Jane Fonda at “The Butler” Premiere

Posted on August 13, 2013

In a lot of ways, we think Jane looks much prettier when she takes it a little easy on the tight clothes, heels, and heavy makeup. Don’t get us wrong; we love it when the lady divas it the fuck up and gives the double-finger to the idea of what a woman in her seventies should look like. And believe us when we say we really don’t like what she’s wearing here, but she just looks so relaxed and pretty:

Jane Fonda attends “The Butler” Los Angeles Premiere.

Gorgeous, really. At least from the neck up. We can’t really love those pants or shoes, even though we fully support her wearing comfy pants and shoes. The pants are a bit too sheer and flimsy-looking and she shoes look like slippers. Besides, the whole look is too monochromatic. If you’re going to wear comfy flats, you should try and make them stand out and look dressy instead of matching them to your pants. That just screams “bedtime.” Or maybe it softly whispers it, since the idea of screaming “BEDTIME!” is a little disconcerting.

Still; great hair and makeup, lady.

  • Diego!

OMG She looks gorgeous! She reminds me of someone who has the same hair, style and even make up like her… my mom!!! Both of them should have been twins. I love this look and the pants on a red carpet! 🙂

    • Aurumgirl

Me, too, Diego. Even her hands remind me of my mother’s! Same kind of elegance and ease, which really is what sells the whole look on Jane.

  • gabbilevy

Love this face, Jane. It’s a winner. You can go back to your diva’d-the-fuck-up gowns now, but keep this face.

    • sojourneryouth

Yes. It’s settled nicely after looking a bit mask-y for a bit. I love the way her hair frames her face, too. She always looks better with looser, more natural waves or curls. I have no idea if it’s a wig or not, but she looks smashing.

    • lexilexi

I love this face too, and want the name of her P. S.

  • StellaZafella

Sorry, but for me beige is the burka of those of us over 60’s. It’s not just safe…it seems to be trying to make us disappear. And I never want to see this gorgeous woman disappear.

    • 3boysful

I think it’s really flattering here because her hair goes with her skin tone, and the taupe jacket it the darkest shade of beige, therefore breaks the rest of it up. I likey.

      • largishbearishAtlish

The colors are pleasant, but its the fit that killing me- everything looks like silk that is trying to slide off a hanger… maybe just a bit of altering? not ‘snug’ but better fitting? At her amazing age, I can see the soft, flowing, but not billowing so much. (and the hair/makeup- Perfection!)

  • Anathema_Device

She is swimming in oatmeal. That can’t ever be a good thing, literally or figuratively. But yes, she looks beautiful from the neck up.

    • Amen, Anathema. Plus, for me at least, the fit on that jacket just looks off. It seems too large for her.

      • Jacqueline Wessel

Yes, the shoulder seams are too wide, especially noticeable in the second photo.

    • zenobar

“Swimming in oatmeal” could account for her gorgeous complexion, though 🙂

  • Rand Ortega

A mite too pajama-y, but she still looks glorious. 1 of the few reasons “The Newsroom” is worth watching. Her character’s Rupert Murdoch/Bonnie Hammer hybrid is mesmerizing. Really looking forward to “The Butler” & her portrayal of Nancy Reagan.

  • An ode to taupe.

  • TLJezebel

Please, plastic surgeons. Develop a procedure to make our
old hands look young again!!! She looks absolutely fantastic, though.

    • TAGinMO

I actually find it sort of comforting that the Fountain of Surgically Enhanced Youth can only do so much–even for someone like Jane with more money than Canada.

      The hands never lie.

      • A good reason for ladylike gloves to come back in fashion.

        • Linda LaPaz

They do have a hand lift. They inject fillers. It costs about $1500, and lasts for a year.

        • MaryMitch

The last time I saw Dolly Parton on TV (she was doing a promotion for her movie with Queen Latifah), she had some kind of gauzy or illusion fabric attached from her sleeve to one of her rings. It was pretty subtle. I guess that’s one kind of plastic surgery she hasn’t had. (I love me some Dolly, but I wish she would stop with the surgeries.)

      • TLJezebel

I never thought of it that way.

  • Clydette Wantland

Her makeup and hair are PERFECT. Love her.

  • I LOVE her hair like this. She looks gorgeous. I agree about the pants, though. Actually the whole thing looks much too big on her. But it’s Jane, we love her, and that’s it.

  • flamingoNW

Different pants and this might have worked.

  • Bakerlooline

If everything were fitted a bit, the monochrome might work. It’s a little too “off the rack” for someone of her stature, no?

  • marlie

From the neck up, she looks lovely. Her hair and makeup are perfect. But I really, really hate the outfit from top to bottom.

  • hughman

The Princess Jasmine trousers are nice but the coat looks like something they lent her at a restaurant to meet the dress code.

  • mhleta

That’s a real 80s fit on that jacket. Is that fit back? I’d like to see her size down one, maybe two sizes on the jacket and find some different pants. I’d prefer matching suit pants to what she’s wearing here. I could forgive the shoes. I get what it’s like to have cranky feet as I get older (Thank you 1980s aerobics training.) I love her natural elegance, though. She’s unrivaled for that.

