guy you want to spend your life with.
      I LURVE him.

    • Austen Jane

      I like his lady’s shoes.

    • Imasewsure

      His wife looks pretty!

    • conniemd

He finally looks old enough to play Jason Bourne. To me he’s always looked young and preppy.

    • teensmom99

      And why those shoes?

    • Randy Noak

Do we not have to match our belt and shoes anymore?

      • alyce1213

No, you don’t. But it’s a good idea to keep one of them as close as possible in color to the trousers to avoid too many colors. (Like a woman’s bag and shoes don’t have to match any more.)

    • Contralto

      Oh hell, Matty’s had Botox.

    • acevedob

Agreed. I’ve seen a million shmoes in Boston with this suit/shoes.

    • Diego!

Wear a tie and change those gorgeous shoes, which don’t go with this suit! Luciana looks great! 😀

      • alyce1213

Oh Diegio, I’ve always thought that this shade of brown, like deep cognac, was perfect for a navy blue suit and a more interesting choice than, say, black. Luciana does look great, her face and demeanor are very sympa, as the French say.

    • anotherkate

He just gets better and better looking as he gets older.

Oh, right, clothes. Ummm… pretty dull, pants slightly too long, but acceptable. I like his shoes.

    • Nonnah

I know I’m supposed to comment on Matt, however, I really like his wife’s shoes.

    • guest2visits

I just think he looks handsome – I’m ok with the suit.

    • Warrior89

Whatever to his clothes. Cute and smart works for me. It’s not your fault, Matt Damon….It’s not your fault.

    • putacorkinit

Brown Shoes. Black Suit. No. No. No.

    • Zubair Ghumro

Can you wear black belt with brown shoes?
