Kelly Osbourne at the 2013 Young Hollywood Awards

Posted on August 02, 2013

There are so many things to like here on an individual basis, but we’re just not loving the look overall.

Kelly Osbourne attends the 2013 Young Hollywood Awards in Santa Monica, California in a canary yellow dress paired with a Charlotte Oympia clutch, Alexander McQueen studded platform pumps, and Lana Jewelry Large Sienna earrings.

Charlotte Olympia Punk Pandora Clutch

Alexander McQueen Studded Platform Pump

The purple hair PLUS the poufy, exaggerated sleeves/neckline PLUS the studded platform pumps PLUS the sparkle claws with crosses PLUS the safety pin clutch – it’s all just way too much. And we don’t think they go together anyway. Those shoes really shouldn’t be paired with a bright yellow dress. This is a head-scratcher to us. While we think her fashionista cred is a little overblown, we never had a doubt she could put an outfit together and had cultivated some fairly good instincts. But this looks like something a teenager would throw together. Maybe that was the point. It is the “Young Hollywood Awards,” after all. That must be a source of some stress to the invitees closing in on their dreaded 30th birthday.

The hair, the lipstick, the dress… This outfit sponsored by Crayola.

    • putacorkinit

If she changed the goddamned hair she could be a classical beauty. But it just adds twenty years and makes her look cheap.

      • Rhonda Shore

The purple hair is written into her Fashion Police contract. I read that somewhere. I think it’s the shoes that are really throwing this look off balance (and the ill-fitting bodice)…w/a diff shoe the other accessories would have been ok, though i’m not a fan of the nails.

        • putacorkinit

What is this? Some kind of Fashist Police state?

          • Monabel

            Maybe. In a good way.

          • cindiaune

She is getting paid a big bag of money to have purple hair! Her choice, she has to live with it, we just all have to look at it :O

        • melisaurus

Thats unfortunate all that bleaching must kill it.

    • Glam Dixie

That dress kinda looks like it could’ve been made from the unconventional materials challenge on PR last night.

    • alyce1213

She’s a cutie and she has lovely décolletage which is featured nicely in the dress, but what’s going on below it — collapsed boobs — is not so good. Also, she needs a touch up to cover brown roots and blonde wisps.

      • KayEmWhy

I agree with everyone’s comment, but she’s contractually obligated to wear her hair purple.

        • alyce1213

          Really? Fashion Police or Sharon?

          • KayEmWhy

            LOL. I think it’s E and Seacrest.

        • Little_Olive

I read that, but I wonder why they did it. It seems better for the show that she’d be able to change her hair. If they want audience they should lose Giuliana IMO.

          • KayEmWhy

I know I’m in the minority, but I like the purple or lavender hair. Yes they should lose Giuliana, she never fit it IMO.

            • demidaemon

E’s plan is to make Giuliana happen or bust. It may be working, albeit slowly. Sadly, I tend to agree more with her POV on the fashion of the week over the stylist’s. Maybe that’s the problem with the RCs as of late.

          • Tânia

I actually think Giuliana is pretty funny on the show, I like her

            • cocohall

I agree! It seems since her health crisis, she has loosened up and become more willing to say what is really on her mind. I like her too!

      • demidaemon

I actually kind of love the purple hair–because it’s different and unique and she actually styles it in a way other than a starlet’s usual cocker spaniel hair/mermaid hair.

    • annabelle archer

She has a lovely décolletage, but I feel like if your job is to critique others fashion, you need to bring it, pretty flawlessly, every time.

      • alyce1213

We wrote the same thing at the same time! Décolletage!

    • Lesley

tell me you do not think of Belle from Beauty & the Beast?!

      • Tatiana Luján

        Beauty meets Judy Jetson.

        • ashtangajunkie

          Beauty Jetson?

      • Jen

I thought Snow White for some reason, but Belle is right on.

      • CristinaSalazar

You can’t just cut Belle’s ball dress and expect us to think it’s a new outfit.

    • nannypoo

There’s a Smurfette meets Snow White vibe here that I really hate.

    • Lori

On top of everything else, the top of the dress doesn’t fit her well. If you’re going to wear a color that “LOOK AT ME” the garment needs to be worth looking at and this one is not.

    • lobsterlen

Kelly looks like she should be working in Disney Land in this getup. Cartoonish.

    • miscorrections

I love the cheekiness of a beehive with a, err, bee and hive tonal print dress. I just wish the dress were, you know, good. And didn’t look so much like an extremely flammable tablecloth.

    • flamingoNW

Man, the fabric of that dress is horrific. Tacky.

    • Charlotte

That’s a shade of yellow only Disney character can successfully wear.