    • largishbearishAtlish

maybe the clothes pins in back of the jacket that were keeping it taunt fell off?

  • MilaXX

I like the color and the hair/makeup are great. The outfit id just fugly.

  • Tuneful54

I’m getting Farrah Fawcett and Rue McClanahan from the neck up, to a degree that’s unsettling. Outfit is just way too big and a fugly color. although the jacket alone sized down could have potential. Still, glad she looks relaxed, healthy, and not over-plasticized.

  • Can someone please give me the name of her plastic surgeon?

  • formerlyAnon

I love the colors and the fabrics and the idea of this. But the jacket needs to be tailored more closely to her, it looks too big, and the pants are also too oversized (though at least in the case of the pants it looks entirely intentional.)

  • mjude

its Jane, love her no matter…

  • susan6

Props to her plastic surgeon; she looks great. (However….I now understand why Madonna has taken to wearing gloves. No surgery to fix the hands.)

  • Judy_S

I think this would be fine if the clothes fit better. She seems swallowed by them.

  • Eric Stott

I like the jacket and how it sits on her. Better pants would have made this a thumbs up.

  • Winter_White

That just screams “bedtime.” Or maybe it softly whispers it, since the idea of screaming “BEDTIME!” is a little disconcerting.

    Love you guys.

  • kirkyo

Good from the waist up, I’ll say. It’s like she forgot to fully change.

  • MK03

Please don’t kill me for saying this, but…this is wandering into Camilla Parker-Bowles territory.

    *hides in terror*

    • Monabel

  • Roza

    Jane Fonda is a badazz.

  • Joanne Abrams

Her real age shows through in the close up of her hands. So weird when face lifts and a lot of makeup keep the young glowing look and then the hands that are withered and have age spots give it all away. Time for gloves?

  • conniemd

I’m assuming the toned down look is in deference to her role in the movie of Nancy Reagan.

  • lilyvonschtupp

It’s Jane Fucking Fonda. And she LOOKS like Jane Fucking Fonda.

Alot of these old and young broads ought to take a note from her on how to age gracefully. (Sharon Stone, are you listening????)

    • housefulofboys

I just made a comment about how happy I am to see that she still looks like herself, couldn’t agree more! But Sharon Stone? I think she is one of the better women “of a certain age” (and she must be 20 years younger than Jane) in terms of still looking like herself. Yes, she sometimes crosses the boundary into trashy/too young clothing, but she is still of an age to be reasonably in the market for sexy roles, so I can’t fault her for continuing to advertise her assets. But, I really like Sharon’s face, I’m sure she has work done, but she still looks like herself, and no duck lips (my personal tipping point when viewing any of these chicas). I could think of a lot of women much younger who have completely ruined their looks, Daryl Hannah, Meg Ryan, Lara Flynn Boyle to name a few.

  • nannypoo

I like the idea of this outfit but not the execution.

  • EEKstl

I’ll even give her from the hips up, because I like the jacket and the jewelry. But the pants are way too flimsy. Honestly, a basic pants suit with the pants in this fabric plus a sharper shoe in a contrasting color would have put her in WERQ territory, but as is…from the hips up.

  • Karen Clark

Totally agree on your assessment. She is just so lovely.

  • msdamselfly

She looks lovely–havent seen her look this good in years

  • MzzPants

‘Divas it the fuck up’. Is that the female version of ‘Willising’?

  • quiltrx

She looks so pretty! Love the hair and makeup, and I like the jacket, too. I love that she always looks like she’s having a good time. 🙂

  • guest2visits

I actually like the color for her and the jacket looks pretty too; but agree the pants are too wispy and trying too hard to match, if they were darker or another shade altogether it would help. And the slipper like flats just no.
She looks great – nice smile!

  • kathrineb

Such a gorgeous woman…that face is stunning. I’m not keen on the outfit, especially the pants

  • housefulofboys

I love you guys. Reading your comments every day always makes me smile/makes me giggle/makes me nod my head “yeah”/occasionally makes me laugh out loud. Just sayin’.

As to Jane, I love that she looks comfortable and chic and stylish. I love the pants myself. As a 99% flats-wearing person myself, I would have put some crazy-ass colorful shoes on to balance out the monotone outfit (and I’m in my fifties, so there!).

I also am amazed that Jane continues to look like herself in spite of the plastic surgery she has had. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that she has basically left her lips alone (I hate duck lips with a red-hot fury) and doesn’t seem to have overindulged in fillers. Of course, it also has a lot to do with having amazing bone structure to begin with…

  • AnnaleighBelle

I’m going to start screaming “BEDTIME!” at people.

  • Imasewsure

Great top half and a beautiful (non)color on her!

  • Warrior89

Looking at her hands vs. her face is quite…disconcerting.

  • Ann Coleman

So why are we all whining about Nicole Kidman’s plastic-surgery-enhanced face but praising Jane for hers? I don’t get it. I think she looks beautiful…and she is quite open about using medical assistance to get there. Why is it OK for her but not for others? She definitely does NOT look “natural” for a 75-year-old woman, but she does look beautiful! Good for you, Jane…and Nicole!

    • Because we think one of them looks good and the other one doesn’t. We thought that was obvious.
