Ginnifer Goodwin in L.A.

Posted on August 12, 2013

This is all just a little too precious for its own good:

Ginnifer Goodwin attends a party in Los Angeles wearing Charlotte Olympia slippers.

Charlotte Olympia Bisoux Suede Lip-Detail Smoking Slipper

But it’s probably one of the best things we’ve seen her in because it suits her so much better than all the capital-F Fashion she tends to favor for public appearances. We don’t love the shape of the skirt and think the shoes are definitely a couple of bridges too far, but she has a relaxed, yet cohesive look about her that works wonderfully. She can do twee. She probably should do twee. But we might’ve recommended roughing this up just a skosh to give it some edge. Still. we can’t help but give her an “Attagirl.”

Top half win! But, Zoe Deschanel’s skirt and shoes. And, I am going to get in trouble again for thinking this girl is wearing hose. Good lord.

  • marlie

She looks adorable! I like everything about this except the shoes. They’re too cutesy for this already super-cutesy outfit. And, I’d wear the hell out of this outfit.

    • demidaemon

I agree with everything you said here, except your evaluation of the shoes. To me, they are just hideous and stupid.

  • majorbedhead

What kind of party is this that people are bringing luggage to it?

She always underwhelms me. Today is no different.

    • Golfkat

Could it be a fashion trunk show?

  • gabbilevy

All great pieces, a bit too much together. Swap them out with a few other pieces and wear them in different outfits, and she’ll have several good outfits.

  • no wonder she was cast as Snow White, that’s some seriously white skin

  • Golfkat

It could be okay without the shoes I think. Maybe?

    • Catiline

That’s it for me too. I was scrolling down thinking it was not too bad, pretty cute – the shoes just push it over into cutesy.

      • Tatiana Luján

The shoes could work with a pair of jeans, but not with this look.

  • The skirt and the tucked-in blousy shirt just make her look dumpy. I don’t think it’s a good look for her. The shoes are the best part IMHO.

  • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

I like everything here. Except for the lipstick, that I don’t.

  • MilaXX

I like everything except the skirt. The shape is all wrong for her. Surprisingly the red lip works really well on her.

    • kimmeister

      Is that your current kitty?

      • MilaXX

Yes that’s Stormie all grown up. She’ll be a year old this Wednesday.

        • kimmeister

She’s adorable! My male kitty is not even a year and a half old yet, and he’s already 14 lbs!

          • MilaXX

14lbs! What bred is he? Stormie will get an annual check up this year, but I think she’s around 6 or 7lbs at most.

          • kimmeister

Chai is half Siamese, half domestic shorthair. He has broad chocolate and taupe strips on his back and has a white belly and white socks. What people notice most about him are his blue eyes, black ear tufts, and “Egyptian eyeliner.”

  • dncnginthedark

I dislike everything about this. Except her hair and face.

  • moxie_lady

I love this look. Much as she bugs, she looks great, and I have serious WANT for those shoes (and those sunnies).

You know, I was trying to think of an accessory that would liven up that white blouse. Clearly, it is a name tag.

School uniform, or nun from one of those “edgy” orders who’ve eschewed traditional habits.

    • Adriana_Paula

School uniform is exactly what I thought, having worn one through high school in the Caribbean! If she were wearing a fitted tank I would probably like this.

  • mlle

I’d like to know what sunscreen she uses!

  • MzzPants

How do pale girls stay pale when they live in Southern California??

    • Monabel

Always walk on the shady side.

      • teensmom99

Actually, no one every walks and it’s not super hot in SoCal. So you might be less likely to tan if you don’t seek it out.

        • Monabel

Worked for me when I lived there.

  • appliquer

So nice to see her actually smiling for a change!

the skirt is too full and the shoes are too cartoonish for a look that aims to be audrey-coco-chic, but her face looks gorgeous! That is *so* her shade of lipstick and those are *so* her shades! This is the best I’ve seen her look.

    • DuBey2

I’m jut gonna say it: I think one has to have very thin legs to work that gamine Audrey-coco-chic look (w/the flats and full skirt, etc) and she does not. That skirt however, might not work on ANYone w/o making them look puffy. It seems especially unflattering to the knees.

      • Tatiana Luján

I don’t think you HAVE to have thin legs to work the gamine look.
However, I do agree with you on that skirt, I don’t think it would flatter anyone.

  • JauntyJohn

The prettiest teacher at P.S. 24.

  • Just Me

She looks like a prep school parent on the way to a school event. Ask me how I know…

  • nannypoo

It looks like the uniform of a somewhat festive parochial school. In addition to its overall ugliness, the shape adds 20 pounds. And the shoes are giving her cankles. Actually, I don’t much like her hair, her lipstick or her sunglasses either.

  • IMNAngryLiberal

Is she going to the same party that Christina was going to with her bad sad dress on? Because based on these two outfits, it doesn’t look like much fun. Also — that is one white woman. I’m so pale that strangers often ask me if I’m well, and Ginnifer is making me look postively ethnic!

    • VictoriaDiNardo

If that’s the case I’m wondering if it might have something to do with women’s heart health – isn’t the symbol a red dress? Why else all this red in August?

  • newleaf1

I’d wear the heck out of those shoes with jeans, though…so cute.

  • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

Oh, I love those shoes. I even like them with this outfit, since it’s so simple.

  • VioletFem

I love those shoes! I would probably never wear them, but they look cute on her. Also, that skirt is such a magnificent red, too bad the shape is so wonky.

