Katy Perry in New York City

Posted on August 28, 2013

Katy looks like a very serious ambassador who just beamed over to the Starship Enterprise.

Katy Perry out and about in New York City.

Why so serious, Ambassador Katy? Kick off those booties and let Captain Kirk show you a good time.

That’s a hell of an “out and about”/daytime outfit for NYC in August, wouldn’t you say? We like it – especially because it’s kind of odd and unexpected – but it just looks overdone to see her walking on the street wearing a necklace like that in the middle of the day.

    Counselor Deanna Troi’s erstwhile apprentice.

edit, do you think she’s only HALF Betazoid?

    • Denise Plank

I guess it depends on which half.

  • Trisha26

For some reason it seems like wrist-length white gloves would complete the look, no?

    • Sarah

Yes! I was looking for them, automatically, and that seems very odd in the 21st century. Perhaps it’s the boots that are making the brain go there…

      • 3boysful

        Me, too!

    • Darren Nesbitt

Reminds me of an X-men character in their “normal” clothes.

  • hillmad

Why did she wear a red or maroon bra under it? Not to mention the moire effect makes me feel like I’m going to fall off my chair! LOL

    • alyce1213

I think the maroon is the undercolor in the moire.

      • Sweetbetty

The dress isn’t moire, though, it’s narrow stripes (as you can see in Pic # 2). She is wearing a red/burgundy/maroon bra under it. How do celebrities walk out the door like that? Don’t they all have handlers?

“The term originates from moire (moiré in its French adjectival form), a type of textile, traditionally of silk but now also of cotton or synthetic fiber, with a rippled or ‘watered’ appearance.”

Katy’s dress is narrow dark and light stripes as can be seen in the close-up in Pic #2. In the other pictures you see a moire effect because of the resolution of the camera but the fabric itself is striped, not moire or “watered” as you often see in taffetas, satins, or silks.

          • alyce1213

That’s part of it, only covers traditional watered moires. Textile technology can now produce striped moires like the ones pictured in Google images.

Whatever, it’s making my eyes go buggy.

          • shorty j

thiiiiis. whatever it is, it makes my eyeballs feel funny.

          • demidaemon

Agreed. It has an almost cross-eyes effect, though I still like the look as a whole.

    • MoHub

At least it’s a bra that’s functioning properly.

    • kimmeister

The moire is also drawing so much more attention to her chesticles!

  • Meg0GayGuys6

This is a win for me from the calves up. Those shoes are kinda gross.

ETA: Plus, Katy, where are you headed with no bag? We all know celebrities are given shit for free, but you don’t have to know we know it :)

  • ccinnc

That’s a great dress. Hate the booties.

  • Beth513

The booblusion is making my eyes twitch, literally.

    • Darcy H

      “Booblusion” I love it.

  • alyce1213

I don’t think this is just an out and about outfit. She’s on a mission.
Great dress and necklace. I wish she’d worn other shoes.

    • NOLA_gal

I love it. K Perry, on a mission. Awesome imagery.

  • MilaXX

For me it’s the boots that are a bridge too far. I like the dress & necklace.

    • mjude

      thank you!

  • Erica_Vuitton

Jane Jetson. The look for Prism is clearly futuristic housewife.

    • Ginny Ellsworth

She needs a high pony for channeling Judy. You are so right about the futuristic housewife.

  • NYCGlamourpuss

Actually, for as sophisticated-up as she’s been getting, I do like this on her.

  • Ginny Ellsworth

    Hypnoboobs!

  • Jacquelyn

It may be more serious than Katy normally does, but I rather like it. It shows that she doesn’t have to be an attention grabbing, short, shiny, crazy, grill wearing, cray-cray. I understand that if part of Katy’s whole persona and something helps sell albums, but she looks really good here. I love her hair.

  • OrigamiRose

I like how she’s moving on from the cupcake boobs look, and don’t really mind this but am I the only person who continues to be horrified at people wearing booties in August?? The heat. The stink. Ick :o You have to pry me out of open-toed with the threat of frostbite.

  • kimmeister

As interesting as the gold heels on the booties are, white boots will never not read go-go to me.