    • Tatiana Luján

The fit on the bust area, the terrible for the outfit shoes, the incongruous ckutch and the Jetsons hair ruin the look for me. Wait, what was left for ruining?

      • MilaXX

I think the clutch and the shorts would work together on another outfit.

        • Tatiana Luján

          I’m sorry, Which shorts?

          • MilaXX

Sorry, my phone auto corrected. That should read shoes.

            • Tatiana Luján

Oh, then I agree with you.

    • Diego!

      Tweety on drugs.

    • MilaXX

None of these things go together. I also dislike the platform pump on her. Many short gals think they make them look taller when all they do is stumpify the legs.

      • Tatiana Luján

        I agree 100%

    • Jessica Freeman

She is the newest Disney Princess Punkerella. For a gorgeous as she is, the lavender hair makes her look tacky, regardless of what she wear.s

    • ShaoLinKitten

And what is worse is that the fabric of this dress is actually a monochrome print! TOO MUCH!

      • alyce1213

Not really a print, a jacquard – fabric is woven for texture, not color.

        • ShaoLinKitten

I didn’t know the right word for it, but you have to agree it’s just one element too much on an already ridic dress.

    • SewingSiren

      Mars Attacks! Cute.

    • Imasewsure

Her hair color definitely has that old lady “rinse” quality to it (my Grandma favored “Saucy Beige” aka pink) and unfortunately Kelly doesn’t have Katy Perry’s knack for pulling off the cartoon look. Not awful but not great

    • Qitkat

      *Dreaded 30th birthday*. Oh honey.

      HahahahahahahahahahahahahahGASPhahahahahahahahahahahahahsnort! FALLS DOWN.

      • formerlyAnon

I didn’t even mind my 30th when I was having it.

        • Qitkat

Nor did I. Too busy living, raising two little guys, to even care.

    • chill85

I think that dress is McQueen (the honeycomb print looks familiar). Not his (house’s) best, by far.

    • Trisha26

I would pay serious money to hear Fashion Police, including Kelly, dissect this look. Horrendous.

    • Slanted & Enchanted

I think it would look infinitely better in another color, like a sea foam green. The shoes are bad, but that’s exacerbated by how much they don’t match with the yellow. Lipstick color is also off (and I NEVER notice make up). Anyway, if everything changed color I would be down for this.

Except the hair. I love her lavender hair.

    • Sam Smith

I don’t get the purple hair, I like the idea of the dress but not the color and everything else has to go.

    • OrigamiRose

The shade of yellow, the poufy sleeves and neckline, gave me an immediate flash to Daniel’s Avant Garde Peep Jacket from last season’s PR.

    • nowlo

The look would have popped more with sharp black patent shoes/bag. And the dress has a very awkward fit around her shoulders/bust…it is really strangely matronly and childish at the same time. Like something the Del Rubio Triplets would have worn.

    • VioletFem

If she is going to insist on lavender-colored hair that she should really stay away from yellow dresses.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

Wow, she went to a lot of work and is not getting the pay-off that all that work should result in.

    • Ashleigh

I actually almost like this whole ensemble. (ESPECIALLY the shoes). But that frock is doing nothing for her boobs. The opposite of nothing, actually.

    • marlie

      I just can’t with the droopy-boob, ill-fitting bodice.

    • cheekypinky

I know I’m in the minority, but I love her lavendar hair–though it does need some root attention.

The dress is fantastic fun, and the classic 50s shape works well on her.
      The sparkle-grey-black-perspex accessories are a little…off.

I would have chosen peacock blue to go with this.

      • formerlyAnon

I might not say “love” but I like & respect the hair! I think this would have been easier to accept if the dress were a different color. But then, I’d rather change the color of the dress than of the hair or shoes, which is why I say that.

    • conniemd

I don’t mind the yellow dress, yellow was my mom’s favorite color. She was dark haired and tan skinned and looked great in yellow. Yellow does not match lavenderhair.

    • Danielle

Lord, I am over that hair.

    • Judy_S

I like the hair+ dress and the purse and nails pass as small accents but the shoes pull it all down. I think it’s the shape.

    • gurl boy

Sorry, I can’t get past the faded skull n bones on top of her feet! NASTY!

      • guest2visits

I wish you weren’t right – most tats look like dirty smudges to me, or tasteless and poorly placed.
I would like the dress but the hair, the earrings, the shoes and all the accessories are taking this into a cheaper,
junkyier kind of look. Too much cheap clutter.

        • gurl boy

Agree…but what does one expect from her anyway! She’s a ridiculous trainwreck most of the time….this is actually toned down!

    • Plink

      Cartoon-inspired get-up?