  • Adriana

Would’ve loved it with skinny jeans but that skirt is just too big and too twee.

  • bellafigura1

  • Kerri

I think swap out the shirt for a tank or fitted tee with some long layered necklaces and that would help. It’s a lot of blousey volume and it’s kind of throwing her shape out of proportion. Or keep the top and a pencil skirt? Something like that. But, I do like the idea of this; it just falls a little short in the execution.

  • Inspector_Gidget

She looks like she wants to be Audrey Horne, but doesn’t have the edge to offset the cute.

  • Scott Cooper

It’s the same skirt Reese Witherspoon has sported in two pictures. The difference being this skirt fits!

  • ashtangajunkie

I don’t think that skirt and top belong together. Too much volume paired together. The shoes would look fantastic with black skinny pants or jeans.

  • a_liking

I love, even with the shoes. It’s a look. I don’t really think it needs to be “roughed” or “edged” up at all; that would just make her look…. messy.

  • kimmeister

I never knew that one needed to wear slippers when smoking, silly me.

  • fiddlecub

We only need one Michelle Williams type at a time. And Michelle does this kind of look better, in my humble opinion.

  • halleygee

I do not like this outfit in the least, she looks like she’s on her way to a PTA meeting.

  • E. D.

Those shoes should not be worn with that skirt.

  • sockandaphone

saw her Saturday at a concert. She’s so smug it’s ridiculous. The pictures don’t do justice

  • I hate what that length and those shoes are doing to her legs.

  • Dan_In_NYC

Fit and proportion are killing her here. I like the IDEA of everything, but I don’t really like any of the individual things – except maybe that bag. I like that bag.

  • Levedi

Ugh. That shirt brings back bad memories of middle school choir outfits. Slap on a fake bow tie in the school colors and you’ve got it. The shoes are cute-ish. Everything else has to go.

  • Ekw

Crikey! I wore this in the 70s. Dirndl skirt, quilted bag, two-tone loafers, white Peter Pan blouse… All that’s missing is a circle pin.

  • Anniebet

Meh. Smugly smirking again, or still? I guess she’s one of my three or four irrational dislikes. Every time I see those round ears I wanna slap a wig on her boy cropped head.

  • ChelseaNH

Either the sun is particularly bright in LA today or someone has added bleach to the bath water. What is up with all the pale people today?

  • amanda lynn

I think that while the shoes are cutesy, they’re really great for the outfit.

  • ewes_urn_aim

That dorky pose with her foot, to make sure the photographers catch her shoe detail – WE SEE IT!!! ugh makes me throw up

  • sagecreek

Oh no. I love her so much , but she just always gets it wrong.

  • Louise Bryan

Hair black as ebony, lips red as the rose, skin white as snow.

  • are you kidding? she looks like a catholic school girl. and not in a good way. but i do like the shoes. they’re kissable.

  • Fordzo

I thought her friend was carrying a black trash bag.

  • myristica_fragrans

no, she didn’t call the paps. of course not! she’s just so fascinating that they magically show up wherever she is.

  • alyce1213

I love a good quality, crisp white shirt and this one’s really nice. Dirndl skirts, on the other hand, are ill-advised for almost everyone. The shoes — better with a pair of slacks or jeans, even shorts.

  • Paula Pertile

Ex-nun who is still figuring out how to dress for her new non-nun gig as a 4th grade teacher.
    Or maybe its just me.

  • formerlyAnon

Don’t love the shape of the skirt, either, but it’s the lips on the shoes at which I draw a line. Or would, if she’d asked me. Not so bad, though.

  • kim bunchalastnames

    it BURNS!

  • titaness25

I would fight against being typecast as Snow White too, I guess. It’s just her hard luck that it looks really good on her. But I really don’t love the skirt shape, tis true.

  • Imasewsure

Love the hair and the glasses. Like the effort but it doesn’t work for me either

  • ankali

She looks mostly cute, but man, does Charlotte Olympia’s whimsy make my butt itch.

  • frumpybiscuits

It works. But it’s. JUST.SO.MUCH y’know? I feel like she needs to have more beers.

  • Caitlin

Does anyone know where that red dress her “friend”/follower on the back left could be found? Needing one one just like it *so* badly for a wedding!

  • PeggyOC

The shoes are too much with this outfit, but they can come seek asylum in my closet.

  • shorty j

man, from the waist up, I want this so badly that it hurts. Those sunglasses are killer, and definitely taking advantage of the “short hair = wear over-the-top things on your face” philosophy of which I am a huge fan.

  • teensmom99

Can’t get behind that blouse with that skirt. Not flattering. And I have a weakness for silly shoes so I would love these with a black capri. Maybe too obvious but I know it’s a weakness.

  • Kate

I just wish she would grow her hair out, just a little.

  • largishbearishAtlish

I was distracted by the legs… I am still not sure if she is wearing white hose…. but I think she just has glaringly white/pale legs.

  • librarygrrl64

Aw, I dig the shades and the shoes, but I’d wear the latter with standard straight-leg black pants to tone down the twee. I didn’t notice at first that they were, in fact, twee, I just liked the color combo and the loafer height.

  • kathrineb

Super cute skirt, shirt, lips and glasses but the shoes have to go! Agreed on the look needing a little edge. Other than the shoes it’s a winner.

  • Crystal

I like this! It’s like polka-dot-less Minnie Mouse.
