Kevin McHale at the 2013 Young Hollywood Awards

Posted on August 02, 2013

Okay, we lied. Ne-Yo isn’t the only stylin’ guy in the lineup for today. Kevin’s got it going on himself.

Kevin McHale attends the 2013 Young Hollywood Awards in Santa Monica, California.

A skinny white tie and a pair of two-toned shoes would’ve sent this square into rockabilly, which might actually work for him, come to think of it. But instead, he kept in the land of the hipster, which is pretty much his signature style. It’s not our look, but it’s A look, and it’s a look that suits him well.

But is it us or does his hair look weird?

Chic, but wtf is that hair??

    • StellaZafella

Toupees can be lace front, too!

      • Diego!

LOL xD But that doesn’t look like a toupee! :P He didn’t comb his hair. Shame on him!

    • Lucía Gavello

He was going for “The Frankenstein” but forgot the screws. Rookie mistake.

  • newleaf1

He’s got a lot of swoop going on with the hair, but overall he’s super hipster cute.

    • H2olovngrl

That hair is straight up 1988. Looks just like my brother’s did.

  • Lily

He’s consistently one of the few New Guard with any sense of style about him, which I love. While a lot of the time it’s not a style that is for me, I respect that he puts effort in. That jacket is very him. Confused about the hair, though.

    • ConnieBV

The swoop is casting a shadow that gives him early Bruce Willis hairline.

      • largishbearishAtlish

actually, its looking like its maybe starting to thin? like that double peak of baldness starting?

  • Danielle

Hair is doing some funky things, but I appreciate any man who will wear a psuedo-leopard print suit jacket.

  • crash1212

I love this look. His hair is flat and going wide…get a haircut, bub.

  • mjude

he looks adorable but you are correct about his hair. LOL

  • MilaXX

Yeah the hair looks a little square, but it’s otherwise a good look.

    • Domo_Konnichiwa

I wonder if it was styled ‘up’ and humidity delivered its swift hammer of injustice.

      • Jessica Freeman

I believe that as well. Swift hammer of justice, indeed.

      • rajf

Yup. Fine, straight hair + humidity can equal seaweed on a rock regardless of how much product one uses. It’s not quite that far gone, but I can relate.

That hair is a little Flock of Seagulls and a little early 90s Boy Band flat top. Maybe he’s product free as his sign of mourning? This is pretty subdued for Kevin.

  • Denise Alden

Yeah, the hair is funky, but I really appreciate this dude’s style.

  • etselec

Hair looks like he put some mousse in it, blew it out all poofy, and then did a headstand.

  • Telperion

He tries and puts effort into it so while this is is not something I like, props to him. The hair though, that’s a no. I have an awful feeling someone sat on his head. And then stayed there for a good while.

  • Ginny Ellsworth

His hair is thinning in the front. This is a comb up and over to make it look thicker. He’s a snappy dresser anyway! I would have loved the white tie and two toned bucks!

  • julnyes

Nope, it is not you. That hair is definitely doing some weird things. Otherwise, I think he looks good and clearly has his own sense of style.

  • Jessica Freeman

He’s actually doing much better with his style…hopefully the days of jeans and suspenders are behind him. I tend to think that his hair was higher and it has deflated.

  • Emily Smith

Is it just me or is his hair thinning in the front?

  • d4divine

His hair does look weird, otherwise, he looks great.

  • Eric Stott

He’s thin & adorably geeky, so for the present he can carry off the look

  • Calinda_L

This event is prime example of why stars wears sunglasses in bright sunshine. Or, better yet, avoid it altogether when they’re trying to look put together (especially when the appropriate outfit for the event is decidedly more “evening” than the daylight-infused RC would suggest).

  • Ashleigh

    the hair looks weird

  • marlie

His hair does look a little weird, but overall, this is perfect for him.

  • mshesterp

I’m seriously getting a Nic Cage-in-Moonstruck vibe with the hair. At any moment he could yell out “I lost my hand! I lost my bride! Johnny has his hand! Johnny has his bride!”

…or maybe not. Man, now I want to go home and watch Moonstruck again.

Ah, what was I saying? Oh, cute look on him.

    • Andrea

My thoughts EXACTLY. And that’s the second out-of-left-field Moonstruck reference for me this week. I think it’s some sort of sign.

    • MartyBellerMask

      SNAP OUT OF IT!!

    • etselec

You got a hat? Use your hat.

  • Womyn2me

honestly, I marvel that any of them can get their sh*t together after Corey’s death to go in front of cameras.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Hair looks thinning and weird, but he’s one of the rare few I’d approve wearing the shirt buttoned up like that. And it still feels way too soon for me to criticize any of these kids so there’s that.

  • NoveltyRocker

Love the little peek of shirt sleeve under the jacket. Wish the pants were even slimmer cut to vibe more with the narrow fit on the shirt and jacket, and a matching black.

  • Getoverit

Must be an 80′s week for me but it screams John Cryer from Pretty in Pink to me.

  • ThaliaMenninger

So who thinks he will work again after GLEE is no more? Maybe on a summer replacement thing like the current CAMP (which needs a lot more camp to earn that name). Maybe The Buddy Holly Story in regional rep. But I suppose he should wear the hipster duds while he can afford them.

  • jmorino08

Hair looks very weird. Very comb-over adjacent.

  • formerlyAnon

If I hadn’t lived through the ’80s and New Wave I’d like this. But this is too close to that. (Imagine Ric Ocasek in it. Happened too easily, didn’t it?) I’d have preferred him to have gone rockabilly. His squared-off hair would have worked well with that, actually.

  • Fred Vaughn

Hair is too “done”; otherwise, I like…

  • molly

Bangs should not cast such a large shadow.