    • epenthesis

See, I like that. It strikes me as a witty touch that takes the whole look–which is pretty simple, really–in a more interesting direction. Ditto the necklace.

    • conniemd

I wouldn’t mind the white booties for a springtime look, but daytime summer just makes my feet sweat.

  • bassfemme

Look #3 looks like a topographical map.

  • Betsy

I would SO wear that outfit (sans booties and collar-necklace) to the office! Then, I could pull out some fabulous jacket and go out in the evening. Just need a stronger eye and lip, some kick-ass earrings (dangly, natch), and I’d be ready to party!

  • formerlyAnon

Wildly enthused, except for the booties. Those are fine, but seem more casual than the necklace.

  • frannyprof

I like this bbetter than her VMA getup.

  • Trickytrisha

Love the dress. That’s an unusual fabric, and it works beautifully on this design.

  • Neva Reese

80′s power woman power! I would so wear this, top to bottom. My one employee would feel my power but wouldn’t be intimidated.

  • crash1212

Love the dress. Hate the booties.

  • Imasewsure

Love the dress and ok with the necklace. Boots I actually don’t hate (but maybe it’s because they aren’t white pumps!)

  • Carrieanno

How much longer for the booties-as-summer-footwear trend to grind to a halt? The lower extremity version of wearing wool mittens in July.

    • Constant Reader

Maybe it’s the evolutionary step between Uggs as summer footwear and actual, functional summer footwear. We can hope.

  • decormaven

No booties until after Labor Day! Can’t we get this passed as a national law? It’s anarchy right now, I tell ya.

  • stubbornthoughts

Her girls seem majorly rounded/padded. Is that just my eyes?

    Love this shape on her.

    • Kimberlini

Gotta keep the headlights from showing.

  • Rand Ortega

TLo said, “Why so serious, Ambassador Katy? Kick off those booties and let Captain Kirk show you a good time.” HAHAHAHAHAHA*snort!*
As soon as I scrolled down, I immediately thought of Commissioner Nancy Hedford from “Metamorphosis”. What’s w/ the futuristic bootie trend right now? I just saw Chloe Moretz in a white buckled pair by Isabel Marant that were straight out of “Buck Rogers In The 25th Century”. Did I miss the memo?

  • d4divine

    She has terrible style.

  • andreawey

    optical illusion dress

  • Tatiana Luján

That shade of green is wonderful for her complexion.

  • http://marshmallowjane.com/ marshmallowjane

This is the best I’ve seen her look. She isn’t flashy or silly. She isn’t flaunting her boobs or her hair. She’s beautiful; her body is beautiful. Do we know who designed her outfit? Did I overlook that? She looks like she should be shopping on Rodeo Dr. and meeting friends for lunch in Beverly Hills. Sophisticated. Classy. Fashion forward due to the impeccable fit of the garments and the subtle trim around the armholes and the bottom.

  • paintedfish

Wow, it’s like one of those moving picture optical illusions.

  • marlie

I like this a LOT (minus the shoes), though the print on the dress translated through my computer is making me a little dizzy.

  • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

It’s new Katy Daywear. It’s still wacky but now it’s wacky AND demure and covered up.

  • StelledelMare

Is it a dress? The length and shape of the top part makes it seem like it’s a top and a skirt separately (personally I like the top part better than the skirt part. I want the top. Basically everything from the waist up is working for me). Anyways, I dig the futuristic look and the color is good on her but that fabric does not photograph well at all.

  • guest2visits

I think I love this . Trek booties and all.

  • Jeannie Shmina Greenwald

Am I the only one who likes her look here? I do.

  • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

I wonder if anyone has ever had a seizure induced by strobing boobs?

  • Lesley

love the dress loathe the booties. i never understood booties with a dress, unless you have long modelesque legs it does nothing for you.

  • ConnieBV

If it’s hot enough to be sleeveless, it’s too hot for boots.

  • http://thishotoldbroad.blogspot.com/ Sara Leigh Merrey

The dayglo piping combined with the swirling stripes is giving me vertigo. I like the look though, if I hang on to my chair.