    • Just Me

Retina burn! Good GOD, that dress is ugly!! The color!! And with the hair? And the fit? She blinded me with ugly!

    • decormaven

“Sparkle claws with crosses” FTW. This look needs a serious edit.

    • KikiAvocado

I am not a fan of those 3D dagger nails-but they seem to be trend now. I love the clutch!

    • Anniebet

Her face is so lovely here. I like the hair color a lot, but it does rather have a fight going on with the dress color. The fabric of the dress is pretty, but the fit around the bust is annoying. Big nope on the shoes. Height challenged young women need sleeker shoes!

    • HomeOfficeGirl

Um , no. I like the earrings that’s it for me. She’s had the shoes long enough to wear some of the beads off the toe.

    • jelenawoehr

This is literally Belle’s dress from Beauty and the Beast.

      • Beverly Kozma

I knew I had seen it somewhere!

      • sleah_in_norcal

my granddaughter leenabelle is here visiting, and this dress would look great on her. she’s five.

    • iseeshesaid

It simply DOES NOT LOOK GOOD. She got lost along the way.

    • somebody blonde

You know, it wouldn’t be so terrible except for the top of the dress. It sure wouldn’t be perfect, but if it had conventional shoulders and sleeves, it would be inoffensive.

    • marshmallowjane

This yellow is awful on her, especially with her hair color. I love the style of the dress. I hate the earrings. Her hair was super cute on the PR show last night. I don’t mine her color either, but not with the yellow dress.

    • Sara Leigh Merrey

She just always looks like a cartoon character to me. A rebellious Smurfette.

    • largishbearishAtlish

LOVE the dress, but sigh, with that hair….Out. either the purse OR the shoes, but not both….am loving that dress tho (on a different person, or her with any other hair…) really striking.

    • Getoverit

I have yet to figure out who made the decision for her to judge other peoples fashion choices. Really? This is what the expert wears?

    • NYCGlamourpuss

I actually like this a lot. But then again, I love Kelly and I forgive pretty much any of her fashion sins!

    • rh33

Was this one of the dresses from PR’s Yoplait challenge? Looks like fabric formally known as Carnival Prize.

      • sleah_in_norcal

        or possibly a parachute?

    • jmorino08

She looks like a cartoon character!

    • bessann28

I wore that dress to a homecoming dance in 1987.

    • Shawn EH

      Looking like her mum!

    • formerlyAnon

I don’t really mind it, it’s still on the right side of the line. (The line between Rock Lobster/Planet Claire and The Sweet Potato Queens*)

      * No, not *that* sort of queens! [Mostly]. Just google.

    • Dagney

That dress is vintage. I wonder where she found it. Possibly, The Way We Wore?

    • Alexandra Pimenta

Is that ‘Rock Lobster’ I hear in the background…?

    • Roza

      Laa Laa Teletubby

    • Louise Bryan

“Go big or go home” — maybe she should have done the latter.

    • Judih1

She is like a Kardashian to me – receives way more publicity, gigs and freebies than her talent warrants. And no fashion taste at all

    • Kikishua

I really like the colour of the dress, but it’s just too much in that harsh sunlight. The shoes are really heavy/bad with that dress. And it looks like she’s lost a couple of the little studs on the right shoe.

    • DuBey2

Guys, she’s showing off her new figure – and I think the dress does that really well. She could lose the shoes, nails, bag, & twin skull tatooes on top of her arched feet. If her hair wasn’t purple, I’d like the yellow more. What shade WOULD go with that hair?

    • judybrowni

Purple and yellow paired are Easter colors, and here it is midsummer, fer christ’s sake. And you’re not a baby chick, honey.

I get the connection, but Christ on a nailbed is a touch too far for July.

The lipstick’s too red, the yellow too shiny, the shoes too much.

Looks like she grabbed randomly from a closet where the lightbulb had burnt out.

    • AutumnInNY

Wonder if she’ll get immunity from mean old Joan & company on that silly E! show they host where they rip everyone else apart. She’s a cute girl, but so many things about this outfit =hot mess.

    • silaria

Her dress is COVERED IN BEES. COVERED IN BEEEEEEEEEEES! And she’s got her hair in a beehive. She wins.

    • slowestloris

The nails, clutch and shoes are cute. I don’t like the dress – it makes me think of like a store bought disney princess costume. I don’t like the bouffant hair (whatever it’s called) either. I’m still into the lavender tho.

    • sleah_in_norcal

i know everyone is ragging on her, but i love her! i think she has great fashion sense and is very articulate. i see what she’s going for here, i think what kills it for me is the fuchsia lipstick. and the ugly brown shoes.
