Lily Collins in Versace at Apple Store Event

Posted on August 06, 2013

Should we just stop featuring her now and promise to write something about her when she gets it wrong? Because there are only so many ways we can say “Attagirl” to the same girl in the same week. Then again, if we wait for her to get it wrong, we may wind up never featuring her again.

Lily Collins promotes her latest movie ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ at an Apple Store in SoHo, New York City in a Versace dress paired with H. Stern rings and Casadei olive patent platform sandals.

Whoever’s dressing her is doing a fantastic job. That dress is perfect for both standing and sitting. It stands out to an audience member from far away and it looks great on camera. Bright, bold, and form-fitting; it’s a killer look. Brava to whoever’s making the style decisions here.

Now this is a bandage dress I can get behind, style wise. I love the irregularity to the folds.

      • tereliz

It’s a great way to do body-con without looking obviously tight. I have a dress with a similar silhouette from Elizabeth and James that’s ruched down the sides and I love how flattering it is. Ruching hides a lot of flaws… ;)

The color of this is just perfect for the end of summer, too.

      • teensmom99

Kiltdntiltd–your thoughts on why this yellow works, please.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Her skin naturally has a good deal of reddish tone, so it balances that sunny yellow well.

          • teensmom99

And I was thinking it was my late mother’s rule: you can wear any color as long as you have the right lipstick.

      • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

You are absolutely on point here. The “bandages” here aren’t tight and sexed up, they are feminine and floaty. Not totally sold on this yellow on her, but still, that dress is spectacular and the color on it is amazing.

    • marlie

      Spot on! Really cute!

    • MilaXX

She also wore that on Fallon last night. It looked really cute on the walk out & sitting down.

      • amanda lynn

that’s why it looked familiar. :)

    • gabbilevy

Definitely don’t stop featuring her! She’s killing it! And best of all, she’s really switching the style up from one appearance to the next, keeping it interesting.

      • decormaven

Yes! I know it’s going to be a treat when I see her in a thumbnail.

    • Diego!

I love the contrast of the yellow dress with her brown hair. It looks AMAZING on her! Congratulations to her and her stylist!

    • Monkey Toe

I guess I am the dissenter. She looks like a vitamin B enriched mummy.

      • zenobar

I was gonna say, “Sunshine Mummy” – but really I think it’s pretty damn cute.

      • majorbedhead

No, no, I’m right there with you. Like a mummy who fell into the yellow highlighter vat.

      • Sarah

With you on this, I feel like her hair clashes with the dress and makes her look jaundiced. Also, I love me some thick eyebrows but hers are a little too close together for my liking.

      • Shawn EH

Agreed, but I applaud that she gave it the “reverse slut cut;” she actually unraveled it to be longer than the model version!?

    • AshBookworm

She looks amazing. Shame about the boring shoes.

      • Aurumgirl

I love the shoes. They’re all about their colour–that rich olive green shouldn’t work with that lemon yellow dress, but it sure does.

        • AshBookworm

Upon closer inspection, you are right. They are in fact tyat gorgeous colour which I love, and which, incidentally, is the colour of my new favourite purse.
I called them boring because they looked black to me at first glance.

    • Glam Dixie

It’s a few inches too long but I like the color on her a lot. Love those shoes the model is wearing. Is she Clary?

      • Denise Plank

She is. Not as redheaded and green eyed as I think Clary should be.

    • Jaime

I really want to groom her eyebrows just a *tiny* bit. I love that they’re not fine, fake little lines that strip her face of expression, but I want to make the underside of her brow closest to her nose follow the curve of her eye instead of nearly a straight line, because the way her eyes are set in her skull, the shadows down the bridge of her nose make her look like a cartoon villain.

      • Sarah

Yes! Well put. I just want to get my tweezers and have some fun with those inner brows.

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

The shoes are a misstep. This is another really bold choice, brava for all of her fashion gumption.

      • Golfkat

        Definitely. The shoes are horrific.

    • crash1212

How can *anybody* wear that color and not look sickly? She’s a witch. Love the shoes.

    • Valdri8

So refreshing that it is not up to her coochie. I wish more starlets would take the hint.

    • jmorino08

I don’t know how tall she actually is but that dress and those shoes make her look 12 feet tall, in a good way.

    • Stella Zawistowski

This is what she wears to the Apple Store? Man, I feel like a frump!

      (she looks amazing)

    • Glaciusx

I was at the Apple store while she was wearing that outfit. She looked so stunning!! What a goddess.

    • Anniebet

Holy cats on a cruise! That is a great, unusual dress and she’s doing it justice, and then some. Beautiful makeup and hair.

    • Random Compliments

This is a WERQ for me.

    • NoveltyRocker

Promoting at an Apple Store too? The endless reserves these folks must have just to survive the non-acting part of acting.

    • Monabel

Except that yellow is harsh on a pale skin.

    • demidaemon

What is so weird to me is where she is promoting this movie. Why isn’t she doing a regular RC? Is it an indie film or just that awful?

      • Alyssa

It’s more than they’re trying to appeal to the YA audience who haven’t necessarily read the books, imo. What better way to draw in teens to a movie than doing promotions at malls?

    • nannypoo

I hate the color and I don’t even like it on her. But she is adorable and she can do whatever she wants.

    • ankali

She looks outstanding. WERQ that chartreuse, girl!

    • LaSylphide

Love the color (yellow is my favorite), but don’t care for the dress, mainly because it’s too long. And the black shoes are a no go.

    • pattie capet

      beautiful

    • frumpybiscuits

      Who IS dressing her??!

    • littlemac8

She manages to look so fresh and unstudied but you know her looks are carefully thought out. Brava!

    • LauraAgain

The dress is really cute and flattering, though the color seems too limiting. Very few people can carry off this color, but Miss Lily does it beautifully. Bravo!

      • stubbornthoughts

That was my first thought, “What a hard color to wear,” but Lily is working it beautifully!

Love her hair here. (say that five times fast)

    • quiltrx

      No, don’t stop the Lily!!
We have SO MANY to make fun of. Let us have some to praise, too!

    • carnush

      Those eyebrows are insane.

    • melanie0866

She wore the same thing on Jimmy Fallon. I love the dress, but I disagree with the choice of the ankle-strap shoe with that longer hem length. It’s not flattering to her legs.

    • Town

      I want this dress!

    • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com cheekypinky

      Oh, man. She is *stunning*

Seriously, she needs to be cast in the next ETaylor biopic.
