Jennifer Hudson in Versace at the 2013 Do Something Awards

Posted on August 01, 2013

Jennifer, you clearly have a hard time with this concept, but please believe us when we say …

Jennifer Hudson attends the 2013 Do Something Awards in head-to-toe Versace.

There is such a thing as too much Versace.

We guarantee every bitchy queen in attendance hissed behind her back, “I bought it at VERSAYCE.”

Next time, leave the shoes and at least one piece of jewelry in the Versace box and hand it back to your stylist, dear. Aside from the over-accessorizing, you look great. The top and shorts are really cute. But Versace’s like the fatty food of fashion. Best in small doses. In fact, you might want to apply your Weight Watchers training to the wearing of Versace. Assign points to each item, if that helps. This outfit has like 5000 points to it.

The shoes are the worst offenders here. My God, those are atrocious.

      • Pterodactyl111

I think those those shoes would be really great if the rest of the outfit wasn’t so busy.

      • Little_Olive

They belong in a Real Housewife of Daytona Beach.

    • Jen

lose the shoes and the super hero belt and I could sign off on this…. and maybe the cocktail ring….

    • Shawn EH

Too gorge on Versace? Not gorzh!

    • Glam Dixie

Way too much bling, busy shoes and wow, pancake makeup.

      • Rhonda Shore

and the bling looks like it came from the cheap gold store. Needs a new stylist.

        • Glam Dixie

Agreed, it doesn’t even look like expensive jewelry, just cheap and tacky.

          • largishbearishAtlish

I just hate when their hire heterosexual stylist! (said with love, said with love :))

      • Carleenml

the thick, pancake make up keeps showing up everywhere in pics. I immediately think funeral home make up. hate it!!

    • BerlinerNYC

It is waay TOO MUCH, but that’s part of the point of Versayce. I kind of love how cute and over-the-top the LOOK is.

    • ashtangajunkie

Replace the shoes with a simple black pump, the belt with almost any other belt, and lose a piece of the bling, and I would love this. As it is, she’s kind of hard to look at. My eyes get confused if I try to look for too long.

    • mjude

hate the shoes. they are so damn tacky

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

      Edit, sweetie. Edit.

    • MilaXX

She consistently wears the ugliest and least flattering shoes possible. Makeup could be blended a little better, otherwise, good look, just over accessorized.

    • marlie

I really hate this look. JHud tries SO. HARD., and it comes off as too much 90% of the time.

      • SewingSiren

Trying too hard is more commendable than not trying at all, case in point David Mamet’s daughter.

      • AmeliaEve

I think it’s the legacy of having been a fat girl. The excitement of being able to wear high fashion makes it easy to go overboard.

    • Cathy S

The outfit’s cute, but my god those shoes. Terrible.

    • Just Me

“There is such a thing as too much Versace.”

Can we get THAT on a t-shirt, please?

She looks like the walking version of Kimora Lee Simmons’ old house. Too much Versace!!! And tacky as hell.

      • Tatiana Luján

Someone with a business vision would come to TLo as a phrase generator for t-shirts, Ipad cases, etc.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

I love it. (No such thing as too much jewelry in my little world.) I would get rid of the belt, however.

    • decormaven

I’m cracking up looking at the stern handler down the way from the step n repeat. Couldn’t she have told Jennifer to remove at least one Versace item? She still would get credit for “representing” the brand.

    • Qitkat

      JLo is weeping.

    • Imasewsure

‘ I bought it at VERSAYCE.” cracked me up

    • Danielle

      SHOWGIRLS REFERENCE *SQUEEEEE*

    • conniemd

Shoes, ring, belt begone. The necklace and the bracelet appear to be a matched set. They probably should go as too big an chunky. The clothes are gawdy enough (and I like them) that the styling should be understated to keep the look from being “kept girlfriend of very rich movie/rap/rock star”

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

no on the matchy jewelry. it’s soooo 1960.

    • CeeRich

      The shoes are horrible. UGH.

    • largishbearishAtlish

was there an award for best wig of the evening? (obviously she did not win, but was just curious)

    • Erica Woods Tucker

The shoes have put her over her WW points for the year. She’ll have to go back to the meetings.

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

in ww is it a punishment to go back to meetings?

    • bertkeeter

Foundation too heavy! Also…does she ever show her own hair? Enough with these tranny wigs already!

      • Lisa Hager

Um. I think it’s a bit offensive to trans* people to use “tranny” as pejorative word.

        • bertkeeter

          My apologies!

        • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

does that include “this is a tranny mess up in here?” (quote from christian siriano). or is it ok if you’re a member of the lgbt community? as is bert keeter, by the way. shout out to bert!

    • Little_Olive

The Versace-WW analysis is SO RIGHT. There could be a style matrix, where you cross your features against designer/item = x points.

In any case, there is good over-the-top and bad over-the-top. This is the latter. Especially when clothes gay is not talking to makeup gay.

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

Wasn’t it Coco Chanel that said you must take one thing off before you leave the house each morning?

    • http://marshmallowjane.com/ marshmallowjane

Different shoes. No necklace. Hair pulled back. She’d look perfect.

    • Rand Ortega

She looks like she’s headed to the Player’s Ball. That is 1 tacktastic ensemble.

    • a_liking

I actually love the shoes. the whole thing would work great if she lost all the jewelry but kept the shoes imo.

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

i second that! those shoes are hot and look great against her gorgeous dark skin.

    • sagecreek

      Cheap and tacky.

    • MartyBellerMask

You guys are the best. :)

    • Candigirl1968

If she’d taken off the shoes, big necklace and big bracelet, she’d have been adorable.

    • julnyes

I think dialing back the accessories, lighting up on the make-up, and completely different hair would move this look into the cute category.

    • TerryMH

I’m a lifetime member of Weight Watchers and I totally LOVE the idea of assigning point values to my accessories and clothes! Hilarious! An entire new approach to getting dressed! Gotta go . . .lots of work to do in my closet now.

    • lobsterlen

      Too much yes!

Sorry sort of O/T Question: Is it fair to say now Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson are the most successful American Idol contestants? And Jennifer didn’t even win or come in at the top 3. All those boys winners never went anywhere did they?

      • Christopher Auyeung

You forgot Carrie Underwood, who is arguably more successful than Kelly Clarkson depending on how you look at it. But yeah, the boy winners aren’t as successful.

    • guest2visits

So that was it. TLo must be right – it looks like 2 ounces of clothes and 10 pounds of accessory.

    • Ashleigh

I think it’s fun. Kinda wish she was working it 25% more, actually.
